So true,
Hope you are enjoying the superior North. funny I miss Thunder Bay.

ManLikeMace:
Hey guys, It's been a minute since I came on here. I thought about Nairaland and how I was always here when I started this travel journey in 2013. It took me eight years to eventually get my study permit, and I would say it was worth the wait. This is to encourage anybody thinking about giving up; please don't. I understand how frustrating it was to wait year after year and one rejection after the other.

If you are waiting on your study permit decision, please look for a skill to learn. When you get here, it is essential you have something you can do to earn some money on the side apart from the 20hrs a week you are allowed to work. Many students here do cash jobs to make money on the side.

Let me clear something up real quick; Canada is the land of milk and honey but trust me, you have to work like a mad man to get to that point where you'd enjoy it. School here isn't as hard as in Nigeria, but the workload is crazy. If your course is online, it is easier, but when you have to be physically present in school, it takes a toll on you. Make friends in school and meet as many people as possible; do not be an island when you get here. The difference between passing and failing a course can be friends willing to assist you with assignments and have study sessions with you.

Nigeria is hard, and Canada is way better in many ways, but that does not mean it is easy here. If you notice, many people here on Nairaland disappear after they travel, and I can tell you that it is primarily because of the new challenges you face here. Rent is monthly, so before you blink, it is time to pay the next; the semesters go by so fast that you have your next semester's tuition to pay in no time. Assignments are back to back, tests are every other week, and you still have to do your 20hr a week job plus the cash jobs.

I am not writing this to discourage anybody, I love Canada, and it's a beautiful place to live, work and build a family. I want you to understand that while you are leaving one set of problems behind, and rightfully so, this one is waiting for you here, too, lol.

Anyway, do not give up on your dream; Canada is more beautiful than you can imagine. It is so peaceful, and everything works. I pray that everybody reading this gets to experience their dream of moving here.

I don't know much about the immigration process, but if you have any questions about living in Canada, Thunder Bay, or how it feels like studying at Confederation College, please feel free to ask me here or shoot me an email.

What facts? Is it a must you comment. Are you not on holiday? Even if Canada is not a religious country, the fact still remains that all muslim faithfuls all around the world celebrate Prophet Mohammed (S.A.W.) today.

Please I need help, I have my first degree from a Nigerian Uni, masters degree from a UK uni and now I am looking at applying for a graduate certificate program in Canada, I want to know if it won't be an overkill to include my masters degree in my application. Also, I am aware of the FSW thingy for express entry and I'm also exploring that, however, I have heard that even I get into Canada through the express entry programme, getting a job wouldn't be easy and I may need to obtain a Canadian educational qualification even if its a diploma before I can easily be considered by job recruiters

P.S. Proof of funds and travel history aren't are problem for me, what are my chances of getting a student visa?.

Really if you have masters, a good ielts result, not up to 34 and at least 3years work experience ,u stand better chances of being a PR. I don’t know why you are looking for student visa. student visa route is more expensive and a longer process if ur aim is to stay back in Canada. If it’s about Canadian education, secure admission, apply through Express entry and you are good once application is approved
You pay less tuition fees plus other benefits as a Pr ,Who knows you might even secure a job with your other masters and forget about the admission.
3years stay cumulatively in canada, apply for citizenship

I have already sent the course outline Thursday last week, no response from them yet. Been checking my status and it is reading complete, ready for review. This was before I sent the course outline.
In same boat but for UG, anyway the academic advisor said course outline when submitted to admission is dispatched to department for evaluation and approval. Might take 6-8 weeks or less depends on how fast admission gets result back.
Hope you find this useful. So be calm and hopeful

North york falls under Toronto, so no show as the only discount in Toronto is for person's with disabilities.

After wetin bus use my eye see today, I am beginning to consider getting a car sef.
Pele, jumping Bus can be so frustrating especially when a 5mins trip by car takes 40 mins, or one misses ones bus ,thankfully the weather has been at peace ✌️. So pain of waiting in the cold hasn’t become excruciating.
Car na big necessity shaaa, makes hustling / movement easier

Wow! Do I need to be resident in Brampton to qualify? Also, do you mean 62.5 is the charge for a year or is it a month? I would go check out if TTC has one. Thanks so much, thats a whole lot of savings you have helped me with. I appreciate it.
62.50 monthly, not as subsidized as Alberta shaa but . Yeah, I had to show proof of residence plus other requirements. Shaa look it up.
You welcome

Hello people,good day.
.
Please is there anyone that went to the nursing line after a basic medical science degree from nigeria(currently have bsc #human anatomy)
.
Please how did you go about it? Did you get a diploma in nursing or bsc nursing?
.
Is Bsc nursing prefered in terms of jobs..
.
I will really appreciate responses to this please.
.
Thanks
Choose your choice province, then check if their university offer the after degree BScN and if they do , check the school requirements. Most schools consider last 2years CPGA also your pre- requisite courses have to be less than 10years from year the courses were offered. Also some schools like university of Lethbridge for example offer preparatory courses for the after degree.
The after degree nursing program is very competitive so different schools have different requirements for admission.
All jobs have prospects, be in health, finance, skilled trades

It looks like getting a car in the GTA is mandatory. Wouldn't it be cheaper ultimately?

