Enoquin:Thanks. Much appreciated. maclatunji:Thank you. I have checked out the page and will follow it. Godmother:Thank you, Godmother. Sometimes it's the small things that open our eyes to certain "truths". Yesterday I fell ill just because I stayed up too long during the two previous nights. Yet if I don't stay up long there is no way I am ever going to improve things. It's a complex web that forces you to think deep about things rather than just accept generally accepted notions about God and spirituality. I do agree with you about things turning around. I'm currently trying to get a place closer to the Island - that should cut down on the stress and give me a few more hours to work on things everyday. |

Life is complicated. The thing about being broke is that you are not in control of what you do or what happens to you. Other people are. And this can bring about a situation of feelings of helplessness. Give you some examples. 1. A colonel sent to my state in the mid-80’s implemented a policy that has left me floundering for years on end. 2. The only good job I ever got, one (13 odd years ago, paid okay and was trekable from my pad) was lost because a member of staff decided to burgle the place and steal stuff, setting off a chain of events that led to detention and termination of the job of every administrative member of staff. 3. When I went to university in the late 90’s I could not complete it because a certain military administrator had put in place some very bad policies which saw fees going up astronomically. 4. When I tried to run an online business a couple of years back, I underestimated the extent of my adverse reaction to stress. Staying up late and getting up early quickly took its toll and I had to abandon the project after losing my entire savings – it wasn’t much, but it was my entire savings. 5. I am currently studying for a degree in law. But someone, somewhere, has decided to bungle my school’s accreditation process – meaning I may not go to law school and my degree will look like eba without soup. Had I any control, I would have gone to a better school. My present job entails spending between 6 and 7 hours or more in traffic daily (Ogun State go VI) and the pay is just enough to cover that transport and feed you a little. My school fees and co have to come from what I manage to make from writing and editing which is very irregular. I suspect that the script for our lives is written before we are born. I suspect there is a reason for it - which reason may explain why God does not intervene. Look at me. I could have graduated long long ago and settled into an okay job. But that was not to be. I can be very productive given the right environment – but I’ve been thrown into the most inhospitable physical and emotional environment of all, a roiling lough that appears to blind the eyes and bind the hands. How do you get productive with my working circumstances if you react easily to the stress? You dare not resign because being socially inept (what a post above mine calls being “weird”) has ensured you don’t have any network of friends. So you’re stuck – you can’t get a good job and you can’t go on your own. Fifteen years ago I wanted to be a fiction writer. I think I was quite good at it. Hell, I was winning prizes. But the striving to get food got in the way. I had to eat and I couldn’t combine that with fiction writing. Because, yes, you got it - stress. I’m not atheist and I have never doubted the existence of God in all these. Why? Because I can see a pattern in everything. I have never completely starved, or been rendered homeless. Food usually turns up when I thought it was over. Things never go so bad I can’t get to the next day. It’s as if the script allows the basics, the barest basics, but nothing more. I can eat. I have a room. But I want a proper apartment. I want a home. I want a wife. I want children feeling my ears with their shrieks. But these have been pipe dreams. That is why one would, perhaps, have been better off with sturdy muscles going to some village farm without a care in the world. But I don’t think God or demons or witches have anything to do with any of these. Sounds complicated? Well, that’s another topic - God. But I hope it explains why I suspect that the script for our lives is written before we are born. You see, there was a time I thought the reasons I can’t bring myself to hurt a fellow human being by stealing from them or cheating or deceiving them is because I’m a good person and those who have no qualms duping old pensioners of their entire life savings are bad people. Now, I’m not so sure it's about being inherently good or bad. I suspect that temperament may explain things. We’re all victims of our temperament. But, yes, hope one must. So thanks to Angeldemivida, sholay11, onegig, bellong and everyone else. Yes, I have visited the Business section a few times. Once my exams are over next month I am planning to leverage on my residual IT skills and go for video editing training, teach myself website development and spend some time promoting my editing side job online. If my degree will not be useful (they say they’re working on accreditation) I might retain my sanity by trying something else. Thank you for reading. I won’t have gone into this with anyone – no one cares, not because they’re bad people but because they’re not meant to. So it feels good to ramble on an anonymous forum. 7 Likes 2 Shares |

