Christianity EtcRe: Inviting Tithers To A Theological Discuss with Miwerds and Candour On Tithing by Gombs(m): 8:53am On Dec 07, 2013
Mark Miwerds: Took a while to listen to all the posts after waking. Heard this one and had to reply.

I do believe that there was a command to pay tithes. Notice the following verse:

Matthew 23:23 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have omitted the weightier matters of the law, judgment, mercy, and faith: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone.

In the above verse, our Lord rebuked the Pharisees for their neglecting the weightier matters of the Mosaic/Levitic Law, admonishing them, "these ye ought to have done." But in the same verse, we see that He commended them for paying tithes, telling them "do not leave the other undone." They were to pay their tithes.

So, I do believe tithes were paid. However, the tithes paid were not money ... they were food. As you so rightly pointed out, they were eaten.

Thanks for your contribution to the thread.
Some pretty cooked up lies uv hung up there Mr Mark...

Why would you wanna say what the bible didn't all in an attempt to nullify the validity of tithing? You said tithes paid were not money, but the bible said monies were. Or dime and nickel aint currency? Or was Jesus just being metaphorical?
or using a hyperbole? Educate me pls

Matt 23v23 MSG

23 “You’re hopeless, you religion scholars and
Pharisees! Frauds! You keep meticulous account books, tithing on every nickel and dime you get, but on the meat of God’s Law, things like fairness and compassion and commitment—the absolute basics!—you carelessly take it or leave it.

Pastor Chris

By faith Noah, being warned of God of things not seen as yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house; by the which he condemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which is by faith (Hebrews 11:7).

In Genesis, the Lord directed Noah to build an ark because judgment was coming on the world. While he was building, the people scoffed at him because there was no sign of rain. "Will God actually destroy the world with water?" they asked, jeering at him. Noah wasn’t dissuaded however; he carried on till he completed the ark. The Lord had instructed him saying, "Of every clean beast thou shalt take to thee by sevens, the male and his female: and of beasts that are not clean by two, the male and his female. Of fowls also of the air by sevens, the male and the female; to keep seed alive upon the face of all the earth" (Genesis 7:2-3).

Noah did accordingly, and soon as he got into the ark with his family, and all the animals, God shut the door after them. Shortly, it got cloudy, and windy; and the rains began to fall until the whole world was submerged in the ensuing deluge. The people thought it would stop, but it didn’t, until it destroyed all men and animals on earth. However, not so for the ark and those in it: the higher the water rose, the higher it lifted the ark and made it easy for it to glide along. The same water that destroyed others, preserved Noah and his family; because they were in the ark.

That ark is symbolic of Christ. To be in Christ is to be in God’s secret place of rest and protection. Psalm 91:1-2 says, "He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust."

Christ is your refuge! If you’re in Him, you have nothing to fear because you’re in safety. There may be a social or economic flood destroying men’s lives today, but the same waters will bear you up and preserve you.

Confession

I dwell in Christ, in the secret place of the Most High, where I’m protected under the shadow of the Almighty; my Refuge and my Fortress, in whom I confidently trust! I have no fears, because He’s my safe haven!

rudedough: Of course Stella Odua will never allow an interview with Sahara Reporters. Same way Pastors won't want to have a healthy debate about tithing with someone who knows the bible. Last i checked, this thread was inviting NLers to a "Theological Discuss On Tithing".

Christians deserve to know the truth, i know an average Nigerian wakes up in the morning and goes about his/her struggle. It gets so busy that they just don't have the time to sit and read the bible except on Sundays when they go and listen to their Pastors. It's sad to know however, that these Pastors they trust lie to them every Sunday.

Pastors please stop stealing from poor people. sad sad cry
And you guys are the 'truth' tellers

You guys are 'not so busy' n hence 'sit and read' the bible.

God now sent you guys on a message "Go and tell the world that tithing is so wrong, Pastors are 'killing my flock' "?

Fine!

This thread was opened for a theological discussion between Candour and myself against two other oppontents.

Unlike other posters here on NL, I have to listen to posts, and to have others debating while I am planning my presentation is distracting.
Noted too

I hear some deception in posts that trouble me. Question from a tither asking for answers to questions, saying "no insults", then asking, "Can one be a Christian and not tithe." To me, that is calling into question one's Salvation.
You missed it... It's a yes or no question. Kinda rhetorical. Which the obvious answer to that question is a YES!

