EducationAbubakar Fatima Zahra Is Kogi University First Female SUG President by Gemid94(op): 6:12pm On Jul 22, 2021
Kogi State University also known as Prince Abubakar Audu University, PAAU, is a state-owned varsity founded in 1999 and has weathered through the storms of serial political transitions, some of which saw attempts to revive the ailing aspects of the school, others were lackadaisical in the revamping approach.

In this interview, Abubakar Fatima Zahra, the first-ever female Students Union President in the history of the varsity, discusses the issue of revamping the ailing aspects of the institution and also shares some insights about her plan for the students…

Excerpts:

Congratulations on your victory at the poll. Tell us a bit about yourself. Who is Zahra?

Thank you so much for this opportunity. I’m a 500 level Agricultural student from the department of Crop Production, and also the Team leader of Enactus Kogi State University. From Ankpa Local Goverment and born on June 15th 1997 into the family of Mr and Mrs Hussain Abubakar Agolo. I’m a straight forward and easy going person.

How did you feel on the day you’re declared winner at the poll? Did you ever think it was possible?

I felt so excited and grateful. At first, I thought it was not possible because I was on the field with 8 Men but in the long run, I started seeing the possibilities and kept pushing the struggle. And on the day I was declared, I wasn’t really expecting but same time wasn’t too scared because I knew I have tried my best.

As the first female president in the history of Kogi State University, what is your plan for the students?

My plan for the students is to be a good representative to the very best of my abilities.

Considering the fact of being a student at the same time delving into politics, how do you plan to merge these two key factors?

Having at the back of my mind that I’m still a student and the number one priority is my education, will help me to be able to balance both.

Based on popular opinion that the past Students Union Governments failed to address the lacuna in students/lecturers relationship. What would you do differently to improve on the synergy between the duo?

Student Union Goverment has failed us over time. But I’ll try my best to lay a legacy behind that everyone will live to remember.

How do you intend to achieve this?

By being accessible to the best of my abilities and also identify certain problems and looking for the possible solutions to them. I intend to meet relevant stakeholders to this effect. It’s a collective responsibility that demand collective effort.

Last words to those students especially ladies who might someday want to take up positions at the SUG level. Your advise advice to them please.

Advice to those who would like to take after me is that they should be courageous, fearless, and committed to whatever they set up their minds at. Nothing is impossible only if you can take a step.

Christianity EtcReal Reason Behind Sack Of 40 Pastors By Oyedepo by Gemid94(op): 6:28pm On Jul 19, 2021
Fresh facts emerged on Monday, why Bishop David Oyedepo sacked about 40 pastors in the employ of Living Faith Church worldwide in Ekiti State.

Reports on Sunday said Bishop Oyedepo, founder/General Overseer of Living Faith Church also known as Winners Chapel sacked an estimated 40 pastors of the church for not meeting up with the targeted money they were supposed to rake in into the purse of the church.

While online is awash with seating remarks with some advising the aggrieved pastors to approach the Labour Courts and others would take their case to God for adjudication.

For instance, popular media personality, Morayo Afolabi-Brown, has urged the sacked pastors to take their grievances to God.

The TV host made this known on her verified Instagram page @morayobrown on Sunday, following the report on the sacking of pastors at the church.

She wrote, “God is the real MD (Managing Director) of any Bible believing church. If you get ‘sacked’, take your grievances to Him, not the media. Only He can compensate you, not the rabble rousers on social media.”

This came shortly after a certain Pastor Peter Godwin, a pastor at the Winners Chapel, claimed that the church sacked him and about 40 other pastors in Ekiti State for failing to grow their respective parishes.

In a letter that has been trending on social media, which is dated June 25, 2021 and signed by the Executive Secretary of the church, Adebisi Aboluwade, the pastors were asked to evacuate their official accommodations and hand over their identity cards to their respective area pastors.

In a trending video, Pastor Godwin, who claimed to be one of the pastors affected in Ekiti State, said he was employed on August 28, 2020.

He said that he was invited with about 40 of his colleagues by the state pastor on July 1, 2021, but was sacked for failing to grow the income of the church.

The pastor said that, on July 1, he received a call that the state pastor wanted to see him, and that he was amazed to see about 40 other pastors when he arrived.

Godwin said, “When I got there, I saw other pastors too, over 40 of them. So, I joined them.

“A few minutes later, we were [each] issued a letter. I opened the content of the letter to see what was there and I saw that it was a sack letter.

“So, I called the management the next day to find out what happened since I wasn’t involved in any dubious activity or evil act. I was told by the management that the church doesn’t operate at a loss.

“They also told me that the total income that is being generated from my station should be able to cater for my welfare and accommodation, so as a result of low income, I’m hereby dismissed.”

But Vanguard investigation revealed that the pastors sacked were pastoring rural churches which depend so much on the headquarters for funding rather than bringing in money into the church’s purse.

