I ve just stopped posting on NL for a while until today.
My comments were deleted twice.Comments that only begged for an
answer. It was really absurd.I smell a very strong aroma of compromise.
One day, you will seek for 100 postings in 2 weeks, you will not find.

Politics / Rejoinder: Nairaland Forum Rules And Regulations By Seun(m) by Gooogle(m): 11:09am On May 09, 2013
I have been part of this forum since Aug.2006 though with a different user which is still very active and strictly for business and have watched how decisions have been made but the particular one formalizing your rules has been interesting. The rules have generated so much comments and to this end I would like to ask some questions and also leave some thoughts though I support a good percentage of your rules.

Is Nairaland a Not-for-profit, a social enterprise or for-profit? but let me assume it is for profit and leave some few lines below.

1. You are at a precipice of change, watch the decisions carefully.Your stakeholders management strategy is poor, change management of this nature would be best from a bottom-up approach than top-down. If you subjected these rules to a referendum via online poll, you would be shocked to know that so many people would still support all of them hence vindicating you.

2. Study social media platforms like twitter, FB and Youtube, you can easily tell of their value proposition, the reasons why people go there. Do you know the reasons why people come here? Dont you think the things you are now banning brought people here all these while and now you have 1m+ users, what do you think a change can create.

3. In an argument in support of the theory of Creative destruction, a theory by Joseph Schumpeter.Nietzsche argued for a universal principle of a cycle of creation and destruction, every creative act has its destructive consequence.

4.These rules can create a user fatigue, BTW, hope you know FB is already experiencing that across Europe and even in Africa.

5.I as much as i sense you want to be neutral and sit on the fence, in the long run, your platform can only be left-winged or right-winged and it is not a problem.

6.A number of sites are going to be cloning you in the nearest future or even now,I want to believe you give a dam.n.Don't play into their hands. Do a thorough scenario analysis coupled with your SWOT and CSFs before you come up with such decisions.

7.Ultimately, stakeholders management is very essential at this point.Your members are not scumbags, a good number of them are elites, and great people.Respect their views.

8.I hope you pay your taxes before the authorities come calling on your door. grin grin grin grin

I have a sentimental attachment to NL and would like to see it go into the future and not eaten up. Technology is creating so much unpredictability and I know you know.

From a good heart.
Nairaland / General / Re: Concerning The Controversial "New" Rules Of Nairaland by Gooogle(m): 9:31am On May 09, 2013
kaboninc: Am really getting some business tips as it applies to today's world. Mr Seun, have you come to think of how the likes of Facebook, Twitter, Microsoft, RIM, Apple, Sony and Samsung come to be what they are? I tell you if you do.....you'll be like them.

In as much as you have over a million sign-ons, you still do not have a tenth of theirs and honestly you never see behaviours. Theirs are more rational, aggressive, demanding coupled with the growth rate. Luckily the monopoly thing is in your favour.

Lastly, that rule 21 get as e be. I suggest it is modified. You own a site that targets a Nigerian society both near and far so why would or should there be a rule that affects the Nigerian lifestyle? Even Wole dey nack am too.

Very valid point. Back to the rules, I dont know why folks are so angry about no 17, you should be angry about everything. Dont know why I have a feeling that Seun is under a serious external pressure or he has sold the business but still managing it for the stakeholder and he has to do their bidding. Just watch your back, you dont have monopoly of this business and you are not an NGO. Your house is about to be deserted.
Nairaland / General / Re: Concerning The Controversial "New" Rules Of Nairaland by Gooogle(m): 8:35am On May 09, 2013
am me.:
@seun, All these rules will help pull u down in this business especially ur biased nature.

You know! am really interested in this aspect, its a critical business decision. It looks more like an emergent strategy than planned and I ll like to see his data in the next 6 months. I ve said it somewhere here before, we tend to think we have no competition and no one does it better than us. In an age of disruptive thinking, Seun would be so stunned when he wakes and realizes that someone is doing this better. There is no emotion in business, no normative thinking. It does not work in the long run.

Business / Business Cliches That Will Get Any MBA Promoted And Make Them Totally Useless by Gooogle(m): 1:42pm On May 05, 2013
Here are the 89 biggest cliches that will help you get promoted to middle management because they’ll make you sound like you know a lot about how organizations operate (along with my handy translations). When possible, you should use these in team meetings or in front of your bosses who will have a say in promoting you:

1. It’s a paradigm shift = I don’t know what’s going on in our business. But we’re not making as much money as we used to.

2. We’re data-driven = We try not to make decisions by the seat of our pants. When possible, we try to base them in facts.

3. We need to wrap our heads around this = Gosh, I never thought of that. We need to discuss that….

4. It’s a win-win = Hey, we both get something out of this (even though I’m really trying to get the best from you)

5. ROI [used in any sentence] = Look at me, I’m very financially-minded, even if I never took any finance classes in school

6. Let’s blue sky this/let’s ballpark this = Let’s shoot around a bunch of ideas since we have no clue what to do

7. I’m a bit of a visionary = I’m a bit of an egomaniac and narcissist

8. I’m a team player/we only hire team players = I hope everyone on the team thinks this is a meritocracy, even though I’m the dictator in charge

9. Let’s circle back to that/Let’s put that in the parking lot/let’s touch base on that later/let’s take this off-line = Shut up and let’s go back to what I was talking about

10. We think outside the box here/color outside the lines = We wouldn’t know about how to do something innovative if it came up to us and bit us in the behind

