Perceived access or closeness to people with illegal money, and maybe it is a southern thing because we are southerners. Or do northerners share similar views about money?

You can see such in Lagos and other cities in the south. But is it rampant across Northern Nigeria as well?
CrimeRe: Suspected Yahoo Boy Jumps From 7th Floor & Dies During EFCC Raid by Gerrard59(m): 3:05pm On Nov 09, 2025
Antoeni:
This statement from EFCC is exactly why Nigerians don’t take our institutions seriously. Every time young people are harassed, profiled, or brutalized, the story is always the same: “We were just doing our job.” You storm residential areas like armed invaders, break into houses at 2am, terrorize everyone in sight and then when someone panics and tries to flee, you turn around and blame him for “suicidal action.” Let’s be honest, people don’t jump off buildings unless they’re afraid for their lives.

EFCC has built a culture where every youth with a laptop or a car is automatically labeled a criminal. Instead of going after the politicians who have stolen billions from Nigeria since 1960, they prefer to stage dramatic raids in estates because it’s easier and it makes for Instagram content. You cannot keep criminalizing young success in a collapsing economy and then act surprised when your presence causes fear.
The culture is terrible as they try to mean it is a sin to be financially comfortable while living in the country. And it is not just young people, there are cases where even married men in their mid-30s are apprehended after a midnight raid.

How does the EFFC differentiate a yahoo boy from a non-yahoo boy and do they have an arrest warrant for this break-ins that they perform?

The issue with most of our men is how they lampoon women like the one in the photo, then go ahead to spend MORE on these women as side chics, whereas they should have married that kind of woman. Other times, it is just these men expressing their insecurities. Because if you know you are not interested in such a woman, then why bother?

I followed the story on Facebook, and the lady in question lampooned the man, and truthfully, she is better off than him in all ramifications.

Check it. The Igbos hold their culture at high esteem and especially in the area of marriage, same thing with most SS states. You can hardly see an Igbo woman leave her marriage no matter what. Hausa is even worse in that regards, their culture and religion have supremacy over any external influence.
To be fair, though, when societies severely restrict women's economic freedom and personal safety, they don't progress in the long term. So when praising other ethnic groups for their cultural rules on their women vis-a-vis your ethnic group, think about it deeply.

But u see the Yoruba people , bcs of that Lagos influence u just mentioned, the divorce sunami is spreading fast to other Yoruba states u just mentioned. Any small challenge in marriage just like the white, they are off. Go to Europe and see most of the Nigeria marriages collapsing, they are mostly yorubas. They will even send their husband they left Nigeria together to prison.
Maybe mostly in the UK, where the majority of Nigerians are of the Yoruba ethnic group. Another thing is: when humans, whether men or women, get economic freedom and empowerment, they get independent, assertive and opinionated. However, when these freedoms and empowerment aren't allowed, the society overall does not progress. So, it is give and take, and there is a reason Yorubas prosper.

Most other culture especially the Igbos and SS believe that if a woman cheat, the husband will die or the wife will develop some strange illness or all her children will die.
The thing with this cultural belief is that those who practice it deeply don't progress. That is just the truth. BTW, don't the Yorubas have Magun? Do families who practice Magun progress faster than those who don't? The thing about cheating is multifaceted because polygamy (including taking other men's wives) thrives in Yoruba land. So, how would polygamy thrive if cheating is spiritually penalised?

As for Igbos, such practices have greatly reduced because of the strong Christianity presence.

This believe is still very much influential among the Igbos and those other minority ethnicities but the Yorubas don’t believe all that, that’s why they move from one husband house to another easily and can cheat without fear or consequences.
I understand your angle - how to tackle the easy divorce situation and having children with different men. It is something I ponder on because while I am not in support of the cultural or diabolical means to deter such behaviours, I also concede that when women get economic freedom and independence, who many years ago did not enjoy these rights, there is an increase in divorce and cheating rates by women.

It is to find a way to ensure single parenting, especially single motherhood, reduces even while women are economically empowered. To an extent, East Asian societies have done well in this aspect. The women have economic freedom, yet the rate of single motherhood is very low. The divorce rates are also very low.

Tell that to Deborah Samuel Yakubu and the hundreds of Christians that have either be maimed or locked up. Whether you are a Christian or not is not the bone of contention.

How come you did not counter the aspect of releasing imprisoned Christians and stop the persecution of Christians?