A senior pastor close to the helm of affairs in the church who does not want his name mentioned in press because he has not been authorised to speak, said: "The Living Faith Church had the vision in the year 2019 to open 10,000 rural churches nationwide.

"By the close of the year 2020, over 80 per cent of these cottage churches had been built following a prototype designed and constructed by the church professionals. Then came the human factor.

"Ordinarily, pastoring in Winners Chapel had followed a pattern of training and discipleship since its foundation 40 years ago. However, in view of the massive recruitment to take charge of the new 10,000 churches, many who were neither spiritually nor morally prepared found their way into positions of authority as Pastors-in-charge," our close source said.

CelebritiesObi Cubana And 'Ghost Of The Year' Rhetorics by Gemid94(op): 2:43pm On Jul 19, 2021
This opinion was first published by Vanguard

Death they say is inevitable and not the greatest loss as some rightly believe but a time for deep reflection on an existence that comes after the life ends.

Against this backdrop, this timely and thought-provoking piece is carefully scripted by the writer to put into more perspective some of the rhetorics Nigerians attribute to the concept 'death'.

Recently, Nigerians took to the social media to air their views about the 'talk of the town' funeral of the mother of a renowned entrepreneur Obinna Iyiegbu popularly known as Obi Cubana. For many, it's indeed a great 'carnival' following the excessive euphoria that the burial brought coupled with the lavishness by the organisers whose doings were really on the high side.

In the words of Nollywood actor Alex Ekubo, Obi Cubana's mother "had won the Ghost of the Year in Heaven" following the lavishness (as rightly opined by some Nigerians) prompted by the burial. The actor's submission is quite simple, Lady Uche Odozioku Akaeze Iyiegbu's burial truly reflects how flamboyant some can be especially celebrating the funerals of their loved ones. Some even go as far as borrowing from friends or cooperatives in guise of giving their loved ones a befitting burial while others are always ready to spend all their life savings just to show their profound gratitude in memories of the impact the deceased had on them during his lifetime. Celebrating the good life spent by your loved ones is quite a welcome idea but should we necessarily based it on excessive or wasteful spending, especially in a time where most people find it difficult to feed?

Yes! It's always a great idea to put up a big celebration in commemoration of a life well spent. Imagine a mother who out of all odds sacrificed her love for the good of her children. Doesn't she deserves a befitting burial?

It's not a surprise if personality like Obi Cubana with such an humble beginning could put up such a big celebration just to show his deepest gratitude to his beloved mother who according to popular opinion sacrificed everything just for her children to be successful in life. Indeed, she's truly a mother worthy of this big celebration.

On the contrary, some may see no sense in a burial where a spendthrift in an attempt to outshine others showcases his lack of regard for the Nigerian currency with little or no concern on the implication of this extravagant and reckless wastefulness on the average Nigerian youth who more often than not may be triggered to replicate same in the name of belonging to the 'big boy geng'.

For instance, studies have shown that most cases of cyber crime is on the high side in recent times as a result of the 'get-rich-quick' tendency by some young Nigerians who are easily influenced by the flamboyant lifestyles of the so-called celebs who mostly make their 'cool cash' legitimately and not necessarily by fraud or ritualistic means.

Following the flamboyant lifestyles of these celebs who more often than not are role models to an average Nigerian youth, the latter in turn, cut corners just to exhibit these lifestyles portrayed by their idols and the trend goes on.

By implication, we now have more crimes in the society as a result of the uncontrollable desires by these young people with little or no knowledge on what it takes to be financial independent. Since they can't get the money they needed to replicate the lifestyles of their idols legitimately then they look for other alternatives to achieve their dream houses, cars, properties etc. forgetting that there's always a time for planting before harvest.

Going forward, Obi Cubana's mother's burial left us with an insight to how some Nigerians can be so offensive about how these celebs spend lavishly without thinking on how best they could utilize this moment to leave indelible footprints on the poor.

Take a look at the amount of money generated via this burial then imagine if these monies could be channelled to establishing a foundation where the community members are empowered financially and in turn, there would be drastic reduction in the rate of unemployment in the country.

Statistically, an average Nigerian civil servant earns 30,000 naira as new minimum wage while the estimated money generated during Obi Cubana's mother's burial supposedly stands at 300,000 000 naira (in a single day). You should know the number of years it will take a civil servant to gather such huge sum if he decides to save his monthly salaries. It's really an unbalanced world, isn't it?

Everyone has right to how they spend their money with Obi Cubana's case not an exemption, and should not be crucified for throwing such a big funeral in honour of his beloved mother. Afterwards he worked for his money and decides how best to spend it. However, would Nigerians richer than Obi Cubana had done something differently if they were in the same shoe with him? A rhetoric that takes only the wise to dissect.

