Good mamas.. Pls can I give my 11months old normal oats... Quaker oats for adults?... I was taking it and she showed interest, so I want to know if it's OK for her system?..

Also for mums who have used chebe powder on their babys hair, was there any side effect like sleeplessness?? Cuz I heard chebe is made with weed too... I applied it on her yesterday and she was just resisting sleep, even after loading her with food... We slept at 12am was so �..i hope it's not the chebe.

A baby can eat adult Quaker oats from 6 months or even 5, just use formula and not adult milk until he's a year old.

Good Afternoon Mummy's in the house, please my 6months plus baby is coughing and wife took her to the health centre and she did a test and the doctor on duty said she has possible traces of infection and gave a drug and the cough still has not stopped and wife just called now to say she took her to the pharmacy and the pharmacist is saying we get another drug with isn't convenient for me at the moment....

Can mother's in here please advice what to do..she is coughing and she's just 6 months and about 2weeks old....I hope to get a response soon.... Thanks in anticipation of your responses

You'll waste more money with this pharmacist route. Just go back to the health centre. Sometimes it takes a while for cough to stop even after taking antibiotics

Many use it but personally I dont, I found it too sugery and made my son stool. You can try and see if it goes well with your kid .

If you can, tell them to put white toothpaste on the papa-afflicted parts of the girl's face. It keeps the area dry and stops the water from spreading and affecting other areas. Terrible something.

Don't carry him that much. Hope you feed him well, don't time his feeding for now, just feed him whenever he shows signs of hunger. Most babies get clingy when they're hungry but would happily stay on their own when their tummy is full. Once he's full let him stay on his own, you can talk, sing to him, clap, rock his bed or find other ways of entertaining him until he gets used to staying on his own. I saw someone that did that with their baby and it worked.

What is Rotavirus all about and how important is it?

It used to be free at the PHCs in Lagos but this year they said they've stopped receiving it. So now you can give one of those women about N7500 to help you buy it and immunize your baby. It comes in two doses,
N7500 each and I think one month interval between the doses. Or you can just go to a hospital and get it but prices there may be higher.
They say it prevents those kain serious diarrhea that can kill. Pay for it if you can afford it, ignore them if you can't.

We all want to copy oyinbo not knowing that most of these things are laced with chemicals and preservatives. Some oyinbo people are switching back to organic foods and leaving behind the processed ones.

Our foods are nutritious enough. Just ask your paediatrician if unsure.

This page does not discourage pap as much as it discourages mums who want to use pap to replace breastfeeding for infants. If breastmilk is not working, the next option should be formula, if you can't afford that then maybe pap, but try to switch up the pap a bit so that baby gets additional nutrients. That's the typical advice in this thread and it is correct.

I don't understand the point of you people's argument, are you just bored and wanting to start up drama. Yeah women in the olden days fed their kids pap breakfast, lunch and dinner but have you compared mortality rates, or compared the kind of diseases that kids suffered back then to what's obtainable now?

Copy oyibo ke, I've never seen anyone on this thread recommend store bought cereals over home made food. And the few times some mamas had mistakenly mixed too much stuff in their purees, they were advised to take it one or two at a time. August Secret is a Nigerian made cereal and it was one of the most recommended cereals on this thread before the price went haywire.

If you want to correct a particular contribution made by a particular mum, then by all means do, but don't start to make it seem like this foolishness you're talking about is what this thread is all about.

You must not start with cereals. And even if you want to start with cereals, then buy one at a time. E.g, buy cereals and wait for her to finish it, and if she seemed to like it you can buy it again, and if she didn't, you can try a different one. Don't start off with three different brands at once unless you like to eat baby food

You can also just ignore cereals and start with purees and semisolids, blended bananas, Irish potato purees, boiled and blended apple. There's an nl thread for baby food, search 'baby foods thread nairaland' on Google and click on the first result.

Seeing as they can only take breast milk and formula, I don't think there's much to do except feed regularly. Let me tag liftedhands, there's the other mama i'd like to tag but her moniker is not coming to my head now.

My baby is literally glued to my boobs all day and night
I am just wondering if this is what it is supposed to be.
I have tried to express so I can get a little rest from non stop breastfeeding but I am not really getting much. I do think I am unable to get much milk due to the pump I am using cos when baby is sucking, you can hear her swallowing like she gulped a gallon of water and when she removes her mouth, you’d see milk leaking.

I am just physically exhausted and tired

I just need reassurance that this phase of non stop feeding will pass.

