Education / NOUN Convocation: Obasanjo Bags Master Degree, 15 Get First Class Honours by Gluthatione: 9:43pm On Jan 16, 2016
Former President, Olusegun Obasanjo, on Saturday in Abuja bagged a Master’s Degree in Theology at
the fifth convocation of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN).
The Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Vincent Tenebe, said in his address at the ceremony
that Obasanjo was among other notable Nigerians in the list of the 10,653 graduands in which 15 of
them made first class honours.
Tenebe listed other outstanding graduands as the Emir of Hadejia, Jigawa State, Alhaji Adamu
Abubakar and the traditional ruler of Awgu, Enugu State, Igwe Felix Okechukwu.
Others were over 70 years Rear Admiral Orisha, (Rtd), who bagged fist class in Mathematics and a
78-year-old, Chief Femi Balogun, who bagged LL.B from the School of Law.
The vice-chancellor also listed a blind student, Mr Obinna Bede, who bagged a Bachelor of Arts
(English), degree and Udo Effiong, who had the highest cumulative point in first class grade of 4.71.
It is interesting to note that Obasanjo will be graduating with a Master’s Degree (MA-Christian
Theology) having met the requirements for the award during this convocation.
“Having been given the admission to study MA/PhD in Christian Theology, Obasanjo will continue
with his Ph.D fully.
“This is very unique considering his age and commitments; he also made a very good cumulative
grade point,’’ the VC said.
Tenebe said that NOUN had achieved its primary mandate of having study centres in all the state
capitals across the country.
According to him, the institution will commence the last aspect of its mandate, which is to establish
study centres in all the 774 local governments in the next 15 years.
He said that the total number of study centre across the country stood at 72 alongside four new
research centres.
Tenebe appealed to relevant authorities to admit graduates of NOUN into law school as was done in
other countries.
“We will not relent in our appeal to the Council for Legal Education to give NOUN Law graduates the
opportunity to attend the Law School and be called to the Bar.
“If other countries such as UK, India, South Africa, Tanzania, among others allow their Open
Universities’ Law graduates to attend Law School and are called to the Bar, Nigeria has no justifiable
reasons to hold her Open University graduates down.
“We must move forward in all these areas as a progressive country,’’ he said.
In his address, NOUN’s Chancellor, Igwe Lawrence Agubuzu, said that there were 59 open
universities in the World, adding that their graduates were treated differently from graduates of
conventional universities.
Agubuzu called on the National Youth Service Corps and the Nigerian Law School to allow NOUN
graduates to participate in their progammes.
NAN reports that Chief Obasanjo received the award by proxy as he was said to unavoidably absent.
NOUN’s 2016 convocation was held for the first time at University Village, Jabi, which was allocated
to the institution in 1983.

Religion / New Year Resolution For D Spirit Filled Chirstians by Gluthatione: 12:23pm On Dec 27, 2015
The year is ending and as human beings we must have some plans for the next 365 days for our life ,but it is disheartening most Christians do not have a blueprint for their spiritual life in the year ahead.
Take for instance last year I resolved that I'm going to read d bible all through, be more closer to God and pray at least 4hours a day this year ,though I'm not able to achieve this completely especially in the area of prayer but I'm still very close in achieving them.
Now to the Christians out there what are your plans for next year concerning your spiritual life. what are your aspirations and determinations? The purpose of this thread is to encourage and to rub minds together because as Christians we need help of others for our journey to heaven.
Now say this prayer, Lord Jesus uphold me to the very end of my Christian race.Amen
Religion / Re: Christians Engaging In Premarital Sexual Relations Before Marriage, Is It Okay? by Gluthatione: 11:02am On Dec 27, 2015
winner01:
Introduction
Common "wisdom" says that living together in a "trial marriage" is a good way to determine if couples are compatible before marriage. A companion paper, based upon scientific studies, shows that this idea is false. Many Christians seem to have bought into the secular idea that as long as one is "in love" it doesn't matter if couples live together (and engage in premarital sex). The problem is that many times "love" fails, and Christians end up moving from one relationship to another. This paper examines what the Bible says about living together before marriage, for those who claim to be Christians.

