Bassogog was magnificent at the Afcon... But I have to admit also that Iwobi brings more quality and danger to the wings even though he is much much more comfortable in the centre.
If I was the manager of an all star cameroun/Nigeria team, I will play Bassogog on the right and Iwobi as no 8.
I can't remember Bassogog loosing possession to any player in this Afcon. Cameroun always looked threatening whenever he has the ball.
Iwobi and Bassogog can be integrated into the same team. Them boys are ballers.

Moses switches with Iwobi during our games ooo... Against Algeria, he started on the right before he switched to the left.

But you're right... "Predominantly", Moses is found on the left in Super Eagles games.

So on the right then, Bassogog will bench Iwobi?

On the left No one can bench Moses on that Camerounian team and that is where Moukandjo majorly operated from... "The left"

Moukandjo in the centre?... Yes he can make our first XI... But it's still debatable though. smiley

It is in defence I will comfortably say Cameroun will walk into our squads.... Their fullbacks like Onyango is an example.
It will be too plain to say Bassogog will bench Iwobi. Remember, Iwobi's favorite position is not on the right. Even if he played there for the Super Eagles, he barely just managed. In the match against Algeria, if we are to be honest, he had no joy playing on the right apart from the rainbow flick, he offered nothing else.
You should know by now that am a free thinker and not biased or guided with sentiments when am analysing soccer.

Bassogog is more comfortable on the right, while Iwobi does better in the Ozil position as no 8. Bassogog was the Mvp in this Afcon, hope you remember.

Sir Goldfish... Are you saying Bassogog will bench Victor Moses? On the right?

And Moukandjo will bench Iwobi on the left?
Moses plays predominantly on the left for the Super Eagles while Bassogog plays on the right preferring to cut in with his left foot.
With the form Moukandjo displayed and his leadership qualities, definitely he can win a spot in our midfield.
He is comfortable on the wings and in the middle remember.

Okocha was obsessed with okocha and did a lot of very exciting show boating that looked good but didn't always help the team.

Oruma may not have been as skilful but he played a an unselfish team game with end product. I remember him in the Ghana v Nigeria Afcon he was outstanding. Unfortunately JJay didn't like the competition he represented and was not very sportsman like to him.
You got it spot on about Okocha. His talent is not in doubt but he played for himself more than for the team at times. Olishe was furious with him in France 98 for show booting and playing to the gallery. Obviously he was playing for a contract which he later got at PSG.

I've had discussions with some of his old friends, the image they paint of him is that of a self centred guy. Obviously this reflects on his game.

According to the article, the writer said apart from Ondoa and the two centre backs, you will do well to find any other player who can get into the Super Eagles squad.
Personally, I will add Benjamin Moukandjo and Bassogog to those who can make our squad.

Okocha had the might to keep playing based on his semi-god status. The arrival of Mikel was the catalyst that made it easy for Okocha to leave. Shakara is different from leaving.
Even before Mikel made his super eagles debut, Okocha was already dodging national team engagements. That's a fact.
If Nigeria had qualified for the world cup in Germany, Okocha would have stepped out of the pitch a minute for Mikel.

Mikel did not play for the national team again prior to being named in the squad for the 2006 Africa Cup of Nations. In Nigeria's first group game, against Ghana, Mikel was an unused substitute. However, he was introduced into the second game against Zimbabwe early in the second half. Within ten minutes of coming on, he had supplied both the corner that resulted in Christian Obodo heading the game's opening goal, and scored Nigeria's second goal.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Obi_Mikel

This was where the magic happened. After this game it was time for Mikel to carry on the touch.
The 2006 world cup qualifiers were done and dusted before the AFCON. Okocha's should shakara started in 2005

TheGoodJoe:

