European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Mourinho Hopes To Coach Man. Utd. by grabdbull(op): 12:14pm On Mar 31, 2010
Jose Mourinho will put his return to England on hold for at least a year - with Manchester United his top job target.

The latest bulletin on Mourinho's future was delivered exclusively to People Sport in Manchester this week - by Jorge Mendes, agent and chief confidant of the Inter Milan boss.

He said Mourinho will snub approaches from Liverpool and Manchester City this summer.

Mendes was in Manchester to conclude negotiations for a new contract for United star Nani.

And at a lunch with the Portuguese international to celebrate his new contract at a packed city centre restaurant, Mendes said: "Jose is going nowhere just yet.

"I think Jose will stay at Inter Milan for now. He still has three years left on his contract and he is okay in Italy and doing a good job for them.

"He enjoyed the result at Chelsea last week, he was happy with his tactics and he handled himself very well in both matches. I think people enjoyed having him back again for a few days and you saw his humour.

"You know Jose loves English football and I think English football loves him - but for now he has no thoughts about leaving Serie A.'' That will be a blow to City's billionaire Abu Dhabi owners who have been wavering about Roberto Mancini recently - and waiting for any sign that Mourinho is ready to quit Italian football.

A bigger blow for the City regime is that if he does come to Manchester in the future it won't be to Eastlands but Old Trafford. Mourinho wants to manage United when Sir Alex Ferguson quits - ahead of even Barcelona and Real Madrid.

PoliticsNigeria Confronts Pirates With Rusty Ammo by grabdbull(op): 12:07pm On Mar 31, 2010
This makes you wonder what has been happening to all the huge defense budget funds over the years.

By JON GAMBRELL, Associated Press Writer Jon Gambrell, Associated Press Writer – Tue Mar 30, 11:47 am ET

GULF OF GUINEA, Nigeria – The gleaming Nigerian naval patrol boat heaved across the rough waters of the Atlantic Ocean in search of pirates. Beyond the crisp white hull, however, crew members in cheap sandals manned machine guns whose ammunition had rusted in the chambers. And a computer-guided gun on the bow had no ammo at all.

This is the first line of defense against growing piracy off West Africa.

The patrol boat Burutu, which recently participated in a training exercise with the U.S. military, is part of a force that patrols Nigeria's 530 miles (853 kilometers) of coastline. But the navy appears overmatched as attacks on shipping continue and grow more violent, and militants resume strikes on oil platforms and pipelines.

The coastline of Africa's most populous country is a target-rich environment. Barges and other vessels belonging to energy companies crowd the waters off the Niger Delta, one of America's top sources of crude oil. At night off the megacity of Lagos, lights from scores of cargo ships twinkle like an archipelago as crews wait for weeks to unload at the city's busy, mismanaged port.

About 10 pirates on Thursday night boarded a Turkish-flagged freighter waiting to unload its cargo. They stole money, mobile telephones and computer gear, Turkish maritime authorities said. The crew apparently fought back and sent an alarm before the pirates clubbed them with Kalashnikov rifles and stabbed the captain. Two Turkish sailors and a Nigerian worker were injured.

"The Western African coast, especially around Nigeria, is a high risk area for piracy," said Cyrus Mody, a manager at the International Maritime Bureau, which tracks piracy worldwide. "It also one of the most violent places."

The bureau reported 28 attacks off Nigeria during 2009 and believes at least another 30 pirate attacks went unreported, either due to companies worried about having higher insurance premiums or concerns about advertising their security weaknesses, Mody said.

Attacks have occurred elsewhere along the Gulf of Guinea that Nigeria shares with more than a half-dozen other countries. On Saturday, armed pirates off Cameroon's coast near Nigeria kidnapped two sailors from a Ghanaian-flagged ship for ransom. In another attack in November near neighboring Benin by suspected Nigerian pirates, a Ukrainian sailor was shot dead. In other boardings, pirates stabbed and beat sailors, Mody said.

