elyte89: Dey shld sort out Jpes contract first …time is going
we are just playing with our World Cup qualifying chances with this coaching issue, any new coach now will need 4 or 5 games to stabilize especially when he wants to please the fans with a different pattern from what the current coach does, and by then our world cup ticket for don enter voice mail. If nff like make dem no get sense. We all knew how many matches it took jpes to get to where we are today.
Danielnino00: If Osimhen was a foreigner, I'm sure some of his critics will worship him. IMO, one thing that sets Osimhen apart from other crop of talented players we have produced over they years but didnt live up to expectation is his dedication and hunger. You can see the determination in his game anytime he is on the pitch.. that is the mark of a man who knows that he hasn't arrived yet. Missing those chances at the AFCON was painful, but it wont take away the fact that he is an amaing player.
I don't just want to go there initially before one is accused of prejudice, but is it a fluke that a player has all these individual honours below?
African U-17 Championship Golden Boot: 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup Golden Boot: 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup Silver Ball: 2015 CAF Youth Player of the Year: 2015 UNFP Ligue 1 Player of the Month: September 2019 Prix Marc-Vivien Foé: 2020 ESM Team of the Season: 2022–23 Serie A Best Young Player: 2021–22 Serie A Best Striker: 2022–23 Serie A Player of the Month: March 2022, January 2023 Serie A Goal of the Month: January 2023 Globe Soccer Awards Emerging Player of the Year: 2022 Stampa Estera Italia Best Foreign Athlete of the Year: 2022 Nigeria Pitch Awards King of the Pitch: 2022 Ghana Football Awards Best African International: 2023 Lille Player of the Season: 2019–20 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers Top scorer: 2023 CAF Team of the Year: 2023 Capocannoniere: 2022–23 African Footballer of the Year: 2023 Serie A Footballer of the Year: 2023 Serie A Team of the Year: 2022–23
Danielnino00: Osimhen at club level has 107 goals and 27 assists in 211 games in addition to having a Serie A title, Serie A golden boot and Serie A player of the year under his belt..... If that isn't enough for you to label him world class, then you're just hating.. bad belle, full stop!
Don’t mind him, this is how Yekini was criticised in those days that he has no skills, yet till today he remains Nigeria’s highest goal scorer.
A player returned from Afcon and have score two goals in a row yet he’s not considered consistent in their eyes. phew
Bannedlargedx2: One thing for sure, he earned and deserved that 2023 APOY
Drogba never won the afcon for CIV and in all the times Drogba played in the World Cup, CIV never went past the first round, now does that reduces the legendary status of Drogba?
Bannedlargedx2: He actually has to win a tournament for the super eagles to be considered the Goat. Don’t deceive yourself. It seems like we have created different rules for SE players. Ighalo scored 5 ANC goals and was chased out of SE but when it comes to other players, expectations is different and you will be gas lighted for highlighting any of their weaknesses
you are just bothering yourself, dude is APOTY, go and collect it from him if you think he's not good enough. There is nothing else the guy will do that can satisfy you, did he tell you he wants to be the GOAT?
Bannedlargedx2: Nope, I don’t expect him to win it alone. I just want him to score at big games for his country is that too much to ask? I really like the player just want him to score at big games for Nigeria
Oshimen has nothing more to prove to anyone again. If you’re not satisfied kindly ignore him and look up to other players. Scoring in big games or not cannot reduce his validation. Dude has paid his dues for both club and country whether you ask for more or not
Bannedlargedx2: Osimehn will give you goals but won’t win you tournaments. He is the type to score a lot of goals against small teams and goes missing at big games. To capitalize on players like him, you need another big game player next to him
This debate for and against dribbling is one of the most intellectual conversations I have seen on nairaland in recent times. Kudos to all the debaters, Una finish work.
komekn: You are prejudiced 🤔 and negatively BIASED to the point you are unable to reason.
I asked the contributor to state what Steve McManamum said that he completely dismissed as emotive rumblings.
So we can analyse and balance matters objectively ,there is no player that cannot improve. You need criticism to improve not undue praises and hype.
Osihmen does not need to prove anything more to anybody including Steve, if any top club thinks that he's not good enough that's their cup of tea. For a player who piloted his team to win the Serie A, piloted his country to the Afcon finals and he's APOTY, such a player has paid his dues and does not need any more validation ok?
