No, Igbos give a Rat's as$, Political power is the ultimate possession of a being or group after wealth.

If you have all the wealth, but without political power, those who wield political power can easily make you poor overnight.
Without freedom, sovereignty, independence and autonomy, political power doesnt mean anything

You are trying to be clever by half and ending up achieving none.

In this modern age of internet and search engines (when you can do your own independent research); all you need to do is google up any information for verification - its as simple as that; in this case e.g. Ironsi, decree 34 of May 24 1966 etc.

Ironsi replaced the regions with provinces but obviously didn't live long enough to fully implement them - he nonetheless was responsible for dismantling the autonomous regions and ushering in the unitary central government we have inherited today.
Note, if even as at today, 51 years later, we still using the old regional nomenclature in our everyday language - what would you have expected merely a year later (as at 1967)?

BTW, my father and uncles were all living adult witnesses throughout the above period and had fully versed me on their experiences
I have read decree 34 of 1966 which Ironsi introduced. There are things Ironsi did and things he did not do. Coming up with lies about the man is fruitless.

Ironsi did not abolish the Regions. The 4 Regions (The North, East, West and Midwest) were existing even a year after Ironsi's death and all 4 were practicing resource control.

Ironsi did not create any 'province'. If you know the name of any province he created, say it

Decree 34 only centralised Government, it did not dismantle the 4 Regions

It was Gowon that came in and abolished the 4 Regions and created 12 unitary states which later grew to 19 and later to 36 which we have today

Had Gowon left the 4 Regions the way Ironsi did, Nigeria would have been a federation of 4 Regions today, each practicing full resouce control.

This lie that Ironsi abolished the 4 Regions should stop

All those before GEJ left a large poo on the seat before they left. The person who came after GEJ left a bigger poo.

Nobody is going to say that GEJ's tenure was the best in the world, but blaming him alone for the mess Nigeria is in is foolish.

All I know is that I watched a video of Kanu soliciting for arms against Nigeria on YouTube
Let me put it this way. Lets say I go around soliciting and asking for a gun so I can go and rob. Someone videos me as I solicit for weapons and hands it to the police. The police arrest me. If I never actually managed to get a gun and never managed to rob, can I be charged for armed robbery?

The law is about crimes that have been commited, not the one that is yet to be committed.

Sorry bro but Igbo Governors do not go to to Kano or anywhere in the North to appeal for anything. If you know any Igbo Governor who has gone to appeal in the North, say so.

Nobody knows Kwakwanso in Enugu. Its obvious that those who came to welcome him are his fellow Northerners based in Enugu. Enugu has a sizable Northern population in a place called Ama-Hausa. They came to see their brother. No Igbo would hail a Northern leader in Enugu. Igbos havent even hailed their own leaders to hail a non-entity like Kwakwanso who came to visit the Governor

You are obviously in denial, even in the face of the evidence (uploaded newspaper headlines and citing of the instrument i.e. decree 34) which he used to dissolve the regions.
The so called 'Newspaper headline' can be made by anyone with a good computer and the right software. Even I could this. Since none of us can go back 50 years in time to verify the News Headline, there is a much easier way. There are people who were arond 50 years ago. Ask any of them these two questions.

How is it possible that Ironsi abolished or dissolved the regions if the 4 Regions were still existing after he died? Ironsi died in July 1966 but the Military Governors of all 4 Regions met with Gowon in Aburi Ghana in January 1967. How is it that Ironsi abolished the Regions in 1966 but they still existed in 1967, long after he was dead?

Second thing I need to know . If Ironsi dissolved the 4 Regions, what did he replace them with?

Flashing new whixh is too old to be verified is not good enough, answer questions

He abolished the regional system, including resource control, in order to selfishly concentrate and consolidate power centrally to himself and his Igbo kinsmen - never imagining northerners could fight back.

Southerners, particularly from the SS & SE complaining and clamouring for restructuring and resource control should not forget that the bane of the their present woes started from one of their own and not from the north.

Students of history would also tell you that: the selective killings of northern leaders and army officers in the Igbo led 1966 coup, Ironsi's failure to take action against the coup plotters, dissolution and unification of the former regions by decree 34 under a unitary system (the basic structure we have inherited till today) and Igbos public celebration, taunting and mocking of northerners over the brutal cold murder their leaders (the Sardauna, Balewa & co) in Jan 1966 Igbo coup, were together a culmination of the factors that led to the counter coup, the July 1966 northern riots and reprisal killings of Igbos, and ultimately the civil war in which even more Igbos died.

In short; Igbos opened the Pandora's box and are the root course of all our wahala today.
How could Ironsi have abolished or dissolved the Regions when all 4 Regions were existing even after he died?

The only difference is that while all others paid with their lives or long prison sentences, Danjuma got away with his crimes scott-free

Truth is these so called patriots are nothing but Hypocrites who have zero interest in nation building or bringing sanity to the polity. They are paid stooges that sit tight online to fight for their pay masters while pretending to be patriots.

Let's stop abusing this glorious word. You all are not patriots but hypocritical defenders of your pay masters.

Else, tell us, why do you think you are a patriot.
There isnt any patroit in Nigeria. Show me one and I will show you a hypocrite. To be a Nigerian patroit would mean that one would have to be something or someone close to the Nigerian equivalent of Nnamdi Kanu. Someone who is willing to give up their comfort, their freedom and their life for the love of Nigeria.