The former British protectorate's navy includes several large ocean-cruising craft and smaller patrol boats that can travel up the Niger River in the delta to look for those attacking oil pipelines and stealing crude oil. The U.S. imported more than 1 million barrels of Nigerian crude oil a day in December, making Nigeria America's third-biggest foreign source that month, so the U.S. has an interest in seeing the Nigerian navy improve.

The U.S. Navy has been training naval forces of West African nations to fight piracy, even though much of the world's attention remains focused on Somali pirates operating off East Africa.

Commodore David Nabaida, a spokesman for the Nigerian navy, said the navy will continue to patrol off of the Niger Delta and Lagos. He said it is difficult to protect the more than 200 ships anchored in Lagos and questioned whether freighters were actually being robbed.

"Maybe ships do deals and sell their products, then say they were attacked by pirates so they can divert attention from whatever crooked deals they have done," he said.

In a country permeated by corruption, it's perhaps not unusual that the commodore harbors such suspicions.

The corruption that permeates every level of government in Nigeria may hamper the anti-piracy efforts. A retired Navy rear admiral was recently indicted for allegedly embezzling government funds. Nigeria's elites often plunder the oil money that should be running and building up the country and some politicians even allegedly hire criminals and militants to help them rig elections.

The effectiveness of the Nigerian navy is also in question.

During the recent training exercise, the Burutu was motoring near the American frigate Samuel B. Roberts. The U.S. ship sounded a warning through its loudspeaker that the Nigerian vessel was on a collision course.

The warning continued even as the Nigerian patrol boat scraped along the side of the U.S. warship, creating an ear-piercing metallic squeal. One U.S. sailor cursed and threw a blue hard hat at the Nigerian sailors, who merely stared.

This man has truly suffered as a result of ill-health. I wish him total recovery. If truly he is now ok, it would be advisable for him to just retire so as to have time to rest, as the stress of heading a government can pummel even a very healthy man, talk less of one who has not been blessed with good health in recent times.
Get well, Mr. President, and please, for the sake of life, just retire.

Sad, sad tale. It shows that we have not got fundamental issues right in this Country. Everything seems to be done haphazardly. Haphazard animal husbandry, haphazard electronics distribution, haphazard compact disc distribution, haphazard drug distributions. There should be laws guiding how animals are reared all over the Country, and how they are transported. These laws should be enforced on the strength of a well developed transportation system. This will check the incessant encroachment on farmlands perpetrated by herdsmen. I mean, ranches are designated for the purpose of rearing cows all over the world. How can you come into my land in the name of being a nomad, destroy my crops and start killing as soon as I complain?

This is sick. Murderous lot, these politicians are. From East to West, North to South, the story is the same. Some believe in targeted assassinations, while others simply send out their thugs to massively destroy government properties, kill opponents copiously, and overheat the system. It's a recurring decimal in our political life from Anambra to Rivers, from Bayelsa to Ogun, From Oyo to Kano, from Bauchi to Enugu. It seems there is simply no solution in sight.

PoliticsRe: Cattle Dealers On Strike Starting Monday by grabdbull: 11:55pm On Mar 13, 2010
We have seen the effect of the strike - it has brought to our attention the sufferings of these cattle dealers, hence achieved its aim. Now, let those whose duty it is to protect the interest of the Nigerian farmer or businessman do the right thing by abolishing this multiple taxation. In addition, those that collect illegal fees on our roads ought to be prosecuted.
People, this agitation is a legitimate one and has nothing to do with regions. The farmer growing pepper in the North wants to sell it, and the owner of the truck needs to put his truck to work transporting these goods in order to feed his family. If the entire distribution process is so haphazard that people get extorted, the situation needs to be corrected, and corrected fast.
RomanceRe: Relationship In Its 8th Year But No Talk Of Marriage by grabdbull: 11:09pm On Mar 13, 2010
Most guys are not scared of commitment. Most just find it painful spending hard-earned money (probably slaved for over several years) on one ceremony where you probably would not see 90% of the guests ever in your life again. If a guy is made to see himself working with his fiancee as partners realistically saving towards what they both want, he would be more comfortable committing to marriage. On the other hand, if he sees the fiancee as a desperate pestering being, it just won't fly.
RomanceRe: Relationship In Its 8th Year But No Talk Of Marriage by grabdbull: 6:27pm On Mar 13, 2010
@ ibejiibeji,