In all of these, we should consider what is best and just for the sanity of the society. The Obi Cubana's mother's burial has a lot of lessons for us to learn. Life is not always a bed of roses and there will always come a twist of time where the poor today becomes richer tomorrow and vise-versa. How well we utilise this moment determines how best life becomes meaningful for us. You can either decide to go the Obi Cubana's way if you choose to do and you can decide to go the contrary depending on what works for you. In summary, let's be more interested in what will be useful to the development and growth of the entire society and not the temporal euphoria that only benefit the few.

PoliticsStop Being ‘Mouthpiece’ For Terrorists — IPOB Fires Back At Gumi by Gemid94(op): 2:33pm On Jun 24, 2021
The proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, has debunked claims by renowned Islamic scholar, Admad Gumi that its operations in Nigeria are in connivance with some security agents in the country to kill Northerners.

Recall Gumi, in an interview on Arise TV Wednesday, June 23, described the banditry going on in Nigeria as a tribal war between herders and other tribes in the country, attributing this to the killings in the Southwest and Southeast respectively.

“These bandits are operating with a lot of people in the security system. This is business, otherwise, how can these big weapons they use cross the borders into the country if money is not exchanging hands,” Gumi told Arise TV presenter.

Reacting, the IPOB in a statement signed by his media and publicity secretary Thursday, Emma Powerful faulted claims by Gumi stating the Eastern Security Network is not a terrorist organisation.

PoliticsBetween Zulum’s Capital Projects And GYB’s Celeb Gimmicks by Gemid94(op): 1:50pm On Jun 21, 2021
Every citizen is entitled to enjoy the dividends of democracy and it is important to note that, a responsible government will always strive to jettison antics aimed at depriving the masses of these privileges.

Good governance demands we provide good amenities for the governed and not showcasing hypocrisy, deception and falsehood while fooling ourselves that we are towing the right path.

As a keen observant of the present administrations of Prof Babagana Zulum of Borno and Alh. Yahaya Bello of Kogi, I stand to be corrected that there is glaring vacuum between the duo in terms of their approach to what makes good governance visible in the minds of the people.

For Governor Zulum, good governance is far beyond playing political gimmicks to the detriment of the masses who elected him into office. This is the man who the President, Muhammadu Buhari recently graced his state to commission seven out of 556 capital projects delivered by him.

“I am highly impressed by the very dynamic leadership that His Excellency Governor Babagana Umaru Zulum has been providing in Borno State in the last two years. He is very selfless and has been taking a lot of personal risks in order to guarantee the safety and welfare of his people.

I wish that every other person who has responsibility for the people at various levels will emulate Governor Zulum, instead of squandering so much time on unhelpful buck-passing and blame games. I have gone round to commission some of the capital projects executed by the Zulum Administration in two years. I am very happy with what I saw,” Buhari said during the commissioning.

Among the projects commissioned by Mr. President are: completion of the senate building, construction of two large hostels with 150 rooms for 1,200 students; construction of 34 units of duplexes and bungalows for Professors, senior and intermediate staff; and construction of seven kilometres of road and drainage network and undertook landscaping works across the University.

The President also commissioned two mega-size Government Day Technical Secondary Schools in Njimtilo and Goni Kachallari and a higher Islamic School, near the Shehu’s palace, all of which have 60 air-conditioned classrooms for at least 2,400 students; vocational workshops, laboratories for sciences and ICT, auditoriums and sporting facilities.

He also commissioned roads and drainages constructed in Jiddari Polo and first phase of 10,000 resettlement houses he had approved for Borno State from which 4,000 have been completed, among others.

The Yahaya Bello-led administration otherwise known as ‘New Direction Government’ on the other hand, has been in the news following its pronounced publicity stunt, especially using celebrities as political tools to gain goodwill in recent times. White Lion as fondly called by his supporters has received not less than 10 celebrities in the last two months in the state, with most of the visitors either ‘eating their cakes’ (without minding the backlashes at stake) or turning themselves to ‘praise singers’ in a bid to endorse the former ahead of the 2023 presidential election. What a great campaign strategy!

Recently, Super Eagles forward Kelechi Iheanacho aka ‘Senior man’ and ex-Super Eagles captain Mikel Obi respectively visited Yahaya Bello at the Lugard House in Lokoja, the state capital city. The two visits many Nigerians described as ‘shameful’ and ‘unnecessary’ considering the caliber of persons involved. But for Yahaya Bello, this is the time for ‘serious business’ and whatever the critics say is no way in match with his future ambition.

PoliticsJune 12: Democracy In Undemocratic Regime, What Next? by Gemid94(op): 3:04pm On Jun 12, 2021
By Arogbonlo Israel

Democracy Day in Nigeria is being celebrated on the 12th of June of every year. All thanks to President Muhammadu Buhari who, in his solidarity with the late Moshood Abiola popularly called MKO, changed the date from May 29 to June 12.