Mujtahida: Your clips are like when a man says Nigeria is a poor country and you start pointing at Dangote, Otedola and Elumelu to prove we are not poor.
Football was created for fun. Efficiency is responsible for the blandness of the sport.
Take our matches at Afcon. I can't remember a single player except maybe Aina dribbling an opponent. Or even the opponent dribbling our players. It's just running with the ball, opening spaces and positioning to receive a pass.
The playmaker who is the supreme fountainhead of dribbling has been or is being phased out. What can be more emblematic of the death of dribbling than that?
I think it’s also a cultural thing, In South America or Africa it’s easier to allow iconic players to be idolised and given that free room to express themselves but in Europe they have cultural issues of idolising a player hence the focus on team play and even respecting the opposition to the extent they even frown at over celebration of goals or showboating skills. No team in Europe now will tolerate a maradona kind of player anymore all in the excuse of efficiency. It’s what it is.
komekn: Believe it or not I actually know Steve, we are not friends he has played at the highest levels and probably one of England's most skilful players in his era.
You have dismissed entirely everything he has said as emotional rumblings. Would it not be better to state his rational reasoning and appraise it then counter attacks with your own objective fact based analysis.
But you just dismissed everything, that's not a wisdom.
The criticism of my enemy makes me prepared for battle.
You have personal issues with Oshimen so you can easily agree with Steve, ok? So why bother myself
MetalJigsaw: Not a 100 million player - Liverpool legend warns clubs against signing Osimhen
pulsesports.ngFeb 23, 2024 11:16 AM
Former Liverpool and Real Madrid star has made a damning statement about Napoli and Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen.
Former Real Madrid and Liverpool star, Steve McManaman, has asserted that Napoli attacker Victor Osimhen is not worth £100 million at the moment.
Osimhen, who is increasingly likely to leave Napoli at the end of the season, has been linked with a move to the Premier League next season, and McManaman has shared his thoughts on the potential move.
Chelsea are looking to solve their goalscoring issues in the summer and are reportedly leading the race to sign Napoli's Victor Osimhen
McManaman believes Osimhen not worth 100 Million Speaking on TNT Sports, McManaman said:
Victor Osimhen celebrates his goal against Barcelona in the UCL. (Photo Credit: UCL/X) “His sellable value means it has to be the Premier League because German clubs do not have not got the finances.
"The big teams in Spain have not got the finances, particularly if Real Madrid take Mbappe.
“The only place he can go is the Premier League and he is certainly not playing like a £100 million player and that is what they want for him.”
I watched the studio analysis where he said this, that's typical Brits for you, na their way, raising the bar unecessarily when it's not warranted.
If Osimhen didn't score that night, I wonder what he would have said. phew
Mujtahida: Well said. To think that the South American leagues were at par with the leagues in Europe in the 70s and 80s really shows how far they've fallen off.
Odunayaw: That Mauritania goal. Infact the two they scored against Angola made me spill my phone out of joy! Thank God for screen guard and Kpako case.
NT football is football for me mehnn
I hope to see the glory days back in National team football, imagine watching the Euros back in the day, Portugal vs France which is like Figo vs Zidane omo no traffic can make you miss such games, you go jump on okada reach house on time.
Marjoribanks: I think cos: 1) They hardly spent time together in training unlike in their respective Clubs. 2) Clubs can buy players to fill in needed roles while National teams don't have that luxury. National teams have to make effective use of what they have or beg players to choose their country unlike Clubs.
In summary, the huge money in club football killed National team football.
Mujtahida: Be like I go start daily vituperations against tiki taka here. I just no like am at all.
Samba is possessive flowing football but it's poetic. (unfortunately since Spain 82 Brazil has increasingly become pragmatic) That tiki taka ehn, just too mechanical.
and that's what made this Afcon very interesting, teams like Cape Verde, Mauritania, Drc, Mali even Angola gave us some of those possessive flowing football. There was this solo goal by Mauritania, a very sweet Maradona-like goal. I think that's why this year's Afcon viewership was huge. Simon tried one against Angola, wish it entered. It was a delight.
