HealthA Must Read: Seven Top Facts About Coronavirus by Gemid94(op):
Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is an infectious disease caused by a new virus.

The disease causes respiratory illness (like the flu) with symptoms such as a cough, fever, and in more severe cases, difficulty breathing.

Recall there has been on record over 377, 000 cases affecting 195 countries and territories around the world as at Monday, 23rd March 2020.

Here are the seven top facts to note about the deadly coronavirus pandemic;

1. Corona is a large virus. The diameter of the virus is 400-500 micro, so that any type of mask can prevent entry into our bodies and does not need to use expensive masks.

2. Corona virus does not float in the air, but sticks to objects, so that transmission is not through the air.

3. When attached to a metal surface, the corona virus can live for 12 hours. Washing hands with soap and water is enough.

4. When attached to a cloth, the corona virus can live for 9 hours, so washing clothes or drying it in the sun for 2 hours is enough to kill it.

5. When attached to the hand, the corona virus can live for 10 minutes, so that it provides an alcohol-based _sterilizer_enough to be on guard.

6. When in the air at temperatures 26-27 ° C, the corona virus will die so it does not live in hot areas. In addition, drinking hot water and basking in the sun is enough as a precaution. Avoiding cold foods and drinks including ice cream is very important.

7. Gargling to deep with warm water and salt will kill the corona virus around the pharynx (landslide-Jw.) And prevent it from entering the lungs.

An inter-denominational thanksgiving church service was held in Akure on Sunday to mark the 3rd Anniversary of Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu in Ondo.

The special church service took place at the International Conference and Cultural Centre (Dome), Akure with many prominent people including Deputy Governor, Hon Agboola Ajayi, Speaker, Ondo State House of Assembly; Hon Bamidele Oleyelogun, Chief judge of Ondo State; Justice Oluwatoyin Akeredolu among others.

The guest speaker was Bishop of Akoko Anglican Diocese, Rt. Rev. Jacob Bada who urged the congregation to see the Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu as God's divine project.

He said: "Governor Akeredolu is God's project for the people of Ondo state. We must all support him to achieve a new Ondo where development would be visible."

According to him, a new Ondo is achievable if everyone irrespective of their political affiliations rise to fight the progress of the state by upholding peace and justice.

"Just as I was coming from Akoko today, my driver spent just 1 hour 30 minutes (instead of the initial 3 hours) to get here because the roads are now motorable. Everywhere you go in Ondo is one road construction to another, development of one senatorial district to another because one man is working," he said.

Nairaland General"Don't Allow My Dream To Die", 18yr Old Acid Bath Victim Cries For Help by Gemid94(op): 8:15am On Jan 17, 2020
Family they say is the major bedrock of the society, a support force and an agent of socialization. What then happen to the main purpose of belonging to a family, when siblings become enemy of themselves, children becoming murderers of their parents and themselves.

One of such cases is that of Miss Munirat Alhaji, an 18 years old indigene of Ojodu, Dekina Local Government Area of Kogi State, who was unfortunately burnt by acid poured on her by her own blood brother.

Munirat is currently going through severe pains and close to the point of self condemnation, in the female surgical ward of Federal Medical Center Lokoja.

We gathered that her brother, who is currently cooling off in the Police net, accused their mother of been responsible for his inability to be successful in life after consulting a witch doctor.

Narrating the incident in her hospital bed with pains, Miss Munirat said “I was sleeping that unfaithful day at about 1am in the night of 28th August 2019. Suddenly, I heard my mother shouting from her room. When I rushed down to her place, I discovered that my brother had poured acid on her body. He didn’t stop there.

“My brother went further to use stick to hit mother as if something is manipulating him. When I tried to stop him from killing mother, he then decided to pour the acid on my face and body. That was how I found my self in Federal Medical Center Lokoja. I was shocked when my brother said he consulted a native doctor who informed him that she is responsible for his travails.

“My mother died three months after both of us were admitted here in FMC Lokoja due to primary damage done on her by the chemical. Now for me to survive, the hospital said I need about two million naira to undergo surgery and pay all outstanding bills in the hospital

“I am from a poor family. My mother is dead now. Nigerians should save my life. Don’t allow me die like my mum due to the acid burns. My dream in life is be a great woman in this world. Please, don’t allow this dream to die as am in a critical condition in Federal Medical Center Lokoja”

While pleading for financial support so as to increase her hope of survival Miss Munirat said should could be reached via this phone number 08155546519. Also with the following account details:

Account Name: Munirat Alhaji
Account Number: 2140712131
Bank: UBA

Meanwhile, the doctor in charge of the case, Dr Ebune Ojochide, a Consultant Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon, with the Federal Medical Center Lokoja, in an interview with our correspondent stated that Miss Munirat, a Senior Secondary School II student, was admitted on 29th August 2019 with acid burns which was said to be done by her sibling.

Dr Ojochide said a lot of treatment have been carried out on the patient stressing that acid burn is not something that can be worked on immediately.

The surgeon noted that what they have now is the scaring and damages done on the skin that needs correction and it requires stage by stage procedures to bring back to near perfection.

“The major reason why the attack was carried out was primarily to cause damage and disfigure the victim. We need to improve the function armies such as the mouth, ear and appearance although not to perfection but near perfection.

The major obstacle holding them is the challenge of mobilising funds for the surgery to improve her appearance and give her hope of survival,” he stated.