11. I/we/you don’t have the bandwidth = Since we cut 60% of our headcount, we’re all doing the job of 3 people, so we’re all burned out

12. This is where the rubber meets the road = Don’t screw up

13. Net net/the net of it is/when you net it out = I never studied finance or accounting but I sound like someone who can make money if I keep talking about another word for profit

14. We’ll go back and sharpen our pencils = We’ll go back and offer you the same for 20% less in hopes you’ll buy it before the end of the quarter

15. It’s like the book “Crossing the Chasm”/”Blue Ocean”/”Good To Great” / “Tipping Point” / “Outliers” = I’ve never read any of these books but I sound literate if I quote from them. And, besides, you cretins probably never read them either to call me out on it

16. Let’s right-size it = Let’s whack/fire a bunch of people

17. It’s next-gen/turn-key/plug-and-play = I want it to sound so technical that you’ll just buy it without asking me any questions

18. We need to manage the optics of this = How can we lie about this in a way people will believe?

19. This is creative destruction = I’ve never read Joseph Schumpeter but our core business is getting killed so it’s your responsibility to come up with a new product the market will buy

20. We don’t have enough boots on the ground = I don’t want to be fired for this disastrous product/country launch, so I’m going to sound tough referring to the military and say I don’t have enough resources

Nairaland / General / Money Can Buy Happiness...the Economist. See Where Nigeria Ranks by Gooogle(m): 12:24am On May 03, 2013
May 2nd 2013, 14:24 by Economist.com

..A new study examines the relationship between income and well-being

THE Easterlin paradox, named for economist Richard Easterlin, reckons that higher incomes do not necessarily make people happier. Since Mr Easterlin first made his conjecture in 1974, economists' views have evolved: money matters, studies suggest, but only up to a point. Become rich enough, and a bigger paycheque no longer leads to more happiness. Yet a new NBER working paper by economists Betsey Stevenson and Justin Wolfers, both of the University of Michigan, casts doubt on this chestnut. They use a trove of data generated by Gallup, a polling firm, from its World Poll. Gallup asked respondents around the world to imagine a "satisfaction ladder" in which the top step represents a respondent's best possible life. Those being polled are then asked where on the ladder they stand (from zero to a maximum of 10), and how much they earn. Though some countries seem happier than others, people everywhere report more satisfaction as they grow richer. Even more striking, the relationship between income and happiness hardly changes as incomes rise. Moving from rich to richer seems to raise happiness just as much as moving from poor to less poor. One never really grows tired of earning more.

Politics / Nigeria Enters Ranks Of Countries With Dire Journalistic Impunity Records... by Gooogle(m): 11:17pm On May 02, 2013
Stakeholders, please do something about this. I need cheering news going forward.

Nigeria is suffering from militant aggression in the north and politically inspired aggression nationwide. That is the background to the country becoming one of the worst nations in the world for deadly, unpunished violence against the press.

That sobering truth emerges in the updated "impunity index" produced by the New York-based press freedom watchdog, the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ).

The index, which calculates unsolved journalist murders as a percentage of each country's population, also found soaring impunity rates in Somalia, Pakistan and Brazil.

In those countries - plus Iraq, the Philippines, Sri Lanka, Mexico, Colombia, Afghanistan and Russia - journalists are murdered regularly and their killers go free.

"In countries where authorities fail to deliver justice in the killing of journalists, the result is more killings, while journalists try to survive by exercising self-censorship," said CPJ executive director Joel Simon.

"Nigeria's entry on the index suggests that violence is beginning to limit coverage of crucial issues, posing a grave threat to the country's democracy. The government must exert the necessary political will to solve these crimes."

Nigeria appears on the index — published to mark World Press Freedom Day tomorrow - for the first time. With five unsolved murders since 2009, Nigeria ranks 11th of the 12 worst countries for impunity.

It is one of two African countries on the list. The other is Somalia, where 12 journalists were murdered in 2012 despite relative calm in Mogadishu.

Deteriorating security, accompanied by a lack of justice, was also seen in Pakistan, where authorities have failed to prosecute a single suspect in the 23 journalist murders over the past decade.

In Brazil, where provincial reporters have proved especially vulnerable, the impunity rating has risen despite the government's stated commitment to justice.

Ten countries have appeared on the index every year since it was launched in 2008, highlighting the challenge of reversing entrenched impunity.

According to CPJ research, in Pakistan and the Philippines combined, at least nine witnesses and people connected to journalist murder investigations have been killed or died in suspicious circumstances in the past 10 years.

Simon said: "Governments that are committed to solving these cases must guarantee witness protection.

"A UN plan to combat deadly anti-press violence provides a pivotal opportunity for governments to take decisive steps to deliver justice."

A decade after the US-led invasion, Iraq remains the worst nation on CPJ's index, with more than 90 unresolved murders. CPJ found that journalist murders slowed there, as well as in Sri Lanka, Mexico and Afghanistan, but there are few successful prosecutions in any of these countries.

Colombia has had modest success in solving murders. Alarmingly, government and military officials are considered the leading suspects in 26% of murder cases on the index.

The index calculates unsolved journalist murders as a percentage of each country's population. It covers the period 1 January 2003 to 31 December 2012. Only nations with five or more unsolved cases are listed.

At the mention of anything positive about GEJ, they descend on you and call them names like LAPDOGS, 40 laptop crews, bigots, etc etc. But it seems the so caled oppositions on NairaLand are running out of steam lately.