This day marks the transition of power from the military to a democratically-elected leader in 1999. However, the question now is, is the Nigeria today truly democratic when we still have cases of election rigging among other pitfalls confronting the polity?

It’s true and logical to say no democracy in the world is 100% perfect, but I would rather subscribe to the school of thought that advocate better governance in place of political tyranny.

Reflecting on the life and time of the late MKO, it is crystal clear that the Democracy being practiced in this regime is in no way comparable with what obtained in the 1993 election, an event many observers have described as the most significant in Nigeria’s post-independence political history. It is still viewed as the freest, fairest and most peaceful election ever held in Nigeria.

The 1993 election reflects the true form of democracy Nigeria ever had, as an estimated 14 million Nigerians – irrespective of ethnic, religious, class, and regional affiliations, (in a period when religious acrimony and tension had reached its zenith) – defied bad weather to elect their president with the hope of ending eight years of military dictatorships. What a democracy to behold!

If Nigeria must overcome its present political quagmire, I think it’s high time we reflected on the good of the 1993 political dispensation and make do with the tenets of the true democracy it brought to bear.

You can start food business

It depends on the demand there anyways but I think mapping out strategies to reach your potential customers is the first way to go.

You don't necessarily need to start big but with that 20k you can purchase basic things needed to begin the business.

PoliticsJUST IN: FG Gives Condition To Lift Twitter Ban by Gemid94(op): 2:03pm On Jun 07, 2021
The federal government has given a condition to lift its indefinite suspension of Twitter in Nigeria.

Geoffrey Onyeama, minister of foreign affairs, said at a meeting with some envoys that Twitter’s operations in Nigeria will be restored only if the platform can be used “responsibly.”

Asked when the ban will be lifted, Onyeama said there is no definite timeline for that, but added: “The condition would be responsible use of the social media and that really has to be it.”

“We are not saying that Twitter is threatening the country or any such thing; why we have taken this measure is to stop them to be used as platforms for destabilisation and facilitation of criminality or encouragement of criminalities,” he also said.

Christianity EtcTB Joshua: Some Interesting Facts You Should Know About Late SCOAN Founder by Gemid94(op): 12:28pm On Jun 06, 2021
By Arogbonlo Israel

Founder of the Synagogue Church of All Nations (SCOAN), Temitope Joshua, one of Africa's most influential evangelists, reportedly died at the age of 57.

A post on his verified Facebook page, which has more than five million followers, said: "God has taken His servant".

He was said to have died on Saturday, June 5, shortly after conducting a live broadcast, but the cause of his death has not been made public.

Here are few interesting facts you should know about the late SCOAN founder:

Temitope Balogun Joshua popularly called 'TB Joshua' was born 12th June 1963, in Ondo, Nigeria.

As a youngster, Joshua went to St. Stephen’s Anglican Primary School between 1971 and 1977, but that was where his schooling reportedly ended. He didn’t go to High School.

Due to his love for the Bible, he was called ‘small pastor’ at school. He was the leader of Scripture Union when he was in school, and ran Bible studies for the local children.

After school, TB Joshua had various casual jobs. He also reportedly tried to join the military, but his train broke down on the way to his interview, so he missed out.

He founded The Synagogue, Church of All Nations, in Nigeria. The organisation also runs the Emmanuel TV television station, which originates from Lagos.

TB Joshua is a self-proclaimed messenger of God. There are claims of miracle healings in his church, which probably accounts for some of the popularity.

TB Joshua is a major influence throughout Africa. He has over 2.5 million followers on Facebook and around 500,000 subscribers on YouTube. In April, YouTube suspended his account due to allegations of hate speech after a rights body filed a complaint over videos showing the preacher conducting prayers to "cure" gay people.

PoliticsTwitter Deletes Buhari's Civil War Tweet Amid Calls By Nigerians by Gemid94(op): 2:43pm On Jun 02, 2021
Twitter Inc on Wednesday deleted tweet posted by President Muhammadu Buhari on his official account @MBuhari following complaints by well-meaning Nigerians.

Buhari on Tuesday, May 1, drew the ire of some citizens after he threatened to clamp down on individuals perpetrating violence in the southeast region of the country.

Buhari’s threat was in reaction to the security reports he received from Southeast – where secessionist agitations have been heightened in the last six months.

According to him, those behind the violence in the Southeast were too young to understand the pains of the Nigerian civil war.

“There must be zero tolerance for all those bent on destroying our country by promoting crime and insurrection,” Buhari said.

Reacting, some of Buhari’s critics claimed that the president’s statement is an expression of the bias nature of his government since its inception in 2015, citing Buhari’s pleas to Boko Haram, bandits, and killer herdsmen who have killed hundreds and displaced thousands in the country.

