Thanks for this submission. But not all snakes behave this way. Some are wired to strike mere seeing creatures at 5m away, especially the desertic categories with respect to habitat.

this is a viper of the specie Bitis gabonica (the Gaboon viper).....and the girth around the middle suggests that it recently ate something and was probably trying to digest it when you ran in to it. It was too lethargic to mount a defence.

So put in all your best to earnestly make your marriage (having kids you can cater for) a reality, because it is a great achievement.

The snake belongs to Lamprophiidae family with respect to snake classification and commonly referred to as African House Snake. It is non venomous and very docile but could bite when provoked. The best meal is rodent being a carnivore...possibility of coming to your living room.