A player who is not World Class can not do what Mikel did against Spain. Mikel set the whole world talking. Even Bleacherreport did a full article after the game about Mikel. Extravagance is not all the ten role is about. Mikel brings a class of maturity and intelligence you can hardly find in the game. He is a pure genius. If not the faith Big Boss Keshi had in Mikel we would not even have this discussion. And, Yes, Mikel is among the all time greats of the Super Eagles. Why do you think Okocha retired early when he still had so much football in him? He trusted the young Mikel to carry the touch on and the young man delivered.
I disagree with you on Okocha. Okocha was selfish, his resignation was not due to the emergence of Mikel. He basically wanted to protect his future at Bolton wanderers, funny enough he was binned by Bolton when they were done with him.
Have you forgotten how he lied that he lost his way in London enroute an Eagle's training camp? His nonchalant attitude cost us the world cup ticket in 2005 to Angola. It still hurts when I think about it, thankfully Nigerians have moved on.

Iheanacho In Hot Water With Man City Coach After Refusing To Sign Representation Contract

https://allnigeriasoccer.com/football_pics/36480Kelechi.jpg

Kelechi Iheanacho has fallen out of favour with Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola, and it has been suggested by a City insider that the Nigeria international refused to sign a representation contract with one of the most
powerful agencies in the world, Pere Guardiola’s
Media Base Sports.

The Taye Academy product has been frozen out
of the Citizens squad, and has not been included on their 18-man roster for the last four matches in all competitions.

It was earlier claimed by Chidiebere Nwakali’s
camp that Pere Guardiola now looks after the
former Flying Eagles midfielder, and the Spanish agent also manages another Man City talent Brahim Díaz, who was rewarded with a new deal in September.

When asked why Iheanacho is no more getting
game time, a Manchester City staff told
allnigeriasoccer.com : “Kelechi refused to sign
a contract with Pere Guardiola, that’s why he is
out of the team. ”

Iheanacho is thought to be represented by
Gareth Bale’s agency, Stellar Group, but it is
being contested by the company that brokered
the deal that took him to Manchester City in
2014, First Eleven Management.

With the Spanish amarda at Man city these days, there indeed could be substance to this publication.
The Jorge Mendez and Porto relationship could come into play here with the Guardiolas.

He doesn't even make the subs bench anymore.

It was Guinea-Bissau and not Equatorial Guinea.

As at the group stage and even quarter finals I can bet even you did not expect Cameroun to win the trophy.

On paper and even as per performance as at quarter finals there were so many teams better than Cameroun. When people started taking Cameroun serious was after they ousted favorites Senegal.

Cameroun even finished second behind Burkina Faso. You saw how they labored to beat Guinea-Bissau. Coming from a goal down at half time and scoring 2 late goals. No pundit, I repeat no pundit(even the Cameroonians) at that stage would tip such a Cameroonian team to win the trophy.

Anything can happen in football. Cameroun won. Congrats to them.
I actually rated them very high after their first game.
In the last paragraph of the quoted, I said they have played the best football in the Championship.
Watched the Cameron Burkina game last night. In all honesty, the indomitable lions were very very impressive. They kept their shape well and played through Burkina with precise passes. They possess very athletic/mobile players and they seem to have stamped out their usual robust/dirty jam body football, thanks to the absence of the likes of Song and Mbia , although they still managed 4 yellow cards.
I hope Rohr was taking note of their game last night because I see these guys giving us a fight to the end.

If we are to get anything from the games against this side, our wingbacks need to have an excellent game because the Cameronian's are potent down the wings with Moukanjo , Bassogogo and Clinton N'jie. Imagine if Mbappe chose to represent Cameroun.. Hmm
Also, we must avoid giving up free kicks in dangerous areas. Moukanjo can burry those in like he did last night.

If we can get 4 hard points from this guys and 6 points from Zambia, we will be home and dry.
Let's not make mistake thinking Cameroun will be an easy ride, they played the best football so far in this tournament.
ASee my post after their game against Guinea. I even predicted Egypt will get to the final and loose because of the Hector Cuper factor. Lol.. The man really pissed on a sacred grave.
Cameroun are no pushovers. They have shown resilience and character to come back from a goal deficit from the first half to win the game.
This Cameroun team is very hard to beat. A lot for teams will find that out later in this tournament. It maybe too late when they do .

