IyfeNamikaze: To read more about Goldie you're going to have to do a lot of work and digging. His lack of Fame is of his own doing. Perhaps no other man in Nigeria's history has put so much effort into his life's work, only to invest even greater effort to ensure that what he did would not be remembered. In a journal by Major Leonard Darwin ( journal of the Royal African society) Goldie was quoted to say this "I never want to be spoken of --- the less you say about me the happier I shall be" , and he forbade his children from writing his autobiography nor assist anyone in writing anything about him. He burned Every documents that relates to him and Nigeria, so all that's known of his dealings, treaties and atrocities in Nigeria can only be glimpsed from Journals and memoirs that others wrote about him like that one I mentioned above, you can also find a memoir by Dorothy Wellesley title Sir George Goldie, founding father of Nigeria. Vandeleur : campaigning on the Upper Nile and Niger, Mockler-Ferryman : British Nigeria, A.H.M. Kirk-Greene ; expansion on the Benue 1830-1900: journal of the Historical society of Nigeria volume 1. In fact there are a lot of journals and memoirs that I have gathered and researched on concerning Goldie and the history of Nigeria as a whole but there was a book I came across sometime, a book that I IMO should be a must read by every Nigerian who desires to know Origin of this country, how it all started. The title of the book is " What Britain did to Nigeria " by Max Siollun. Many Nigerians have a rose tinted memory of colonialism, this nostalgic feeling about that British colonial time that is so bizarre given the extreme cruelty and violence that the British used in Nigeria. The British massacred the natives, wiped out villages in their furtherance of it's colonial project. Nigerian Historians should hide their heads in shame! At the bold: partly true, but you should also blame Nigerian elites especially those from certain ethnic groups who fought hard not to allow History - as it was/is - to be taught to Nigerians. As it is, any Nigerian historian who narrates a period about Nigeria would be analysed not by the narration, but by his ethnic group. So, in a way, it is better for foreigners to tell our story, which on its own isn't good. Foreigners should not narrate our stories, but as it is, it is what it is. Also, I agree that the British were terrible and the only good thing bequeathed to us is the English language. Most young Nigerians do not know their history, which is largely no fault of theirs. Even me sef, it is of recent and largely because of certain events and I must say, a big part of it is because of my ethnicity. Others would not be interested because the current arrangements favour theirs. Most importantly, I am naturally a curious person who wants to know why things happen the way they are, which is backed by facts. However, many Nigerians are not that curious and are adverse to fact-based sources. This was my first time coming across General Taubman. Many Nigerians of age only know Lord Lugard. I dare say even the older generation sef except elite Nigerians. You see that colonial era national anthem that that idiot president just brought back? I will never sing it even if my life depends on it. You know, I was surprised why he changed the anthem without public discourse. I found it so surprising, especially in an era of anti-colonialism and the rise of black culture/history on social media. So, the most populous black country reviving its colonial anthem as its current anthem is an anathema. This country is not working because it was never designed to work, that amalgamation is a great injustice on humanity and the people who did it never cared about how it would affect the natives ( Nigerians) they only cared about balancing their financial books and the consequence of that is what we're facing now. Yes. From the reviews and narration of the pre-independence/pre-amalgamation books, it shows one thing - Nigeria was created for the benefits of the UK. It was not made to work for the natives. Lugard actively made sure that there were no good schools in the Northern part, only Islamic and inadequate vocational schools were allowed at a time when the south West and East were advancing in education, This imbalance of educational advancement is what brought quota system into Nigeria. Northern leaders requested the retreat of Western education promoted by Christian missionaries because they feared their influence would be greatly affected. Since the leaders could control the population for their benefit and in return for the benefit of the British, Lugard did what he did. Thanks for the other journal papers. I downloaded both. As for the book by Max Siollun, I know about it. |

