Our team is set up to counter attack. We struggled against Tanzania cause they sat back. South Africa sat back, played long balls to bypass our midfield coupled with a useless goal keeper we lost. Teams that come out and play get beaten. Algeria, Cameroon And Zambia cane out to play and lost. If Zambia decides to sit back and play long balls and hit us on the counter we will struggle. But if they come out to play, they will be destroyed on the 7th of October.
Zambia has to come out and play if they truly want to qualify cos a draw will see Nigeria thru. The Zambians can't attack and defend at the same time for the whole of 90 mins, they will easily be exposed. Reason they conceded two goals in Ndola.

A team that last won a world cup match in 2002 & is currently facing a serious crisis in their FA has a psychological edge over us? Please explain how. I didn't criticize the 1st leg. We did a wonderful job & didn't give them a chance. We made their 2 CBs get booked early thereby pushing them in a tight spot defensively. The 2nd leg however saw us relent a bit & you can't do that in football. The Cameroonians did improve a bit but still they were poor. We should have won them if we were as intense as we were in the 1st leg. Yes we still lead with 3 points but there is a lurking danger. Your confidence in the indomitability of the super eagles is admirable but how indomitable are we? Consistence isn't a word we find associated with Nigeria. Underestimating the zambians is not wise. Did you not watch how the bafana bafana disgraced us in uyo a few months ago? A team we have beaten more times than the zambians. Zambia is not a small team in African football again ever since they won the 2012 afcon. I expect the zambians to bring the best game they have ever played against us because we stand between them & a maiden world cup appearance. All they have do is beat us in uyo & the blow that defeat would give our morale would do the rest of the work for them. They wouldn't be pushovers. So far, i believe they were the only team in the group that gave us a real tough time. If not for their profligacy & Carl ikeme's heroics, it would have been a different story at ndola. Yes we might have big names but they have a squad with a bulk of home based players meaning that there is better familiarity & team chemistry. This also means that they would most likely start preparing earlier than us. They play with pace, can threaten from long range with shots & do not get tired easily. Beating algeria home & away shows they should not be written off.
Nobody is underestimating the Zambians, it's you guys that are underestimating the eagles who perform best when under pressure. There is pressure from Zambia and they will be beaten. There was no pressure from SA and we lost. Check our history we perform best under pressure. There was pressure from Cameroon after they won afcon. No one saw us hitting them 4 nil.their was pressure from Algeria and we hit them 3-1 The mistake the Zambians has made is to beat Algeria and start to brag. The reason the eagles has done well so far is the quality of opposition in this group. This is where the eagles soar. Its easier for Uganda, SA, even Kenya, Congo to beat the eagles than soccer giants like Zambia, Cameroon and Algeria because the eagles play their best against stronger oppositions. You see what I mean?

if Cameroon wins its remaining games, nigeria will qualify. If algeria wins all its remaining games, nigeria still qualifies. But if zambia wins the remaining games nigeria wont go to Russia. So, nigeria has to beat zambia. Its the only threat, right? Thats what i mean.
A draw is what Nigeria really need to qualify

If balogun/ekong gets injured, we have awaziem, Agbo and even Ndidi can play as a CB. And if push comes to shove, we can always fall back on omeruo. Who would you rather have? Yobo? Shittu? I really don't see any problem in that central defence.

I did mention that we need a creative midfielder didn't I? The problem with the Eagles midfield is that thier creativity dies with mikel's substitution. Someone like Aluko would be a good addition, if not, Iwobi can always take that role.

We do not need another goalkeeper, Enyeama is still a member of this team.

Martins will have to do something extraordinary to displace any of our striker.

We barely have a year to the mundial, any coach that doesn't already have 75% of his team has no business in the world Cup. Our main focus now should be team blending and cohesiveness. The areas we need reinforcements are just few. The LB position, A creative midfielder and a winger. I don't think there is anything Martins can bring to the table that Iheanacho, ighalo, kayode, (in all likelihood, these are the three point men we're going to the world Cup with) can't bring.

I'd rather we spend that time trying to get tammy Abraham. If not, a LB, a creative midfielder, a winger(if bazee comes good he'll be a great addition), with 1-2 months extensive training camp and quality friendly games, then we'll be ready for the world Cup.
This has always been my point, we don't really have much time on our hands for newcomers.

Zambians themselves know the truth that their destiny as far as the wcq is concerned is not even in their hands, day dreaming is allowed though

Tell me how we qualified for 98 world cup, I think with a game to spare. Stop the hype, this team might be good but they are not close to it. Telling me you fancy your chances against Spain in the round of 16 is biased sentiment at best
oga go and sit down, no matter how the eagles play some of you will never be impressed. Even when we won the afcon in 2013, some fellows said we were just lucky. The fact that this team can even qualify with one game to spare shows how good they are whether you are impressed or not.