Technically speaking, I think their left side is their weakest link. If they don't improve on that area, they will have problems. Moses will have lots of joy cutting in from that part of the pitch.

On Egypt, I've said it before the tournament. The Egyptians are presenting a solid unit. Since there is no clear favourite for this Afcon, the Egyptians may snatch it. (if only the "nearly" man Hector Cuper can sort things out if they get to the finals)
This Cameroun matter don taya me. Let's go back to the usual topic of Iheanacho and Pepe.

Not one of your posts seem balanced. It just reads like you're having a panic attack undecided. Find SK wey you go smoke, cool your temper before you begin dey quote achievements from FIFA website
Well I can understand hating on your opponents or rivals but making biased and emotional laden comments in the name of analysis just to feel good about the prospect of beating them is just a manifestation of day dreaming which won't help anyone.

After their first match when Cameroun was first talked about, someone quoted me and said they were playing gburugburu football, whatever that means. Against Equatorial Guinea,, it was the same story, you even quoted me saying you won't take them serious until they they won the trophy, the usual naija big time Charlie pomposity.
Against Gabon, It was oh.. Cameroun were rubbish, only their keeper came to the party. We are going to kill them in Uyo. Senegal came, someone even made a bet of 60k, they aren't going to make it past Senegal. The guy was just too sure the flashy Senegalese will nail the Camerounians, after the game everyone ate a very big humble pie.
Then Ghana, I think Lexyman or some other person dared me to come online after the match. Ghana proved to be their easiest opponents. Against Egypt no one gave them a chance, even Icon4s yet they came from a goal down and won in normal time.

My dear, living in self delution won't help the Super Eagles beat Cameroun. Apart from TheSuperNerd, I have seen no other poster who have balanced view of the Camerounians. Its all about rantings and no substance.

hearing rumors that Tammy Abraham has accepted to play for NIgeria but the announcement has not been officially made

make I dae observe
A welcome addition if the said reports are true. I've watched him closely more than a couple of times.
From my observations, he has a lovely first touch. Infact his first touch is a stuff of dreams. He has decent skills, just enough to get past his marker(s), good close control, surprisingly decent pace for a big man and decent with headers. He reminds me of Kluivert.
However, the down side of his game is his shooting and positioning. His shooting could be a little bit way ward at times, his strength and conditioning needs to improve as well, although that's not a flip side because those little details will improve as he comes of age.
One for the future.

We have a comparative head to head advantage against Zambia. Its easier winning them in Ndola than beating Cameroun who have a better head to head record, been to more world cups, won more Afcon and virtually they have bettered whatever we can boast of as an achievement in men's football.

If we approach that game with a wrong mindset. A mindset that we are the favourites, bullish and normal naija arrogance, we will have our azzez handed to us.

My Favorite men of the Roaring Indomitable Lions who just conquered Africa for the first time since 2002 and the fifth time in their history......

Meanwhile the Hector Cuper curse continues.... smiley

-Fabrice Ondoa (jersey no.1): My Man of the Tournament. The finest goalie at the Afcon. He's just 21. The legends of Nkono, Antoine bell, Sango'o, Kameni Other Camerounian greats between the sticks lives in this fantastic young man.

-M. Ngadeu-Ngadjui (jersey no.5): This guy is like the return of Cameroun's beastly defensive legends all rolled into one. He scores and he defends with power, considerably good pace and grit. Won't want our dear Iheanacho coming up against this dude..... #Honestly sad
He was a marvel to watch and should be bested if we must overcome them over those two legs in Definitely Africa's biggest double header in recent times come August 28 and sept.3rd....

-A. Teikeu (jersey no.4): This dude reminds me of The great and super legendary Rigobert Song.... He may not be the fastest of defenders but he is certainly a rock. Joel Matip cannot break into this team's back four even if he were here... #fact

-Christian Bassogog (no. 13): This dude is a livewire and a menace on the wings. Reason why Clinton N'jie was mostly coming from the bench. Bassogog is one of the break-out stars of this new camerounian generation.