IyfeNamikaze: not just Lugard, infact Lugard acted upon a script that have been written years before 1914. George Taubman Goldie, he's the owner of the Royal Niger Trading Company ( if you know what the atrocious things that company did in Nigeria you will shudder) , he's IMO the real founding father of Nigeria, he's the one who actually gave it the name "Nigeria" and he wrote down the template on how to conquer the North, create two protectorates(North and south) and to merge the two together later in the future. Yes God punish Lugard well well but this Goldie fellow should rot in hell! Just read a snippet of the man, na true you talk. I would read more about him. |

My pop is Oct and I’m seeing all these GTs flying around this days, but most of them stated that nysc completion is a must. Apply. The recruitment process will last more than six months. Standard recruitment processes run for at least six months in most countries. When I was in the job hunting market in Nigeria, the PwC process was about eight months. The problem is when you are asked to upload your NYSC certificate. I don't have a solution to that problem. But apply so you know how the process is and you familiarise yourself. Prepare hard for the aptitude tests o. That is the major hurdle in job hunting. |

uchman: Hello guys, Is there any school in Japan that would accept someone with a low Bachelor’s grade for Masters? Yes. Do your search. Such schools exist outside the Kanto and Kansai regions. If you have plenty money, enrol in a private university. If your money is not plenty, get into a national university. I really love Japan and I wish to live there. I am presently living in China, I also have a registered LTD company here in China and I’m sure that whenever I apply for a tourist visa from China here, it will be granted but I don’t know if there will be a way to convert tourist visa to a resident visa in Japan? No. I don't know why our people think it is possible to convert a tourist visa to a resident visa while in the country. For Japan, a resident visa is dependent on having the COE - Certificate of Eligibility. Without it, you cannot have a resident card. Without a residence card, LIFE WOULD BE MISERABLE. I am not mincing words. The residence card is needed for everything as a foreigner residing in the country. EVERYTHING. Since you have a registered company in China, why not look for business partners in Japan? Also, if you really want to live here as you already have your business, I would recommend the Business Manager Visa. It costs 5 million yen. Or you enrol in a Japanese language school in China, learn the language up to at least N2 then apply to a Japanese language school in Japan. The school will issue you a student visa. This is because, from previous interactions, you are above 30. No Japanese language school will admit a 30-year-old student who resides outside the country. The next issue is: after graduating from the language school, you either find a job which sponsors your visa or you start a company to sponsor your visa (back to the Business Manager Visa). My recommendation? Apply for the Business Manager Visa from China if you really want to LIVE here. P.S. I already replied your message. Why re-send the PM? |

Sladem05: Richest Blacks Globally? On average yes, but that’s just cause they are in America. The richest blacks are in Africa not the US.
Blacks in America come last for everything whether that is education, income, health outcomes etc. Obviously, the wealthiest blacks (that is, individuals) would be in where there is a greater percentage of them. So, mathematically, it is appropriate. However, as a group, the wealthiest set of black people are African Americans. If it is because they are in the US, why are those in France not as wealthy as they are or more than them? Isn't France a top 10 global economy? As for your second statement, look at the mirror. The stats for those indices are way worse for black Africans in Africa than African Americans. |

You bring a black man in a white man's country, just know say your one simple honest mistake is equivalent to a white man's 100 mistakes you will be judged differently. Abroad no be by hard work dem dey take survive here na wisdom ND since. In Chicago Illinois alone I know this for sure because I have been there. We have many africans who just came into the country not up to 3 years and they are already in jail serving long term because of crime and fraud in the name of I must blow. No be their fault na the movies dem dey watch for Nigeria about yanki and when they came here, they found out the other way. I have a friend I will call him ola just for this sake. Ola dey prison serving 7 years for Internet fraud aka aza man. After his arrest he called his mom from prison telling her that he now works offshore for an oil company and they don't use phone there s not always bright at the other end of the tunnel abeg wise up. Before you relocate try improve on a good marketable skill or skills make u no go dey left behind. Well, in life, except for exceptions - which is why they are exceptions - there is a process to succeed. Some people want to circumvent the rules in life regarding success, but that is not how things work, especially in the developed world. As for your healthcare costs, that is pretty high. But then, salaries are higher in the US than anywhere else in the world. Are you a Green Card holder at minimum or citizen? |

