I was focusing on Otamendi
Otamendi is not the worst defender in Man city. Pair him with a decent guy, you will get the best from him.

Otamendi has lost pace and can't keep up with the EPL. Maybe Serie A
How about Kevin De Bryn? The buzz around him seems to have died down. He looks off pace for awhile now. Is he aging too?

Can u compare this Man city to Bayern or Barcelona? John Stones is single handedly trying to end this man's career.
Funny enough this man city side beat Barcelona this season.
I think Guardiola have not managed to evolve his tactics to suit Epl and I don't see him changing. He's an idealist not a realist.

Same way Liverpool did not hold a gun before we bought Sterling. No club forced us to buy Delph, Rodwell and Sinclair.

The EPL has their rules of teams playing English players. So clubs buy their overpriced players.
It's the home grown rule. The player does not really have to be a native. Just like Iheanacho is considered home grown. Fabregas, Mustafi and Pique are home grown as well.
It's irresponsible paying £50M for a pub defender.

Clichy is an aging left back. Simple. Also, Rojo is more versatile can also play as a Central defender. His is better than Clichy. There is no debate there.

Silva gets into the Spanish squad based on his history. Not current form. Anyone watching footie lately will know Mata is a wrecking machine compared to Silva. Gundogan's rating there is history, not current form. From Dortmund to this season and the season before, Mikhytarian is better.

The Man City team is as bad when you have five defenders over thirty and two defensive midfielders over thirty. That is bad. Silva is also over thirty. It is an aging team.
Silva is getting old and Mata is getting young abi? I've seen David Silva own games this season.
If you feel Mata is in better form than Silva, that should tell you the manager at Man city is not doing a good job. He simply cannot get the best out of his players.
Guardiola is being exposed in England. He had it easy at Barcelona and Bayern. The true test of his managerial acumen is in the Epl. In his post match interviews, you could read from his body language that he's fed up and bored.
It doesn't look like he wants to be at Man city anymore. He's just knackered.

No one is debating if Stones can pass. The guy can. No one is debating if he is a good ball playing defender. He is. The problem Stones has is that his natural defending is weak. If we are not creating chances and controlling the game, he becomes a liability.

That was why he came under heavy criticism and Valencia.
Everton duped you guys. That's just about it..
In an open market, even Shanghai shehua won't pay more than 10M for stones.

Your rating is totally off. Gundogan can not be better than Mikhytarian. I totally disagree. From his time at Sharkhtar to Dortmund, Mikhytarian was crazy genius.

Baily Otamendi is close but I will take Otamendi because of his ball playing skills. One of the best today. However, Baily is faster.

At the moment, Mata is better than Silva. Silva is aging and creating little to nothing. Mata creates far better and scores more goals.

Rojo is far ahead of Clichy. No comparison there. Rojo is made brilliant. Clichy is now weak and aging.

I repeat, Mourinho has the better team. It is a myth saying he would do wonders with the current aging City team.
The heart beat of that Dortmond side that dominated Germany was Guondogan. When he was a year out of action due to injury, Dortmond escaped relegation by the whiskers
The new midfield lynchpin Tuchel have groomed is Julian Weigl. Watch out for that boy.

Mata can't get into the Spanish national squad ahead of Silva or even a fit Carzorla.

Otamendi/Bailey. I rated Otamendi greater or equal to Bailey. I domt need to tell you about Otamendi's reputation from his days at Porto and later Valencia.
His role at the 2014 world cup with Argentina making a final appearance.
whatever Bailey brings to the table, Otamendi brings alot more.

I would rather have Clichy at left back than Rojo.

This man city team is not as bad as your making them out to be.
They have simply regressed under Guardiola. These are world class players.

I wonder how you got that. If you remember the debate, it was about Leon Balogun vs Stones. I said, Leon Balogun is a better defender but when it comes to ball playing, Stones is better than Leon.

That opinion has not changed.
The argument was that Man city over paid for Stones. Everton dupped Guardiola and Man city in that deal.
I asked you if Stones was worth 50M you said yes!
Your point was that he had good feet and in his first game he had 96% pass accuracy.

I asked you if he was better than Umtiti and Mustafi whose combined fee is below 50m, you said yes! You claimed he had better pass accuracy than Mustafi then at Valentia.
Don't tell me you've forgotten so soon.

Just a few keywords, I will pull out your quotes grin

Rojo is better than Stones. Mikhytarian is in a far better level than Silva. Martial and Sterling is a tough one. Baily is a better defender than Kolarov, Herrera is definitely better than Yaya Toure. I will take Mata without thinking.

Goundogan > Mikhytarian
Silva >Mata
Martial =sterling
Fernandinho > shneiderlin
Otamendi>= Bailey
Clichy > Rojo

I can not okay everything City do. I was mad at the sacking of Mancini. It was crazy after he came second in the FA Cup and League. The whole not qualifying for Europe will come but the management were impatient. We are still paying for that action because he was one person who knew how to build a formidable squad.

I am definitely mad at the way we have handled our youth policy. It sickens me when I see Alexander Arnold at 18 start against Manchester United today in such a big game. See a kid like Davies run past our players and score.

It is still the same old thing I have cried repeatedly on this thread. Experience is overrated. What is the use of the Experience when Zabby and Yaya can not shield the defence. We have a young Alex Garcia. It is better we play the young players than have the so called experienced players performing abysmally.

With Kolarov, Clichy and to some extent Sagna performing poorly, why send Maffeo and Angelino on loan. Beats my imagination.

