NYSCNYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Ondo: Everything You Need To Know About by Gemid94(op): 11:14am On Nov 11, 2020
Location: NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Ondo is located at Off Ado Ekiti-Ikare Road, Ikare-Akoko, Ondo. This camp ground is where the 3 weeks NYSC Orientation Course takes place. It involves physical drills, lectures and training, and social activities intended to foster interactions among Corps members.

Management team: The following are the management team of NYSC Ondo Permanent Orientation Camp: The State Coordinator, Mrs. Grace Akpabio, Mr Oyebade Babatunde (AD PRS), Mr Suru John Henry (AD Deployment and Relocation), Mr. Ogunfidodo Adebowale (AD Inspection and Monitoring), Mrs. Fashola Adejoke (AD Corps Displine and Reward), Mr. Anabor Peter (Assistant Director), Mrs. Ehimwenma Itohan (AD SAED), Mr. Bankole Simeon (Head, Press and Public Relations Unit), Mr. Thompson Babatunde (Head, ICT), the list endless.

Best features: The camp ground features structures and facilities for swearing-in ceremony, paramilitary drills, accommodation rooms, lecture halls, open field for sports and assembly and many of such. There are military personnel who train Corps members on appropriate military ceremonial matching, sports, as well as Man-O-War physical drills. There is the large market operated by the locals popularly called "Mami Market" where all camp needs are sold, including food and drinks. Also, there are well equipped worship centres for both Christian and Muslim Corps members.

Other features: There is a friendly-OBS team in the camp led by the Public Relations Officer, Mr. Bankole Simeon in conjunction with other versatile members of the editorial staff. The Orientation Broadcasting Service, popularly called OBS, is the voice of NYSC. Like every radio station, it disseminates information and keeps Corps members in camp abreast of happenings and entertained them with other hilarious programmes.

Another feature is the topnotch Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme Corps members are exposed to. The Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development scheme is an initiative of the NYSC driven to aid corp members in obtaining necessary skills that will encourage them in turn to pursue entrepreneurship careers in order to reduce their possible time spent in the labour market in search of paid employment. The Ondo SAED is headed by Mrs. Itohan Ehimwenma.

What to bring: Before heading to NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Ondo, here are some helpful things to take along with you: Your required documents such as Call-up letter, Statement of Result, Student ID Card, etc., passport photographs, waist pouch, white tees and shorts, cash, housing necessities, among other basic necessities to make your camping fun and inspiring.

My review: It is worthy of note to know that Orientation Camp is the best part of NYSC. Here, you meet people from all parts of the country and learn and accept local customs and different cultures, make new friends, build camaraderie and learn what to expect during your service year. All through your stay in the camp, except Sunday worship mornings, you will wear your all-white tees, shorts and shoes. You will be served meals three times daily but most Corps members prefer eating at the Mami Market where the choice and quality of food is better and preferable. There is always an activity for each time of the day, with brief moments in the evening allowed for personal use. Go to camp with an open mind and a thirst for adventure and you will enjoy it to the fullest. You can leave a message in the comment section for me in case you need more information about the camp.

Foreign AffairsAnalysis: How Winner Of US 2020 Election Would Be Decided by Gemid94(op): 10:32pm On Nov 08, 2020
Unlike Nigeria with its Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, the US follows a different process in finally certifying the winner of the presidential election.

The certification largely rests on the congress which is expected to convene on January 6, 2021.

In Nigeria, only the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has the power to declare a candidate winner of the presidential election. The process, however, is different in the US — where Joe Biden, candidate of the Democratic Party, has just been announced winner of the keenly contested 2020 presidential election.

While there is a central collating centre in Nigeria where results from across states are sent to, elections in the US are conducted by the state-based independent electoral bodies which also reserve the rights to announce the results to the media upon final counting.

Indeed, in the US, there is no federal electoral body concerned with the business of the presidential election. The Federal Election Commission which could be likened to INEC primarily focuses on enforcing federal campaign finance law.

Elections in the US are first certified at the state level, and it is based on this that electors to the electoral college are picked and who would then officially vote for the president.

Media play significant roles in announcement.

The media plays a crucial role in the US presidential election as they project and then declare a winner based on the reading of the data they track from the state election bodies.

The electoral bodies also largely rely on the media to announce results from the states.

Even when the counting process was still in progress, the majority of US media organisations had on Saturday announced Biden as winner of the election, based on their projection.

Expectedly, Donald Trump, incumbent and candidate of the Republican Party, said the media cannot decide the next US president.

In the president’s estimation, the election is far from over and Biden was “using his media allies to declare himself winner.”
He said, “Joe Biden has not been certified as the winner of any states, let alone any of the highly contested states headed for mandatory recounts”.

