ayo, it's perfect that you accept that christians are being killed in the north.
i should inform you though that i did not come to this life to count coffins.
so i do not care about the accurate number. if it is 100, 5,000, 100,000 or 1 million.
one is already too many. entire christian villages have been sacked. that happening once is already scandalous.

when y'all tell us that the terrorists kill muslims too, it does not pacify us.
the internal monologue we have is this:

so let me get this straight, you are incapable of securing the lives of northern muslims like you from roving scum, and the killers are coddled. how on earth do you expect us to entrust the safety of christians that are also being killed to you.

this is why we are okay with external intervention.
because by your own admission, you are incapable of ending the menace. and that's not the worst part of it, you are willing to condone more killings of christians and muslims alike rather than have an external intervention end the scourge.

this is ultimately the reason why our ethnoreligious cultures are like oil and water.
we see a problem, we see you accept you cannot fix it and you're flailing about for years turning into decades, we say okay it is time for the big guns to roll in.
you see the same problem, you accept you cannot fix it and you're flailing about for years turning into decades, but you still do not want external intervention. in fact, you believe anyone who is sick of the scourge and wants intervention hates you.

that's not a typo. wanting to end the killings of christians is ethnoreligious hate.

-Lord
That is my annoyance with the whole issue. The people who are against the US involvement NEVER proposed solutions to the killings of Christians and even Muslims alike. The belief that because Muslims are killed, then Christians should be mute does not make sense. As Muslims are killed, Muslims should call for government intervention.

We have had (and still have) Christian communities razed, their businesses destroyed, churches burnt to the ground, pregnant women slaughtered and their yet-to-be-born babies, Lord, YET TO BE BORN aka wetin dey belly never mature are removed and further butchered. These people have wailed tirelessly for a decade, yet the naysayers KEPT MUTE! They were silent when all this happened.

Why are they against the US intervention?

It is not just ethnic cleansing, but outright wickedness, especially from lovey-dovey folks who sit their smelly yansh in London, Lagos and elsewhere other than the epicentre pontificating nonsense and ingredients! I have conversed with Northern Christians, and their responses are so sorrowful. They just don't know what else to do.

The same people against US' intervention did not say anything when the rudimentary weapons of these Christians were seized by the Nigerian army, the same army they want the US to cooperate with. We have had, and I have read it, of the Nigerian army seizing weapons from these farmers, only for Fulani jihadists to immediately enter the community and kill everyone. Was it and is it Donald Trump who told the Nigerian army to seize the weapons of people who are to defend themselves? Why haven't these people condemned such acts?

Sure but when American military intervention in Nigeria starts they will share the same opinion with me, throughout the history American military intervention never lead to peace and American never won any war against terrorism, but America have destroyed every single country they went into.

Nigerians are getting killed by militants, both Christians and Muslims, Trump is trying to start a religious war by making it look as if only Christians are getting killed.
It is unfortunate that you people say this. So, Trump is trying to start a religious war, whereas he did not burn Deborah Samuel Yakubu to ashes?

It is important the victims and those from the affected areas know who their enemies are. It is not just the jihadists, but those who fervently defend the jihadists' views and actions. Justwise would never live in the affected areas, but he disregards their experiences.

Thankfully, Trump is the president and not anyone on this thread.

I agree with you. It is better for an 18 - 20 year old girl from a poor family to raise funds from sex work to learn a trade or skill rather than to enter a university. The exception is if she studies a math course and has the brains to obtain at least one scholarship while in school. This girl and many others in her category are more likely to deepen into the sex work lifestyle after graduation because:

- they studied meaningless courses
- they have to raise more funds to learn the trade they should have learnt when they were much younger.

Tertiary education is not running away. For someone from a poor family, skills and businesses to sustain oneself for the next ten years are more important than attending a no-name school to study a non-math course.

Let's, for once, assume the US, through its numerous agencies, is behind the endless killings. Why do northern elites support the senseless butchering of Christians throughout the region? Why have other Nigerians kept mum when people were butchered in Benue and Southern Kaduna? Iyin Aboyeji even christened such killings as "little genocides".