-Benjamin Moukandjo (no. cool: THE LEADER OF THE PACK. The talisman of the team. The team soars when he does but struggles if he doesn't come to the party. His assists in this tournament especially from freekicks are to be watched closely by Balogun and Ekong or any other defender that will feature in that African super special legendary battle.

-Nicolas N'Koulou (no. 3): Wasn't a starter but his goal brought the Lions roaring back into today's final. NKOULOU AND MATIP SHOULD NATURALLY BE STARTERS BUTTTTTT THE CHEMISTRY AND COMBO OF NGADJUI AND

-Vincent Aboubakar (no. 10): He's one for the big occasion. Have been expecting him to strike a great goal at this Afcon but he chose to do it at the moment that will end Egypt's run of 55 years without losing a final game. The last time Egypt lost an Afcon final was 1962.... Cc: The Super elders... Sirs: Icon4s, Kog45, Tbaba1234, et al grin

-Clinton N'Jie (no. 7): His wingplay was impressive whenever he was in action. He is a threat anytime anyday and a quality cover for Bassogog.

-Sebastien Siani (no. 15): This was one of Cameroun's most effective midfielders at the Afcon. He's a force in the Lions' midfield and also one of their strong lietenants. But I have to admit... The Nigerian Midfield still edges them in quality.

After all is said and done..... What a year we have up ahead... smiley

Squaring off in a double header against the African Champions and the team that will play at Russia 2017 Fifa Confederations Cup.... smiley

Our group in the WCQs and our games against Cameroun coming up soon.... Hmmmm

This is the stuff of legends..... #ThingsJustGotReallyInteresting
The real mvp for the Camerounians is Hugo Broos. Largely unknown in Africa but guy is big in Belgium. One of Belgium's finest.
The way he tweaked his team and tactics between the quater finals to the final was amazing.

He totally unbalanced the Ghanaians with a surprise 442. And yet again today, switched Moukanjo and Basogog from their usual positions. Its not a surprise he is yet to loose a game as Cameron boss.

It will be a war of tactics in Yaounde and Calabar.

Its been an eventful 3weeks of explosive football in Gabon. To be honest the quality of football I've seen on display have been top notch and I dare say even better than the bore fest they called Euros last summer.

Obviously from their first kick of the ball in this championship, I saw the champion quality in the eventual winners. Their structure, work rate and humility in their approach was evident for those who had to hawk eye.

Congratulations to Cameroun. Its a nice kick in the teeth to the likes of Onana, Chipu motten, Matip and other machineries who went MIA, thinking the country will be stranded without them. Rubbish

Nigeria coach Rohr has managed across Africa and so is well-placed to pick a winner in Sunday's African Nations Cup final. He thinks Cameroon, who have vastly overperformed after some of their top names refused call-ups, deserve it more because Egypt have been too defensive.
"This is a very interesting final, it is difficult to say who will win. They are two teams who play different football," the 63-year-old told DW in an interview by the beach in Gabon's capital Libreville. "One team are playing very good collective football and the other team is based on the defensive block, so for the interests of the game it is better that the team who is attacking will win."
Cameroon, also embroiled in a bonus row with their federation like so many African teams before them, are four-times winners while Egypt and their 44-year-old goalkeeping captain Essam El Hadary are record seven-times champions.[/b]

"Here in Central Africa we are close to Cameroon and so I think they will have a lot of people to support them while Egypt has a very good coach, a good strategy but they didn't do so much for the spectacle. But they are here so anything is possible in the final," Rohr added.

Missing in Gabon, back on track for the World Cup

Nigeria did not qualify for the tournament in Gabon and Rohr, who previously managed Gabon, Niger and Burkina Faso, was drafted in to lead the Super Eagles in August.
They have since won two World Cup 2018 qualifiers and sit top of their group, with Rohr praising his captain John Obi Mikel among others.
"It is an interesting challenge, to have a new team, a young team, to build a team with players who really have the spirit of the country, who want to play, to fight, to give their all, who don't want to speak about material things, but who are here because they want to play for their country," Rohr said.
"We have a good captain with experience we have found some defenders to make us stronger at the back and I think the spirit and harmony of the team is very good. But we know the important times come now."

