Smartphones have proven to be indispensable for modern life. Now Lincoln is ready to add another important smartphone use to the public's zeitgeist: Phone As A Key, which celebrates its launch at the Lincoln Aviator 2020. With Phone As A Key technology, based on The Lincoln Way app, you do not have to carry a separate car key. If properly configured, the owner can lock and unlock the tailgate, and most importantly, start the vehicle and drive only their smartphone.

The system is compatible with Android devices and iOS versions 9.0 and higher, and uses Bluetooth technology to connect in situations where there is no Wi-Fi or cellular network available, for instance underground garages. Eleven antennas helps create and maintain a solid connection, while the Bluetooth connection covers around 30 meters around the vehicle. (The Lincoln Way and Phone As A Key can also be operated with limited functionality over Wi-Fi or cellular from longer distances to unlock or start the car, Lincoln says.)

Once the user and smartphone are within range, you can use the smartphone to open and close the window and trunk, press the panic button, or trigger the alarm. If an owner is around the vehicle within a radius of about 3 meters, key-less remote access is active. Passive access is active when the owner approaches the vehicle.

The new base engine is a 2.0-liter in-line turbocharged four-cylinder engine delivering 237 hp and 258 lb-ft. It is the same engine as the XT4 and a number of other General Motors products. The Honda Odyssey has been around for 25 years. So how could Honda celebrate better than beat a bunch of chrome on the fifth generation of its proven minivan? A 25th Anniversary Edition package is available from model year 2020 with all sorts of adornments.

The package, which is essentially an accessory collection, includes numerous 25th anniversary badges, a special key, illuminated door sills and chrome trim for roof rails and doors. Two levels of the package are available, one with the badges and chrome trim and one with some gaudy chrome wheels (the aesthetics are not considered here). But we admire Honda's willingness to stick to stickiness.

The other significant update for the 2020 Odyssey is that the 10-speed automatic, previously reserved for touring and elite trim, is now standard across the board. The previous nine-speed automatic for lower panels are no longer available. In our tests, there were negligible differences between the acceleration times of the two transmissions, but the 10-speed had better fuel economy in the real world.

Prices for the 2020 Odyssey starts at N11,442,600 for the base LX and reaches N17,429,400 for the top elite model.

BMW has announced that it will launch the inductive charging system for its electrified 5 Series 530e i-Performance. The mechanism consists of a Ground-pad that can be installed on a garage floor or outdoors, and a Car Pad, which is attached to the vehicle undercarriage and connected to the lithium-ion battery. The screen of the car helps the driver to position the car directly over the Ground-pad (the system allows a distance of up to three inches forward and backward and about five and a half inches from side to side). Once the car is properly placed, the driver presses a start button and wireless charging begins. The system automatically turns off when the battery is empty.

Full charging of the 9.2 kWh battery of the 530e takes about three and a half hours and has a claimed efficiency of 85 percent. The Civic of the eighth generation was available from 2006 and was fundamentally different from the previous generation. The relatively compact bonnet and the high-pitched windscreen gave the coupe and sedan models a spaceship-like appearance. This high-tech look was translated into the interior with a funky-looking dashboard that was ergonomic but had some special features.

Honda split the Civic into two different platforms, one for the saloon and the coupe, and one for a hatchback developed for the European market. The car was offered in familiar trim levels (DX, LX and EX) and powered by a 1.8-liter SOHC in-line quad equipped with Honda's i-VTEC system. This engine produced modest but respectable 140 hp and 128 lb-ft of torque. Buyers can opt for either a five-speed car or a five-speed manual to accompany the new engine.

The new Civic was slightly smaller than the outgoing model and had a variety of new engines. Offered were the gasoline-powered models DX, LX and EX and a variant with hybrid and natural gas drive. In addition to these models, Honda launched the Civic HF sedan.

The HF sedan received a number of improvements in terms of aerodynamics and fuel efficiency and revived the moniker "HF", which was last used in 1991 for the CRX HF. This car had a 1.8-liter four-cylinder in-line engine, which was paired with a five-speed automatic transmission and could reach 41 MPG in the city.