9janinja:Unfortunately, “normal” people can’t understand that ^^^ even if they tried hard. That is why they tell you “go out and make friends”. They mean well, but they don’t understand. In this situation, low self esteem and being weird (unable to fit in) are mutually reinforcing. Well, I think you can try the Internet stuff like someone suggested. Then you may try one-on-one with a professionals psychologist or psychiatrist (very few experienced behavioural experts in Nigeria, sorry, but you may be lucky). Then you can try adopting coping strategies. What strategies? I don’t know what will work for you. But if you put your mind to it you will work out something. 1 Like |

When I woke up this morning I wished I didn’t and almost seriously wished there was poison in the house so I could reach for it and ingest some. I don’t know I’m going to purchase poison and do it anyway – I think I still retain some of the religious stuff learned back in the day about suicide being very bad and I can’t bear to think of what it will do to my mother. I wish an accident would just happen and take me away. Every day you wake up and look at the dump yard face to face room. Then you go to be bossed around by those you have to help out with anything that requires brain work. Then you go on Facebook and see classmates that were far far behind you in school occupying important positions. Then your shoes are out and you want to buy but remember house rent is due this month ending. Then you run into an old pal and he asks how come you are not yet married. And then wonder, why is life so tough for me? Even, why didn’t God just make me like one of those regular people are happy with their little means of livelihoods – you know, an IQ of 70 with big muscles to carry cement and earn a little money and have no care in the world? But no, school I didn’t go. Yet if I carry cement or drive okada I will fall ill. I’m male. I will be forty in a couple of years. Nothing has ever worked out for me. I think even God made mistakes when he was making me because the smallest things everyone takes for granted – making friends, hardiness, etc. - are hard for me. Even ordinary school I couldn’t/can’t go. So I’m stuck in a small administrative job that can’t provide a basic apartment after covering transport. Until about age 10 things were okay. We weren’t rich but we didn’t lack. Then the military came to power and the colonel sent to our state decided the civil service needed to be pruned. And my father was so pruned. The world just turned upside down and has not flipped back till today. Nearly three decades after, I’m yet to get out of it. Don’t get me wrong - I’m not blaming anyone. I know I ought to have changed things by now. I’m sure you know people who had things very bad but went on to be successful. But I guess God did not make me with whatever it is it takes to do that. I don’t know, but I just can’t seem to find the combination. God also didn’t give me the attributes to survive in Nigeria because I can’t hurt anyone – I can’t bring myself to deceive, cheat or steal even when the opportunity arises yet almost everyone seems to get by through dishonest means in this country. I can’t push someone out of the queue to get to the front and it seems you have to do that sort of thing to “make it”. I’m still single. I want to be married – I’m sick of being alone. But I’m too broke to seriously consider it so I have refused to make any effort to go into a serious relationship. On the one or two occasions I mustered up some courage to give it a try the outcome was ghastly. The last one told me I can’t meet up with her financial needs so it wasn’t going to be me and her – she said so in so many words. Maybe it was just as well because I have always promised myself I will not bring forth kids under the circumstances I can afford now. I don’t want to bring a woman into it either. When I finished primary school there was no money for secondary school so I was sent to a vocational school. You can probably tell from my writing that I’m not exactly a lightweight in book matters. Well, I later read for O' levels on my own and got the required 5 credits. I gained admission into the university at 24. I could not meet up with my financial requirements. Unluckily for me, things affect me very easily – if sleep late for several nights going, I fall ill; if I drink more beer than I should, I fall ill; when I get depressed, I fall ill. I crashed out after part II first semester as financial problems and anxieties sent me into depression. Since then I have tried my hands a business or two but when you’re poor at networking it’s hard to attract funding and be on your own unless you have a solid capital base. I have also tried to use my skills at writing and editing to earn a living but not much has come from that since I have no networks. I am currently back at university reading from home for a degree. Now, I can’t stand it anymore and want to abandon it and take off somewhere. At part I semester 1, I did 12 course and the result was 8As and 4 Bs. But last semester, that is, part IV semester 1, I did just six courses out of which I had 2 Es and 2Fs – that should tell you the mental state I’m in. I’m terribly depressed and don’t know how I will cope with the forthcoming exams and then 500L. I guess I’ve rambled enough. 1 Like |