This is my issue with this: "they want our resources" and "we are a sovereign state". When have you condemned the onslaught of Christians across Northern Nigeria? Are the lives of ordinary farmers in Benue, Plateau, Kogi and Southern Kaduna not worth it? How many of you condemned the inhumane and despicable manner in which Deborah Yakubu Samuel was murdered? pansophist:
Your questions about my condemnation of the killings of Deborah and christians are unnecessary. Even if I condemned the killings (or didn't condemn), what difference does it makes? You are asking a rather irrelevant questions that have no bearing on anything. The crux here is not virtue signalling (if I condemn or not), but about legality and the how sovereign states interact with themselves within the framework of the UN (article 2(4) of UN charter). Respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity is a foundational principle of diplomatic relationship that all countries must abide by before they recognise each others as sovereign countries. It is this same principle that makes the US refrain from invading China after their bogus claim of Uyghur genocide, or Tibet independence. The only difference between Nigeria and China is that China is strong and Nigeria is weak. The US have drug problems, high gangsterism and gun violence that have killed more people than those dying in Ukraine annually, should Chinese government go conduct strike in the US? If the answer is NO, then why should the US conduct strike in Nigeria?

If you endorse US in their quest to conduct military actions in Nigeria, then you have opened a very dangerous precendent that will make the world less peaceful. Any tyrant can just wake up one day, create a bogus claim and use it as a pretext to invade a weaker country.

The world will effectively become a jungle where the strong oppress the weak.

I ask, is the killings a recent thing? name just one country the US has invaded that got better. Does Libya ring anything to you? What about Iraq, Afghanistan?

I mean I consider you to be geopolitical savvy, and quite shock that you are endorsing a military action from the US from an imperial hegemon with a legacy of global destruction.

If the US really want change in the most sincere form, then it would be sanctioning the Nigerian military aparatus, sanctioning all the corrupt politicians directly (like they did with Putin), share intelligence with oversight from the UN, and so much more.

A direct military actions in Nigeria is not a solution and there is no justification for that. AT ALL.

It doesn't matter if Nigeria is corrupt. There are internationally agreed methods to handle situations like this, and only when the UN agreed on an intervention that it can be legally justified, not unilaterally.
Gerrard59:
While I don't support America's militarily incursion on Nigerian soil, the truth is: Nigerian elites and their supporters caused everything by their ineptitude towards tackling the Boko Haram and Fulani terrorists attacks throughout the country, especially those targeted at Christians.

These attacks didn't just start today, but worsened under the ineffectual Fulani warlord named Buhari.
We wouldn't be here if northern elites condemned the brutal and relentless slaughtering of Christians throughout their region. I care less about Sharia, provided it is not applied to non-Muslims, but just stop the reckless butchering. It is really that simple. Nigerians from all ethnicities and religions would have supported the presidency if there had been concrete efforts in tackling the issue. Look at how South Africans backed their president. If the US wants to invade Nigeria (which none has stated), unfortunately, there is nothing anyone can do about it. However, northern elites have ALL the power to stop the killings tide. They do. That is where their power should have been applied.

Honestly, I wouldn't want the US to put troops on the ground (which I don't think they would do anyway), but why have northern elites kept mum when Christians (indigenous o) are being killed across their region? See the ineptitude towards the incursion in Kwara State? Why not condemn everything in its entirety? Why not catch and persecute those responsible? Why integrate Boko Haram members into the Nigerian army? The same army you want the US to share info with. C'mon! grin Man, how does this even sound to you? You must really trust the Nigerian army so much.

Since we know the US has sinister moves, why make it so easy for them by aiding and abetting Fulani terrorists throughout the region? Why make it easier for your foe?

We must either seize this opportunity to marshal our resources to confront this menace ourselves or an intervention is necessary.
Inaction is not an option.

Because that is their plan.
They hope to hold a few meetings with the Americans. Offer them some lucrative oil/mining contracts and rights.
Then do nothing and wait for Trump's 3 years to be over.
While tens of thousands of Christians are killed annually for the foreseeable future.