Honda's Eco Assist technology has been used on most Civic models (except the Si) to reduce fuel consumption. Eco Assist is an information system that helps drivers drive more economically and has been proven to reduce fuel consumption by about 10%.

The Hilux debuted in March 1968 as a new truck with bonnet. The engine was a 1.5-liter 70-horsepower engine (2R), which was also used in the Toyoace. The Hilux used a separate frame construction with a double wishbone / coil spring front axle and a rigid axle / leaf spring rear axle. The transmission was a 4-speed manual transmission with a column shifter. The Hilux had a passenger capacity of three and a payload of 1,000 kg with a loading area of 1,850 mm in length.

The second-generation Hilux was launched in May 1972. Both the long and the short wheelbase followed the mechanical components of its predecessor, although they extended the wheelbase by 10 mm and 45 mm, respectively. In addition to the standard model with the existing 1.6-liter engine, the Highway model was introduced with a 2.0-liter 105 hp engine (18R) to facilitate driving on highways.

The third-generation Hilux was launched in September 1978. It's model offered limousine-like features and ride comfort. The variants included three standard-length models and four long-body models. The new super deluxe top-of-the-range model featured an extended cabin that was 90 mm longer than a standard cabin, increasing the interior space. The 1.6-liter 12R-J engine was inherited from the previous generation. The double wishbone front suspension remained unchanged except that the coil springs were replaced by a torsion bar. The front disc brakes were standard on Deluxe and higher models.

The fourth-generation Hilux was launched in November 1983. The rear-wheel drive (RWD) models contains the Comfortable series and the Popular series. The fifth-generation Hilux, launched in September 1988, embodied the three basic concepts of power, robustness and comfort. In order to improve the functionality as a multi-purpose vehicle (known in Japan as a motor-home or recreational vehicle), the interior has been further improved. The body variants have been reduced to one with press doors and integrated sashes. A major difference between rear-wheel-drive (RWD) and four-wheel drive (4WD) models was in the wheel arch extensions: the RWD models had no-fender fenders, while the 4WD models had fender flares with a sturdy look. For this reason, the width of 4WD models became 1,690 mm or 40 mm wider than that of RWD models. The design of the dashboard and other interior fittings was even more like a sedan than before.

Infiniti celebrates its 30th anniversary this year and there is no better way to celebrate the big anniversary than a new set of special models. The premium brand from Japan is pleased to announce that it will introduce Edition 30

Not much is known about the range at this time, but the automaker says it will be the Q50, Q60, QX50, QX60 and QX80 models, all with visual enhancements designed to make it easy to distinguish them from the regular models. These enhancements include the dark chrome grille trim, the fender trim, and the rear fairing. A similar black finish can be seen on the exterior mirrors and wheels, while the body color rear apron completes the package.

More importantly, all Edition 30 models comes standard with driver assistance technologies, which are usually part of the Pro-assist package. The range of functions includes Intelligent Cruise Control, Proximity Control, Panoramic Monitor, Collision Assist, and Forward Collision Warning.

"Infiniti was born to redefine luxury rules and we continue to deliver a level of luxury that is fully capable of living and experiencing," said Jeff Pope, vice president of Infiniti. Audi recently unveiled its all-electric SUV, the e-Tron, and the model has now received a new entry-level version for the international markets. The basic version is called Audi e-Tron 50 Quattro and is the lighter and cheaper version of the SUV, which also offers a cheaper price. This was made possible in particular by the use of a smaller battery compared to that used in the e-Tron 55 variant, which enables a weight saving of around 120 kg compared to the curb weight of 2565 kg. The 71 kWh lithium-ion battery that limits the range in the WLTP test cycle to 300 km with a single charge.

