How?
Surprised I could find the nairaland link to the story. I knew way back in 2005 when I traveled to Kumasi.

https://www.nairaland.com/835569/samuel-osei-kuffour-im-nigerian

The gist was that he used to be a house boy to a former Ghanaian U17 coach. On a certain match day, one of the players got injured and the coach decided to call up his house boy. The rest was history.

So majority of Ghanaians are glad too?

The thing is they are tired of Avram Grant.

You saw Sammy Kuffours comment about Grants future last night.

Kuffour's eyes were visibly red. I felt for the guy. He is my favorite Ghanaian. grin
I understand Kuffor is actually Nigerian.

I think I was the first who fully acknowledged your post and stated that Your rating of this camerounian team is not off-point...

I remember saying Cameroun is not fantastic or spectacular but can just go all the way based on how things pan out... And based on the strength of their tactical discipline...

I haven't really been vocal about this Afcon as I want to be sef.... sad

But ehmmm... One of the Sportlanders who wrote off Cameroun earlier also tipped Egypt for the title... His moniker is Sir Icon79... And now Egypt have proved him right too... Can't wait for that final... grin

The bolded names plus Clinton Njie are bad-ass pacy wingers/forwards......their power and pace in this tournament was fully on display for all to see.

This is why Rohr need the fullbacks roles sorted as soon as possible. We have a big exciting battle on the cards in august and in september. smiley

Sir Goldfish's been vindicated.... smiley I love this thread. We all have our moments.... Hahahahahahahaha..... grin
As much as we talk about our full backs being top notch, we need hard working wingers and a fit Etebo.

Etebo tucking in as one of the DMs can help negate the effects of my player of the tournament Basagog.
Up front, I expect Ideye to start or someone in the mould of Aron Samuel. The CB pairing of Teikeu and the other guy is like watching Rigrobet Song and Kalla all over again.
We need someone who can match and win them in ariel battles and power play. I fear for Iheanacho if he is the one tasked to get the better of those guys. In such a match up, there will always be one winner.

Rohr really have his work cut out for him.

Watched the Cameron Burkina game last night. In all honesty, the indomitable lions were very very impressive. They kept their shape well and played through Burkina with precise passes. They possess very athletic/mobile players and they seem to have stamped out their usual robust/dirty jam body football, thanks to the absence of the likes of Song and Mbia , although they still managed 4 yellow cards.
I hope Rohr was taking note of their game last night because I see these guys giving us a fight to the end.
If we are to get anything from the games against this side, our wingbacks need to have an excellent game because the Cameronian's are potent down the wings with Moukanjo , Bassogogo and Clinton N'jie. Imagine if Mbappe chose to represent Cameroun.. Hmm
Also, we must avoid giving up free kicks in dangerous areas. Moukanjo can burry those in like he did last night.
If we can get 4 hard points from this guys and 6 points from Zambia, we will be home and dry.
Let's not make mistake thinking Cameroun will be an easy ride, they played the best football so far in this tournament.
A couple of weeks ago, I made this post and drew alot of flaks from forumites. Almost everyone thought I was talking trash.. . Now it's very clear
I expect apologies..

Anyway, congratulations to Moukandjo, Basogog, Tiekeu, Onyango and the boss Hugo Bross. Well done guys.

True. That's why everybody should be praying and rooting for Ghana to come thru tonight!

If Cameroun wins this cup, they would carry that momentum to qualify for the world cup. There's nothing like confidence when it comes to sports. Let's hope that the ghananese would do the right thing tonight by taking care of business. I have had enough of Cameroun already.

O pari
The Camerounians are clearly the better team so far.
I don't buy the idea of wishing the Camerounians bad because we are paranoid about facing them.

Personally, I want the Camerounians to win this tournament. It will be reverse psychology which will work against them because our players will certainly turn up if they know they are facing the champions. Just like they turned up against Algeria.
The prospect of beating the champs will be more than incentive to see off Cameroon. That's my interpretation.