Mujtahida: Bro, it is not for nothing that almost all well known games - football, golf, hockey, basketball - consists of putting something inside something. If you look at a baseball ball court, you'd see that the free throw line looks like a phallic symbol. (see picture)
So a goal represents the wonderful culmination of a pleasurable endeavor made up of many dribbles and sexy penetration passes (sorry, Amokachi, I couldn't help it).
A goal scored is a communal orgasmic event - we scream, we shout, we even cry. Instinctively some players even grab their joysticks when they score.
Dribbling should not die. That is the pre-intimacy that makes everything beautiful.
bros take am easy o, am but a child no carry me go where I no know o.
Mujtahida: I like old football and old footballers. It holds romantic charm which modern football lacks. Sometimes I feel I don't like football anymore but that's not true. I still like it. I don't just like modern football. It's too sanitized, too clean, too crisp, too unimaginative and robotic.
Ronaldinho was the last of the romantic kind of players. Once Messi retires, we will only be telling our children that this is not how chicken used to taste oo. That before it was sweeter than the bland mass of flesh they now eat. 🤣🤣🤣
Mujtahida: No dribbling again in football. Was just thinking about this this morning.
What happened? Pass, pass, morning till night. Isn't that tiring? That's why I hate tiki taka with everything in me.
Football is a game created by the romantic mind of men (before any one argues consider what a goal is - isn't that an orgasmic experience) and dribbling is the supreme romantic art.
If I were a coach there are three things I will emphasize in my players: good first touch, dribbling skills and eyes for space.
I wish South America continued to be the dominant force in football. Europeans have made football bland.
so we have a poet here, chineke
And you're right about South American football, I miss Samba football sha. The Europeans with their focus on team play which is good killed off those delicious mixes in the game that made us remember nostalgic players like Romario, Ortega, Fernando Redondo, Carlos Verdanranna, and European players like Hagi, Gascoigne, Schifo, and their likes.
Meanwhile, this our friendly against Argentina, dem swear for us with this country abi what's the matter. Now that our ranking has greatly improved, is it Argentina we should be playing now? The Argentina sef can't they say NO haba. In the end sef they may not bring out their main team o and when we win by mistake dem go ask for a re-match. What's all this
Bannedlargedx2: Osimehn not scoring at Afcon was him being humbled because of how he was treating his teammates. If you noticed at Afcon, he wasn’t screaming at his team mates anymore. Next Afcon, he will start scoring again and I hope that, he doesn’t reverts to old ways
was he the only one screaming at his teammates? What about Nwabali?
Mujtahida: It possibly did. He was just so unlucky. 4 canceled goals. The one against SA just nailed it. The ref made a good call but do you think if Osimhen had not scored, they would have reviewed that infraction? That's the bad luck I'm talking about
I agree and that's why am not too comfortable with the way CAF is going about this VAR, that goal against Barca will not stand in the Afcon competition but what can we do I hope things will go in our favour. I am sure this is why Paseiro was furious against the officials in the final.
Mujtahida: You are right sha. As we no come win, e come backfire but one day we will win. Soon
It's football, despite we won silver do you know how envious other Africans are? it's up to us to manage our success o and ignore those who are abusing us but inside are crying and wishing they were where we are.
The chances he missed in that first game took out of rhythm. He never regained it and bad luck again. He'd score and it will be canceled.
The goal Osihmen scored against Barca would have been canceled in Afcon as they will claim it was a foul against the defender, Barca complained and explained tire but who listened to them?
We need to finally appreciate the fact that the canceled goals of Osihmen at Afcon must have affected him psychologically
Mujtahida: Nigerians make a lot of buzz online. Would the competition garner the excitement it had if we were absent or exited early? I doubt.
But I don't support that loud mouthed boastfulness our people indulge in oo nevertheless it creates hype which is good for viewership
are we the only ones doing this? wetin Kudus dey play and Ghanaians are all over the moon boasting he's the best or don't we see this too? The Cameroonians made so much noise about Abubakar, or is it only me who noticed this too?
Look, it's all about National pride and it's fun. We all see how the English too will boast that it's coming home anytime their team competes. let's not join envious Africans to believe we are too boastful when they too are not different in how feel about their teams. And you've said it all, it's good for viewership which brings in more investment and boosts economic activities.