Former presidential candidate Kingsley Moghalu said Buhari’s threat to the southeast “is not the kind of word he should say as the president.”

However, Vanguard learnt the said tweet deemed derogatory has now been deleted by Twitter.

CrimeInside Details Of How Ned Nwoko Allegedly Ordered Arrest Delta Community Leader by Gemid94(op): 4:08pm On May 19, 2021
Okey Ifejoku, a community leader in Idumuje-Ugboko village in Delta State has been in police detention since March 26.

A situation that has stirred serious agitations on social media in recent times as many keep wondering why the President of the Idumuje-Ugboko Development Union (IUDU) is being held for so long without trial.

How the social media crusade started

Twitter user, @pa_melanin (Pamela Ifejoku) has initiated the hashtag #freeOkeyIfejoku over the detention of her father, Okey Ifejoku and 9 other community leaders of Idumeje Ugboko village in Delta state for years, allegedly on the order of former House of Representatives member, Ned Nwoko.

Vanguard gathered that Ifejoku who is the elected President-General of IUDU was arrested by the Delta State Police Command on the alleged order of Nwoko in 2017.

The former lawmaker had accused him of sponsoring the indigenes of Aniocha North Local Government Area to protest against him and kick against his bid to forcefully acquire additional 90 hectares of land from an area earmarked for all indigenes of the community.

Pamela Ifejoku, in a viral video on her page to help demand freedom for her father, accused Nwoko and the police of malicious destruction of property, disobedience to the order of the court, assault occasioning harm, abuse of public office, unlawful arrest, false imprisonment and conduct likely to cause a breach of peace.

‘Ned Nwoko not party to the matter’

Reacting, Ned Nwoko through his media aide, Ifetayo Adeniyi, denied all the allegations levied against him claiming “he has paid about 200million in compensation as mandated according to the MoU that were signed and ceded 40% equity to the community on the income of Star University”.

“It was all lies. Ned is neither a complainant nor defendant in any way to the matter. It was the victims of the act of terrorism and arson that were committed led by the lady’s father in 2017. The victims (Iyese of Idumuje kingdom and others) with Nigeria Human Rights Commission instituted the case and those that were involved were arrested and charged to court.”

Business'How I Mistakenly Sent N37,000 Instead Of N3,700 To A Seller' by Gemid94(op): 1:28pm On May 05, 2021
I ordered for a product online yesterday, May 4, 2021. The product supposed to be purchased at the rate of N3,700 as agreed.

While receiving the package through the dispatch rider today, I mistakenly transferred N37,000 to the seller who I don't know from Adam.

Not long after, the seller called me back to inform me about the wrong transaction. I was really amazed to see someone as honest as her in such a time as this.

She promised to refund the money. Few minutes later, I received her alert of N33,300 as promised.

Truly, if our leaders can emulate this great attribute demonstrated by this honest seller, Nigeria would have been better place for all.

EducationGraduates Without ‘Sense’ (Part Two) by Gemid94(op):
In our previous conversation, I introduced us to a character (the amputee hawker) who amid all odds took it upon herself to hawk in the streets of Lagos in spite of her physical condition but one thing stood her out – her mental ability.

Today, we’ll be x-raying some of the major challenges Nigerian graduates are facing in the labour market.

Just before we roll, there is no country in the world that has 100 per cent workable system to cater for all the teeming population of youths graduating from institutions of higher learning on a yearly basis but what we have in most advanced or developed climes is a well-grounded sustainable goals aimed at rendering top-notch services to this stratum of the society as compared to what’s obtainable in the third world countries where inequality and inadequacies become the order of the day.

Hence, it is wisdom to be more self-reliance than government-dependent because, the latter is only there as a supportive machinery but the bulk of the work lies on you as a ‘graduate with sense’.

At this juncture, permit me to rephrase the topic under discourse from ‘Graduates without sense’ to ‘Graduates with sense’ because in this edition, you’ll be exposed to some things that will help change your mindset, thereby giving you a good and well-informed insight into becoming the geniuses you ought to be.

‘We have ourselves to blame’

Many a time, most graduates blame the government for all their predicaments or inabilities while sheering away from the realities around them. As a graduate, how many times have you sat yourself down to look for other alternative measures to solving the problem of unemployment in Nigeria.

One of the major challenges confronting graduates today is not that there are no jobs but the deficit in Nigeria’s education system which is highlighted by the fact that only one in four Nigerian graduates applying for a job will get a spot.

The reason is because most organisations are only interested in how employable you’re than the number of distinctions or high grades you bagged in class. The four walls of the university is far beyond passing exams while failing to understand the realities in the industry. Gone are the days first class graduates get suitable employment after university but today, we have many first class going into petty jobs to survive.

