Eko Ile: Economic development and activities generatd by this road and single moves is set to generate needed revenue to build more roads and other social infrastructures, not the other way around. You need a catalyst to jump start and boost your economy and creat easy access for your goods and supplies. Arebgeshola obviously is playing this straight by the book.
This is public administration 101. Learn instead of dwelling on needless and ignorant criticism. Correct!! You nailed this. |

felifeli: I never as a rule insult people on NL threads but I will make this one a different case primarily because it involves a state in which I have a personal stake , and I am not here making excuses for an incompetent administrator or being a party apologist. I am extremely emotional about this single issue which concerns a state in which most of the roads in it are presently ill-maintained because there are no funds , yet a nutcase is making more capital commitments to building more of them. Charge toll ? What a laugh; we all know where such money eventually ends up.
Mr Gradbull I think your stupidity is extremely outstanding , only because I presently can't think of an insult that will not bring me down to your pedestrian level about knowledge of how infrastructure development works. Once again, you have made no sense. Some roads in Osun State are "ill-maintained", so you believe no new road should be built, even if they have the potential to be economically viable. You claim you know where money charged as tolls will eventually end up; pray, tell. I'm not surprised you are now throwing infantile insults. From your posts, I expected nothing more from you, hell, no one expected any more from you. We are discussing a road project that will benefit the State, and you come up telling us how there is an under-utilized rail, and Mr. Rauf should build train Stations instead (as if this does not cost money); next you tell us Mr. Governor should not build a new road, but should address "ill-maintained" roads because "there are no funds" (forgetting you asked him to build the above-mentioned train stations). Next thing, you are running your mouth about Tinubu collecting kick-backs. Bros, thank God for the internet, cos you would never have had the opportunity to express such ill-advised and ill-motivated statements, save for the cloak of anonymity. I can imagine you granting an interview to a newspaper (like that would ever happen), or appearing on TV, and saying the same crap. You can't cos you only made your accusations based on a discussion you heard from two market women while commuting in a bus. Guy, grow up, and don't post again till you actually have something to post. |

felifeli: *Sigh* Ignorance can never lack companionship. Road transport as the civilised world knows is the most inefficient, most expensive and the most environment unfriendly means of mass haulage available. As an engineer *sigh* , Engr. Aregbesola of all people should know that. A grossly underutilised rail track already links Oshogbo with Ibadan and Abeokuta and Lagos. If I were this one-track minded jester , I will create means for the towns in the state to link with this arterial rail line , establish rail stations along the route , even invest in some rolling stock if necessary. But otio , he must build road so that the party and Bros Tinubu (his campaign financier)can get kickback.Na wa for this man o. You are not even making sense!!! Road transport as the "civilised (sic)" world knows is the most blah, blah, blah. Why do they still build roads in the civilized world then? Someone travels to Abuja in his personal car, and is on his way back, should he park his car in Oshogbo and proceed to Lagos by rail? Guy, say something else. This road will serve as an alternative to the Lagos - Ibadan expressway, thereby saving commuters a lot of man-hours that would ordinarily have been lost. Osun State is a winner, because they can collect tolls on the road. Is it so difficult to understand? |