An eye still on the Bundesliga

Despite living and working for a long time in France before heading for Africa, former Bayern Munich player Rohr has not forgotten his German roots.
"I see all the games. The Bundesliga is always one of the most interesting championships in the world with the most goals, with the most spectators in the stadium, always the stadiums are nice and full. Even a team at the bottom has a fantastic stadium," he said.
The revelation of the season has been promoted RB Leipzig rising up to second in the table to challenge leaders Bayern for the title. Many pundits have been critical of the Red Bull-backed club, which only came into being in 2009 and counts Red Bull Salzburg and New York Red Bulls as sister sides.
Rohr is not interested in the furor over whether they are a "plastic" club and saw their success coming.
"RB Leipzig are not a surprise for me. I know how they work, like in Salzburg, New York and in other sports. They want to be first everywhere and now they are second in Germany and they play well.
"They are only three points behind Bayern so we have a real big duel between the two teams and it will be interesting for the end of the season."

I disagree with your analysis. No two games are the same. You can not tell what will happen in one game by looking at another except you want tactical insight.

Both teams are tactically strong but Cameroon are poor in front of goal. Egypt needs a few chances to put the game to bed..

Except there are defensive mistakes by Egypt, can't see Cameroon winning it.
Why do managers watch past clips of opponents since no 2 games are the same.

If you watched the game last night tactically, you will notice Hugo Broos borrowed the Egyptian 4-4-2 formation against Ghana and surprised the Black stars with it.

The Cameroun coach will certainly study Burkina vs Egypt,in view of coming up with a solid formation to better what Burkina Faso were able to manage. And you could see Hector Cuper in the stands studying the game closely with his assistants. I bet he will rewatch Cameroun Vs Burkina to guide his tactics.

After all said and done, we are in for a tantalising final.

Football is not like: X is >Y and Y is > Z so X is> Z.

All three of these teams play typically in different fashions. The Burkinabe's though very enterprising but do not posses that cutting edge and sound tactics to see them through.

Cameroun, though tactically better than the Burkinabes and can also be very enterprising, may not have that cutting edge to beat the Egyptians.

The Egyptians may not be the most enterprising team in the final four but their tactical depth and edge cutting players would see them through.
Of course football is not mathematics but as it is we are left with numbers and stats which guide analysis in professional sports, not just football.

The only link between Egypt and Cameroun in this tournament is Burkina Faso. Because they are the only team who have faced both finalists.
Any sensible manager will look at both games (Burkina vs Cameroun and Burkina vs Egypt) as a preview or guide in what could happen on Sunday.

Clearly, its another day another dollar like the Americans will say but that's all we have.

This Cameroonian team though hard to beat but they can't stop Nigeria.

I have watched all their games each for 90mins in this AFCON. They have a good defense and compact midfield. Infact there is avery good cohesion between their defnse and midfield. However, they dnt have good strikers. This could be partly why they've had two draws in the WC qualifying group. I expect them to even get stronger when or if the 8 players that pulled out of the AFCON return to the team.

I expect Rohr to file out an attacking formation of very fast and skillful wingers and a point and kill striker. No room for strikers that would play 3 or 4 chances wide before hitting one on target.

The key is to get an early goal which would destabilize that their cohesion between their defense and midfield, stay compact on our own side and continue to terrorize them with quick counter attacks. God should please keep Moses, Iwobi, Etebo and Iheanacho fit for that clash.

I tip Egypt to beat Cameroun in the final.
Our attention should be drawn to how Egypt would unlock that Cameroonian defense line.

Cameroun must fall!
The Egyptians aren't good enough to beat the Camerounians.
I watched how Cameroun out played Burkina Faso and the same Burkina Faso outplayed Egypt.

Judging by this analysis, one will be tempted to tip Cameroun for the win.