Guys, there's something about this AFCON, the best teams are NOT winning. First, it was Senegal then Congo DR, and yesterday Bukina Faso was far better than Egypt but lost!

Let's hope that Cameroun isn't going to wobble and fumble to win the trophy! I just don't like the way things have been going in the tourney so far.
That's tournament football for you. The best sides don't usually win. Not so long ago a frankly crap Portuguese team wobbled to the European trophy with a washed up player scoring the all important goal in the showpiece game.
Even in 2013 an unfancied super eagles team without their best player Osaze went all the way to capture the trophy in SA.
It's a cup tournament. That's what it is. Let's enjoy it!

Congratulations to Egypt and Hossam El hardary. The young man El hardary makes it to another final yet again.

I've always rated the Egyptians to reach the finals but I don't see them winning the trophy. I expect the curse of Hector Cuper to strike again. The man seems to have pissed on a sacred grave, akin to the curse of Benefica.
I will be betting against Egypt on the showpiece game smiley

I like the looks of Bertrand Traore. The young man is so talented. Hope he goes on to have a better career than his injury prone brother Alan Traore. Watching him reminds me of the Iheanacho I saw who burst into the scene. Chelsea have a player there but unfortunately I don't see him getting the chances his talent deserves at Chelsea.

Enyimba FC of Aba forward Ezekiel Bassey has
joined Spanish giants Barcelona on a loan deal
until the end of the season, the club has
announced.

Bassey will spend more time with the B team of
the Catalan side, but he is expected to train
intermittently with the first team before the end
of his loan with the Catalans.

His progress with the B team will determine if he will be promoted to the main team of the team, and subsequently signing on a permanent basis in the summer

Uhmmm... I really think you gotta give Cameroun huge credits here. Putting their progress so far at this Afcon on just Ondoa's heroics is not doing justice to the observation of "tactical" discipline that team have shown.

Sir Goldfish80 did blow the whistle on this Camerounian team few weeks ago and so far he's been proven right.

Even when I saw the quarters pairings of Senegal vs Cameroun, I was just laughing because I knew history favored Cameroun prior to that fixture. I did say Senegal were favorites but I ended by saying History favors Cameroun.

The Indomitable lions have not been fantastic or spectacular in anyway... But they always seem to just know what to do to see out a game and get the results they want. I did mention this when Sir LazyErudite correctly predicted that the senegal-cameroun game will end on penalties with Cameroun winning.

Look, this camerounian team may lack goals and flair but they got grit, guts, heart and a discipline to keep their tactical shape throughout a game's duration. That alone is fearsome I have to admit. Tactical discipline wins you the toughest games some times and so far, Cameroun and Egypt has that at this Afcon. I don't know who will take the trophy eventually but you gotta admit that Cameroun"s tactical discipline have brought them this far and not just Ondoa's heroics or mere luck.

In August, that will be in another time scale, hopefully Our Super Eagles will be ready for the double-headed big battles.

Cameroon has only reaped the benefit of participating in a tournament which has brought some form of cohesion into the team. If Nigeria was in this present afcon, our team would have improved just like Cameroon.

The match is in August so it will be down to match fitness and form of players for both national teams. But let's remember, its the cameroon keeper that has been saving their asses, in their third group match against Gabon, if not the ball hitting the bar and the keeper's save from the rebound, Cameroon would have exited this tournament at the first stage.
Is the goalkeeper not a member of the team? The Gabonese were playing a win or burst game, cheered by thousands of home fans. Of course you will expect to see relentless pressure by the hosts.
Not many teams will have the temperament and mettle to manage such a game.

A lilly livered team will break under such intense pressure.

You should watch the game tactically and stop analysing like a regular spectator.

They haven't lost a football game since Hugo Broos took over, yet you think they play absolutely nothing. Only their goalkeeper came to the party.. Does that even sound logical to you? Even if you don't understand the tactical part for the game.