Biblical love isn't a feeling
Most people think that love is that elated, "high" feeling we get when we "fall in love." This kind of "love" is something that lasts typically less than a year. Most couples decide to live together during this period of time when their decisions are often based upon emotions and passions. According to the Bible love "rejoices with the truth... always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres... never fails". One will notice from this description that love isn't what you get from someone, it is something you give to someone. The Bible confidently says that love never fails, because as long as these things are done, love cannot fail. However, if we are interested in getting rather than giving, then selfishness always succeeds in shipwrecking a relationship.

Sexual relationships and the Bible
The doctrine of keeping sexual relationships within the bounds of marriage is so important that it is spelled out in the second chapter of the first book of the Bible (Genesis 2). The marriage covenant is spelled out in the original narrative that describes the meeting of the first man and first woman:

For this cause a man shall leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave to his wife; and they shall become one flesh. And the man and his wife were both naked and were not ashamed. (Genesis 2:24-25)

The Bible actually encourages married couples to enjoy their sexual relationships within marriage. The New Testament confirms that sexual relations within a marriage is not sinful. Paul says that those who marry have not sinned. The writer of the book of Hebrews states, "Marriage should be honored by all, and the marriage bed kept pure," indicating that sexual relations within marriage are "pure" and not sinful.

Old Testament laws about sex
The Bible has a lot of bad things to say about being a harlot. In fact, it was so frowned upon in Jewish society that, among all the laws in the Old Testament, spiritual unfaithfulness (idolatry) is compared to harlotry. These days, people tend to think of harlots as those who engage in multiple sexual relationships. However, the Old Testament indicates that engaging in even one sexual relationship before marriage (i.e., not being a virgin) makes one a harlot. Engaging in consensual sexual relations with a married person was a capital offense, and those who were found guilty (both the male and female) were executed. Consensual sexual relations between an unmarried man and unmarried woman resulted in the man being fined and required to marry the woman without the possibility of any future divorce. Essentially, there was no premarital sex, since once you were caught you were married.

New Testament laws about sex
The New Testament confirms the laws of the Old Testament. Specifically, adultery is condemned, even including mental adultery, incest, and homosexuality. Other sexual sins, including premarital sex, are condemned through a couple Greek words (the original language of the New Testament) that can refer to a number of sexual sins, depending upon context. These words are porneia and pornos, from which the English word "pornography" is derived. English Bibles will translate these words different ways, so it is important to know some of the ways in which the words are translated. For example, the New American Standard translates the words as "fornication" (e.g., premarital sexual relations) and sometimes as "immoral persons," which seems to be some kind of generic immorality, although it specifically refers to sexual immorality. Other English words used to describe premarital sex include "unchastity." The fact that these words refer to premarital sexual relations can be seen in the Pharisees answer to Jesus, where they insinuated that He was born of fornication. The severity of this kind of sin can be seen in the descriptions of what will happen to people who practice sexual immorality at the judgment.

The New Testament directly states that sexual activity is to be restricted to marriage in the book of Hebrews, where it condemns both adultery (engaging in sexual relations with a non-spouse while married) and fornication (engaging in sexual relations before marriage):

Marriage is to be held in honor among all, and the marriage bed is to be undefiled; for fornicators and adulterers God will judge. (Hebrews 13:4)

Conclusion
Premarital sexual relationships are strongly condemned in both the Old Testament and New Testament of the Bible. Therefore, Christians who engage in premarital sex are breaking God's laws and are not following Jesus Christ. Under such practices, God is not honored, and both yours and your partner's walk with Christ is hampered. In addition, one's witness for Jesus is nullified, since even non-believers know that living together before marriage is not what a Christian should do. If you are involved in this kind of relationship, you need to repent and start living according to biblical standards. It is not okay for a Christian to keep living a sinful lifestyle, including sexual intimacy before marriage.

God bless you

Family / Re: No To Getting A Car Because Am Single by Gluthatione: 8:19pm On Dec 26, 2015
Naijafirst:
It is rather unfortunate that people with limited counselling disposition are toying with this very serious matter. Dear young woman, think deeply before you decide. Do not make it a case of rebelling but that of informed decision.
Firstly, no body knows you more than those who saw you grow from nothing to something. Sometimes especially in family circles, it is the unspoken that is more important than the spoken.