Statistics showed that, 36.26% of recent graduates are currently employed while about 2.9 million of Nigerian graduates are unemployed according to an online survey by Covenant University Repository.

In 2020 for instance, the estimated youth unemployment rate in Nigeria was at almost 14.2 per cent. According to the source, the data are estimates from the International Labour Organisation, an agency of the United Nations developing policies to set labour standards.

Based on the available data, we have more graduates than what organisations can accommodate because there are no room for them to recruit new staff as they ought to. We must therefore, look for other alternatives to getting a flowing income for ourselves, right?

This brings us back to our lead story of the physically-challenged Lagos hawker who has been in the news for distinguishing herself in spite of what the society dictates.

As I write, the lady is on the verge of becoming a millionaire in her twenties while we still have some April fools at 40 with little or no sense of what to do to make money works for them. You don’t need to be looking for job while you’ve what it takes to be employer of labour. The problem is that you have refused to learn the basics of harnessing wealth.

I remember after graduating from the university, I went back to the organisation I did my Industrial Training for freelancing. Despite the fact I was not on their payroll, I was never discouraged to discharge my duty as occasion demands. It was really an eye-saw as things became tougher and the onus lies on me to look for another alternative to be able to augment my expenses.

Guess what?

I pressed further without minding the distractions around me. As God would have it, a young man who came from a rival outlet picked interest in me as a result of my commitment and dedication to work as time goes by, and recommended me to where I work at the moment. What if I stopped going to the office, I would have missed the golden opportunity to get a suitable employment (in Ernest) and in turn, have myself to blame.

My dear compatriots, we need to change that mindset of until we ‘get a big job offer’ before we start applying for jobs.

To be candid, there are no big job offer anywhere. It takes God’s grace and connection to find your dream job. There is nobody that is great today that ever started great but it takes mastery and perseverance to ascertain greatness. Be passionate about building ‘process’ than striving for ‘success’. When you pass through the laws of process, success becomes an easy task to achieve.

CelebritiesThe Genesis To Revelation Of Ada Jesus’ Death by Gemid94(op): 1:13am On Apr 22, 2021
“My beloved fans, I have been sick for months that’s why I haven’t release any video yet. I’m fine now. Happy Christmas to you all.”

The above were the words of Mercy Cynthia Ginikachukwu popularly known as Ada Jesus on her Facebook page (Ada Jesus Comedy) dated 22 December 2019. Recall the popular Nigerian comedienne was diagnosed of kidney disease after feud with Prophet Chukwuemeka Ohanaemere aka Odumeje or Ndaboski Bahose.

The Genesis

It was earlier reported the comedienne claimed the Anambra-based prophet connived with Rita Edochie to stage fake miracles.

However, months after she made the allegations, Ada Jesus was diagnosed with a kidney problem that left her incapacitated.

Ndaboski was seen in the video, refusing to pray for the sick Ada Jesus, vowing her generations will suffer for the insults and lies against her. Edochie was present in that video and was heard vowing not to forgive the comedienne.

Peak of the matter

On February 25, Ada Jesus took to her Facebook to upload a video of herself asking for contributions from her followers as a result of her critical condition.

Following this, an Asaba-based native doctor, Chi Marine begged Prophet Chukwuemeka Odumeje to forgive comedienne Ada Jesus after forgiving the social media comedienne who allegedly wronged him as well. The native doctor stated that there’s nothing anyone can do that can’t be forgiven, and also said that he had to forgive her because he doesn’t know if he will live to see the next day.

In her part, Edochie, after facing much pressure from social media forgave Ada Jesus days after the Asaba-based native doctor begged Prophet Odumeje for forgiveness. However, Prophet Odumeje in a viral video on Saturday, April 17, said he forgave Ada Jesus and also gifted her a whopping sum of N1 million (1,000 000 naira), which was immediately rejected by her family members for reasons best known to them.

The Revelation

On Monday, April 19, Harrison Gwamnishu, an activist who doubles as Ada Jesus’ caretaker alongside other well-wishers organised a small celebration to celebrate the social media entertainer.

Femi Fani-Kayode’s estranged wife, Precious Chikwendu, was also at the hospital to celebrate with Ada Jesus.

News of Ada Jesus’ death

On Wednesday, April 21, two days after the comedinne’s birthday, Harrison Gwamnishu in an interview with BBC pidgin announced the death of Ada Jesus after battling with kidney disease for some months back. In his words: “She is gone.” Nigerians have taken to the social media to send their condolences to the family of the deceased who died at the age of 23. May her soul rest in peace!

EducationGraduates Without ‘Sense’ (part One) by Gemid94(op):
The choice of the topic ‘Graduates without sense’ is a deliberate, planned and well-thought action by the writer to correct some mental abnormalities among Nigerian graduates. It’s not by any way written to attack the image or personality of this stratum of the society but rather carefully scripted to stir up the geniuses in every Nigerian graduate who might have lost all hope in terms of job hunting or making earns meet.

