RomanceRe: Would You Marry A Househelp? by GNature(m): 10:04pm On May 08, 2007
We all know that a 'househelp' is human and as such should not be exempt from being married to.

But let's be frank with ourselves people, we don't live in a classless society ! If you live in the U.S. and you get married to someone whose earnings are substantially lower than yours, you risk losing a lot in the event that your marriage folds up.

Judges in the U.S. would ask you to spilt your assets in half and give it to your soon to be ex. Alternatively, you can be forced to pay a good chunk of your yearly salary as alimony.

I recall O.J. simpson was paying his ex-wife $10,000 a month as part of their divorce settlement (I am not saying I condone him killing her oo)

So @ topic, if you are talking about here in the U.S., then no, I cannot marry a househelp because of the financial ramifications on my end.

Confident men never have to worry about such things. wink
That's so true. I have friends that are not college graduates but go out with ladies that are college graduates all the time. Infact, I even asked a lady working on her Master's degree last week if she'll ever marry a non-educated man. She said 'why not' ? As long as he is decent, and pays his own way, he's okay for her.

It's all about being confident like you said  wink

RomanceRe: Why Do Men Run Away From Educated Women? by GNature(m): 9:19pm On May 08, 2007
@topic

Because some educated women look down on uneducated men (some educated women even look down on fellow educated men if they haven't accomplished much, they see such men as "beneath them"). Some educated women are not down to earth, they are not approachable by men. So rather than subject themselves to humiliation, some men just don't deal with educated women period.

Again, I said some educated women act like this, not all.
PoliticsRe: Will Brt Work? by GNature(m): 8:50pm On May 08, 2007
@kaypinchi

You are definately right, the brt wouldn't solve lagos' traffic situation, we need a light rail/subway system in place.  The problem is the source of power for such initiative. We have to find a reliable source of energy to power any light rail/subway we may have in place. God forbid NEPA strikes power goes out while the train is in-transit, my brother, that would not be funny.

PoliticsRe: How Many Governors Will Wait To Hand Over On May 29th? by GNature(m): 8:54pm On May 07, 2007
Governor Duke of Cross Rivers State (might even become a minister).

James Ibori bank-rolled the Yar 'Adua/Goodluck campaign, so I don't think the EFCC will go after him.

FOLKS !  Remember, the EFCC wouldn't go after anyone without the blessing of Yar 'Adua. I think Yar 'Adua is going to let a lot of PDP faithfuls get off the hook. Infact, there is no doubt about that. That is why everyone is kissing up to him.

Anyone who seriously believes Yar 'Adua is going to let the EFCC go after all the governors, corrupt or not, after May 29th is just day dreaming.

Some of them are going to go scott free.

Lets wait and see.
PoliticsRe: The Next Senate President! by GNature(m): 8:43pm On May 07, 2007

I don't think David Mark stands a chance because of his military background, but lets wait and see.
TravelRe: UK Or US: Your Preference And Why? by GNature(m): 11:58am On May 06, 2007
Oh yes,  I just remembered this Akin guy.

This guy called Akin, he studied computer science in the UK. He is a UK citizen, but he has lots of friends here in the U.S., so he visits often.

One time when he visited, we were all discussing and the issue of salaries came up. There were some Computer science graduates making
more than $40,000 (with less than 1 year of experience). Akin had more than 3 years of experience in the UK and was making less than that.

Akin was fascinated when he saw the car and homes his fellow CS majors were driving and living in here in the states.

He then decided to move here. This guy was so good that he got about 3 job offers of not less than $50,000 when he moved to the states. He said he makes more and can save more because there is less taxes here than the UK.

I know, I know, but there ain't no UK equivalent of Condoleeza Rice, Colin Powell, Barack Obama, etc, etc.
So true.

Let me give you an example. I am not going to talk about my self because I am not the bragging type.

I know of a guy who came here with his O' levels from Naija at 17. His parents were not that rich in Naija, but he had an uncle here in the states to stay with. When he got here, he enrolled in a community college and worked as a waiter at a restaurant. He spent a year with his uncle and moved out on his own.

Because he had to support himself, the 60 credits that usually takes 2 years to complete took him 5 years ! But he hung in there.
To cut a long story short, this guy graduated from pharmacy school in 2005 (Pharm. D degree) and do you know what his starting salary was ?  $75,000 !!

Another Nigerian friend of mine who came here with his O' levels used to take the bus everywhere, he used to work at a fast food chain and his first car was a junkie. He is now a Mechanical Engineer. He just completed his MBA last year. He brings home over $60,000 a year.

Should I go on ?

Reverend:
There are far more rag stories than rich stories  sad
I beg to differ !   America does not work out for some folks because they are not willing to put in the work. They expect overnight success, but that is not what this place is all about.

donjohano:
there are more rags-to-riches stories in the US than anywhere else.
God bless you my brother, you have said it all !!!!

donjohano:
True, achievement of this dream takes hard work but the US does provide a greater framework of opportunity than the rest of the world.
Thanks again my brother for your wisdom. You will never experience erectile dysfunction in your lifetime amen

I know of atleast 15 people that came to the U.S. with nothing but the clothes on their back and their O' levels from Nigeria but are success stories today.
These are people I know personally, not stuff I just read somewhere.

Now, I admit, it takes a lot of hard work and dedication (and your legal papers to work and stay here  grin) as well as God's grace, but living the american dream is very much existent.
PoliticsRe: Can You Believe? Tinubu Betrays Atiku by GNature(m): 10:49am On May 06, 2007
Tinubu telling Atiku to shed his sword by forgoing the election tribunals, to me, does not mean he has betrayed Atiku.

People, lets face it, as much as Atiku's name had been dragged through the mud by Obasanjo et al, did he really think he could ever become president of Nigeria in 2007 ?

Atiku wouldn't have won the presidential election even if it was the fairest conducted election in the world. Most of the Northerners were ruling for Buhari or Yar 'Adua, not Atiku and no one was ruling for him in the south. So how could he ever be president ?

Tinubu to me is just being realistic (and a very smart politician I might add).

Atiku is a multi-millionaire with business interests in oil, shipping etc. He should cut his losses short and just stick to his business.
TravelRe: Lagos Subway Proposal by GNature(m): 5:05am On May 03, 2007
kulani2:
In order for Lagos to become world class, strong leadership is needed to fix problems and take bold steps. The
power problems can not stop Lagos from fixing its transport infrastructure while working on a lasting solution for
electricity. The two are not mutually exclusive and can be done together.
I disagree, in order to have a well functioning mass transit system in Lagos (subway or light rail), we have to address our power
problem first. While I commend Governor Tinubu's rapid bus initiative, it still falls short of adequately addressing the problem. Infact,
one can argue that it'll make the problem worse because of the dedicated lanes (for the buses) carved out of an already congested road system.
