Programming / Re: Share Your Road map To Becoming A Web Developer. by Grandlord: 8:18pm On Mar 27, 2020
Cakephp:
started from HTML (nd now we're here lol) which didn't take more than two weeks to master.

Next was CSS which lasted for about a month or so..

Next was Graphics Design for web development which did not take time.
I also learnt how to create 2D animations because I was really interested in designs .
Presently, we use CSS3 and JavaScript combination to create animations and transitional effects [/b].

Next, I took a break and started building websites to test my skills. Also I was a student throughout my learning years.
Within the period of one year I had deployed several websites for showoffs to impress friends lol
built portals where past questions was sold to jambites I was already making real money by this time(even though I was still learning).

Next, I ignored JavaScript(even though I already scratched a little bit of it) and delved straight into PHP which was very sweet.
By this time I was already building real life applications for people(free of charge, though I was also making small cash sha..).
I also scratched a little bit of Python, Java, et all but I later settled for PHP.

Next was database administration which was also very sweet.
Normalization and complex queries was scratched.

Next, I came back to JavaScript the love of my life which I took for granted lol.

And then finally, I scratched a little bit of android app development using the various JavaScript frameworks.

Nowadays we really work with frameworks though.
I like Cakephp lol and codeigniter.

I wouldn't want to write about the resources and materials I consulted during my learning years.
I have physical notebooks on those subjects.

Your roadmap wasn't really straightforward but it's a nice contribution nonetheless smiley

That's why brad is there. In learning web dev you don't only download the core tutorials but also what they call 'talk' videos. I have a folder full of them. I assumed anyone fully understanding what 'research' means wouldn't ignore a video by his teacher that says 'Guide to being a self taught developer 2020'
Videos like 'common mistakes made by programmers', 'things I wish I knew as a programmer' etc from techsith and DevEd are also useful
Now you're making sense cool

crownedrookie:
To answer topic I'd recommended videos to any one going into programming. For JavaScript I chose, this is what's working for me so far.
A combination of these five YouTube teachers.
The Net Ninja
Dev Ed
Brad Traversy
Techsith
Web dev simplified
Always start a new topic with The Net Ninja. Node Js, rest APIs, OOP, mongo dB, whatever, never start with Traversy. He is more thorough and deeper but less beginner friendly.
Always think of techsith when searching for explanation of concepts like the 'this' keyword, scopes and closures, async/await etc.
Check DevEd for an all-round additional knowledge on front and back end
Web dev simplified is magic with projects. Brad is too of course but web dev simplified doesn't overwhelm even beginners.
I can't stress enough the importance of books.
Here's some of the books you shouldn't miss for a JAVASCRIPT newbie.
1) Beginning JavaScript 5th edition
2) You don't know JS all five books of the series(keep for last)
3) JavaScript functions objects and arrays by Tony de Araujo.
Big NOTE!! In learning JavaScript from videos you will hardly be informed about the need for learning such things as the SOLID principle, algorithms and data structure. That's why you can't take research for granted
A book a recommend when going into data structure
1) A common sense guide to data structure and algorithms.
Dont be scared of the name, Algorithms is really all about being adept at manipulating arrays and object to make them into desired new outputs. Take time out to learn array and object methods and work on problems on freecodecamp.
Most of all important PUT IN THE WORK
Stay hungry never let failed vultures eat your dreams like carrion
Not really the answer the question was about as this is emphasizing on JavaScript and resources for learning it. Nonetheless helpful contribution to people who may need it.

Subsequent contributors should take note to outline just the roadmap for e.g say start from learning this to this and end with that.

Actually, I think I've found my answer with Brad's video on web development 2020.

Programming / Share Your Road map To Becoming A Web Developer. by Grandlord: 11:02am On Mar 27, 2020
So, for some of us who started out teaching ourselves programming, one of the major challenges is knowing and following a defined pathway to becoming a junior developer. We tend to get distracted and demotivated and also, timing the learning process is somehow difficult.

So, what was your learning path(roadmap) to becoming a web developer, an app developer or really, any field? Also, if you're self-taught, kindly share the structure and pathway you're following. Thanks.