Nigeria is not worth the annual sacrifice of 5,000+ Christians.
That is my line in the sand.

You want sovereignty to be able to sentence Christians to death for standing their ground while allowing herders to go scot free after butchering farmers. What useless sovereignty!
They are coming for our resources. Is it the same resources you are using to strike deals with bandits and train "repentant" terrorists that have murdered Christians? Where was it decreed that Nigerian resources can only be used to sustain a system where a Christian girl is burned alive in broad daylight and the killers recorded themselves on video holding the match and they are walking free today.

Anyone preaching unity should take several seats.
We've had unity for the past six decades and more Christians keep dying every year.

Everyone here sees the game for what it is. If the US cares about Nigerian Christians, the right way would be to support Nigeria with intelligence, weapons and coordinate with the Nigerian government to end this threat.
Who then go ahead to share it with Fulani terrorists. There have been several episodes of Nigerian army personnel of Fulani extraction sharing info and weaponry with terrorists who raze down communities populated by Christians across northern Nigeria. Is that the people the US should cooperate with?

The right way is not to violate our sovereignty and just go throw bombs. This is what they accuse Russia for in Ukraine, and now, they want to do it elsewhere. The US can’t hide its mask anymore. The real reason for going into Nigeria (if they will ever go) is for geopolitical calculations and money. I suspect that Nigeria’s rare earth is the target, possible oil and other natural resources in the land. Christian massacre is just an excuse. There is no single country that got better after the US intervened militarily, not one, and Nigeria won’t be different. Just reading about this on social media and how lots of Nigerians welcome the move is just so sad, and showed that we actually love our chains.
Maybe these Nigerians who are against the US' intervention should have condemned the reckless slaughter of Christians. I ask: Did you condemn when Deborah Yakubu Samuel was caught, then butchered and roasted in Sokoto? How many times have you condemned the killings of Christians?

I don't get this geopolitical angle when actual people are killed. Their farmlands were razed and their houses destroyed. They try to fight back, only for the Nigerian army to seize their weapons (mostly rudimentary), and within a few minutes, Fulani terrorists go in to maim them. Is it the US army that made the Nigerian army seize weapons from farmers who try to defend themselves against terrorists?

Those who are against US's interference SHOULD have been at the forefront of the senseless murdering of Christians. They should have worked hard to stop Fulani terrorists from kidnapping people along roads in Kogi state. They should have fought terrorists who were butchering Northern Christians in Kachia, Zango Kataf and Kaura areas in Kaduna state. That is what those against the US should have done. I did it intensely from 2018 - 2021 and even severed a cordial relationship with a high-ranking professional. It would be hypocritical for me to now be against Trump's tweets.

As for rare earth minerals, yes, we have quite a lot. I saw a chart on Bloomberg, and Nigeria was the only African nation with substantial deposits of it. But why have northern politicians and elites kept mum when Christians were killed in their states? If you don't want US interference, you do everything possible to prevent it, and that means, stop aiding and abetting the butchering of Christians in your region.

Almost two years after this article was posted, the genocide continues unabated in various parts of communities inhabited by indigenous ethnic minorities who are Christians in Northern Nigeria. Prior to this article, another similar article on the extermination of Northern Nigeria's Christians was posted two years ago on the Spectator (https://www.spectator.co.uk/article/abandoned-to-their-fate). Not long ago, more than 120 students from Bethel Baptist School were kidnapped, all of whom are Christians, and less than 30 have been released. Some of the girls (max age is 17) were raped and boys tortured. Before that, students from Greenfield University and School of Forestry, both in Southern Kaduna (a Christian dominated area), were kidnapped. Some were slaughtered, others are still in captivity and some were released after parents paid ransoms close to N200M.

Today, farm lands in Christian dominated Plateau are ransacked, women raped and men killed. Indigenous Christians in Bauchi are made to live under Sharia Law while their counterparts in Gombe are made to live under a Muslim Emirate even though they are not Muslims. What about their traditional leaders? They are kidnapped and later killed ditto for their religious clerics. The pastor in Niger who was killed and the other in Abuja who was kidnapped with his children and later killed. I wager that those kids will be enslaved and brainwashed.