How do we put up with a situation as we have in Nigeria? What manner of hypnotizing has the Fulani infected our country with to the point that no one can lift a finger against them?
I have seen first hand what this people do, I'm my place in Imo, they kidnap at will close to the aArmy barracks, the Army will pose a blind eye, but when you retaliate to defend yourself the same Army will come and burn houses in your village, now what do we call that?.
How do we explain that the DSS came to a village in Kwara disarm all the youths and days latter the Fulanis came and slaughtered the villagers..The same story everywhere, so are you expecting people to keep quiet or remain patriotic in such circumstances.

Had it been the government has been doing their part in protecting the citizens no one will ask the US to come in, the point is very clear that the government are not ready to protect us and we will not turn down help from other quarters just as simple as that.

If the Fulanis truly love this country they will not allow such impunity to feaster cos injustice can never make citizens loyal to their country..that's a fact.

I agree with the statistic? very accurate. SW is copying western culture, that's why there is high rate of divorce. The region is losing family values to western culture. Western culture has more influence on SW than any other region. It is better to marry an hausa lady than a SW lady. The hausa lady will never contemplate leaving no matter what but a yoruba girl at slight inconvenience will pick race. I had dated an hausa lady before, so I know what I'm talking about but I missed that opportunity and I regret it.
That is up for debate. Except you want to use Lagos to cover the entire region. Are people in Osun and Ekiti that westernised? Are Yoruba Muslims that westernised? What is your definition of being "westernised"?

BTW, what are these family values that are lacking in Yoruba women but exist in Hausa ladies (Christian or Muslims)?

Polygamy did not destroy our society in the past due to high infant mortality. All that talk about Islam mandating men to treat their wives and children equally is just that - talk.

The millions of almajiri in the North - are they due to western values? And as the north is now famous for divorce how are they structurally different from baby mamas?
The high number of almajiris comes across as a cultural and economic one rather than marital (someone stated the difference between Northern Muslims and Yoruba Muslims in that aspect). If polygamy is to be kept aside or not encouraged, what is your solution to a society having a high number of unmarried women (who are willing to marry)?

Do you mean that Yoruba Muslim men cannot marry Northern Muslim women? Remember, the person I quoted focused on ethnicity, while I brought the religion angle to fully understand the phenomenon.

I already agreed within me that the Yoruba men who marry Igbo women or women from the south south are Christians because they are predominantly Christians. However, I want to know if the Yoruba men who marry northern women are Christians or Muslims. Also, it would be interesting to know whether a Yoruba Muslim man will marry a northern Christian and which group, between Yoruba Muslim and Yoruba Christian men, marry out more of the Yoruba ethnic group.

Almunjid:
Lol, nice one. I can't copy this without contradicting myself. Honestly, both polygamy and the “baby mama” phenomenon are viewed as problems by many. Polygamy—an aspect of our culture that women may find difficult to accept—and baby mama culture, which is influenced by Western lifestyles, both have their drawbacks. However, if we are being truly honest, polygamy, despite its challenges, is still preferable to the baby mama trend.

In polygamous marriages, especially within Islam, a man is obligated to treat all his wives equally, providing for their food, clothing, shelter, and other needs. Anyone unable to maintain this fairness is not permitted to marry more than one wife. Through this equality in Islamic polygamy, every child receives adequate time, attention, care, and support from their father, which helps prevent the psychological harm often associated with single parenting.

In contrast, the baby mama lifestyle is fundamentally unfair to the child involved. The father tends to focus his resources, attention, and emotional support on his wife and her children, while neglecting the child from another relationship. Sending money (child support) cannot substitute for active parenting. Visiting occasionally is not proper upbringing. Baby mama culture benefits one party—the wife or current girlfriend—while causing hardship to the baby mama and her child. The mother is left to juggle both roles, inevitably falling short, just as the saying goes: “Jack of all trades, master of none.” One hand alone cannot accomplish what requires two.

When Islam was introduced, Arabs practiced polygamy with numerous wives—sometimes more than ten—and many children. Islam established a limit (four wives), setting clear guidelines for equal treatment and sharing of resources, which can be difficult even with just four wives. A man must divide his time and resources equally, ensuring that all wives are treated fairly, with no favoritism.

I understand you are not an advocate of polygamy, but if we are honest, in choosing the lesser evil, polygamy is a better option. It does have disadvantages, but it is not as harmful as the baby mama lifestyle, which is rapidly undermining our society. If things continue this way, women may soon be searching in vain for polygamous marriages, as the institution of marriage itself teeters on the brink of extinction—mainly due to the baby mama trend and similar Western influences. Despite being practiced for thousands of years in Africa, polygamy did not destroy our society or families as rapidly as these new lifestyles are doing.

