The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has issued the statement below in reaction to the emergence of Uche Secondus as national chairman of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Mr. Secondus was elected at Saturday’s convention of the party amid allegations of vote buying and ballot rigging. At least one chairmanship candidate, Tunde Adeniran, has called for the cancellation of the election. The APC said the PDP has now been reduced to a regional party.

In reacting to revelations of how money-for-votes and systematic rigging was brazenly perpetuated during the National Convention of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the All Progressives Congress (APC) is mindful of the popular axiom: “A leopard cannot change its spot”.

The abnormalities that trailed the PDP National Convention have further exposed the PDP as a Party not ready and willing to change. Indeed, the PDP has once again displayed itself to the generality of Nigerians that it is a Party with corruption deeply rooted in its DNA.

Again, it is tragic that the PDP which used to pride itself as “the biggest political Party in Africa” has now been reduced to a regional party. By frustrating South West Chairmanship candidates, it is unfortunate that the PDP has decided to punish the South West for not voting for the Party in 2015.

We urge members of the PDP that can pass the integrity test to join the APC so that we can together bring about the much-needed Change the country deserves.

Former vice-president Atiku Abubakar says the All Progressives Congress (APC) promised to fight corruption but instead has delivered a war on the opposition.

Atiku said this on Saturday at the PDP’s national elective convention at Eagle square Abuja.

The former vice-president said under current APC administration, the country is not working and the people are jobless.

He said the PDP has a lot to be proud of as in the last 16 years, Nigeria prospered and was recognised as the largest economy in Africa.

“Under the APC Nigeria is not working, under the APC our people are not working. Let us consider what the APC has achieved versus what they promised in the last election. The APC promised us N3 million new jobs a year, in government the APC has lost N3 million jobs a year,” Atiku said.

“The APC promised us unity, under APC Nigeria is more divided and acrimonious since the civil war. The APC promised us restructuring, in office the APC denied restructuring. The APC promised war on corruption but all they have delivered is a war on the opposition.

“Comparing the APC in government and the record of the PDP in government, we in the PDP achieved a 10-year expectancy of our people. We the PDP helped Nigeria become the largest in Africa. As members of the PDP we all have a lot to be proud of. in the 16 years that we governed we made Nigeria prosperous. We made mistakes, we are human beings but we put our nation first.

“We now have an APC government which continues to blame the previous governments rather than solving the problems. The PDP is the party that will restructure Nigeria into a modern nation with working institutions.”

A man recently ended his life by hanging himself to death over an alleged controversy between his wife, mother-in-law and their Pastor, in Okoko, Lagos.

The man, only identified as Papa Ugochukwu was found clutched to the ceiling fan, in his sitting room by neighbours at their compound.

Before taking his life, the man who seems to be troubled, destroyed his ATM cards and left a suicide note on the table, where he wrote that his wife and mother-in-law were his problems. He also apologised to his own mother for committing suicide.

In the video shared by Biafra IPOB Infos, one of the shocked neighbors also revealed the man was a working class, who was earning over N200k monthly.

Detained at the Tinsley House Immigration Centre at Gatwick Airport in West Sussex on November 29, 29-year-old Bilal Fawaz , who represented the UK 6 times in boxing, currently ranked the 3rd best middleweight in England, and was the 2012 ABA light-middleweight champion, currently faces deportation to Nigeria where his parents emigrated when he was just 14.

Fawaz who is now married to an English woman, was brought to the UK illegally by an uncle, who told him his father would be arriving soon, but the man never turned up.

The boxer who now calls himself Kelvin, was treated ‘like a slave’, joined bad gangs, got shot once and stabbed 25 times, before he ran away from the home he was living in and was taken into care home where he became a boxer.
Daily Mail reports that Fawaz says his mother is dead and he has no idea where his father is.

He also says he’s stateless, as his parents were Lebanese immigrants to Nigeria, and did not have Nigerian citizenship themselves. He said:
“I am a national champion — in 2014 I even boxed for England against Nigeria, the country they want to deport me to.

I have no other family to go back to, I don’t know anyone in Nigeria or anything about it – all I know is here."

Imagine how it feels to represent a country and then to have that country turn around and put you in what feels like a prison.

It was gathered that Labour MP McDonnell and England Boxing have appealed to the authorities on the boxer’s behalf, but without success. The Home Office rejected his application to remain in the UK, and declared his marriage to a British citizen void.

According to multiple reports making rounds online, a beautiful Nigerian model, identified as Chioma Issabella has died after a brief illness.

Family and friends of the pretty model, who died on Thursday November 7th, have taken to Facebook to pay her heartfelt tributes.

The deceased’s friend, Ebolo Flourish also took to social media to share photos of chioma and to pen a tribute to chioma – she disclosed that chioma eventually died after fighting for her life from a sickness.

She wrote:
“Woke up this morning with the worst news ever… I can’t stop the tears from rolling down my cheeks…Isabella Chioma after fighting for her life for a long time, she lost the battle. Susan is dead…my Bae is dead… After all my prayers.

“Government has set up programmes to train them in different skills, and those who wish to return to school will be assisted to do so.

“In addition, government is also paying them monthly stipends for three months’’.
Oyemwense said they were expecting another batch on Wednesday.

On the 27th of November, my employer disengaged (sacked) me and a few of my colleagues with some bogus accusation of under productivity and insubordination. We were asked to turn in every company property in our care which we duly handed over before leaving.In our dismissal later, it was clearly stated that 'our terminal benefits will be paid along with our salary for the month of November'.

Prior to our dismissal, the sum of 5000 was always deducted from our salary every month as caution fee which is supposed to be paid when one leaves the company, but with experience from people that have left, it is always a tug of war as the company doesn't honor that.

Now, we got information that the company paid her Workers November salary yesterday but we that were dismissed didn't get paid. Individually we called the accountant who from the discussion we had made it point clear that there was no provision for us in the payment voucher and every attempt the reach the management has proved abortive as they have kept posting and at a point not taking our calls.

I decided to bring this here in other to get the best solution to this problem and also to know the various agencies to get involved.Apart from the call which i made to the accountant and the center manager, i have not taken another step as i don't want to make a mistake in dealing with them. I have seen problems of this type get solved here and i believe that mine and that of my colleagues will be solved. Thanks as I wait for HELP.

African heads of state have condemned the treatment of undocumented migrants in Libya, including widespread violence and apparent slave trading.

One man who gave his name as Franklin told AFP that he was “very, very happy” to return.

“It’s good to be home, because I’ve been in hell in the land of Libya. I’ll start a new life in my country,” he said as he waited to be given food.

The UN has urged Libya to agree to shut down 30 centres holding 15,000 migrants, whose detention has become a pressing issue after video footage showing African men sold in Libyan slave auctions sparked global outrage.

“Thank God, thank God, thank God,” said one young man as he stood in an orderly line at the airport to be registered first by immigration officers and then by the National Emergency Management Agency.

Nigerians make up the majority of undocumented migrants trying to make the treacherous crossing via the Mediterranean Sea to Europe.

Their repatriation began nearly a year ago but numbers have increased recently, with nearly 1,300 brought home in November, according to NEMA.

Another returnee, Omoburo, said he had been held in a Libyan detention camp for nearly nine months before he could return home.

“They used us to do all sort of things, to carry bombs, to carry ammunition, even to ‘pack’ dead bodies,” he said as he stood in front of a large poster of Nigeria’s first lady Aisha Buhari extending a warm “welcome” to the group.

It was reported that up to 70% of the Libya returnees are from Edo state