Any machine learning model based on you
Excel too....

Guys let me know your thoughts.
Pandas and Matplotlib for me cool

Lastly in this thread.....u can den learn anyitany framework or language like python,node.js,Ruby,.net to corroborate the foundation you already have..
Its night here and am sleepy...
I will create another thread to appraise dis one for mobile app developers......
For any questions...just mention me.....
Newton was born out of a pandemic ( influenza) you too can be a better programmer during this corona virus pandemic....stay safe
Beautiful learning path you've outlined here OP. Nice work.

I'm however looking forward to the thread on mobile app development. Should I learn native or hybrid? Java or Kotlin?

Mixture of things, but mainly:
Write code to create software applications (mainly for windows), the system I work with is pretty established already so I’m not really creating anything big or exciting, I do more modifying than ’creating’ to be honest
General system testing
Documentation
Installation and integration testing
Some networking
Nice. What was your most memorable and exciting project?

two weeks ago in church, sat beside this fair girl; didn't look more than 20yrs of age to me. got bored and decided to do some things with my phone. she requested to see the phone almost immediately I brought it out because apparently, she liked the font and the look of the phone. after going through my gallery she dialed her number on my phone and saved mine on hers. she had even started requesting to come visit me that same Sunday of which I turned her down telling her I'm always busy from Sunday to Sunday

fast forward thirty minutes to an hour time when church had dismissed and I was chilling at home; a call came into my phone and it turned out to be this same girl. brethren in the lord, do you know the first thing/ question this girl asked me?

DO YOU LOVE ME?

I died

Let me share for sharing sake. In the year 2011, a girl that I don't know walked up to me in a lecture hall during my first year and told me to help her with Mathematics and the topic is PMI. When I was done teaching her, she wrote her number and drew a heart and placed it inside the middle of my textbook and told me not to open it untill she left. I later called her and she said "I see a future between us." I didn't see that future anyway because she was ugly as fvck. I never expected a girl to be that bold.
Bruvvvv.... I'm cracking up like a mad man. cheesy

Hey grandlord

How u coping with stats and math?

Which aspect of ds are doing?

How difficult is it and the learning curve?

Is it fun to learn?

What made you get interested? Do have math or stat deg

What are potential benefits of ds

Till we have more expert on board, you are still the grandlord of ds on nairaland grin

You don't have to ans all
Bruv thanks for putting me on a pedestal I've not yet attained. grin You do well o. I'm a green horn in programming and I'm still in a dilemma as to whether to go into web dev or data analytics. You can help me choose. Las las I go do both. The notable name in the DS field in this section is Ejio.d, I think. You can go check out his thread on data science.

Data science has a higher bar of entry compared to say, web development. A data scientist in most cases must have a PhD in Maths, statistics or related disciplines to be considered for employment.

Data visualization analysis on the other hand can be mastered in say, a year. Though candidates with a Bsc in STEM fields have a better chance at employment compared to self-taught individuals.

Data visualization is all about the representation of raw data in a way that clients can make sense of it. This discipline utilizes softwares like Tableau, Powerbi, D3, advanced Excel as well as programming languages like python and R in the creation of interactive dashboards which present data in a way it can easily be analysed and inferred from.

DS and visualization has a steep learning curve. You must love the numbers. You live and die and communicate with numbers every day. So if you do love the numbers, it can be real fun. To build your portfolio, go on Kaggledotcom and solve data challenges and also enroll in data analytics competitions. Do a lot of data projects and build creative models and techniques.

I think a DS expertise can land you a six figure salary anually(dollars o) and Data scientists and analysts are sought after all over the world. With the advent of Big data, machine learning, and AI, data is the future. It ain't going away anytime soon. Boom!

Don't know if it's because of the technical jargons I used. Lol.

honesty when it comes to design i am zero at it i know css and css3 atleast am not a beginner but to been creative with good design skills i just lack it but if you work as a frontend developer you will be working with a product designer so all you just have to do is conver what the designer has done to code but you know some broke ass tech companies in nigeria will want you to have both skills as for me i feel more joy working at the backend
Backend is cool but you need to know some frontend as well.