I doubt Adarabioyo can perform as poorly as Stones did today .
Finally you criticize Jon stones. That's a first!
Remember I told you Everton mugged Man city by selling Stones for £50m? The Evertonians must have been laughing all the way to the bank when Sheik made that payment. grin

I disagree on Mourinho doing better. It is a myth. Mourinho has better players than City today. We just have history names, not current form. Mata, Mikhytarian, Martial, Rojo, Bailey, Pogba, Herrera, Schneiderlin (Who he just sold) are good players who as a team are better than City but Mourinho is not lighting the league up.
Apart from Pogba, non of these guys can get into the Man city squad.

Nwanne are u sure u read my first paragraph? If u did, u wouldn't say my judgement was based on their past games(wordcup qualifiers) alone. Am concerned on their overall play in their past 3games (ystdy inclusv).

The Cameroun I saw ystdy ain't no force to be reckoned with, as u would want us to blv. Physically they are okay though that has characterized their game since inception but technically they are poor. They have an abysmal defense line with that shambolic keeper in Ondoa. Beats me why he is preferred ahead of Kameni and the other guy that plays in the Europa league with Ajax Amsterdam.

Until we see that young Samuel Eto, let's talk about Aboubacar
Maybe they don't seem such a huge threat because they don't have big names, but they are a solid outfit. They will give a game to any team in this tournament.
For me, they just have to turn their draws to wins. I read somewhere they have drawn their last 9 games.

I understand Rohr was seen at the stadium last night taking notes.

I will wait to see their next game before I beat my chest but I will be lying if I say they didn't play well last night.

It is exactly the same Cameroon that drew with Zambia and Algeria. They still lack the cutting edge.

Decent team but nothing to lose sleep over.
It will be a mistake to judge them on their performance against Zambia, just like it will be disastrous judging the Super Eagles with their game in Alexandria.

There game last night was impressive. I see them as the dark horses of this tournament.

Same Cameroun I watched last night? They could only boast of their physical presence of which Charles Kabore, Nagoma and Kone were real marches. Safe for Moukandjo and bassogog they had a pathetic attacking line up(though no thanks to Vinz Boubacar's suspension). Against a well disciplined team, they would lose by a very ridiculous margin. They lack that cutting edge that makes a good team fearful. Saw how they kept elbowing their opponents at every aerial battle to draw fouls even at dangerous zones? I ain't writing them off but u are over exaggerating their abilities. The less said about their back four, the better.

Don't give me excuse of some withdrawals because they didn't fair any better against Zambia in their own backyard when they had a full house.

They are good but not a cause for panic.

BTW, I admire that Bakari Kone of Burkina. What a sweet clinical, strong, rugged and no-nonsense Centre back. His aerial presence despite his small frame is a delight to watch. No wonder he is a mainstay in Malagas' first eleven.
I made my judgment purely based on their game last night. A team is as good as their last game, if you judge them based on what they played against Zambia in October you will be making a mistake.
They were impressive last night as the tournament progresses they will get better.

Put a young Samuel Eto in this team, they will walk this tournament.

Watched the Cameron Burkina game last night. In all honesty, the indomitable lions were very very impressive. They kept their shape well and played through Burkina with precise passes. They possess very athletic/mobile players and they seem to have stamped out their usual robust/dirty jam body football, thanks to the absence of the likes of Song and Mbia , although they still managed 4 yellow cards.
I hope Rohr was taking note of their game last night because I see these guys giving us a fight to the end.

If we are to get anything from the games against this side, our wingbacks need to have an excellent game because the Cameronian's are potent down the wings with Moukanjo , Bassogogo and Clinton N'jie. Imagine if Mbappe chose to represent Cameroun.. Hmm
Also, we must avoid giving up free kicks in dangerous areas. Moukanjo can burry those in like he did last night.

If we can get 4 hard points from this guys and 6 points from Zambia, we will be home and dry.
Let's not make mistake thinking Cameroun will be an easy ride, they played the best football so far in this tournament.

I don't know what to make of the Pillars Vs Ifeanyiuba incident but irrespective of what errors the referee made, I hope FcIU are docked 7-9 points for bringing the game to disrepute and made to pay a fine commiserate to the cost of tickets for the sold out sani abacha stadium.
Also, they should be made to refund the operational cost for the live coverage by the media.

Apropriate sanctions should be meted out on the referee if it's proved he made questionable calls.

FcIU should have been professional enough to continue the game. Last season, they got to the FA cup final via favourable calls in the quater finals and semi finals.

Echiejile was dropped by Keshi, not injured. You already exposed yourself when you were talking before World Cup.
Echiejile was fit and on the bench. Terrible in games. Oshaniwa came in and the result switched.

As in. How can such a clear and precise statement be taken out of context, beats my imagination.

I never talked about the World Cup. It was you. I said, YOU, YOU, exposed yourself when you talked before World Cup. Not me.

The next line stated. Echiejile was fit and on the bench. This statement is continuing from my earlier point that it was after the World Cup.

Logically, someone like you should know Echiejile did not go to the World Cup. Talk less of fit and on the bench.

I said, Echiejile caused us in some games. You started talking of Echiejile was not dropped but injured.

I was, you exposed yourself because when talking of Echiejile causing us games, it is common knowledge that it was the AFCON.

You not knowing and Arguing is your style. Then went ahead the most shocking post of the thread by quoting an old article, without reading it to support your claim.

You already exposed you deficiency in this. You can continue your damage control.
All these back and forth is pointless. No matter how long we argue this, you won't agree Elderson has been one of our most consistent performers. Going to an extent of comparing him with Oshaniwa shows how desperate you are.

For starters, Elderson has 52 caps and counting. Your much fancied bling bling, Babayaro has just 27 caps.
He has twice the caps Babayaro who you rate as the best Nigerian left back, yet you have no qualms throwing him under the bus. Probably oblivious to you that he has achieved more than what Babayaro managed to achieve with the Super Eagles let alone Oshaniwa.
