HOW TO DECODE A VIN NUMBER.

As you can see in the graphic below, the VIN is broken down into six parts:

Make/Model: (Digits 1-3) This breaks out the make, model and manufacturer of the vehicle.

Vehicle Features: (Digits 4-cool These digits identify the various features of the specific model.

Verifying #: (Digit 9) Using a complex mathematical formula this number determines whether or not the information has been faked.

Model Year: (Digit 10) This number or letter describes the year the Manufacturer Year for the car.

Assembly Plant: (Digit 11) This single digit identifies the assembly plant.

Sequence Of Model Production: (Digit 12-17) These digits indicate the order in which the vehicle left the assembly line.

PoliticsIbori's "smoking Gun" Against Ribadu: Pathetic, Sickening And Laughable by gestapo(op): 12:19am On Sep 30, 2009
“Patriotism is the last refuge to which a scoundrel clings” –Samuel Johnson

Sometimes you wonder if the so called Nigerian leaders ever think before they open their mouth. We learnt recently from the indicted former governor of Delta State, James Ibori that the erstwhile EFCC boss, Nuhu Ribadu approached him on a plot to unseat a certain “sick Yar’Adua” through the use of INEC! I mean INEC! The same INEC hand picked by PDP stalwart to do their bidding? Yes, indeed if it sounds incredulous, you are not dreaming, this is Ibori’s damning evidence against Ribadu.

The allegation, which is a red herring in itself, is not worth responding to, but like everything in Nigeria if you don’t you are damned. If I were Ribadu, I will simply put out a short sentence asking Ibori to simply appear in London and stop taking cover under an entrenched corrupt attorney general in Nigeria. If you have nothing to fear, face a real prosecution in London and not the contrived “make believe” currently orchestrated by your retained counsel in Federal Ministry of Justice and the “comatose” EFCC.

Here is the good thing about the allegation; it gives us a window of opportunity to the workings of Umaru Musa Yar’Adua’s illegitimate government in Aso rock. I have often wondered why Yar’Adua buys into everything Ibori sells. I know the latter funded his campaign for presidency, but that should not make him a lap dog of Ibori. Well it’s clearer now. We know nothing scares Nigerian rulers, be it Abacha, IBB or Obasanjo like a plot to unseat them. Even if the allegations are contrived by a self seeking corrupt security chief or ex-governor as it is in this case. Nigerian insecure rulers will buy into it and hound the accused to the gates of hell.

We saw that playbook with Abacha and Al-Mustapha contrived plot against Diya and others. We saw that with Obasanjo’s allegations against Atiku. All you need to finish your enemies in Nigeria is to accuse them of trying to overthrow an illegitimate and totally insecure marauder in power at Aso rock. All hell will then break loose, the insecurities of the rulers in Aso rock is so real that they will stoop at anything to fight whoever challenges them. In fact they don’t care if the nation burns, as we witnessed through Abacha or if they upended the democracy that brought them to power as Obasanjo did with Nigeria hard won democracy. They see treason in everyone and everything. They are so insecure because they know they have no legitimacy.

There is however a more substantive part of Ibori’s ranting that needed to be addressed by Ribadu: the allegations that the latter requested funds for a certain EFCC football club and communicated with Ibori and a certain “businessman” who are being investigated by his organization. Ibori asserted that he had documentary evidence and should be made to produce them. One can only hope they are not the same “forged documentary” evidence he used to absolve himself of theft conviction at Abuja High Court. Ribadu should also be allowed to defend himself. It is clearly a conflict of interest if these allegations were true. But how do we know what the truths were. Ibori destroyed his own cause when he engaged in jejune allegations. We know he (Ibori) can get away with anything in Nigeria, since he currently controls the rein of justice through his hired gun in the Federal Ministry of Justice. We know he can’t lose with Michael Aondoakaa in charge, after all the latter hold his position due largely to Ibori.

It is interesting to read Ibori include our justice system in his nefarious plot. No one sane person will accuse Nigeria judiciary of the same corruption evident with our political class particularly in PDP. We know that our judiciary can be better managed by prompt and dedicated trial track, but the system works. It has a way of “weeding out” bad eggs, something we can’t say of PDP. In fact you get rewarded with higher post if you stole your way into an elective post in Nigeria, just ask Bode George, et al. The judiciary on the other hand swiftly dealt with purveyors of bad justice. Where are the Bassey Ikpemes and Ibrahim Auta of yesterday? Long gone with their name in infamy!