Now how was that an insult?
huh

Salvation is not hinged upon whether one obeys his pastors demands to tithe or not. It is hinged solely on faith in Christ and His finished work on the Cross at Calvary.
Typical of an anti tither. Hard for you guys to choose em words carefully.

The tither does not want insults from the non tither, yet has no problem hurling insults himself? What's wrong with that picture?
You are obviously worked up!... I fail to see where I insulted anyone in my post. This was y I actually avoided discussing tithe with you...you just have a way of being self confused and accusing the other.

Again, I ask respectfully that those who want to debate, please, please open a thread for that purpose so as not to distract me. I do not believe that is asking too much.
Okies

In Christ Jesus I beseech you.
Mark Miwerds
You cn keep the thread sire!

Cheers
Christianity EtcRe: Inviting Tithers To A Theological Discuss with Miwerds and Candour On Tithing by Gombs(m):
Goshen360: @ Gombs,

Okay. We kick it off then!

I stand on the new testament teachings to the church and from that truth, tithe was never mentioned nor taught to the church.
Ok...did the new testament condemn it? Did Jesus? Yes or No wud be fine

On the contrary, tithe was abolished in Hebrews 7.
Not true. Who did?

However, this discussion is gonna be lengthy, so we can look into all angles of tithe. I understand you people claim tithe was before the law but you still run to Malachi to curse me and other Christians if we don't tithe according to the law.
Was tithing not before the law?

So, I take it that your claim that tithe was before the law is just deception if you will have to resort to tithe of the law to issue threat and curse.
Choose your words carefully

Why do you teach or think Christians should 'pay' or 'give' mandatory monetary 10% of their monthly or weekly income to religious organization today while the Apostles never taught it to the Church?
Because we are of Abraham's faith. And tithe is not a weightier matter, stop making it sound so.

The apostles never taught child dedication. Should we ban that in churches?Should Child Dedication Be Abolished Since It Is Found In The Law Of Moses? ....
(When Jo was saying the law is not bad, Paul used the law numerous times, so did Jesus...what then readily came to your mind by Jo's statement?)

Did they teach Using of annointing oil? Does that make it wrong to use in churches today?

Did they ask you to smoke or not to smoke? Should we then smoke?

Point is, they didn't teach on a subject does not make it wrong. But they taught about offerings? Tithe goes with offering, not so? Regards tithing, Jesus commended it.

Now answer these...in a short and precise manner. Devoid of insults

What is tithe?
Who started tithing?
Is the first act of tithing irrelevant today? If yes, why?
Can One be a Christian and not tithe?
Who owns the tithe sighting reference to the first tither?
Any relationship btw Tithe and Offerings
Whence The Tithe?
How Can one Figure his Tithe with reference to the first tither?
Does The New Testament Teach Tithing? Or condemn it?

Learn To Behold The Invisible · Friday, December 6th ·

Pastor Anita

While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal (2 Corinthians 4:18).

God doesn’t want you to see or observe situations from the ordinary standpoint; that is, with your physical eyes. He wants you to see the invisible, with the eyes of faith, through His Word. When you trust God for something, others may not see it, but you must maintain the picture of what you see in your heart.

Your life is for the glory of God. You weren’t born for nothing; you were born for a reason! But can you see the glory on your life? Can you see that you’re not ordinary? Can you see that the mighty hand of God is upon you? See it, recognize it, and say, "Yes, Lord! Your glory is on my life! I can see you working in me, and through me; therefore, I’ll always be a success."

It doesn’t matter if you’ve found yourself in some kind of "wilderness experience" right now; shift your focus to the Word. Look away from that distressing situation unto Jesus, the Author and Finisher of our faith (Hebrews 12:2). 2 Corinthians 4:17 says, "For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory."

In other words, that pain, that unpleasant situation, that challenging circumstance, may have been for five or ten years, but it’s for a moment; it came to pass! It’ll work for you a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory. How? By learning to behold the invisible: "While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal" (2 Corinthians 4:18).

Stop looking at your present physical condition. Stop looking at and relying on how much you have in your bank account. Stop looking at what people are saying about you! See God doing great things in your life with the eyes of faith. Imagine yourself in health, prosperity, and victory at all times.

Prayer

Dear Father, I look away from all distracting situations, and I fix my gaze upon Jesus, the Living Word. I walk by faith and not by sensory perception. I thank you for the Holy Spirit who dwells in me, and causes me to see the mysteries and secrets of the Kingdom, and apprehend my inheritance in Christ, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