The new battery consists of 324 prism cells, which are grouped into 27 modules in the Audi e-Tron 50 Quattro. The smaller battery paired with the same electric motor as the higher specification model, while the maximum charging power is limited to 120 kW, which is lower than the more powerful model compatible with 150 kW chargers. In comparison, the e-Tron 55 consumes a 95 kWh battery and promises a 100 km greater range than the e-Tron 50. Nevertheless, the lower version can still charge up to 80 percent in half an hour via a fast charging network

According to Audi, the power-train has been reinstated to increase efficiency, and the high voltage system has also changed. The lower weight also reduces the driving resistance, which further improves the efficiency of the electric SUV. The 95 kWh battery of the e-Tron 55 alone weighs 700 kg. Through the portals of the Human Horizons HiPhi 1, the Falcon doors of the Tesla Model X look normal. The fact that the most unlikely thing about Human Horizons HiPhi 1 is not his name which is more about the high-five than retro-audio equipment could be considered an achievement. This is an electric SUV from a previously unknown startup that can reach up to 600 kilometers and has self-defeating back-doors, gull wing roof hatches, and the promise to shut off autonomy immediately after launched in China in 2021.

While comparisons have already been made between several Chinese manufacturers and Tesla, Human Horizons appears to be on the rise, with HiPhi 1 being superior to Nio. The 1 is a three-row crossover that is just as long as a Range Rover with extended wheelbase. It is 204.8 inches long and can accommodate six power seats in the cab. The doors are electrically operated and have no handles: Access is either via a camera-based facial recognition system or via a trusted smartphone.


The rear doors are hinged. The wing doors in the roof open to facilitate access, 18 sensors ensure that they do not hit obstacles or get caught on anything when closing. They also can not be opened when it rains or when inmates in the back seats want a low-key entry (doors and gull-wing doors are referred to internally as "superstar" settings).

The other functions of the HiPhi are monitored by no less than 562 sensors. These range from mood-sensitive cameras in the cockpit to a complete suite of lidar and radar to enable piloted driving. According to Stanton, Human Horizons plans to offer level 3 autonomy and Level 4 shortly after launch. The car also supports C2X (Car-to-Infrastructure) communication, which allows intelligent roads to communicate directly with vehicles, warn of problems outside the sensor's range, or share traffic lights. The car at the start event also had a camera-based reversing system; Although this is not yet legal in China, there is hope that lobbying will change this before the start date.

In addition to the smart design, the HiPhi core architecture uses proven technology. The body is made of a mixture of steel and aluminum. Under the floor is a lithium-ion battery. Human Horizons claims a capacity of 96.0 kWh, although different sizes can be offered. The rear-wheel drive comes as standard with a 268-hp Bosch electric motor with a reduction gearbox with one speed. In a four-wheel drive version, the front axle is rotated by a second identical engine, resulting in a time of 3.9 seconds between zero and 62 miles per hour. According to Human Horizons, the HiPhi 1 will have a range of 400 miles according to the (generally optimistic) NEDC test protocol that China uses.


Human Horizons has leased a factory in Yangheng owned by Dongfeng Yueda Kia, a joint venture that manufactures Kia models. Although he would not talk about production models or pricing, Stanton insisted on "offering the Chinese market something he does not have right now," with the aim of taking a position in the upmarket Tesla segment. In fact, he refuses to call Tesla a true premium player: "I do not think a true premium brand would stand up to them." He confirms that the final plan envisages a number of different models and, beyond Chinese sales, exports to other parts of the world.

We have no idea which of the many actors in China's rush for electrification will thrive or even survive. However, it is becoming increasingly likely that at least some of them will become global players.

Off-road adventurers and Peugeot are not two words you would expect in the same story, let alone the same sentence, but here we are. The French automaker has recently developed a unique Peugeot 3008 concept that while not suitable for the Rubicon, is sure to have some fun off-road.

The concept is based on the GT-Line model of the 3008 with its 1.6-liter four-cylinder. Peugeot, however, has added some subtle things in the terrain. The 17-inch steel wheels are wrapped with Cooper AT3 off-road tires, while the under-body shield, like the front guard plate, gives the 3008 a degree of off-road capability.

