Who told you that..

The probability is 50/50. It's a harsh reality of war; MEN DIE !
I totally agree with you that it's 50/50 but will they want to die? That's why they prepare, they want better weapon, body armor than the enemy. I believe that more than 50 % of the military casualty in the North East are avoidable if the army had done what they were supposed do.

Dude you are funny, it's really sad that the army is taking a step forward and few steps backward.

But let me tell you the harsh reality; in these type of complex war we will lost good soldiers. Leave it or take it cool there is no shame in it, period.
I've never seen any soldier going to war knowing absolutely that he is going to die. Soldiers fight wars to survive, that's why they prepare and train. If soldiers die it should be because of unavoidable situations.

Sorry I didn't expantiate well.

For deployment you will not be paid for housing allowances only field/feeding allowance where it applies.

But if you are been transfered from region X to Y and there is no accommodation in the barracks, then you will be paid housing allowance.
War is no child's play I agree with you but the way the military hierarchy is handling it its as if they don't care. How can they be on one same tactic every year. Boko Haram attacks every raining season and the army on the defensive. Even right now that it's dry season BH has also siezed the initiative from the army. And finally in situations like this what do we see;they begin to change theater commanders,as if that has been able to solve anything. Mtcheeew.

We lost some good men but I think these news agencies are inflating the casualty figure.
Even if it's one life lost it means something and it's a big shame that the military is always back and forth with this rag tag insurgents.

If Ahmed Salkida is such an expert on BHT, why doesn't he point the army in the direction of Shekau?

Why didn't he also say it last year when the guy supposedly died?
The guys info are most times true but I suspect he is sympathetic to BHT.

No need for this. We would only fuel the cycle of hate Henry wants. I'm honestly shocked when I see post like "incompetent South African military.... "
Then I totally lose it when I see very silly Nigerians openly supporting such posts. Like why?

See how they are only bothered because I rightly called someone an Id!ot, but they won't mind me calling South African military incompetent.
Well if you want to continue the insults enjoy as much as you want. One thing I'm very sure of is that opinions are going to differ, wether they are true or not, but it doesn't change any fact. Will it hurt me if the failings of Nigerian army are shown here? Nope.It is what it is and only points that there's room for improvement;even the best sometimes get it wrong."Then I totally lose it when I see silly Nigerians..." It's enough if one or two Nigerians should call him out and I'm sure you are not expecting every Nigerian that visits this place to call him out. Henry240, if you can please stop posting anything about South Africa, na with God I dey beg you, enough of this cycle of Nigeria Vs South Africa, there are people that thrive on this from both sides and before you know it they will flood here with their hate

I understand and agree with you. But seriously whatever is said here might be true or false, at the same time doesn't change any fact. Believe anything said on nairaland at your own peril.
P.S my take is that people are getting too serious about issues here to the point of insults. My post wasn't even referring to you but the normal Nigerian/SA bullshit.

Correct but should that stop u or anybody from correcting the wrong or should they keep quite becz that might be mistaken as being getting offended.

I swear if I wear to be in the military and a recruit, Walahi no be only order, I will not go. That I swore to defend and die for my father land doesn't mean that I should be killed like a chicken. If I will be charged for desertion and even sentenced to die, better for me that I was killed by my comrades in arms/the same people I swore to protect than to be killed by one fucking jihadist that is fighting to get 70 pu..ies.

Guy forget this talk abeg. They retreated when they were attacked and some retreated with just the uniform they were wearing and their rifle. My take is that as usual the nonsense that is plaguing the Nigerian nation is still the same thing affecting the military. Until they get serious about this thing then this issue will be with us. Fighting an insurgency in your backyard with 90% local support should be a walk in the park. But as usual in Nigeria 10 plus years we are still where we are:Fathers, brothers and sons are being killed and its like nothing is happening. Na wa Nigeria I hail thee. Mtcheeew.
iblawi:
Brother, you heard just like we all hear different things online. The truth of the matter is that we all believe when a military base is overrun weapons most be left behind.