More like 60% loading. Not to sound like a wet blanket but the 2nd leg against Cameroon exposed the mediocrity that is very prevalent & celebrated among Nigerians. We went to Yaoundé to achieve a draw not bothering to aim higher for a win. We could have beaten the Cameroonians in Yaoundé the way they played. If we were half as sharp as we were in front of goal as in the first leg, we could have scored a 2nd goal. The midfield (especially mikel) went on break for most of the 2nd half leaving the wingers to bear the brunt of initiating attacks. Our profligacy was punished when the referee gifted them a penalty (which IMO was unwarranted) which they converted to level the score. We were fortunate that the referee became vigilant afterwards because the Cameroonians started diving in an attempt to win another spot kick. What would have been our fate if he was deceived? Yes, a draw wasn't a bad result but we could have done better because the Cameroonians didn't exactly step up to give us a really tough time. We should have punished them. That is what separates the top teams from others. They are ruthless and offer their opponents no quarters. They don't rest on their oars. They rest when the job is done. Yes, we currently lead our group but that is no excuse to think we have already qualified for the world cup. If we lose our next 2 matches & zambia wins theirs, we wouldn't qualify. Yes, it's highly unlikely but it's possible in the realm of football. If we won at Yaoundé, we would have been 5 points up, thereby making it more difficult for Zambia to try & mount a comeback. Now, Zambia are 3 points adrift & we play them next. Imagine if they beat us at uyo. They would be equal on points with us. It's possible after all, we did beat them at ndola. Didn't south africa beat us in uyo? Playing at home is no guarantee of a victory for us. It is not over until it's over. Can you remember how we qualified for the 2010 world cup? Tunisia led the group until the very last match day when they slipped up. We need to guard against complacency & thinking we have already arrived. That's the reason why since 1999,no Nigerian player has won the african player of the year. Even top teams & players challenge themselves to do more.
Cameroon was the strongest team in this group and they always have psychological edge when they play Nigeria, they were so confident beating the eagles in uyo which they showed for the first 15 mins. I took a lot of maturity and experience from the eagles to trounce them and draw them away and you call that complacency? You guys should stop all this over analysis. The team is on course, the zambians don't have that maturity and experience to beat the eagles whether home or away.

haba! You can't invite people repeatedly and you never play them.

You want to keep using your main players for a dead rubber game and you think they won't burn out? It's a given

After the Zambian game, it won't be hard to get Grade A friendlies, not like the fringe players will go and collect eight goals from Algeria. You can work on team blending with friendlies later on. It will be unwise to keep playing the likes of Moses, Mikel and Leon over and over without rest

I support this move wholeheartedly and it will most likely turn out better than you're anticipating
National teams don't play week in and week out. Its a FIFA window that must be well utilised in my opinion, if you say bring in few new players to play with the established ones, Its fine by me but should not be a match for complete rookies. We don't really have much time for experimenting as some of us think. Rohr knows most of the world cup bound players if we qualify. Why not use it as an opportunity for the team to play more together to form a stronger unit. That's my point.

The Guardian (Lagos)
Nigeria: Super Eagles' Fringe Players to Face Algeria After Zambia Clash

The Super Eagles' technical crew will give players, who have not had the opportunity to play for the country in the on-going Russia 2018 World Cup qualifying series to feature in the last game against Algeria. That is, if the Eagles beat Zambia next month to confirm Nigeria's qualification for the Copa du Mondo.

Zambia surprised bookmakers on Tuesday when they went to Algiers to beat Algeria in their matchday four game. That victory took Zambia seven points, three lower than Nigeria, who will host them in Uyo on October 7.

A win in that game guarantees Nigeria the ticket to Russia 2018 World Cup. The Guardian learnt that fringe players, including home-based stars and some based in Europe were originally billed to take on Zambia until the Chipolopolo took the decision out Coach Gernot Rohr's hands in Algiers.

One of the officials, who pleaded anonymity, said in Yaoundé on Monday that the qualifiers also serves as preparation for the World Cup, adding that it has given the coaches the opportunity to assess the mentality of the players that have featured in the series.

"The coaches know what the players in the CHAN team can do, but they also want to see them in grade A games. "If as expected We beat Zambia to qualify for the World Cup, there will be no need to play against Algeria with the players in the main team," he said.
I don't agree with this, the last match against algeria even if we win in uyo, should be used as a warm up game for team blending ahead of the world cup which is less than a year away. It can also be used to boost our FIFA rankings so we can get Grade A friendly games ahead of the world cup. NFF ought to know better nah

The importance of NL and this thread particularly to the Super Eagles should not be laughed at

The next time I hear anyone mention Algeria as a soccer giant, I go lash that person plenty strokes. They made Zambia feel like soccer giants which they are not.

I am going to add to all your concerns here regarding our LB position. Trust me this is a very serious concern.

Echiejile simply is not up to it. Let me take you back to our first game against Zambia. Omeruo has been hung out to dry for not dealing with a VERY SIMPLE cross which led to Collins Mbesuma muscling him out and firing at goal. I think the bigger issue not discussed at the time was what the Zambian winger Fwayo Tembo was doing to Echiejile. He was literally molesting the guy, dribbling past him repeatedly like he was a training cone!

Tembo had the freedom and space to had put a couple beautiful of crosses in our box because Echiejile was too scared to close him down. Why? Because anytime he tried to go in and win the ball, Tembo just knocked it past him and that was it Echiejile was behind him and he could run clean into our box and pick his options! By being scared of closing him down the guy was able to keep putting balls in dangerous areas within our box and that's how the Zambians got a goal.

Stupidly but favorably for us, the Zambian coach substituted Tembo just after the goal, not sure why, he must have been injured because if he wasn't that would surely rank as one of the most shocking substitutions I have ever seen in football. Tembo was having a free ride and if he had stayed on Zambia will certainly have created more chances and perhaps scored more goals!

We must get a replacement before the Zambia game or I predict a rough ride.

Who else noticed that the Zambian players who scored the goals to knock out star studded Algeria have barely left their teenage years? We must be very very careful. I am worried.
You guys are just having headaches which are not yours in the first place, the the wcq means more to the players, coach and nff. Do you know what it means to their careers? abeg make una chill, we don't have a bad case here. The zambians need to come out to attack in uyo and that's where they will chop it. They can't defend and attack at the same time for whole of 90 mins. Pls you guys should stop psyching the zambians up, they themselves know inside that beating the eagles in uyo is a tall dream, haba wetin.