If you can't cope please buy formula, cuz they would suck more as they grow older. Or you buy a good electric breast pump, and start pumping religiously. Me I did EBF without breast pump and i had to breastfeed every 45mins-1 hour. Sometimes they can as far as two hours if you're not home but anything more you'd come home to a wailing baby. Long story short, if your baby has a big appetite, EBF would feel like you spent an entire 6 months doing nothing but breastfeeding, unless you get a good breast pump.

Also since you're sure she's getting enough milk, its not every time she cries that she needs to be breastfed, sometimes just let her dad or someone else carry her.

Pele, cattarh is one terrible sickness. GB had it as a newborn too. You'll have to really convince a doctor if not its vitamin C and dismissal. Next time you go, tell them you came to run test for infection cuz of 2 week cattahr. If the test comes out positive they would prescribe safe antibiotics for her age, if there's no infection, then you'll just have to continue home remedy until it abates. Please no self medication, your baby is still too young.

Does she go to creche. Keep her away for a while and the cough would disappear.

Sometimes it’ worries him coz his nose gets blocked and all. What can I use for him coz this saline spray isn’t doing anything .

Most new born breathe like their nostrils are blocked it would get better as they get older. Hope that's not what you're calling cattahr.

If he has the whole runny nose, sneezing, uncomfortable catahrr package, continue with the saline drops and do steam inhalation at night too. Strange that he caught catahrr at just one week old, biko try to keep him away from sick people, too many people and other kids especially until he's a bit older.

If it continues you'll have to go back to hospital and ask them to run tests for infection. You may have to see a pediatrician and convince them that the catahrr is really catahrr or that it's really bad, cuz if it isn't, most times they would prefer to just let the baby build his immune system.

This is so sad, i don't know what people gain from giving rubbish advice to new mums. Imagine contaminating the circumcision site daily with breastmilk, the cut would probably develop an infection, and lemme not say what could happen after that.

My mum Is suffering from glaucoma. She discovered this last two years. She was told to do surgery then but because of the fear she has concerning anything surgery she opted to receiving prescribed medications(eye drops and drugs). Recently however, she has been complaining incessantly about her sight deteriorating and I'm really scared coz I don't want my mum to go blind. So we went to d doctor who told us to do surgery before...but we were told it was too late for surgery and she just has to keep managing her sight like that...please I sincerely need some advice from the opticians in the house. Please is there a possibility of getting glaucoma surgery two years after it was diagnosed.

This thread is for new mums not doctors. I'd advice you to go a general hospital and make more enquiries. At least there would be several doctors there to consult. And you should hurry up and take practical steps now. It has gone beyond asking questions online. If other doctors all tell you it's too late for surgery then ask them the best way to manage it so it doesn't degenerate too quickly.

I was a boiling meet ni o and I said let me enter kitchen to pick something, the next thing I heard was gboah, In fact what God did for me that day, I can't tell it all cos I was supposed to back my baby, she be chewing gum, one spirit just said no and I dropped her. Had it been she was at my back, only God knows what would have happened to her. Even though the thing didn't touch her, I was confused when it happened. Instead of me to apply first aid on my body, I was busy touching her body to be sure she's fine. It was at that period that the thing enter my body well. Chai, pressure pot accident is damn bad. I just thank God it was not my face. I for don become ojuju Calabar by now.

So sorry. I didn't know pressure pots explode. That sounds dangerous. It actually waited for you to come into the kitchen for it to explode. All these contraptions. That's one reason I don't like these camp gas things too, I've heard too many stories of them exploding.

Lol, thanks for your sympathy. I scooped the top part, I can't imagine cooking anything else so I scooped enough for dinner tonight , thank God it was vegetable and not something like uha. But it was a big pot, and most of it is still gone . I'm over it now sha

Woah, thank God you're fine. I was trying to console myself by saying atleast it didn't burn me but that didn't work initially, though I see reason now. I was holding the pot to stir when the pot shifted and I felt a sudden wave of heat from the gas on my hand. I had a split second to choose between letting it scald me and flinging the pot , when I saw my work of art laying on the floor, I started feeling I chose the wrong option

So i cooked an entire pot of vegetable soup, and just as I was about to round up with the last stir, it fell face down to the ground .
I already called my husband and he was trying to tell me its not the end of the world, I need someone who understands that it is indeed the end of the world to please sympathize with me. So much wasted time, energy and it was a big pot. .

Also our gas finished so I was using the death trap called camp gas, which tried to burn my hand which is the reason I called hubby to give him a piece of mind because he was supposed to refill before going out. I'm so damn pissed