Joe Biden, the United States, US, Democratic candidate, on Wednesday pointed out who would decide the winner of the ongoing presidential election.

Biden disclosed that US electorates would decide the winner of the presidential election.

He disclosed this while faulting calls by the incumbent president, Donald Trump that he would emerge winner of the ongoing election.

Trump had made the remark during his last campaign on Monday and via his Twitter handle on Wednesday respectively.

It's not my place or Donald Trump's place to declare the winner of this election. It's the voters' place.

CrimeEndsars: I'm Not Dead! Lady Cries Out After Seeing RIP On Social Media by Gemid94(op): 7:25pm On Oct 27, 2020
A lady allegedly killed by the Nigerian Army during the shooting that greeted the #ENDSARS protest at Lekki Tollgate, Lagos, said she's still alive and hearty.

She said the rumours of her death was a purported attack by unscrupulous elements who hid under the End SARS protest to tarnish her image.

Security agents had shot at #ENDSARS protesters at the Lekki Tollgate on Tuesday, October 20, leading to yet-to-be ascertained number of casualties.

The shooting incident had also attracted national and international outcry, with the Lagos State and Federal governments being urged to unravel the identity of the shooters and who deployed them.

The alleged Lekki Tollgate death victim, Stephen Becky, spoke to our correspondent via telephone call on Tuesday while describing the news of her death as "untrue and unbelievable".

Becky, who finished from Jireh Educational Centre in 2018, hails from Rivers State where she currently resides with her father and six other siblings.

According to her, she got the news of her death from a friend of her elder sister who screenshot it from a group and sent to her sister's Direct Message (DM).

"Someone posted my picture that I was among the people that was shot at Lekki Tollgate. I was very sad and angry for someone to use my picture to write RIP (Rest in Peace) when I am still alive.

"Please, I want people to know that I am very much alive, the tension they are giving my parents and siblings is too much," Becky told Vanguard Community during an exclusive interview.

PoliticsFive Reasons APC Won Ondo Guber Poll by Gemid94(op): 12:10am On Oct 12, 2020
Written by Arogbonlo Israel

The following are reasons the All Progressive Congress won the just concluded gubernatorial election in Ondo:

1. Just like his Edo counterpart, Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu was able to win the just concluded Ondo governorship election as a result of the powers at his disposal as the incumbent Governor of the state.

2. Akeredolu's doggedness and boldness in face of opposition also played out in the just concluded poll. A victory against Akeredolu may have been possible, but the governor took major steps to put his house in order just before the election as all warring factions of his party formed united front in build up for his reelection.

3. Another major factor that contributed to the victory of APC in Ondo is the intervention of the government at the Federal level who gave its full support to the incumbent Governor as a result of his proven track records. In President Buhari's words; “I have no doubt that Governor Rotimi Akeredolu is a good brand for the APC to market.”

4. The timely suspension of the former APC Chairman, Adams Oshiomhole forms a major antecedent to the emergence of Governor Akeredolu as the preferred candidate of the party. You would recall the party under the leadership of the former had suspended Akeredolu alongside Rochas Okorocha, former Imo governor, Ibikunle Amosun, former Ogun governor, among others, over anti-party activities in the build-up to the 2019 elections, hence, Akeredolu would have lost the party's ticket if Oshiomhole was still at the helms of affairs. Reason: the Ondo governor and Oshiomhole may not have been on the smoothest of relationships following their differences over the leadership of the party. Following this, many were concerned over the possibility of the party handing the ticket to another candidate.

5. Lastly, vote buying by party agents across polling units in the state also contributed a major factor to the victory of the party at the poll. According to reports from election observers and journalists, while not much in terms of violence was witnessed during the governorship poll, the distribution of cash for votes, although done discreetly in many polling units, was the order of the day, with many party agents who claimed to be representatives of the APC outspending their rivals. Attesting to this, the State Chairman of the opposition party PDP described the action as "weaponisation of poverty" which later turned out in APC's favour.

PoliticsOndo 2020: How APC Thugs Attacked PDP Candidate's Convoy by Gemid94(op): 11:58pm On Sep 29, 2020
The candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the October 10 gubernatorial poll in Ondo, Mr. Eyitayo Jegede, SAN, has accused the ruling party APC for disrupting its rally in Ipele and Owo township in Owo Local Government of the state through the instrumental of heavily armed political thugs.

In a statement, signed on Tuesday, by Jegede's spokesperson, Samuel Fasua, said one of the PDP supporters identified as Hon. Amuda Sikiru, was shot in the face and abdomen during the campaign rally in the area.