I strongly believe you have got a hard-working, very good guy. Eight years with no talk of marriage is tough, but you need to really say what you want. Do you just want to get married now, or do you want to get married to the nice guy you described? What if he strongly believes he is not financially ready to throw a lavish party or provide for a family? I feel your pain. Maybe you can try this and see if it works: Tell him (once again) that you want to get married soon (this time, don't use the " we need to talk" attitude) while you are having dinner or something. Tell him you have a practical way of getting past the ceremony. Ask him for permission to draw up a plan which would give both of you some months of planning, while setting aside a certain amount each month towards the ceremony. Calculate what the cost might be for every aspect of the wedding. Let him see you as a partner planning towards your future, rather than a girl desperately in need of a show-off occasion which would constitute a drain-pipe to his resources.
Once you have a rough idea of what the cost will be, after determining the type of wedding you want, you can then help him save monthly towards the occasion. If you decide to end it on the other hand because he is not yet ready, I hope your hunger to get married will soon be satisfied by another. Then the whole process of knowing the new guy starts all over again.
I hope this helps.

cola:
hmmmm!

,
If there is any evidence I need that the perpetrators of the dastardly acts in Jos do not stand for Islaam, the kiling of women and children provided it.

Even in a state of all out war, Islaam prohibits the killing of women, children, non-combatants (whether men or women), animals and destruction of plant life.

,
I read many hate-filled verbal attacks on this thread, just like on many threads on this board. While I understand the background for those hate-filled verbose, I think it is better if it is directed at the people as a tribe or ethnic group, not at their religion.

The verbal attacks are actually many times unprovoked. If ever there was a truly religious crisis, it is such unwarranted verbal attacks and expressions of hate for a religion that's the cause.

Imagine a verbal attack on the religion of a short-tempered man on the street of Funtua, a reaction (most probably over-reaction) from a short tempered people, then a counter-reaction and it snowballs into a big crisis.

,
Cola, thank you for your perspective on this matter. I will still reiterate the need for religious leaders to inculcate the spirit of peace in their subjects from the get-go. Now, if you tell me that the killing of women and children shows that it was not a religious crisis, how do we then classify all the religious crisis in the north in which women and children were killed. History shows that those that carried out these attacks used to take the following approach: They usually gathered after friday Jumat service and started burning shops, houses, churches and schools of hapless, innocent, and perhaps, docile people. If there is anything that shows that these are non-combatants, it is the fact that they were fighting no one. What did the victims do in these cases? They ran to the barracks for succor, while mourning the loss of their Family members and properties. Mind you, the casualties included women, children and non-combatants in these cases. What of the suicide bombers abroad? Is the woman killed in a suicide bombing at a shopping mall a combatant? How then do you say it is unislamic to kill these ones?
You mentioned verbal provocation. Guy, even if I say disparaging things about you or what you stand for, it gives you no right to go out there and kill one thousand people because you believe they share a common faith with me. This clearly shows a deep-seated religious hatred fanned by the teachings of genocidal bigots.
You know it's unislamic, I feel it's unislamic, but do the jihadists know it is unislamic?

My point is: someone should let them know, if possible let it be a law that they are forced to imbibe respect for life from childhood.

See, i lived in the north too and I know the kinds of people the Fulanis are. If I was in the moon and I was told the Fulanis killed people, sincerely I wont doubt it at all.  . This thing has nothing to do with their religion. Its their nature. . Its what they have stucked up in their heads. A fulani man can kill a whole househld because of his cattle. That has nothing to do with religion. The churches they are burning and killings, that they do by their own accord. I persnally do not see the whle thing as religious, knowing the kinds of people the Fulanis are. If it was Muslims that were living in Berom, the fulanis will still do the same thing. . .

