zionmade:Do we have Seaports? Of course we do, however, Seaports is not what makes a country great. Swizerland and Austria have no seaports but are individually richer than Nigeria. Even Botswana in Africa is doing well with no Seaport. Seaport is a good thing but it is not everything like some people think. What is important is human and capital development. As for ardent propagators of Biafra being touts, the propagators of Nigeria were colonial criminals who came to West Africa to steal the sovereignty and wealth of the people to enrich themselves. A tout on the other hand, is not a criminal. |
Nigerian Army messing up in Igboland |
These two men (Gowon and Amin) have two things in common. Each spent about 9 years in power. During their tenures, they managed to kill more of their fellow citizens than anyone else. The combination of Gowon and Amin killed more people than anyone else in the history of Africa |
Igbo presidency is no longer being clamoured for by Igbos, we dont need it. There other things that are far more important to the Igbo nation. |
oyinkinola:By holding a referendum and asking the people to vote if the want to be together or go their separate ways. Have all Nigerians agreed to live in Nigeria? |
Britain supplied Nigeria with Cash, Military adivicers, limitless guns. Russia supported Nigeria with fighter jets, Arms and ammunition. Biafra on the other had only token support from France and actually had to pay Portugal for all arms it supplied. To make matters worse for Biafra, British ships blockaded Biafra making it impossible for Ojukwu to sell Oil and Import weapons. In terms of what military support was recieved from the international community, Nigeria got a bag of Rice while Biafra got a cup of rice. Had the international community stayed neutral, Ojukwu who had the Oil money, would have imported large amounts of Ammunition and chased Gowon into Benin Republic. Britain and Russia won the war for Nigeria. |
oyinkinola:The nation onky gets sovereignty when the people have agreed to be together. That doesnt apply in the case of Nigeria |
And they will say the Biafran protests started when GEJ lost the elections................. |
Osyabj:Arent you forgetting something? APGA has won the last 3 Government elections when most of these people were in PDP. If they couldnt do anything while they were in PDP, is it now they are in an unpopular party called APC that they will be effective? Anambra is my state and I can say that APC is not in contention. The fight will be between PDP and APGA. |
laudate:This what people say when they have no superior argument. History is there and the fact remains that Gowon caused the war by going against the Aburi agreement he signed in Ghana |
oyinkinola:So if Nigeria has to be fighting wars with the ethnic nations it is comprised of in other to stay one, then what is the point of Nigeria? Or did anyone tell you that countries stay together by war? |
obaaderemi:No you are wrong. The coup did not lead to the war. It was not the 'proximate' cause of the war. This is one error a lot of Nigerians believe which must be debunked. Nigeria was already on the path of war even before 1966, violence was prevalent especially in Western Region. What causes a war is the same thing that causes a fight, the inability of two or more people to reason like adults and reach a compromise that does not include fighting. That was what Gowon and Ojukwu met in Aburi to avoid. The met, discussed for two days and reached an agreement which both signed. The went back home and there was peace. War became inevitable when Gowon could not live up to his side of the agreement. The war was not caused by the first coup, it was caused by Yakubu Gowon. |
obaaderemi:A lot of rot had already set in long before the January 66 coup. |
I wonder who the Biafran Soldier was beating up? Probably a captured Nigerian Soldier. |
24SEVEN:Of course, the man is halfwitted morron. This is the same man who said "Nigeria is individible" but wants to be heard because Nigeria is surviving on Rivers state Oil money. If he has no qualms with Nigeria partaking on Rivers Oil wealth, he should have qualms not being heard. |
albaicollinz:They should be allowed their right to a fair hearing in court |
Abia state missed a good thing with the APGA winning train when the missed Alex Otti. |
noalistic:So you see, it is those who are prepared to match words with action that should be talking Freedom. Not those who are all words but no action |
The zoo must fall! |
baysol:At least we did rise up to our independence, something you guys are incapable of. You guys cant even call out the Northerners for slaughtering Fajuyi let alone seeking Oduduwa Republic. |