Christianity EtcPastor Ibiyeomie Vs Daddy Freeze: Ali Baba Reacts by Gemid94(op): 6:05pm On Sep 08, 2020
Veteran comedian, Ali Baba has joined several other Nigerians to lend his voice to the ongoing drama between popular media personality Daddy Freeze and man of God, Pastor David Ibiyeomie.

Recall the spiritual leader had publicly lampooned Freeze for daring to counter fellow man of God, Bishop David Oyedepo, who had said that women must submit to their husbands.

The Porthacourt based pastor while calling out Freeze in front of his congregation launched a verbal attack on him and also labelled him a bast*rd.

In reaction, comedian Ali Baba pulled up some pictures of Freeze and his parents and posted it on social media to counter the claims by Ibiyeomie.

"Pastor, emmm regarding that your question. Ehen, oops!!!, There he is... his father. I have met the Mum Twice. But I believe that’s the Dad... will ask Freeze tomorrow. But if he is his father, can’t there be a defamation case somewhere there? Asking for a friend," Ali Baba wrote as he shared the photo.

PoliticsLawmaker: Nigeria Now Capital Poverty Of The World Under APC by Gemid94(op): 8:11pm On Sep 07, 2020
A member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the lower chamber, Tajudeen Yusuf in a statement sent to newsmen on Monday, September 7, said with the simultaneous hike in the prices of fuel and electricity, the woes of millions of Nigerians have been further compounded.

According to the lawmaker, instead of celebrating Nigeria’s 60th independence anniversary in a few weeks, “the APC federal government has taken steps to ensure that too many citizens will further wallow in miserable poverty and depression.”

“Nigerians emerged from the COVID-19 lockdown, hoping that government’s much-expected fulfilment of its populist slogans will follow the good examples of other countries, including nearby Ghana," he added.

“Instead, a few weeks to our 60th independence anniversary, they again brought additional insensitive yokes upon the people. “Compared with the pre-2015 prosperity era, the cost of one bag of rice rose from N8, 500 to now equal minimum wage, Naira now exchanges for N420 instead of N200 and Nigeria’s debts rose from $9. 7 billion to $27 billion while they now look for even more loans.”

The House of Rep member accused the Buhari-led government of promising a better life for Nigerians, “but only made Nigeria the poverty capital of the world.”

InvestmentSmoking, Vaping May All Raise COVID-19 Risks, Studies Suggest by Gemid94(op): 10:12am On Sep 07, 2020
Recent researches by Australian scientists have confirmed that smoking just three cigarettes can trigger a flurry of increased activity in the part of the genome that codes for a protein known as ACE2.

The protein lies on the surface of many different types of cells in the human body, including in the nose, lungs and blood vessels. ACE2 is like the 'lock' to coronavirus's key - the spike protein - allowing the virus to enter and hijack a cell, Daily Mail reports.

Scientists also found evidence that even secondhand smoke can have a similar effect on ACE2 cells in children as young as one.

It comes after an August study found that vapers are five times more likely to test positive for coronavirus, compared to those who don't use e-cigarettes.

Smoking, vaping and secondhand smoke can all have damaging effects upon the lungs and broader respiratory system, so it stands to reason that they might increase COVID-19 risks - but scientists are still largely unsure of how, or why.

A pre-print of an Australian study suggests that cigarette smoke may trigger an uptick in proteins on human cell surfaces that act like doorways for coronavirus. Nicotine in e-cigs may well have the same effect, and one study found young vapers are at five-fold greater risk for COVID-19 (file).

Solicitors to His Royal Majesty, Dr.Michael Idakwo Ameh Oboni II and Igala Area Traditional Council have faulted the announcement of the demise of the monarch which runs contrary to the culture and tradition of the people.

Nairaland GeneralOlukoya Reacts To Fraud Allegation On UK Church by Gemid94(op): 11:38pm On Aug 22, 2020
Founder and General Overseer of Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries (MFM), Pastor Daniel Olukoya, has denied engagement in any fraudulent activities as being portrayed in some sections of the media, which he accused of being sponsored to tarnish his reputation.

This was contained in a statement signed by the founder's media aide, Mr. Collins Edomaruse on Saturday.

The statement partly reads;

"It has become pertinent for the purpose of clarity to respond to the false allegations being peddled against the Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries and our General Overseer – Dr. D. K. Olukoya in the social media particularly sponsored by SaharaReporters. These allegations are seven (7) in number namely:

"No. 1 That Dr. Olukoya falsely claimed residence of US city of Maryland.