Peugeot also has an LED strip on the front of the aluminum roof rack that allows you to drive on unpaved roads and paths. At the top is an ARB Simpson roof tent, while in the rear of the SUV a mobility bike rack is on the way when you reach your destination. No, it's not a massive upgrade, but proof that a few simple upgrades can help improve the performance of an SUV.

David Peel, Managing Director of Peugeot was impressed with the performance of the concept on difficult terrain. "This unique model is an example of the practicality and off-road capability of our best-selling SUV," he said.

In the big scheme of off-road concepts of an automaker, the Peugeot 3008 is unobtrusively restrained. Even the unique wrap is a little reserved compared to other off-road concepts. Do you remember the Lamborghini Huracán Sterrato? It was anything but restrained, but that's Lamborghini for you. Off-road vehicles are currently hot and there is a good chance that Peugeot will beef up the 3008 and its sales with a similar off-road package.

Bad Economy

Following the revised 7 Series sedan, BMW has revised its compact X1 crossover and missed him a much larger grille. Yes, we say grille singular and not grille plural, because the two classic BMW kidneys are connected in the middle by a chrome trim. Navigation and Apple Car-play are also standard, and the screen runs the BMW i Drive 6 operating system. If the X1 is equipped with leather trim, the lower dashboard and the door panels are now in matching leather and the instrument panel and floor mats are provided with contrasting stitching.

The X1's only drive-train, a 2.0-liter 228-horsepower turbocharged four-wheel four-wheeler, carries over to last year. The X1 is still available with front or four-wheel drive. According to BMW, the X1's eight-speed automatic transmission has got different gear ratios for better performance, and the gearshift lever is a new electronic unit that fits better with the rest of the BMW models.

All updates are pretty unimportant, but then the X1 did not need many big changes. It remains a favorite of ours after winning three 10Best awards in a row. However, we must ask and hope whether BMW is working on a hot M35i version of the X1 with the mechanics of the X2 M35i.

Versa has certainly evolved from homely to universally handsome, with details coming from the attractive Altima and the spunky. For the year 2019, Lexus has softened the LC500 and re-tuned the adaptive dampers for an even better ride. Never does the V-8 whip your neck back, but it pushes you slowly into your seat with the skillful and firm touch of an experienced masseuse.

Built for comfort

Unnoticed, none of the minor changes for 2019 leads to surprising differences in the objective performance of the LC500. This test car was negligibly 0.1 second slower than last year's model and achieved that speed in a respectable 4.7 seconds, while its higher profile tyres on the brake pad produced significantly less grip (0.88 g vs. 0.93 g) than the 21-inch rubber. Land Rover launched a new six in line This year, the cylinder engine comes in two powers: the P360 flagship models generate 355 horsepower and the P400 models produce 395. The six in-line is assisted by a 48-volt hybrid system to get its nominal power claimed. All Range Rover Sport models come standard with all-wheel drive and an eight-speed automatic transmission. The P400e plug-in hybrid model, which was originally scheduled to debut in 2019, has been delayed until the 2020 model year. The Range Rover Sport 2019 offers an athletic appearance and is stable and serene when sailing.

Interior and technology

As with the rest of the Land Rover line, the 2019 Range Rover Sport cabin is elegantly designed and exclusive. Genuine leather upholstery, a steering column with electric adjustment, interior ambient lighting and dual zone climate control are standard. The Fancier HSE models come with soft Windsor leather seats with heat for the driver and passenger in the front seat, a panoramic fixed glass sunroof and an 11-speaker Meridian sound system. A third row of seats is optional, but don't expect to park adults there. Land Rover's InControl Touch Pro Duo information and entertainment system offers two screens: one for radio, navigation and media, and a second one mounted below for climate control, driving modes and vehicle settings. You can add Apple CarPlay and Android Auto at no additional cost. Automated emergency braking and blind spot monitoring are also free, but more advanced features have an additional cost.