Firstly, kindly explain to me why you do not have a serious relationship by now! Na today day break? Something in your life don't add up and your family members know it. I know of a lady that refused to put herself out on the shelf in her late teens and early twenties due to overzealous going to church. She confused piety with stupidity and refused to present herself as a clean body harbouring an informed mind. Those who liked her god fearing disposition disliked her lack of societal awareness while those who liked her simpleness could not stomach her inability to allow them a foot in her I am married to Jesus posture.

I know another lady that hides her life in her work. Without taking any risk on guys, she keeps running off into her work. Now at 36, she is attending church prayer sessions in the hope of God giving her his will. I have advised her to take the God bit out because God has already done his bit....him don provide better bobos all over the land. Allow them to talk to you. Allow them to toast you. Nothing wrong for there.

In a Nigeria where only a very few work in well paying organisations, there has developed a natural need to accommodate on behalf of our young men. The wise girl, steps back a little and allow young men with the required qualities among a tipper load of other unwanted qualities to have a chance. This is the main reason daughters of the wise hardly finish university before they are plucked off the shelf. Their family prepares them early on to prioritise their presentation and follow it next with modesty. My dear wetin you dey plant since when day break? The way your family dey react seem to suggest say them know you pass yourself. Wetin happen to your last bobo and when was that? Why bobos no dey toast you such that your family will not be entertaining the fear of driving them further away. They should be worried about too much crowd. I remember when I was dating my wife. At one point her father querried her to point to him, who she considered was worth his time. Thenceforth, her father (in the oil industry) became my watchman. Young men were showing up so forcefully that he started giving them my phone number. You ought to be in your toasting prime. So the fact that your family are concerned for you is what worries me. Take a deep look at your life and sort out the basic problem.....put yourself on the shelf. Car or no car.....put yourself on the shelf. This is not about becoming cheap and promiscuous.....no no no..it is about refined presentation. If you dey make young men shake like jelly, you can go off and buy Limo. Dem go toast you toast your limo but if you are a hidi hidi...then sweating it in a danfo is not the solution. No vex say I no sound like the other oooh! I had to say it as it occurs to me.....others reading might learn from my answer.
God bless u for this wonderful contribution my guy

Good day fam,

I really need your advice on something.

I am a lady in my late twenties and I work with a multinational company here in Lagos.
This is my third year on the job and I know I need a car now.

Now here's the issue; my siblings think that getting a car is a bad idea. Why? Cos am single.

My beloved brother said it would push men away from me shocked

Please does this not sound myopic? I really don't get it.

House how do you see this cos I feel down right now. sad

Hmmmm dear, the issue here is a very delicate one,I will not say u should buy it or not to buy it because I don't know how challenging your work is ,but the issue here depends on what you want in life. As a single lady in d late twenties you ought to have been married by now so buying a car may not be necessary by now, though a car or shouldn't intimidate any suitor but when you consider the economic situation of this country you will know what am saying, most men out there will only see you as married.
Let me give u an example I work in one of d most popular government hospital in my state. The HOD of my department is a woman of about 45 years of age and she has never married before she uses a jeep but no man in her life talk less of giving birth to a child,so my dear once again it depends on what u what do you want to settle down now and be happy or u want to be a career woman with little interest in marriage the choice is yours. Shalom!

My Ability to see vision started many years ago,and I came to realise it when my sister was dating a Nigerian man based in Italy but when they got engaged something happened I had a dream and in that dream it was their wedding day and instead of the normal use of cars decorated with balloons and ribbons used to convey them to church for the wedding ceremony alas what I saw startled me, her soon to be husband was taking her to church with a wheel barrow and the interesting part was that the man was pushing the wheel barrow. Which signifies abject poverty! .

I told her of the dream and she became really inquisitive to more about him, and later on discovered that he is an housemaid and squats with his brother in Italy. That was how I saved the day.

To cut the story short a guy I broke up with years ago because he wasn't ambitious, he seem lazy in all he does even the way he walk.,. He recently contacted me seeking for a second chance which I quickly turned down then had a dream the next day in that dream he was a wheel barrow pusher . To me may be God is trying to send me a warning message not to accept him into my life again.

I am confused as to what to, and I dont know how to tell him without hurting his ego.
There is no need of telling him about the dream I think it is more personal to u ,don't accept his proposal just encourage him to be more closer to God may be God can turn his situation around .
