This discussion has generated lot of arguments. I was expecting that, the polytechnic graduates will try a lot to rubbish or equal themselves to their university counterparts. It is normal, it is a psychological Twist just to boost up their own ego. The truth is nobody wakes up early in life and pray to attend polytechnics, it is just a dumping ground for university rejected folks.

Certificate doesn't determine success, it is about your determination, being diligent, dedicated, mindset and prayers. That I know but op has said the right thing, certificate goes a long way too, it is one side of the two sides of a coin and getting it right in that aspect matters. This is Nigeria, The firm I worked during IT, the University engineering graduates were paid far better than the polytechnic engineer (current reality) , I posted an article that explains the difference, a diploma is different from a degree, let that sink in, rarely will u see applications that call for HND graduates in GT. No wonder shell and other top firms equate it to Third class Bsc. My current place of work is an engineering firm, a top one in Abuja and they don't even employ any HND graduates.

The sad truth we can't shy away from, the dichotomy can't end even if the government equates the two today, firms will still go for Bsc over HND. You can't just sit down and compare the two.

Even when it comes to scholarship for undergraduates and postgraduate rarely will u see for HND or poly students, PTDF, shell, Chevron etc are for university students and graduates.


This debate will go on and on, for those trying to rubbish universities first class products, you guys should continue but try remembering you dump to polytechnic because u can't pass the entrance examinations.

To compare HND to BSc is to say the polytechnic is the same as university and that's talking with tongue in one cheek.

spare the debate and let's move on to other things. if you are already in polytechnic, face your studies, graduate with good grade, get professional courses and try to get your masters and come and join the hustle. But if u are just through with ND or just seeking admission.

I remembered when they arrested a church uncle who happens to be a transporter. They stopped him and wanted to use his bus for their useless raid they go for without buying him fuel nor compensating him for the man hours he will lose in the course of their useless raid of innocent people. So he declined and politely told them he was on his hustle and he has a target to meet in order to feed his family and remain a law abiding citizen.

They changed it for him, threatened fire and brimstone and said they want to search his vehicle. That was how they planted a bullet shell casing in the vehicle and called each other to come and see what they found. They said he was a thief and his vehicle is usually taken on robbery expedition.

They took him in to their office at ikeja and it was a serious case. He spent several months in cells like cage. I mean cells so small they couldn't sit upright in it. He narrated how people would be asked to go and pick something in the corridor and they are used as target practise by trigger happy daredevil sars officers. He recounted numbers of his fellow inmates that died in such fashion.

We prayed and prayed, got him a lawyer and forced them to take him to court after several months. The judge just threw the case out of court for lack of evidence, ordered his bus be returned (the bus was now in a bad shape cos they keep using it for raid without maintaining it since the owner is in their custody).

He had to be admitted in the hospital after his release and the daredevil sars guys just walked free. Smh

God will punish all those SARS and their generation, the poo needs to be scrapped.

my mother is very intelligent, she can read the bible very well in our local language, and can speak little pidgin English, she's a fast learner, if my dad want to train her it will be easy but he's not just interested in that, note that when they both got married my dad too was not educated, it was years later that he went back to school and did his PhD and still further on to a theological seminary, sometimes he do wish that my mother should die so that he can get free and marry a woman of his class.

Hmmmm, this is a very serious issue, OP if you do not want your mum to die young, pls drastic action has to be taking. The first thing I think you should do is to write him a letter and tell him how you feel and all what he is not doing right. The second one is to inform an elder in your family or church to talk to him on how he is abusing your family and neglecting the family. I will also advise you before embarking on these make sure you pray and fast because this is the work of the devil in your family.
If all these failed your mum should be encouraged to be separated(not a divorce ooo)from him for a while until things are sorted out.