Growing up, we were made to believe that after bagging a university degree or its equivalent, thence begins ‘Responsibility’ in its full capacity. By implication, you’re to fend for yourself, parents, and siblings by extension. As a result, chances are that you’ll need a lucrative job to meet up with your obligations as a graduate but do we really live up to this expectation? Today, the high rate of unemployment has eaten deep into every nook and cranny of the country as many now need to be up to the task before they can meet up with all these obligations.

At this point, we must be sincere with ourselves if we truly must enjoy the benefits life offers. Gone are the days we make fun with the nitty-gritty while we wallow in stream of ignorance. This article is not a friendly or ‘romantic’ but a thought-provoking eyeopener we need right now. The essence is for us to have a basis to correct some of the pitfalls in our educational sector.

Robert Kiyosaki (one of my mentors in the school of financial intelligence) once said; “Most education is designed to prepare people to live in a world that no longer exists”. Wow! Guess that sinks into your mind, right? Actually, many graduates are living in a world that no longer exists, hence, they are educated but lacks sense when it comes to making money works for them. Education teaches us money as a concept in Economics but abstract in reality because the understanding we have on how money works is myopic and limitless. The question now is, how do we make money works for us?

Nigerian graduates need to understand that the only way money can work for them is to actually work for it. You can't be sitting doing nothing and expect that money will work for you or rather giving yourself unrealistic projections you quite sure you won’t be able to execute. Stop the rat race! When last have you taken your phone to watch YouTube tutorials just to gain knowledge on how to make bead or learn a technique that will in turn bring money on your table? What we have as norm is majoring in the minor while minoring in the major. What a misplaced priority!

Wondering why I embedded the lady in the photo with the symbol of graduation beside it? The reason is not far-fetched; it is high time we stopped playing hide and seek with those things that are essential to our successful living. This is a lady who never allow her condition to hold her down but amidst all odds went into hawking to make a living. Today, she has made a name for herself as many kindhearted Nigerians have started to raise support for her. Guess what make her different? It is the will to never give up even when it seems to be over. This is a big challenge to all Nigerian graduates out there still looking for well paying jobs to start improvising on other areas they can venture into and stop waiting for that miracle job that never exists. The greatest disaster that can ever befall a man is to be waiting for an harvest in summer when one refuses to sow in winter.

PoliticsWhy We Allowed Wearing Of Hijab In Schools – Kwara Governor by Gemid94(op): 11:21am On Mar 24, 2021
Kwara State Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq says the decision by his administration to allow students to wear hijab in grant-aided mission schools was done in good faith.

He made this known in a statement on Tuesday by his media aide, Rafiu Ajakaye while reacting to violence that happened on Monday in Ilorin, the state capital.

The governor said his administration’s decision to allow students to wear hijab was based on consultations, meetings, brainstorming, and dispassionate weighing of policy options.

He condemned the attacks on churches, schools, and shops, attributing the sad incident to fifth columnists who are bent on causing violence in the state.

Abdulrazaq, however, hailed leaders of religious bodies for their understanding and leadership in the last few days.

The statement reads: “We took that decision in good faith and in the interest of all.

PoliticsHijab: The State Of Harmony At Centre Of Crisis by Gemid94(op): 11:09am On Mar 21, 2021
By Arogbonlo Israel

As paradoxically the headline may suggest, Kwara popularly known as ‘The State of Harmony’ has been engulfed at the centre of crisis following the hijab controversy making rounds in the media space in recent days. The crisis that became full-blown this week started in 2012 when Christian groups challenged the state government’s control of the schools.

The military government first proposed to take over missionary schools from churches and Islamic denominations in the late 1960s but did not carry it out until the early 1970s. In 1974, the General Yakubu Gowon-led federal military government completed the process despite dissent from some critics. Many of the affected schools, now grant-aided, had their names changed afterwards while some, like those in Kwara, retained their names.

But it has since been a tug of war as many canvassed for the return of the schools to the owners because the purpose of the handing-over appeared to be defeated. For instance, in the late 1970s, the Anglican bishops of the western states said one of their conditions for handing over their schools was that the government would continue the teaching of morals, physical and religious education, and encourage pupils to participate in the activities which would foster personal discipline and character training in the school. But can we really say they’re right for making that decision? A discussion for another day.

What led to the recent crisis

In 2012, owners of mission schools and some churches in Kwara approached the state government with a demand for the return of their schools. When the state government said it could not grant their request until the state’s Education Law of 2006 was repealed, the groups headed to court. The Christian groups, including the Incorporated Trustees of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Cherubim and Seraphim and Baptist Convention, filed the suit against the state government.

