The rot in the Nigerian system has caught up with the military. It started a long time ago. Some people talk about the ECOMOG days as one of the glorious times of the Nigerian military but have failed to understand that Nigeria lost a lot of men in that war. News abound of corruption in the army hierarchy with even one of the top guys buying motorcycle helmets as bullet proof helmets for the military in ECOMOG. I ve made it known in times past that most of the guys enlisting in the military are doing it for the money. When you get to see military men building houses worth more than 500 million naira you get to wonder if they are allocated oil Wells when they get to top positions of chiefs. So many things happening that I cannot write here. My pain is that for no worthwhile reason some people will never see their fathers, husbands, brothers, nephews. And Nigerians don't seem to care. |

You see why I said Nigeria is in big trouble. I'm sure this argument is not out of patriotism but the fact that it's based on ethnic/religious line. Abeg make una carry una argument go another new thread. When it's time to vote you guys should get your pvc and responsibly join the queau, stop disturbing us here. Come 2019 Atiku or Buhari, we are in this shit hole together. And if the shit hits the fan the elite on both divide will hop on their planes and leave us to slug it out, and when things settle down they come back to continue ruling. It happened after the civil war. It's very hard to see a patriotic Nigerian. |

But one thing I can assure everyone here is the resilience of the Nigerian spirit and it's army. Battling another countries army is going to be a different ball game different from this BH thing. |

kenpaul0: Let us not talk about the NASS...Let us focus on where the President has total control...The executive and everyone under him....Everything rises and falls on Leadership...that is what we must focus on....Presidents have stepped down for failures attributed to them....Here we explain everything..If there are issues with governance it is the job of the President to proffer solutions and not blame someone else....This trickles down to the Military and Police...If the C in C can explain away failures what do you expect from those under him You think the NASS can be absolved of all these, even the Judiciary too? These people are also leaders in their own right. If the NASS are not preoccupied with their own selfish interests you think the executive will derelict on their own duties, for gods sakes they are supposed to check on the other arms of govt. The NASS is supposed to be the strongest arm of govt because they can impeach the president. I agree that the blame is completely on the president because he is the leader that everyone sees but does that absolve everyone of us. I will say it in black and white that the problem of Nigeria is Nigerians themselves. We want to make noise because a high profile person was killed, forgetting that every life matters even his driver's. Why don't we make noise for every Nigerian that has been killed on Nigerian roads. Why didn't we make noise for the aguam adara that was kidnapped and killed in kaduna state. Why didn't we make noise for a certain serving colonel and driver that were killed on kad/abuja road, but because this one serves some political interest it's okay to use it. APC used the same tactics too but does that make it right? Until we emancipate ourselves from political/religious/ethnic bigotry then we continue as we are. |

kenpaul0: Who should we blame....The market women? The Lazy Youths? U clearly dont know what leadership is all about It's absolutely okay to blame the president and that's your unequivocal right but should the blame wholly be on him? We have a system that has been completely dysfunctional and is still dysfunctional. It's easy to blame the president on Badeh's death but nobody is talking about the dead driver. You see why I did say the system is dysfunctional. Maybe Nigeria will get better if we begin to have an introspection. Some people might think that Nigeria has a leadership deficit, the problem is the people, it's very hard for us to see beyond our noses without bringing inanities into matters, that's why it's easy for soldiers to kill unarmed shitte and we think its okay, that's why politicians bereft of ideologies easily cross carpet to other political parties as easy as they change their girlfriends and Nigerians think it's okay. That's why a sitting governor will be recorded collecting bribe and nothing will happen. That's why the senate can go on recess for no good reason without discussing the budget. That's why a senator can pose with his expensive cars in this country acclaimed to be the poverty capital of the world. That's why the elites and politicians can look at us in the face and tell us Bleep you lot because they know we are filled with inanities and their actions bears no consequence. |

We are in serious trouble in this country. The supposedly educated folks make skewed comments based on ethnic, religious and political line and make it seem as if it's the truth. What is happening in this country has been a long time coming and the government of the day is bereft of ideas on how to checkmate the security challenges. Previous governments led us to this but the current govt is also treading the same path. Certain things we cannot say here. |

Sometimes I wonder how we take everything to be politics. Things like this have been a long time coming. This country is awash with guns, likely because of the conflict in the north east and the militancy in the south south. It did happen after the civil war. This man might have been assinated, the question is by who? Maybe aggrieved family members of slain military men in the north east that feel he should be in jail but moving freely. It could also be a robbery attempt, it's been happening everywhere, this one is just a high profile person. |

Stephandeswardt: I repeat rpg7, cant kill a T72........but there are other RPG variants like rpg 29 that will destroy a T72....am surprise BHT didnt drive away the armoured vehicles, i guess they set them on fire, else if the vehicles were destroyed during active combat, it means Bht has gotten better anti tank weapons I'm not into you guys argument. I Was replying kabe1 to stop the insult or are you kabe1? |

kabe1: Would you please just shut up you ignorant buffoon.
Tank armour without add-on protection easily defeats RPG-7s. They are essentially the only widely used barrel fielded vehicles that can defeat RPGs.
Those Tanks were clearly set on fire deliberately.
You have no source, just shut your trap. Haba! Oga calm down na,it's a brand new day and there's no need for this. |