What ever they left was nothing compared to what boko haram brought in. So its not really a big plus.

Like you are being robbed with guns and you are think the knife in your pocket will add to the robber's capability.

If those troops had the large cache of arms you claim they left, they wouldn't have retreated without a good fight.

The military at Gudumbali knew that boko haram were coming as they received the intelligence report. They were prepared but only them knew what happened. The retreating army were directed by the NAF plane flying above on the safe path to follow. Na wa.

You've said your own. So please stop meddling into the affairs of the patriotic ones. I could have decided to use my Michigan degree to work in a company but I'm here serving my fatherland.

It's all about passion and interest. All these countries have their short comings to. Our nation maybe a shithole to you but we are proud of it. Not living in Nigeria doesn't mean you're doing better than those of us here. Some of us have reasons to be here and not everyone is here in the military because we're broke. Alot of military guys have enjoyed the best of these foreign nations than you. We have several guys in the Nigerian military who hold dual citizenship and are ready to fight for the country.

The military isn't about patriotism alone. Passion keeps us alive.

Sire, please we understand the fact that you're not patriotic as you've mentioned so kindly leave this military issues for us. You can open a thread on Ikorodu military capabilities.
If he likes let him be Donald Trumps father and hold several European citizenship it doesn't stop the fact that you are a Nigerian. Delude yourself with joy if you will and please enjoy the delusion as much as you can.

I've noticed how on this thread it's always about a back and forth thing between some groups people. Every group always trying to prove they are better. @Henry240 why don't you try to make your posts and ignore these people. They understand what you are saying but at the same time goad you into trying to answer some silly questions. Dude you have nothing to prove to anyone. Whatever pictures or stories posted here doesn't alter anything in reality. If I should post that my country has the best army in the world and you go ahead to question that, you won't get an answer from me. Why? Because I've noticed that it's really not a serious forum, it doesn't alter realities. Best armies on paper doesn't mean best in the field ; Libya vs Chad, USA vs Vietnam, Soviet Union vs Afghanistan, France vs Vietnam.

Doesn't change the fact it's cheaper to have fantasies as in your personal opinion. However personal opinions does not equate factual realities. Apparently lionel schooled you.

Therefore, maybe you check the size and ferocity of combat engagements, military diplomacy and interventions both militaries had the last 5 years to date and tell us..?
"apparently lionel schooled you", I'm not ready to join your fights please. Does it matter if we continue to argue here whose military is better? We are better than them, they are better than us, so what? Does any rhetorics here affect any facts? I doubt if there's even any military policy maker reading our comments here. Mtcheeew.

I think I will want to agree with abiodulasa. His argument is about the drop off of the dapchi girls and the support of the locals at that particular point in time.
I take one of his points to stress out again;some weeks back BHT came to kidnap with everybody scampering for safety and you think those same people will welcome them at their return? My explanation to the video of 2014 is that BHT have conquered that territory, most of the people have no option but to come out and hail BHT, they could even have been forced to do so. This doesn't mean there are no locals sympathetic to BHT.
abiodunalasa:
This video cant be true...
The girls were dropped off around 3am. Well, thats what the government said. And it is plausible. Given that the news broke out today as early as 7am.

Who release this video ? Is it the media or BHT ?
Because the govt was so clinical about the OPs. No media house was granted entry to area even hours after BHT dropped off the girls and left.

Anyway, in stories like this, there are always 3 sides. The government side, the Terrorists side and the real side of the story.

Your deployment to the north east theatre was so sudden. I thought this things are usually done in phases. Updated training, deployment to the theatre,
then gradual introduction of units to to FOB or combat fronts. Na wa o.

As per breaking the news it depends, As for me I told my twin sister during my first deployment to the Delta but the second one to the North East was immediate. I went to work normally on Wednesday morning, found my self rolling into Borno on Thursday and by Saturday BH were in my gun sight. There was no time to inform anyone.