On the cause of her mother’s death, Dr Ebune explained that the mother sustained primary damages which resulted to her death.

He, however, appealed to the government to try and limit access to deadly chemicals like acid, adding that is becoming worrisome that it is been used to perpetuate crime in the society.

PoliticsFLASHBACK: How Mbaka Boldly Predicted Ihedioha’s Removal As Imo Gov. by Gemid94(op): 11:56pm On Jan 14, 2020
Following the Apex court ruling nullifying Governor of Imo Emeka Ihedioha's victory in the last gubernatorial election in the state, without mincing words, the New Year prophecy of Reverend Father Ejike Mbaka seems to have come to fruition.

The Supreme Court on Tuesday sacked Governor Emeka Ihedioha from office and declared Senator Hope Uzodinma as the validly elected governor of Imo state.

Recall Vanguard reported how Mbaka of Adoration Ministry, Enugu, had in his 2020 New Year message prophesied that Uzodinma of the All Progressives Congress (APC) will “take over” power from the incumbent Governor Ihedioha of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the year 2020.

Iheadioha’s tenure ordinarily would have elapsed in 2023.

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Imo State chapter, had slammed Mbaka over the prophecy, saying it was opposed to “politically motivated prophesies”

In his prophecy, Mbaka revealed: “I don’t know the manner the revelation will manifest but no prophecy has ever been declared on this prayer ground without coming to pass,” the cleric had said, adding, “In spite of all that would happen this 2020, there is hope. In Imo State, there is hope. Hope, hope, hope. Hope in Imo State. Imo people have suffered but God is raising a new hope that would be an agent of salvation for them.”

CrimeCleric Stabs Wife, Kills Self On Church's Altar by Gemid94(op): 12:56pm On Jan 07, 2020
It was a black day in Kenya as a pastor horrified his congregation when he repeatedly stabbed his wife in the pulpit during Sunday service and then sliced his own throat.

Mr Elisha Misiko, 55, was the pastor of the Ground for God's Gospel Ministries in Mombasa County, which he co-managed with his wife, Ms Ann Mghoi.

One of the village elders Mr Mtengo Amuri said that Mr Msiko sat down calmly at the start of the Sunday service before standing up and moving 'stealthily' towards his wife, revealing the two knives hidden under his shirt as he walked.

Nairaland General"No NIN, No Registration": Whose Benefit? by Gemid94(op): 5:16pm On Jan 03, 2020
"The recent government’s policy which makes the possession of the National Identity Number (NIN) as one of the conditions for registering for the Unified Matriculation Examination (UME) for admission into the university and other tertiary institutions is another example of a good policy that is being implemented at the wrong time," says the Sun in one of its editorials dated back 9th November 2019.

It is against this backdrop we must first of all reconcile the idea behind the need for UME candidates to get NIN to be qualified for the 2020 UME before making recommendations on how to improve the process. Consequently, the spokesperson for JAMB, Dr Fabian Benjamin was quoted to have said: “The JAMB will, during the 2020 registration exercise, use the National Identity Number (NIN) generated after successful registration with the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC).

“This includes the capturing of biometric and other necessary details for the registration of all prospective candidates. Candidates are enjoined to register as the board will no longer be responsible for the capturing of candidates’ biometrics ahead of the examination, as all information required will be uploaded from the data captured by the NIMC. UNICEF hands over 22 renovated PHCs to Bauchi Government. Henceforth, the NIN will be compulsory for the UTME registration.”

Following this declaration by the board, the House of Representatives on 12th November 2019, urged JAMB to extend the commencement year for the compulsory use of National Identification Number (NIN) for better awareness. This implies, the policy came at a time where the policymakers failed to give room for the populace to fathom the essence of such policy so as to prepare themselves for the next phase of life. The question now begging for answers is, why must JAMB make the registration compulsory for its candidates when the so-called political leaders are never in anytime required to provide such means of identification during elections? For me, what's sauce for the goose is also sauce for the gander. If the politicians could conduct the last elections without such requirement needed for their candidature so, whose benefit is "No NIN, no registration" policy?

It's indeed pitiable to see how these candidates stand in front of NIMC centres across the federation like sheep without shepherds. Such scenario is not needed in a age where technology is the mainstay for every human interaction. Most of the time, some candidates arrive as early as 3am at the few offices of the NIMC scattered throughout the federation and queue in the open for hours on end for an exercise that would probably start five hours later, or even do not start at all, only to return the next day for the same ordeal. Due to power failure and poor Internet service, no NIMC centre has registered more than 20 persons daily since the inception of the exercise.

This is unacceptable in an Internet age where the means of communication are varied, versatile and largely efficient. It's on this note that such chaotic nature of the NIN registration exercise should bemoaned as urgent intervention is needed to make thee process and less hazardous. In other words, there is need to simply make the process of registering for the NIN card easily accessible to all and sundry. If truly the management of the NIMC is aware of the hurdles Nigerians pass through to register for NIN, they ought to have come up with more innovative ways to make the process less cumbersome for the candidates who are the change makers of today (not tomorrow as often implied).

It is pertinent to note that, for us to move at a very fast pace as a nation, we must begin to leverage the potentialities of today's digital age to make things easier rather than putting ourselves under unnecessary pressure In the name of introducing a policy for the benefits of all. There is need for the two parties (JAMB and NIMC) involved in this process to go back to the board and restrategise plans so as to make the registration easy for all the candidates.