Stephandeswardt: Why is our T72 getting blown up by rpg 7? Does BHT have new weapon systems? I saw a T72, that cocked off, the turret blown off......rpg7 isnt meant to defeat a T72. Maybe the T 72's were just sitting there and they decided to set it on fire with some tank shells inside. |
Foreign Affairs › Re: Battle Field Discussion (picture/video) Of African Military . by Geronimoe: 1:29pm On Nov 24, 2018 |
Stephandeswardt: I keep hearing they took 40 barrels, they took 40 barrels....i hope it isnt mrls? With the amount of armour we have lost to BHT , or destroyed or BHT destroyed and the amount of atry pieces also.....i wonder just how strong our army is now. If it is true that they took mrls, burnt mraps, vickers and t72's then it means one of these two :they couldn't drive the mbt's or the tanks were broken down. If the tanks were not working then what the soldier in the video was saying is true, no equipment. |

BlackBaron: They need to gut the whole training manual or whatever it is for a more concise and coherent training. The insurgency is 10 years old! Shocking they're still vulnerable to hit and run attacks!! The dynamics of the battle may have had nothing to do with indiscipline afterall but for an apparent lack of protocol ala Base defence, communication and regrouping. Away from the obligatory obstacle and marksmanship training for infantry at Kaduna, what about organisation, hierarchy of command when things go awry and night time training. The depot's videos on training on YouTube are embarrassing, its more of corporal punishment than noteworthy training that can be the difference on a battlefield.
As for The Base, it was a stationary target and already the enemies could easily have employed some advantages to flank, overwhelm and choke off escape routes.
As for the current crops of generals, it may be they're also ill suited in their thinking if we're looking at the level of terrible training inherent in 80s, 90s and early 2000. Basically, garbage in, garbage out. Oga I have said this earlier. I've visited depot on countless occasions just to go see instructors that are friends. I've seen training manuals from Jaji when some of these friends visited me, they were reading for exams. This was like before the insurgency became full blown, guy even at that, what I saw was something that looked like from the 60's. I asked and the answer was like;na so we see am. |

Henry240: PRESS RELEASE ON THE ATTACK ON 157 TASK FORCE BATTALION DEFENSIVE LOCATION AT METELE IN GUZAMALA LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA OF BORNO STATE
1. The attention of the NA has been drawn to several social media, print, electronic and online publications about the recent attack on 157 Task Force Battalion at Metele. Whilst it is true that there was an attack on the location on 18 November 2018, it has however, become necessary to correct several misinformation being circulated with regards to this unfortunate event.
2. It is important for the public to note that the NA has laid down procedures for reporting incidents that involve its personnel who fall casualty in action. Out of respect for the families of our gallant troops, the NOKs are first notified before any form of public information so as to avoid exacerbating the grief family members would bear, were they to discover such from unofficial sources.
3. Furthermore, it suffices to observe that several social media, print and online publications have been brandishing false casualty figures as well as circulating various footages of old and inaccurate BHT propaganda videos and alluding same to be the attack on 157 Task Force Battalion. Whilst it is understandable how such misinformation can spread in this era of social media frenzy, the spurious circulation of some of these videos only contribute to further propagate the propaganda intent of the terrorists; to misinform the populace and portray themselves as what they are not. So far, the situation is that the location is under control as reinforcing units have been able to repel the terrorists and stabilize the situation.
4. The NA sincerely, wishes to thank the various arms of government, MDAs and sister security agencies that have stood with her in these trying times; by commiserating with the families of the fallen heroes who have paid the supreme price for the defence of our dearly beloved country. The necessary support being given the NA by the Federal Government and the goodwill of the Nigerian populace will undoubtedly continue to spur the NA towards the ultimate defeat of the highly degraded BHTs.
5. This is for your information please. You are kindly requested to disseminate same through your various media channels. Thank you. What's this? |

This kind of situations will continue until you get people at the army HQ that are serious. The problem didn't start now but from the 1980's when the military was highly politicised. At that time people going into the military they believe that they will end up as ADC's or governors or attachés. That's why you see the children of big shots there (Ajebo no dey prepared for wetin him dey face now). This 80's intake are the Co's and the officer cadre now. They really don't know their right from left except to dey follow big yansh and drink beer. Training at the Nigerian Depot is nothing to talk about. They teach you how to roll in the mud, "plant your head", march and salute and maybe take you into the Bush once to shoot AK47. After graduation you are sent to your unit, that's all, until when called upon again to shoot at unarmed citizens or to quell an ethno/religious crisis. The army is the worst hit, the problem involves both equipment and training. My anger is that these are peoples fathers, uncle's, brothers, nephews and nothing is being done? I could recall in the US when families hollared the government that their people were being sent to Iraq with humvees that don't have armor and that their body armor were not of high quality. Here na to siddon look. |

We need a major overhaul of these COs and better support and morale boosting incentives for our fighting troops "We need a major overhaul of these COs...".