Yes, I repeat you get treated in the hospital free if you don't have money to pay. You must pay if you have the money after you have been treated. it is not Naija where you can lied and hide your money.
It is not true that only children of the rich that goes to university in America. If you are poor, you will get financial Aid and yes education is very expensive. Even in Nigeria quality education is very expensive. American do go to school. If you go to any university classroom, no matter the number of immigrants in the class, more than 50% will still be Americans in majority of cases. Of course there are significant number of the population that did not have university education just like any other countries in the world.
As for prison, America is not Nigeria, they don't settle case at the police stations. If you commit crime, you will go to jail. No excuses. The rest of OP's post sounds like good advice, but the bold is where he lied. As you stated, at least half of the students in any class are American citizens. Whether Chinese or black or white, they are bonafide American citizens. The issue with student loans is applicants, nay students, borrowing money to study courses which are not lucrative or take a long time to be monetised yet are not lucrative. Why should people study History with student loans? Journalism with student loans? America is a place of opportunities, but interested parties need to conduct deep research into their educational aspirations and career paths. I came across one career path which does not need too much education. Just have a STEM bachelor's degree as an American and MSc minimum as an immigrant, write the national and state licencing exams and viola! Big firms would be rushing you because there is a dearth of workers in the field. Simple research o. As native speakers of the English language, acing such exams should not be hard compared to Chinese or Korean immigrants. |

Gerrard59: From JarusHub, this is as authoritative as it gets.
Excellent emolument but they recruit very few at entry level. For instance, Seplat recruited less than 40 GT staff during her last recruitment process. Guess how many applied? c.40, 000! ***Scratches head for the percentage*** 0.001% Lest I forget, they banned juju from the aptitude test hall.

The last ExxonMobil GT program that was concluded last year, the total pay on the offer letter was around 36 million gross for MSc and around 33 million gross for ordinary BSc and the monthly pay is around 1.6 million net. Upfront is paid twice a year.
The figure I gave above is not based on hearsay, this is something my eyes confirmed myself from the appointment letter that was dished out.
A lot of people are shallow minded, when they don't know something and someone that knows tells them, they will be so quick to call someone a bluff.
The most annoying thing is that they don't know a single soul working in such company that they can ask, and since the money is so huge compared to what they can ever imagine, they will believe people are lying.
Even indigenous companies like SEPLAT pays GT a sum of 9 million naira gross, now what is your mind telling you and IOC will pay?
Sometimes before you discredit anyone, please try and do research before arguing blindly and if you can't find any info, please hold your peace and stop showing your ignorance and embarrassing yourself.
Just pray you get there.. If you like come and counter my figures above, it is normal here. |

pansophist: My mind have suggested the above to me before, so that is a possibility. Also, some precedents prove the above to be true. During the colonial period, most of the fighting armies of colonial empires are soldiers from their colonies.
Take China, with its 1.4B people, how can anyone dream of fighting them? so given western numerical inferiority, coupled with a dwindling birthrate, immigrants fills in the gap
I also see the migrants as an internally destabilizing force. Migrants vote in a certain way, and external forces can use them to manipulate internal policies and pressure the government. Like the recent French and Irish mass protests that led to billions of dollars of damages.
n for example is an internal destabilizing force in Nigeria to pressure the government. It is in the interest of external parties to have it going on, since its. only a matter of activation. The bold was a topic of discussion a few weeks ago on Reddit/geopolitics. The OP asked how would Europe cope if it had a war with first-generation migrants and second generation migrants who still have ties with their homelands. Do we expect a Moroccan to die for Europe's cause? His other thought was should there be a war, most recent immigrants would flee immediately as they migrated strictly for economic purposes, not patriotic reasons. Well, as I wrote in our thread, the migration movement in the West, especially Europe and increasingly Canada, would affect public affairs. |