In all these, i fault the media too cos they are responsible for perception, orientation and views of the people about an event. And its true the Fulanis were killed like chickens the last time. . Goddd!!! i couldnt stand watching the CD when it was brought to my house back then in Adamawa. .  Either which way, i can preach the Qur'an to them from now till next year, they will still do what its in their hearts
Cool. Good to see you lived in the north too. It simply means you will agree with me when I say church burning and christian killings in the North always take place while the perpetrators continually shout Allahu Akbar!! If this statement is true, then you will also agree that this clearly shows religious undertones. Or is Boko Haram not a religious sect?
All said, we need to change the violent orientation of these people, for us to have a safer nation.

The situation in Jos is so sensitive, such that anyone who has a responsibility to enforce law and order, yet seems compromised, should be immediately dismissed and replaced. We cannot have soldiers siding with any group. That is totally unacceptable.
Arguing that the Army is not the only organization keeping the peace in Jos is quite laughable. The governor called the army cos he believed they would respond more efficiently than others, yet this same organization is now saying: na only us? You no see police, or navy, or even airforce? gov, make you call civil defence na, My people, this is totally ridiculous. What if the others say the same thing. My dear Nnenna,
Believe it when I say the ethnic aspect of the whole thing is as a result of the religious posturing over the years. Religion is the deep - rooted cause of this entire thing.
That is why I keep saying we should reach the masses through their religious leaders and show them that humans mean a lot more than cows. I can't imagine someone mourning the death of his cows and then putting the knife to another humans throat. For them, however, the killing of infidels is sacrosanct.

@ Javalove: I appreciate your contributions. You, however, have missed the point. To say the crisis is not religious is a lie. Did you check out the link in my post? One of the pictures shows a huge structure, something that was once a sacred place of worship, totally burnt to the ground. If the crisis is not religious, why was this church burnt? Every single crisis that occurs in the north always ends with churches being burnt, and you feel it is not religious in nature. This is a clear sign that there is a deep "need" and desire for these guys to burn churches and kill Christians. You probably grew up in the south, hence might not have suffered the abuse of indoctrination I am talking about, but up North here, it is the norm. Even you, will not be regarded as a true muslim if you come up here.
If we can stop this indoctrination from a tender age, we will be doing future Nigerians a great service. If we however, keep telling victims that it is unislamic to kill, instead of addressing the perpetrators, it is akin to burying our heads in the sand, while the killing Fun. goes on unabated.
Islamically, it is wrong, but to those that do these things, they are serving their god. I appreciate that your heart is heavy, but it shouldn't stop there. Southern muslims should do all within their power to positively influence their Northern brothers so that those of them that enjoy blood-letting will flee from their hell-bound evil ways.

If you need to see the burnt church, check out the link once again.

It is clear that those who are ecstatic in jubilation over these killings and still threaten "more to come" have the intrinsic propensity to commit murder. I also understand that it is not entirely their fault as they have been indoctrinated from a tender age that murder is "holy", as long as you murder "unbelievers". One practical way to start solving the problem is for our security apparatus in this country to start profiling religious leaders and analyzing what they preach all over the Country. This way, we can actually arrest those that instigate violence even before their message is put into effect by their followers, and they can be jailed appropriately.
In addition, we must make it compulsory in all primary and secondary schools; both conventional and otherwise, that the message "thou shall not kill" be preached once in every period of class.
Leaders like the beast who was responsible for this recent crisis should be tried in court and hanged publicly to serve as a deterrent to other wannabe killers.
The Hausa/Fulani have always been the ones initiating and propagating violence in Jos, with very little official response by security agents. If the poor Berom people had been suffering these attacks for donkey years, Nigeria should show that they are willing to protect them so as to forestall a situation where they form vigilante groups to carry out reprisal attacks.

Enough of this rubbish from religious leaders who preach that their god is so weak that he needs humans to kill for him and satisfy his blood - thirst. They are only lying against their god, as I am sure he can do his killing by himself
I end this post with a link to pictures that will clearly show the mayhem caused by these ones.