werepeLeri: Osun Strike: ASUP to protest plight of lecturers
OSOGBO—Lecturers in 67 polytechnics across the country have warned Osun State Government to meet the demands of their striking colleagues in the state-owned polytechnics or be prepared to face mass protest by the members.
Addressing newsmen yesterday on the plight of lecturers who had been on strike since May 24, the National Secretariat of Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics, ASUP, threatened to storm the streets of Osogbo, Osun State capital to protest poor condition of service of their colleagues.
The lecturers in the two institutions, as well as Colleges of Education in Ilesa and Ila-Orangun, had embarked on industrial strike over non-implementation of monetization salary, non-implementation of Consolidated Tertiary Institutions Salary Structure, CONTISS, and non-adoption of the new salary table (CONPCASS) approved for lecturers between 2003 and July 2009.
Other grouse of the lecturers include underfunding of state tertiary institutions by the government. The State Governor, Olagunsoye Oyinlola has been adamant in approving their demands on the ground that the government has no fund to implement them.
The Zone ‘C’ Coordinator of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) Engineer Gbenga Ekundayo said at the press conference that the National Executive Council of ASUP has directed that all lecturers in all Polytechnics in Nigeria would stage a walk round Osogbo, the State Capital in solidarity with their colleagues in the state tertiary institutions.
Ekundayo who said that Osun State Government has reduced lecturers in its tertiary institutions to second class citizens by not paying them the normal salary said that “if by next week, the governor refuses to open dialogue with the lecturers in the State Polytechnic and College of Technology, all the lecturers will come to Osogbo to stage a walk round the city in solidarity with our colleagues who have been on strike since May, 2010â€.
The ASUP coordinator who said that the lecturers were three salary regime behind their colleagues in other State Polytechnics said that the threat by the state government that lecturers would be sacked if they don’t sign attendance register in their respective institutions would not work in this regards.
According to him, “Our colleagues in Osun State Tertiary institutions have endured so much by not going on strike for the past seven years which the government has not paid them. The government should encourage them by paying them their normal salary. The threat that they would sack them if they don’t go back to work cannot workâ€.
Ekundayo said that Osun State Government should take a queue from Jigawa, Lagos and Ondo governments which have opened negotiation with ASUP on how to implement the salary in their respective state. Oh, I see u were talking about ASUP strike. ASUP is not the entire State. BTW, are they still on strike? |

Gbawe: I really don't understand how some cannot see how totally ridiculous they sound in the haste to criticise partisanly. The one thing ACN critics tend to have in common is senseless criticism that defies logic. On the thread below we see a chap saying a 6 lane road is a foorpath while ridiculously questioning the priority of a Government that , oddly, is addressing other areas of development this chap is not willing to admit to because his agenda of senseless criticism, rather than give credit when due, clouds his reasoning entirely.
https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-745652.0.html Footpath indeed!!! Some folks need professional help urgently. werepeLeri: Aregbesola has also promised to build an high speed rail line from Oshogbo to Abuja - this is a great man.
Does anyone know that this man's workers in the whole state has been on strike for the past four weeks? Are workers still on strike? Osun State has already approved N19,001 as the minimum wage, so confirm your assertion. Osun State government has taken the right step towards building the State, even after a distracting strike action. The new road = more IGR = more productivity. |

Eko Ile: Sadly, it's always the playing dumb routine come back about this and that go when they get called out for their foolish comments. This is not about me, this is about your goofy statements.
You said no economic or environmental impact was done. The fact is, you don't know if it was done or not, unless you are willing to tell us you are an insider and you have inside knowledge about the project or you are just another know nothing just running mouth based on his own ignorance which you obviously refused to answer for obvious reasons.
Bottom line, speak about what you know and keep the lies and ignorant talk to yourself and fellow sadists. Truly, I can't fathom how anyone can even imagine that no EIA was done before awarding a contract of this magnitude. A human being actually believes in his heart that there is no economic value in this project? Some people are never-do-well-s. In the words of IBB, it is idiotic for anyone to even consider that. Eko-Ile, I believe you should rather advise those making all the negative noise to talk to their own Governors to work, rather than displaying blatant envy for others. Some are busy singing "Lack of Federal Government presence", while others are doing exploits. Aregbesola has embarked on a project that will generate revenue for his State, and some can't even see that. A lot of travelers would prefer using this road to Lagos-Ibadan express because of the time saved. This will in turn generate tolls for Osun. It would also be wise to build transit parks towards the end of this road from Lagos, so that some travellers can stop over there for a rest, and spend some money on businesses in the State. I actually prefer a situation where the State even build a high-speed rail along the road, that could reduce travel time between Lagos and Osun, so that people can start commuting to work from Osun to Lagos on a daily basis. This action will decongest Lagos and Ogun, while spreading development to Osun State. |