"Nothing can be further from the truth. Dr. Olukoya is a public figure nationally and internationally. His domicile is therefore a fact of public knowledge. The true position is that the Pastor who wanted to register MFM in Maryland inserted Dr. Olukoya’s name without prior consultation with or knowledge of the G.O because he believed that Dr. Olukoya should be involved but after he consulted a lawyer and received advice that a person’s name cannot be on the incorporation documents unless he is resident in Maryland, that registration was put in abeyance and allowed to lapse. The Pastor is still alive and all the evidence are there for all to see at the Company Registry in Maryland.

"No. 2 Allegation is that Dr. Olukoya Illegally Imported books into the United States and evaded payment of Customs duties on those books."

"This is also untrue. Dr. Olukoya’s books are sold on Amazon. It is fool hardy for anyone to suggest that he brought in his books to US illegally when he can and has been doing so legally. This false allegation was pioneered by a former Pastor of MFM who tried to steal MFM Branch in Maryland. He conceived this lie as his defence to a civil Suit the Church brought against him in the County Court in Maryland. This concocted lie could best be described as the wild thrashings of a drowning man intent on bringing everybody down with him. However, in defence of this allegation, MFM brought its book keeper to testify in court who produced all the receipts of payment and customs documents and, in the end, the Judge not only thrashed the wild allegation but gave judgement in favour of MFM

"No. 3 is the allegation that the Trustees in the UK were suspended.

"This is completely false. They were never suspended. They are still in charge of the Church even up till now.

"No. 4 is the allegation of fraud against the Trustees of MFM UK.

"The trustees were never indicted. We can authoritatively say that no Trustee of MFM-UK has ever committed fraud.

"No. 5 is the allegation that Dr. Olukoya connived with someone to steal 150,000 pounds.

"This is a complete fabrication from the fevered minds of the defamers. Fortunately, all the people that took money illegally are still alive. The genesis of this allegation is that the lease of one of our branches in London contained a clause which stipulated that any party who broke the Lease for any reason before its expiration would pay a penalty of 150,000 British Pounds to the other party. It happened that the owner of the property broke the lease and sold the property to a third party which necessitated the Church relocating from the building. The property owners honoured their obligation and paid the penalty sum of 150,000 pound which the Pastor of that branch somehow found a way of paying it into his personal account without informing the Headquarters and conspired with the external auditors to shield that income from discovery. It was much later that a member of that branch brought to the attention of Headquarters that such amount of money had been received by the Pastor.

"Headquarters immediately set up a panel to investigate the incident and give fair hearing to the Pastor concerned. He attended the sitting of the panel and unequivocally admitted the theft. The Panel directed him to refund the money immediately. Upon receipt of the report of the Panel, the General Overseer issued the Pastor an ultimatum in writing to pay back the money within forty-eight (48) hours whereupon he promised to re-mortgage his house in London to comply. It was later brought to the attention of Dr. Olukoya that this ultimatum had not been complied with by the Pastor who, on his own, began to repay the money by instalments."

SportsKoeman: Barca New Manager Speaks On Messi's Future by Gemid94(op): 7:33pm On Aug 19, 2020
Barcelona newly signed manager Ronald Koeman on Wednesday, has made his stance known on Lionel Messi's possible departure from the Spanish side following the current situation in the club.

Koeman joins Barca as he leaves his role with the Netherlands national team, and he'll find that his old club is currently in a state of disarray.

Technical Director Eric Abidal has followed Setien out the door, while Barca president Josep Maria Bartomeu faces an election in March.

The president has already stated that several Barca stars are available for transfer, with the club only committing to keeping hold of individuals they see as key players.

One player that the club is eager to hold on to is Messi, although recent reports have stated that the captain is fed up with Barca's decision-making and is considering a departure from Camp Nou.

Koeman, meanwhile, is hopeful that Messi stays on with the club for as long as possible as he looks forward to working alongside the club's long-time star.

"I don't know if I have to convince Messi or not," Koeman said on Wednesday. "You want to have the best in the world in your team, not the opposite.

Christianity EtcBishop Oyedepo: Don't Claim Ownership Of God's Church by Gemid94(op):
Founder of Living Faith Church Worldwide, Bishop David Oyedepo has said it is unbiblical for church leaders to claim ownership of their churches saying “it’s God’s church” not theirs.

Oyedepo made the declaration in a message on Sunday, August 9 during the online service of the ministry.

He said, “There is nothing like my wife and I ministry. There is no such thing in the Bible. It’s God’s church, not our church. It is wrong to claim ownership of God’s church.”

Making further clarification, he said “not one single thing that belongs to God should be named after me. Covenant University should never be named after me after I am long gone. The ancient of days owns it, not me. So let nobody be zealous to go and put my name on it.”
