Kog45: What's our offence against Okoye, are we the one that made Nwabali to snatched number one from Okoye and Uzoho, now he made a request to be number one which coach declined, even great Enyeama and Rufai never made such request...Onana as man utd first choice was on the bench during Afcon, then who is Okoye, fact eagles made Okoye despite being a foreign born,he got the opportunity,a regional league goalkeeper to national team,it was obvious he wasn't ready but Rohr guided him and used national team to secure his first major European moved to Rotterdam. He should be grateful. I mentioned this earlier, people just Dey overhype okoye! I don’t blame them sha it’s because it was looking as if we no too get options |

solonnachi: AFCON is just 5 days away. Why is nobody talking about it? Una no get joy for this thread ooo The issue is if we keep struggling against so called minnows in African football as seen during our wcq so don’t blame people if they don’t have confidence in the team to do well in Afcon. It’s not their fault at all. I agree we must all get behind the team no matter what but mhen this one hard this time around hence the apathy towards Afcon. For me am watching Afcon as a neutral this time around |

solonnachi: I think FIFA still can. Under FIFA regulations, possession of a passport alone does not guarantee eligibility to represent a national team. Players must satisfy domestic legal requirements and comply with FIFA’s rules governing changes of international allegiance. Reports suggest that some of these conditions may not have been fully met, with additional questions raised over the documentation of at least one player who had previously declined an international call-up. All Congo needs to do is to provide all the documentation that the players met the domestic law requirements and that will be the basis of FIFA verdict anything less then countries will just be smuggling players from anywhere to represent them |

JohnBullMySon: No chief, I’m still saying the same thing I’ve earlier. FIFA nationality law basically requires two things. One is that a country has given you citizenship (evidence of a passport). Two is that you actually have ties to country (evidence being birth certificates, parents birth certificates, proof of residency as required by FIFA).
The first is what I’m saying that FIFA can’t nullify based on laws outside their jurisdiction. FIFA can’t police how a country gives you citizenship that’s why the second requirement exists.
The second they can nullify because if you’re not born in the country or parents were not actually citizens of the country then that requirement has been violated and any documents provided are false.
It’s a strange case because they meet FIFA requirements apparently but their own law is mired in some controversy. I don’t see how FIFA can legally make any judgments from that law. Strange case how? 😂 allow FIFA do their job or have you resumed there and left the African Union? |

lovewins: Then this is a departure from your earlier argument if your claim is that member association can violate their own laws as long as they have valid documents to present to FIFA. You can't I'm one breath argue that FIFA will intervene if they "falsify documents" to achieve their goal and at the same time argue FIFA won't intervene should the matter be strictly within the purview of Congolese law. For the purpose of argument, if all the falsification happens within Congo to arrive at an outcome, wouldn't that mean FIFA has no jurisdiction based on your argument since only DRC can validate what's true and what isn't? 😂 e don do bruv you don catch am. Cased dismissed! |

lovewins: The debate isn't about the constitutionality of citizenship, but it's application in law. The players being Congolese aren't in dispute but FIFA is a third party organization, and wouldn't just take their words for it. It will require presenting the necessary credentials like passport to validate said citizenship.
So while Lookman for instance is Nigerian the day he was born, Nigeria simply can't include his name in a list and send to FIFA, Lookman must first get a passport that validates his Nigerian citizenry which is the credentials FIFA recognises, this verification process by the way applies to every player irrespective of wherever they are born.
The proponents of the conversation are arguing that the players by Congolese law are required to have renounced previous citizenship before being granted their passports and by implication can't be recognised by FIFA as Congolese since thier refusal to renounce makes their passports null and void. It's more like the fruit of the poisonous tree kind of thing. I'm not even positing that this argument is correct or will fly, but this appears to me as the argument being made. So the argument in essence is that the Congolese FA flouted their own constitutional requirements for citizenship to get players through the back door I don’t just want to argue initially but you nailed it here. Most of us Nigerians don’t understand how the western or global world works. Just like you said it’s all about documentation to verify any claim just like it was found out about the SA player who had two yellow cards to be suspended, was it documented that he was suspended? Of course yes and that’s it. It has nothing to do with what anyone said at any time but paper and documentation to back up any claim. What Congo needs to do is to back up whatever they claim with documentation or credentials as you call it and all arguments will cease including those talking about wuruwuru. In fact I will be happy for DRC if all documentation shows they are in order but if not o ti lo. |