However, some Muslim groups joined in the suit as co-respondents because they were uncomfortable with the likely consequences of the return of the schools for their children. The state high court, in 2016, delivered its judgment in favour of the state government but the Christian groups appealed. However, the Court of Appeal in Ilorin on September 20, 2019, affirmed the judgment.

The four-member panel, in a unanimous judgment, said the appeal lacked merit. In the lead judgment delivered by Justice Saidu Hussein, the court held that the state government remains the owner of schools and the refusal of the schools to allow the use of hijab was discriminatory and not in line with the provisions of the Nigerian Constitution.

“The submission made on behalf of the appellants that section 38(3) of the Constitution allows them or gives them the exclusive right to make Christianity the only norm in the schools under focus is only wishful thinking. Such is not tenable in a heterogeneous set-up such as the schools under focus where students and pupils alike do not belong to the same religious community or denomination.

“The appeal on the whole falls and the same is dismissed as lacking in merit hence the judgement of the High Court of Justice of Kwara State delivered on the 17th May 2016 in Suit No. KWS/20C/2015 is affirmed,” the judge said.

The climax

About four weeks ago, a video footage emerged showing a Muslim schoolgirl at St. Barnabas College Ilorin alighting from a motorcycle and quickly removing her hijab and tucking same in her school bag. The bike man who took her there asked why she did so and the student said she is not allowed to wear the hijab within the school compound. The bike man goaded the girl to wear her hijab.

The poor girl hearkened to the voice of the okada man and entered the school with her hijab. On entering the school premises, a teacher ordered her to remove it, and there started a shouting match (between the bike man and the teacher). As a result, some Muslim students of Baptist school in their hundreds protested what they tagged ‘humiliation against their fundamental right’ while their Christian counterparts insisted there was not going to be hijab. This was how the centre of crisis in the state of harmony started, leaving the government in a ‘dilemma of many faces’.

The way forward

Having established the scenario that led to the recent crisis, it’s crystal clear that the concerned parties as a matter of urgency must come to the negotiation table and deliberate on the way out of this quagmire. The present crisis is beyond political gimmicks and should be treated with the utmost care because an injury to one is an injury to many others. The religious bodies should set aside their differences and embrace dialogue which is key to shedding light on the issue at stake. It’s high time the state government referred to the cases of Lagos and Osun respectively with a view of making a good judgment that will bring lasting solution to the crisis bedevilling the state.

The aforementioned states at a point in time faced hijab controversies and were able to handle them in the best possible way that led to the resolution of the crises. Kwara state should not act in isolation in this stance but must be proactive rather than being reactive about the whole thing. A word is enough for the wise.

PoliticsDoyin Okupe: I Wept The Day I Found Out My Son, Bolu Is Gay by Gemid94(op): 3:31pm On Mar 18, 2021
In an interview with VanguardLiveTv's The Controversy, Doyin Okupe, a former aide to Former President, Goodluck Jonathan has revealed that he shed tears the day he found out that his son, Bolu is gay.

Okupe admits regretting letting Bolu move abroad at a young age, he lived part of his life in France a place he described as giving a chance to what his son has become.

Recall when Bolu came out months ago as gay, his dad had said he was against it and says they will be helping him with prayers.

His words to Vanguard: “We’ve always known that Bolu was like that. He’s even much more than that. He’s incredible with what he does and capable of doing. All his other siblings are one but Bolu had designed his mind to never live in Nigeria.

"Unfortunately for me, his mother took him abroad very early. He did major parts of his secondary school in the United Kingdom.

"So, Bolu thinks he lives European (he’s my son) but his mind is European. I also know that he’s easily influenced by his environment. I know that for a fact because he came home one time for holiday, and this is the person that’s been questioning the Bible but all of a sudden, he’s on fire in terms of scripture having spent some months in Nigeria. His elder brother who is a pastor now helped him spiritually during that time.

PoliticsThe Advent Of Military Was The Greatest Disaster Nigeria Ever Had — Okupe by Gemid94(op): 4:15pm On Mar 17, 2021
A former spokesperson for two former Presidents ( Olusegun Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan), Dr Doyin Okupe, says the advent of military into Nigeria’s political landscape was the greatest disaster the country ever had.

He made this assertion during an interview with VanguardliveTV’s The Controversy on Wednesday. According to him, Nigeria derailed from the blueprint and in turn, there was a ‘change of destiny’ that led to its disastrous fall.

“The Nigerian aeroplane ran into bad weather along the journey. Some nearly caused serious plane crash for us. The advent of military was the greatest disaster that ever befall this country.

“We actually derailed from the blueprint. I’m not a philosopher or whatever but is like, we moved from a course into another plane. So, is just like when you move from platform A to platform G. For instance, a plane that’s going from here (Lagos) to Kano is on platform A. You’re trying to board the plane and now move on to platform G which is actually going to Umuahia. So, you see that your destiny changes immediately,” he said.