What Ibori confuses is that the judiciary does not commence criminal proceedings in Nigeria. The Federal Ministry of Justice does and who is in charge of the Federal Ministry of Justice? And as we learnt recently, Michael Aondoakaa’s law firm still have retainership from corrupt ex-governors, he is currently tasked with prosecuting.

Now, if Michael Aondoakaa’s Ministry of Justice, neglected to bring all the evidence against corrupt ex-governors before the court, you can’t blame the judiciary. In fact, we learnt recently that it took pressure from online bloggers before he reluctantly agreed to give fiat to EFCC to start prosecuting corrupt ex-governors. Here is where Ibori find comfort, he knows he can win in Nigeria and may spend the rest of his life in jail if he appears in London. The allegation that his wife and concubines whom he funneled stolen money through in London are behind bars is just an “argumentum ad misericodiam”- a mere appeal to pity. If you don’t want your third wife arrest and indicted, then don’t try and use her to launder stolen money for you. Period!

He also makes a ludicrous reference to Ribadu using Britain’s “colonial” justice system to prosecute him. First of all, I don’t think Ribadu has such powers. Secondly the Metropolitan Police department is not the same as Nigeria Police Force where personality and “who you know” determines who get prosecuted. With respect to the “colonial” connection: Is it now you realize Britain is our former colonial master? Why didn’t you check that fact when you are busy transfer Delta State statutory allocation to your British bank account? The last time I checked it was not Ribadu who kept millions of dollars in these “colonial banks” in Britain.

We know that Ibori may get away with the crimes he committed against the people of Delta state for a while, but the long arm of justice will eventually catch up with him one day, and that day will be for the people.

As we say in Nigeria, “one day for the thief and another for the owner!”

The V i n decoding system shall be explained : every digit or alphabet on a v i number can be decoded, the first 11 alphabets for most particular brand and model of a vehicle should correlate because each character has a generalised code.
AutosBeware Of Car Adverts With Tampered Vin Numbers by gestapo(op): 11:26pm On Sep 29, 2009
It has come to my notice as chief sanitisation officers that some advertiser(s) who was/were accused of misinforming and misdirecting nairalanders that vehicles were sold when in actual sense were not sold have devised a new antic to perpetrate their activities in a bid to continue to mislead fellow forumites.
The new method is to advertise vehicles with tampered vin numbers claiming it is brand new and hence the vin check exemption

please note that when a vehicle manufactured in the usa has no record on autocheck or carfax, the result of such checks are always different from when the vin is incorrect and does not match the v i n decoding system.

In a desperate move for the perpetrators to get away with this new activity, one, two or three characters from the VIN are misrepresented, making it almost impossible for the vin record to be traced.

We promise to continue to expose fraudulent and misrepresentation of vehicle details which contradicts the stipulated guidelines on this forum

PoliticsI Swear, Ribadu Never Visited Nigeria by gestapo(op): 1:10am On Sep 22, 2009
It has been brought to my attention that the former EFCC chairman, Malam Nuhu Ribadu, sneaked into our dear country in his desire to pay his last respect to one and only man of all season, the late Gani Fawehinmi. Let me use this opportunity to dispel the rumour. Because it is nothing but rumour! In a simple and plain language, Ribadu never touched Nigerian soil during the period in question. Gosh, this is my first official assignment to Lagos since I assumed office some weeks ago. For those of you who do not know, Malam Ribadu is now in exile in England, where he is pursuing a course on how to destabilise our great nation. He is wanted for treason. So how can anyone possibly think a criminal of this magnitude would slip away without my knowledge as the Inspector General of Police? I found it repugnant and silly.

Please ignore the statement made by the Lagos Airport Command, Sam Anele, who was quoted in the Sunday Punch September 13 that the Police had no reason to arrest Ribadu saying, “he is not a wanted person”, and that “he is free to come into the country and go out at any time”. Obviously, he is an uninformed officer.

Ribadu is a felon and no question about the fact. The Attorney General of the Federation and Justice Minister, Honourable Chief Michael Aondoakaa, has made this clear. He knows better and has since established a case against the former EFCC chairman whom our dear government regarded as enemy. Aondoakaa, a man of fighting spirit against corruption and injustice, had just jetted out of the country to the UK to protest the invitation of two ex-governors -James Ibori (Delta) and Victor Attah (Akwa Ibom) who are being unlawfully prosecuted. I am sorry for the little digression. Of course Ribadu has denied the allegations, and has since challenged the minister to back his allegations with concrete evidence. But such response is another offence, for it is abominable in law to challenge or imply that the Attorney General is a liar. We shall charge him for a concocted lie against one of the honest men in our land.