Lazyerudite:
Rightly said, however if you noticed to they give out q lot of fouls and that could be their own undoing against Ghana, reason why Cameroon will not go far in the present world cup. An average tactical team can defeat. Oh least I forget Ghana seems to know how to win penalties. So this might be an issue. You don't need to play muscle football with them. Just get one or two defenders to get a yellow card and you can take up the rest from there. The cameroonians don't really score unlike the Egyptians. So I will not compare both. For Nigeria to beat them, Moses must make them commit a lot of fouls and that is it. They will bulge eventually
It will take more than giving yellow cards to win them. They can opt for rotational fouling. Any good tactical manager will opt for this to stop Moses. Call it whatever you want, it will pass as strategy any coach playing Nigeria will consider using to stop Moses.

If the Ghanaians want to beat this Lions, Grant must start his best shooters. Trying to play through Cameroun with precise passes and ariel balls won't work.

Against the Super Eagles, I expect Rohr to tactically lure Cameroun in a trap. By that I mean, giving them false possessions in less threatening areas of the pitch will do the trick.
The gaps they leave could be exploited with fast wingers down the channels.

Is it the same cameroun ?they outmuscled most of their opponents , they ve meet their match , they will try harder . but i give it to their 21 year old keeper , he single handedly took them to the semi,s .if you watch that game you will remember the chelsea of the days of Mourinho (negative football) i still don't believe they are better , what has improved so far is their confidence , tactics is still zero.
Cameroun and Egypt are the most tactically disciplined sides in this championship.
These guys stay true to their strategy, hardly out of shape and very hard to beat.
These attributes are the evidence of a well coached team.

In the game against Senegal, if you watched closely you would have noticed they had the clearer chances and merely reduced Senegal to half chances. Football is not all about fancy footwork and passing. You have to respect other people's way of playing the game.

If watched their game throughout this tournament, you will appreciate how tactically aware the Cameroonians are.

Nigerians should be a little bit more circumspect and Liberal when analysing football. I noticed a lot of people don't just fancy this Cameroonians because we have them to deal with in the WCQ.
Thankfully Gernot Rohr have a different view from Nigerians especially those on the cyberspace.

Cameroun Are Far Better Now, We Have To Be Careful With Them – Rohr

https://owngoalnigeria.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/01/image-63.jpg

Coach of the Super Eagles of Nigeria Gernot Rohr says Nigeria next opponent in the race to qualify for the World Cup 2018 in Russia Cameroun have improved a lot.

Rohr who is working as a pundit at the ongoing
Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon made the remarks shortly after analysing Cameroun’s progress to the semi-final of the tournament at the expense of Senegal.

Nigeria will take on Cameroun in back to back
2018 World Cup Qualifiers later in the year, and
Rohr has called for his team to treat them
cautiously due to their new found form.

”They have improved tremendously, young,
physical and very organised at the back. The cup of nations has helped them a lot in terms of
organisation and this qualification for the semi-
finals will definitely boost their belief”, Rohr said.

”Teams need to treat them cautiously
henceforth. I have seen a lot of improvement in
the team. We (Nigeria) play them later in the year and we will treat them with a whole lot of
respect”.

I blew the whistle about this Cameroun team after watching their first game. I got a lot of criticism from alot of people here.
It took the game against Senegal for people to understand what I said about this team some 2weeks ago.

I would once again say, the target would be to get 4 points from these people. It would be a rough, rugged and raw back to back games against this lot.
We need players in top shape physically to prosecute these games.

Hugo Broos is unknown in Africa, but I can tell you guys he's one of Belgium's finest managers. The man has a respectable reputation in Europe, his tactical prowess is very evident on this team.
How fecafoot have managed to engage some of the best European coaches over the years is quite amazing.... From Wilfred Schaffer to Volker Finke, Paul Le Guen and now Hugo Broos.. Hmm