I have never heard of such a Nigerian let alone seen one

It doesn't? Last I checked, I don't really have something in common with the Yorubas, Igbos or Hausas because we don't speak the same language as these people, let alone, dress/share the same delicacy. Does that make me the same with them then?
So you know that Hausa and Yoruba are different to you because the dont speak the same language as you but you will turn around and call the Ogoja or Efik man who also doesnt speak your language your 'Niger Delta brother'

Just like you claim you have Igbos on the part on the other side of the bridge is the same way I share a geopolitical space with the people of Rivers, Akwa Ibom, Edo, and Rivers. It is not up to you to decide. You honestly should face your five states rather than carve a legislature around a region.
How can you be sharing geopolitical space with another ethnic group without permission? At least the Biafrans are seeking permission via referendum. When did you ask these other ethnic groups to join 'South South'?

Get it, WE DON'T WANT TO BREAK AWAY FROM NIGERIA, AT LEAST NOT NOW! All we ask is for resource control and true federalism. And last I checked, the only attach-by-force here is, you know who. Or how else do you explain the Isokos and Urhobos being a part of a phnatom legislaturehuh
Dont make me laugh. You want to do 'one Nigeria' with the same people who are against resource control and true federalism? But you want resource control and true federalism. People have been talking about resource control for 50 years without getting anywhere. You think it is when Igbo leave Nigeria that the tiny Urohbo nation will manage to convince the North to allow resource control? I laugh

You still miss the point. It's like saying a referendum should be conducted all over Nigeria just because the Igbos want out. It doesn't work that way. Please, the internet and Google is at your disposal. Kindly read up on the Catalan referendum and the region it was conducted. I believe it would change a thing or two.
There are people who want out and and there are those who dont want out. A referendum should be held in what used to be the Eastern and Midwestern Regions. Those who vote to go can go while those of you who want to stay in Nigeria and look for resource control can vote to carry on.

PoliticsRe: Johnson Aguiyi-ironsi's 93rd Posthumous Birthday Is Today by gartamanta:
bakynes:
Rubbish talk, the Igbos dominated the military pre-independence and before the Civil War, the Northerners were the worst hit by the January 1966 Coup plotted by majority of Igbo officers. You cannot really blame them for killing the Man who refused to execute the coup plotters instead put them in a Jail in the very same region they came from.

The issue with Shonekan, GEJ was because they later Post Civil War control the Military and Political Power back then the Igbos controlled the Military.
Ironsi was not killed because he did not execute the coup plotters, he was killed because he was an Igbo man from the south. It can take over a year to courtmatial and bring coup plotters to justice, Ironsi was killed within six months. If Ironsi had been a Hausa/Fulani Northerner, do you think his brothers would have killed him because he did not execute the coup plotters? Of course not. Let me give you another example. Major Ademoyega and Captain Ben Gbulie where amonngst the ring leaders of the coup. Gowon did not execute them but kept them in jail for years after which they were released. Why didnt the Northerners kill Gowon for not executing Ademoyega and Gbulie just like they did to Ironsi? Because Gowon is a Northerner. Ironsi was killed for being an Igbo man, plain and simple.

The Northerners have fought , tried to remove or killed any Southerner who became or tried to become head of state

They killed Ironsi (Southerner)
They chased away Brigadier Ogundipe (Southerner) who should have been head of state after Ironsi

When Murtala Mohammed was killed, Obasunjo should have automatically taken over. The Northerner offered the position to Danjuma who refused. Obasunjo only became military head of state because the North had no other highly ranked officer (thats why Yaradua was given double promotion to Brigadier and made Obasunjos deputy)

Have we forgotten MKO Abiola? He was kidnapped and slaughered like Sallah Ram because the North could not stand the fact that a Southerner won elections.

Shonekon was kicked out after barely 3 months.

Obasunjo and GEJ were fought by the Northerners throughout their civilian regims.

Something similar is starting with Osibanjo. If Buhari is no more today, you will see how the North will bring down pressure on Osibanjo to resign, and if he doesnt, they will hound him for the rest of his tenure.

These are the many examples to show that the Northerners have fought every southerner who ever entered or came close to entering State House. So anyone who thinks that the Northerners would have had no problems with Ironsi if he had executed Nzeogwu and co is a fool.

Yes Im sure that some Northerners were angry at Ironsi for not executing them, but this was not the reason they killed Ironsi. They killed him to get power back to the North

If only he executed the coup plotters from his region as the the military law stipulated ,he would have avoided his death and the Biafran War.
Thats an age old lie that the Lagos/Ibadan expressway media have been peddling for decades.

Nothing ever appeases the North except power. Even if Aguiyi Ironsi had executed the coup plotters, the Northerners would have eventually come for him.

Northerners are never happy when a Southerner is in power. From the day a Southerner gets into powrer, the Northerners start planning his removal.

We saw this with Shonekon, Obasunjo and GEJ.

Aguiyi Ironsi was just a man who was caught up with the prevailing times. He was warned several times that the Northerners were going to strike, he did nothing. He was still chasing about for 'one Nigeria' when they killed him.

Ojukwu did not repeat his mistake and chose to rise up for the freedom of his people which is why we love him.

I still dont understand why the OP put up a picture of TY Danjuma who killed Ironsi