Politics / ‘ S’ West Integration More Important Than Mimiko’s Ambition’ - Igbokwe by Googler(m): 11:19am On Sep 18, 2012 |
‘S’West integration more important than Mimiko’s ambition’ SPOKESMAN of the Lagos chapter of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), Mr. Joe Igbokwe has harped on the need for regional integration in South West Nigeria, saying it was far more important than the political ambition of Governor Olusegun Mimiko of Ondo State. In a statement, he traced the history of integration in Nigeria to the “early 1940s and 1950s in the days of Zik of Africa and Chief Obafemi Awolowo until the unfortunate event on the floor of the Western House in 1951.” Urging the people of Ondo State to vote out Mimiko in next month’s governorship election and usher in Mr. Rotimi Akeredolu (SAN), the flag-bearer of ACN as governor, he said the state “must be returned to the great family where they belonged originally. “Regional integration in the South West Nigeria is one of the biggest projects in Nigeria today and Ondo State cannot afford to be in isolation. Like every other good thing in Nigeria, the regional integration going on in the South West is being copied by other zones in Nigeria. Ondo State cannot afford to be left behind in this serious business, Mimiko or no Mimiko.” He continued: “South West or Yoruba nation is too important than the ambition of one man called Segun Mimiko. South West regional integration is far more important than the ambition of one man called governor Segun Mimiko. “Segun may be pretending to be in the Labour Party but in actions, and deeds and in body language, he is PDP. Dan Iwuanyanwu, the Chairman LP, has just received a National Honour from President Jonathan and as political historians, we in ACN understand the game very well. “Today, no one ethnic group or zone will say that it is better than South West Nigeria.Is it in terms of education? Is it in terms of wealth? Is it economy? Is it religious tolerance? Is it market?” Source |

great1: Looking back at the string of events it is quite obvious that DANA air is not to be blamed for this air mishap.. We are quick to nail the foreigners who operate this flying corfins called airlines, but have we ever bothered asking ourselves who gave them the goahead to send Nigerian citizens to their early graves... Fair enough, PDP CPC ADC NPD CAN are quick to trade blames, but nevertheless will the true criminals ever face trial for this gross negligence...if the government is not willing to unmask the culprits who sold their souls all in the name of corruption, allowing unsafe planes to be flown in our country, then its time we unmask them ourselves... It is quite clear that stella odua has no shame or self respect, or let's say Respect for the dead... How dare her open her mouth to defend the first lady She should be answering the critical questions on how DANA airline got their operating lincense in the first place...I'm convinced she collected bribes from these criminals called investors, to allow the ill fated plane into the country... Our aviation sector should be grounded as well as everyone else who is affiliated with this incident... Sadly enough, I keep asking myself if the culprits will ever be brought to book... How many more flying caskets do we have left... Maybe 15 more... You'll never know....its good to see that Jimoh Ibrahim has been exposed by a member of his airline...are we gona end up flying in planes that are destined to crashhh? Jimoh Ibrahim has not been exposed by any member of his airline. Where did you hear that? |

Besides, I don't believe for one second that even in the military era a plane load of people would send a distress signal and be left to hover for one hour even if the plane carrying Hitler and IBB and Useni and TY Danjuma was landing. Not that if it happened and I am the pilot I would obey the "don't land" signal - I would just go ahead and land the plane make NAF shoot am down! 1 Like |

@lastpage
Well, 2.45 to 3.42 to 4.47 - something needs to be explained there. But is this 4.47, is it an error? I mean, other accounts have consistently put the crash at between 3 and 4. This from the "eyewitness account" thread:
Now consider these: 1. Someone on telly said 3.40 2. There was a football match played that day which started at about 4pm. Crash obviously happened before match. 3. My colleague just showed me her phone - she sent out messages of the crash by 4.54 (that is, the news had already gone viral and spreading on BB by 4.54). So I don't believe the crash happened at 4.47pm! |