If Yorubas couldnt declare Oduduwa in 1967, they will never have the backbone to do it again. There are many things that happened in that era that should have encouraged Yorubas to seek self determination, but they didnt 1) The Northerners went to Ibadan and killed the Governor of the Western Region, Lt Colonel Fajuyi. This singular act of sacrilege on Yoruba soil, to such a highly placed Yoruba son should have been the final straw for Yorubas. They should have risen up against the excesses of the North along with the Igbos, but they did nothing. When the Northerners realised that Yorubas had no fight in them, it emboldend them to do much worse. 2) Brigadier Ogundipe officially became 'acting head' of state with the disappearance of Ironsi. He should have been confirmed head of state with confirmation of Ironsi's death as the highest ranking military officer after Ironsi (Ogundipe was the only Brigadier-General in the Nigerian Army at the time). The Northerners drove Ogundipe out of Lagos, Yoruba land, and banished him to London where he was summarily retired. Again, the Yoruba nation should have risen up in defence of their land and son. They did nothing. Today, if Igbos call Lagos 'no mans land', the average Yoruba man will be offended. But when Brigadier Ogundipe was been harrased out of Lagos by the North, no Yoruba man said a word. 3) Colonel Adebayor replaced Fajuyi as Governor of the western Region. Adebayor never slept in Government House because he was afraid that the Northerners would come and slaughter him like they did Fajuyi. Yorubas were held hostage in their own land. 20 years later, the Northerners kidnapped and slaughtered MKO Abiola. As usual, nothing happend. I laugh when Yorubas talk about Oduduwa Republic, I dont think they realise that it takes more than 'mere talking' to achieve independence. |
temitemi1:Then what makes you better than them? |
Omudia:Of course it does. How do you think Lugard created Nigeria? He asked the ethnic groups he met in West Africa politely if they would like to come together? Lugard used guns and bullets to shoot everyone into submission, a mission he completed in 1914. This is the method that is still been used to hold Nigeria together since then |
No gain saying that a British opportunist called Frederick Lugard created Nigeria in 1914 for purely selfish reasons. For him, Nigeria was no better than ATM machine. In 1919, 4 years after he forced different groups together at gun point, Lugard returned to Britain a fabulously wealthy man where he was made a 'Lord' The colonial entity he created with no thought about if the people were compatible would explode 40 years later when Nigeria achieved self rule in 1960. Within 6 years, political strife, coups and counter coups, wholesale massacres would inevitably lead to civil war that claimed over 3 million lives. Nobody ever bothered to ask "why are we killing our selves because Lugard brought us together?" "Did we kill our selves this way when there was no Nigeria?" "Are we happier now we are together than when we were not together?" "Who is really a Nigerian? One that accepts the name or someone who the British imposed the name on?" One thing is clear to anybody with half a sense, no unity that is 'by force' is ever a happy one. |
If it were not for Nnamdi Kanu, a lot of Nigerians would not have known that self determination is an inalienable right. |
Igbos have never betrayed Ojukwu, there is no man alive or dead that Igbos love as much Ojukwu. What non Igbos simply dont understand about Igbos is that Igbos do not respect politicians, they respect freedom fighters. It is Ojukwu the Biafran freedom fighter that Igbos love, not Ojukwu the APGA presidential candidate. It is Zik the independence fighter that Igbos remember, not Zik the ceremonial president and politician. There is no Igbo politician in Igbo land that can call for a million man rally and people will come out without monetary inducement. But Nnamdi Kanu can call for a million people to come out tomorow from jail, with no money involved, and people will troop out. Igbos do not respect politicians, they respect freedom fighters. |
Most Nigerians believe in rotational presidency. If the presidency is being rotated between the 6 geopolitical zones, what zone do you think it should move to after Buhari? Note: This is regardless of if Buhari's tenure ends in 2019 or 2023. |
I don't know what is wrong with some people. When politicians win elections, they will be the first to advice anyone with any grieviance against the election to "go to court". When you now go to court and get a favourable judgement, the same politician that said "go to court" will turn around and start making noise. As it stands now, Uche Ogah is the Governor-elect and it is for Ikpeazu to now go to court to overturn the judgement. There is no room for sentiment here. |
redcliff:Same way there is no correlation between a Bini man and an Ibibio man? |
Buhari must be out of his mind to be looking for Oil in the North East, a place notorious for sectarian violence. But assuming they find Oil and some how manage to dril and extract it, it will still have to piped all the way to the south before it can be exported which is a very expensive business. The only advantage I see of finding Oil in the North is if the crude Oil can be piped to Kaduna refinery for local consumption. But that will probably benefit the North but not the south |
It could be ammunition from the civil war. It's no secret that the Biafran Army buried arms and ammunition in villages surrounding Nnewi, one of which is Peter Obi's home town |

That was the same thought that crossed my mind when I saw that picture, too!