Even if someone come here on Nairaland to claim Fashola violated their mother without any evidence that is not enough reason to badmouth the entire Igbo nation. What evidence do you have to prove that the poster is from Igbo? Just so you know, Fashola and all the governors i mentioned above are all human beings and they all are not perfect. During the last election i didnt vote for party or tribe, not even religion. I look at the individual critically and not the party or tribe he belong. Since when did Ribadu, Akume, Oshiomole, Ngige and Fashola become members of one ethnic group? I mean, this is the de-facto opposition party in Nigeria today, and their main aim is to deliver good governance through their various sphere of influence, as well as giving constructive criticism. Once again, we are seeing those actors who were quick to roll out the drums and engage in a macabre dance when Al-Mustapha told us he had "revelations" on tape concerning those who collaborated to "sell" MKO, take to the floor again. These same people were missing in action when the Al-Mustapha tapes turned out to be less weighty than an episode on Sesame street. You would have expected them to come out and apologize for insulting a whole race with such ethnic bile when their hero Al-Mustapha turned out to be a fraud; but no, these guys have no honor or dignity, so they won't.
On the issue of bullet-proof jeeps, why not wait till we have a more reliable source before we start commenting? I mean, what is gkrom? One Ghanamma posts on gkrom and some Nigerian starts criticizing Fashola.
That notwithstanding, even if it turns out to be true, we now need to ask - is it legal? Are the jeeps reasonably priced. Was the money sourced from the N200m monthly security vote which no Governor in Nigeria is required to account for? If it turns out that security vote was spent on security, does that make Fashola crooked. Also the critics can check online and give us the price of such custom made, bullet-proof Prado jeeps with bomb detectors and security cameras. Then we will know that they are serious minded critics and not just rabble-rousers. |

Bishop Oyedepo has written over sixty books with over 5 million copies printed as at 2008. How many have you written or sold? There are only two aircrafts, one in Lagos for the Bishop's use and the other in abuja for the vice (Bishop Abioye) and other associates, get your facts rights. And for a man who visited atleast two nations of Africa every week in the year 2009, preaching and planting churches and still ministers on sunday in Ota, you dont need a prophet to know he needs a jet ( Bearing in mind that flight to some Africa countries is once per week and no direct flight), Moreso, this jets has been used to carry ministry materials, free books and bibles to countries in Asia and Africa that needs them. Including others I dont know about.
You guys should just stop the beefing and get your facts right. Ministry has gone beyond ASSES, Even Jesus and His disciples used ships for crusade, read your bibles and dont be religious abt it,
I know after this some people will still attack me, so bring it on, But most especially, get a life, the man is a mentor to millions (including me, I was stuggling with sin, poverty, sickness etc b4 I came under his mentorship, today am a testimony, watch out), how many people have you inspired around you. Do some thing for urself and stop talking abt people for once.

Has the Pastor indoctrinated his members to the extent that they now go out and cause harm to innocent people? If not, his teachings do not harm non-members.
Do his members feel edified when they listen to him, or does he have a positive impact on their lives? The winners' guys I know claim they have been taught about prosperity and gained abundantly from such teachings. If so, he is doing something great.
Has one, even one, winners' chapel member complained about the jets? I haven't heard of that anywhere. Someone even claimed on this thread that there are no jets.
If this is the true position, then I see no reason why some are crying more than the bereaved.
Yes, I do not believe Christianity supports extravagance, but it does not give me the right to call an innocent man a thief. Some people are just plain uncouth. |

Wallie: I think the fuel subsidy should be removed generally and should only be given to the needy in form of monthly payments. Think of it as a welfare/safety net system, if you will.
However, it should only be given to people that file their taxes for the current year. For people having zero income, they should still be made to file their taxes declaring zero income. The payments should be graduated for people of different income brackets.
For example: Salary of NGN 0 – 36K should get 100% of the monthly subsidy payment Salary of NGN 36.01 – 60K should get 75% Salary of NGN 60.01 – 75K should get 25% Salary of NGN 100K plus should get 0%
This way, there is little to no benefit smuggling fuel into neighboring countries and also wasting money subsidizing fuel to the affluent. More taxes revenue will be generated by the government from people wanting State benefits, while making sure that the needy will not surfer. Your proposal is worthy of discourse. You might be on to something, |

The killings of Igbo people after the Nzeogwu coup had more to do with the humiliation your average Northerner felt after the killing of their prominent leaders by Igbo Army, after which Igbos in the North went out on the streets celebrating and mocking their death.