I personally do not bear grudge against the former EFCC chairman but truth must be told. It seems he is a radical and there is no place for radicalism in the Nigeria Police. We are bunch of patriots who have accepted to serve our nation to the best of our ability. And we have never found wanting. Forget about N20 toll collection and other egunje. Every Nigerian has a way of getting theirs.

Sentiment apart, remember that Ribadu himself declared in his tribute message inside the national newspapers that it was quite unfortunate because he won't be able to commiserate with members of the late Gani Fawehinmi's family, or pay his last respect to a beautiful man he called mentor, father and friend. How come some disgruntled gentlemen of the press now insinuating otherwise! They keep saying they saw him there and here. They say he wore a white agbada. They say he went to the Chief house and from there to see his corpse. Does it mean that the security of our great nation in jeopardy? My friend, the mortuary where they say Ribadu went is a stone throw to Police College! Let me make one thing clear. Even if Ribadu had disguised as a woman, my men would have spotted and captured him. Apart from that, our SSS men are at alert and competent enough. So therefore someone like Ribadu cannot creep stealthily up to my door without being apprehended. I am sure Ribadu being a former cop will never take such foolhardy or bravado chance.

Meanwhile I have been following the antics of the press. It seems to me that some journalists are bent on destroying the good work of our able and intelligent president, Alhaji Umaru Yar"Adua. But Ins-ha Allah they will fail. We in the Police will fight, we shall protect the president in whatever form.

By suggesting that Ribadu came into the country without my knowledge means one thing: undermining the security of our great country. Let me say at this juncture that our security is tight. No cause for alarm. Ask yourself this simple question: where is the Boko Haram that tried to test our security? Those Nigerians calling themselves citizen journalists and who are based abroad are the guiltiest. But why are they carrying rumour of this magnitude. That Ribadu sneaked into the country! And home based Nigerians have since joined them calling my denial as reckless. What exactly do they want to achieve by spreading such rumour? Are they implying that my men are inept? Or are they trying to ridicule me and my force? That Ribadu visited the country without my knowledge? What kind of country is this self? I reiterate here that the former chairman of the Economic and financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Malam Nuhu Ribadu, never set his foot on our country since he left for his other country. Talk less of commiserating with the family of the late human rights activist.

Some of you may be saying this man called Ogbonna Onovo is stupid to have issued such press release, denying a visit so obvious. After all, people are insisting that they watched Ribadu on television, as he was condoling with the late legal icon in his Ikeja residence. Well, it shows how confident I am about the whole thing. It is troubling how our minds work in this country. Rumour, rumour in the east, rumour in the west, rumour up north, rumour down south,  rumour, rumour of security breach. In view of this, I challenge journalists to show the pictures of the former EFCC chairman they snapped while he was in Gani's residence. Who took his (Ribadu) photograph when he came to Nigeria? I want you to show me the photograph you snapped him when he came to Nigeria. I have yet to see the real photograph of Ribadu taken with the family of the late Chief Fawehinmi. Of course, I have seen one or two photographs being circulated on the Internet, purporting to be the real photograph. But I tell you it is not. It is fake nothing but fake. It is a digital photo. Hum, gone were the days when photographs don't tell lies.

The photo was not taken on September 2009 but much earlier, perhaps when Chief Gani was alive. Ribadu's picture was probably inserted between Gani's family member photo. Even if the former EFCC chairman did sneak into our dear country, you know who or what to blame. Don't you? Please go and unleash your anger or frustration about lack of security on the Immigration and, or SSS. The two bodies are responsible for arresting any returning run away criminal and not me, Ogbonna Onovo, the boss of the great Nigeria Police Force. Say you dey hear me? Don’t forget that I am interested in "intelligence-led policing”. For now, I won't say more than that.  grin grin grin

The fact that the transmission is Auto kinda justifies the price but because the mileage is very very low for a 2002 car,you would be better off getting its VIN and bringing it on NL for someone to run a check on it for you to make sure all is well.Even if there is no report beyond the year it was exported to Naija, the VIN check would still give you a clue to its background and help you clarify the mileage to check for consistency wink