Peace!
Sound argument.

Well done!

Personally I think toxic feminism and social media made things worse for SW women . Culturally the women are empowered . Western agenda made them seek more power thus becoming unbearable . A LOT of yoruba men are not marrying yoruba girls. I know because most of my friends are not married to yoruba women. They would rather marry igbo or northern girls because they have more cultural ideals that favour marriages . Even the igbo women and other trips love yoruba men because our culture respects women alot
Interesting. Elsewhere online, the belief is that Igbo women are more westernised (this is true, though, as Igbos adopt Western ideals more than other ethnic groups). So, it is interesting to read that Yoruba women who are exposed to conservative Christianity and Islam (which is anti-Western and not pro-feminist) are more feminised than Igbo women.

I agree with northern girls, but in your experience, are these northern girls mostly Christians or Muslims? The men in your circle who married northern women, how many are Muslims? Those who married Igbo or Ibibio women would automatically be Christians.

Yes, we are on the same page. Their silence has been too horrible and way too bad.

Nothing like giving them a timeline. This is not the first time we have had these killings. There have been such killings in Kaduna, Plateau, Benue etc. There is no excuse. Our elites have been too incompetent, no ifs or buts.

Only Nigerian to be honest can solve this problem.
The problem with Nigeria is that it is a country of many ethnic nations. That is why many are dishonest about the whole issue.

The northern elite should be ashamed of themselves for their complicity
THANK YOU A society is a reflection of the quality of its elites. That has been my observation and personal analysis of different societies. Northern elites have ALL THE POWER to stop everything. It is within their power. They blatantly refused to stop it. How people, supposedly educated, are dodging calling out Northern elites but heaping the blame on Trump and the rest of the GOP is mind-boggling.

The Christian bodies and big men "of God" should be ashamed of themselves
These ones no be am. I am surprised many are noticing them now. I did it way before David Hundeyin released his documentary on the genocide of Northern Christians. People were butchered in Benue in the most despicable and inhumane manner in Buhari's first tenure, and apart from Oyedepo, NO MEGACHURCH PASTOR in Southern Nigeria condemned the reckless murders of these Christians. I wondered why pastors in one part of the country, way too influential and affluent, would be mum when Christians in another part are slaughtered for their faith. The silence was disheartening and painful. It contributed to my less religious nature. I realised that the ogbonic criminals we've as mEn oF gOd no be am.

The affluent in Nigeria should be ashamed for themselves
See the note about Nigeria being a country of many ethnic nations. See how Ghanaian elites tackled the incursion of Fulani herdsmen into their territory? That is how elites are judged. If we say, as David Hundeyin claims, that the US-led West is behind the carnage so they invade and scuttle our economic growth, what stops our elites from tackling the issue head-on? Is it Trump who instructed the Local Government Chairman of Funtua to visit so-called bandits?

How and why we cannot take full responsibility for our actions puzzles me.

The level of killing in Nigeria is inconceivable in here in the UK. Imagine even 10 people being killed by a group in faraway Cornwall? or Warrington. There will be uproar in the country. But in Nigeria people are dying like rats
Sometimes, I think it is the diabolical ogbonic group they join that makes them so detached from ordinary people's sufferings, even when their own people are affected. No elite from Kwara is saying anything. It was the same issue I was pressing on when there was unimaginable carnage in Imo state. Why and how would the elite be so quiet when their state is destroyed? The same issue with soot in Port-harcourt. We have unintelligent elites!

And the extremist Muslims are quiet
the charlatan elite is quiet

Shame
The mistake we've here is that you expect most Nigerians to have shame. The majority of Nigerians are sham.eless. Let's forget the expensive dress, cars and parties we throw. Our people don't have an atom of shame.

Tomorrow, these are the same people who try to measure themselves to the White and East Asian man. grin

It is sad that when confronted about the scourge of foreigners killing Nigerians everywhere, the only thing the APC can say is that it isn't only Christians being killed but Muslims too. This evil and incompetent party and its president till this moment have not come out with a tangible plan on how to flush out these killers.

A competent government led by a president that is not brain dead, will by now have large formations of army units taking the forest apart and killing anyone using the forests as a base to launch attacks. It will have its airforce undertaking a very brutal bombing campaign targeting every known hideout of these terrorists... It will be seen in action with results to show. But not this government.