Having a car can be an asset as some jobs specifically list that as one of the requirements. Also shorter commute time .

But then you spend more on insurance and gas , than one who jumps buses.

Not everyone spends that much on passes in the GTA though, most people's expense would be around $140. The thing is I live in NorthYork, which is a part of Toronto but so far work and classes takes me to Mississauga and Brampton; occasionally I go to York Region(Not the same as Toronto's North York). though Toronto, Mississauga, York Region and Brampton are all parts of the GTA, they each have their own transit agency. Toronto's TTC monthly pass cost about $147, Brampton $124, Mississauga's Miway $130, York Region's YRT $150... So rather than buy multiple bus passes or pay multiple fares while connecting trips, I just purchase the weekly GTA pass for $63, that way I get to use all these GTA transit service at no extra charge and save a lil.

I wish TTC has such discounts for low income earners or newly landed immigrants. The one wey dey pain me for GTA na car insurance cost

Missasuaga , Oakville, Brampton have subsidized bus pass to the best of my knowledge. I paid $125 for monthly pass before I found out about it(called SPLIT in Oakville)now I pay 62.50 monthly. Valid for a year . U are legible as a newly landed immigrant even though u have not filed for tax , also open to low income earners. Do check out ur city transit for the subsidized pass

not yet.. how can I register for classes when my permit is yet to be approved.

Cic and Usask are two different bodies.
U can register from your paws account, search registration of courses.
Just asking because some of the classes are closed because Capacity is filled, do Verify if you ought to while waiting for approval before u end up not being able to register all ur courses for winter term. there is a deadline to register, dropout without school fees being charged and one can even register without paying school fees .just got to know last week about course registration.
Try to read the handbook too, very helpful.
It will end in Praise

I’m sorry madam I do not agree with you. We are quick to invalidate others. If I approach you on the street all smiling and expressing cordial greetings, would you respond to me accordingly. Please first note that you don’t know me and my being a Nigerian doesn’t instantly make me familiar with you. I am still a stranger. Skin color has nothing to do with it.

However, if I was introduce to you by a common acquaintance, don’t you think it would make our introduction seamless?

Please let’s not be quick to presume that Nigerians are snobs. I have met fantastic Nigerians and some Nigerians who just want to be at peace with themselves probably we don’t share common interests. It’s human nature and has nothing to do with a specific type of people, race or country. Even the whitey, after you discuss with them today, tomorrow they see and blank their face like they don’t know you.
Don’t be so fast in dismissing this. Everyone dey talk from their experience. It’s not uncommon for blacks to quickly throwaway face on sighting another even before you have an opportunity to even smile even if na the fake grin whites give.A Nigerian is my neighbor, words can’t even express the cold treatment on my first visit as per Know Neighbor.
In all, let’s try to be more receptive. Nobody wan beg una anything oooo

Greetings to everyone. Please my Ontario people,is there anyone living in Oakville here? Pls I would like to know how convenient it is to work in Toronto and live in Oakville? I looked online and the city seems ok for raising kids, I think car insurance seems slightly lower than what you might get in Toronto and Mississauga( not certain about this info). Info online tells me that it will take about 37-40mins to get to Toronto. Biko my people, can I rely on that, then for someone
who may not get a car immediately, does it make sense settling in Oakville and working in Toronto.
Oakville is a very quiet, cool city, 96% white city though. Child friendly Yeah, car insurance is lower than suaga, Brampton but accommodation in Oakville is a lil higher. Depends on your job in Toronto, by G0 train is 50mins. A lot of people do shuttle, either park and ride or go by bus from house to station and then take train to Toronto. Costs 8-10$ though/train ride.

Hello,
Please what is the requirement to obtain waec transcript?

Read somewhere that i need year book photo album and sworn affidavit.

Please kindly clarify.

Thanks.

My friend went to WAEC to get his certificate sent to WES. I think we spent almost 25k. (30k to play safe.) The instruction to do this is at the entrance to the receptionist office at WAEC yaba. Or just speak with the receptionist. Opposite WAEC office, you need to do an affidavit(2-4K) shaa bargain. the court people are there also you need your passport photo. You have to pay 10k to the WAEC finance office and buy 2 envelopes that will be addressed to WES with your Ref no printed on top(Very impprtant). Then you need to pay I think N9 500 for courier to Canada. Once you submit this to the WAEC office. They will sort your certificate and send. If you have a copy you can bring along to help ease the search. Once WAEC does its part, UPS will pick up and you will get a message with a tracking number to know when it will arrive Canada. Then you can log on to your WES platform and check update. Note that WES will srnd a letter to WAEC to verify. Once they receive WAEC response, I believe then do the needful. You can track this. Once you hear a letter has been sent to WAEC. Pray that they respond early. All the best