While these go on unhindered, Christian leaders in Southern Nigeria are mysteriously mute and go about raising tithes, building huge church edifices, nose-poking into elaborate burial events and sacking "unproductive pastors". So-called intellectuals have kept mute and parry facts when presented (as seen on this thread).

Unfortunately, due to these events, the elimination of Northern Nigeria's Christians continues.

Anyways, I think the solution is for like-minded people to follow themselves for a happy home.
That is why I am of the opinion that the side chics are winning. A side chic who means and knows business would win way more than the man's wife. I think you don’t equally understand me. I’m African, just as she is. I walked up to her as a sister from same race. By claiming American, she’s only trying to make herself superior (which I got to know is common practice here, some blacks try so hard to belong). It’s just fine if I was American or Asian, then we understand she’s trying to avoid being racially profiled.
To be fair, she did what anyone in her position would do. The American status brings forth a higher level of sophistication. African Americans are more respected/well regarded than Black Africans in countries with few Black people.

She might have been raised in America, but she’s equally African since her parents are African. So when she’s with fellow African, she has to present herself as one.
She is ethnically African, but not culturally or nationally an African. That is why she does not just see herself as a Black person, but an African American. She sees in you a Black African, not just a Black person. In fact, she is more likely to relate well with a random White American than with you.

She’s really dark, hence she’s still going to face racism here based on her skin color, could have been better if she’s light skinned.
The more reason she puts her American identity forward to lessen or counter any racial discrimination. Her American status elevates her above most Black Africans.

I prefer not to mention the region in a public space, anyways.
Fair enough. I live in East Asia, so it is a topic/area of life I have experienced and continue to research more on. The experiences of Black Africans and African Americans (ethnically or culturally) are not the same in countries with few Black people.

Well, let's be honest... It was bound to get to this.

As much as the real truth is obscured, one thing that we can't deny is the worsening state of terrorism and religious radicalisation going on in that North.

I said it early last year that if care is not taken, the entire North will implicate this country... Some of you thought or felt I was talking too much.

What Trump is saying LOUD and CLEAR to Tinubu and those ass-licking him is simple...

Put your house in order!
Over 2 years into your tenure should be enough, not to completely eradicate terrorism, but show serious statement of intent by drastically diminishing them to the point of global commendation.
Rather than spending Billions trying to win a second term or churning out statistics to support shady economic policies, prove to the world that you know what you are doing about security of lives and properties.
Thank you sir for your honesty.

At least, we still have honest people on Nairaland.

No be today o. The killings have been there since Buhari's first tenure. That man wrecked this country!

Trump rest, we know u no too reason black man like that. whatever your motive, just be careful before u start a civil war with no end here in naija.
The one u guys orchestrated in Ukraine has entered road to no end.
and he better be careful b4 southern christians start using genocide as reason to claim asylum in usa; by the time they flood yankee, nobody will tell Trump to reverse his statement.

If Trump is really worried about christian genocide, he should look into Iraq and Sudan where deliberate and calculated genocidal attacks on christian community are ongoing for over a year now.
When would you people call on Nigerian elites to stop the brutal killings in the country? I don't get it. Is it Trump that allows terrorists to showoff their victims and loots on TikTok?

Why blame him now? When terrorists were ransacking communities across Plateau, Benue, Southern Kaduna etc, you people kept quiet!

Stop complaining. Trump will do what he has said.

If the Muslims don't want to be killed, they can call on Turkey or Saudi Arabia help.

Over two million Nigerians are in IDP camps. I despise the racist Donald Trump and his supporters, but Tinubu and his APC coon have failed to protect Christians from the Fulani militants' invasion.
I appreciate the honesty. If we had more people like you, maybe it wouldn't have gotten to this level that Trump has put us into.

I've been crying and shouting on Nairaland that Northern Nigeria's Christians have been consistently killed. Interestingly, the megachurches' pastors in the south are silent.
