That is just it. African entrepreneurs need angel financiers. We need people that will be willing to invest massively in our ideas. But I can authoritatively tell you that web and mobile app developers in Africa especially in Nigeria are not sleeping. Most of us are quietly getting ready to offer a game-changing, ground-breaking and out-of-the-box products to the African IT landscape. Guys are quietly, but steadily getting ready to unleash the genius in them. The finance will come when we are ready. |
Wow. My brother, it doesnt work like that. There is no quick step by step for creating and managing a website that u can easily grab in this thread here and now. The steps are not like: 1. Open a notepad. 2. Type something. 3. Save it with .html 4. Open filezila and upload. 5. Now you have a website. No! For you to quickly learn something and been able to design a website immediately, u wil hav to learn and practice hard and fast too. There are three options available for u: 1. Quit the job and tell them u lack knowledge of what your position requires. 2. Go to http://www.html.net and start learning and practicing immediately. 3. Get someone to teach you webdesign for 2 to 4 weeks. Option 1 may not be ok for you. Option 2 is good but u may find it difficult getting ur foot on the ground fast. Option 3 is the best, but it wil take u some bucks. Here is my advice: Choose options 2 and 3 and I can tell u that in one month, u wil be able to design a good html/css website. Talking about managing the site, u wil be doing it from the raw html for now. Unless the option 3 person wil also teach u how to customize wordpress templates. You can download this book as a gift from me to you and read, learn and practice. It's 857 pages. It will teach you everything about html and css. Goodluck. http://www.ctrlshiftstudios.com/HTML-and-CSS-The-Complete-Reference-5th-ed-T-Powell-McGraw-Hill-2010.pdf |
There is nothing like using website grabber or whatever. Just do Ctrl U when the website has opened. You will automatically see the html code. Just copy it. Then click on slider.css in the head to open it and copy the codes also. Then click on the jquery.slider-min.js in the head to open it and copy the codes. Make sure this jquery external link: http://code.jquery.com/jquery-1.7.1.min.js is in the head. |
I guess you are new here. Why are you recreating your thread? Go here: https://www.nairaland.com/1399420/learning-web-design-37 |
You are 16 years old. You dont know where your dad is. You live with your mum and she struggles to cater for you. You have no relation at all. You need a laptop because you said you want be a worldclass programmer. All your posts so far were done in Advert and Phone sections and none in Webmasters and Programming sections. Here is one of your comment in a certain thread in Advert section: WHeeZyBoyi:You don't have someone to help you. You are 16 years old. And you are making inquiries about ordering two samsung galaxy s4 mini from abroad and ship them with DHL. You are 16 years old and you have no money to buy a laptop. And you are asking about whether the payment is with Naira MasterCard. Look, it's either you face your future with diligence, hardwork and sincerity or you destroy it by trying to scam people. The choice is yours. |
You just registered 3 days ago and the only thread you can quickly open is a thread of asking for financial assistance to buy a laptop. Look, it doesn't work like that. You said you graduted from secondary school two years ago. What have you learned for the past two years about programming? Can you write a simple html line of code? You should because I can see you have a phone that can browse. You should have been reading some tutorials with your phone. You should also have even gone to cyber cafe at least once in a week and learn tutorials. So what exactly have you been doing all these two years? Again, have you discussed with your mum about this? Did she tell you that you don't have any relation both maternally and paternally? Have you discussed this with your church pastor or the head of any religion you belong to? You don't start learning programming by just owning a laptop. You need to tell us how far you have gone in your interest to become a programmer. I wanted you to say that you used to go to cyber cafe to learn and that you have learned this or that and that you don't have money again to pay for cyber cafe browsing time. |
Is this what you want: http://www.ctrlshiftstudios.com/slider If it is, then copy the codes as they are and paste in your work. Change the images to your preferred images. You can even go and on to add as many images as you want. The slider is in fade effect. |
At 37 years, you can still become what you want to be. Greatness is locked in you. It's only you that can unlock it. If you begin now, in the next 3 years or less, you should be able to be one of the African web developers. If you give this your time, you will be amazed how far you will see yourself. You must start now, not tomorrow. Start learning immediately. Start practicing immediately. You should have at least internet connection. So head straight to: http://www.html.net and learn their tutorials on HTML, CSS, JAVASCRIPT and PHP. They discussed these languages very well. Download notepad++ at: http://www.notepad-plus-plus.org. This is a wonderful and powerful text editor for Windows. Download it, install it and use it to learn and practice. If you have good internet connection and you like learning with videos, then watch these wonderful more than 30 videos on html and css titled "30 days to learn html and css" by Jeffrey Ways of http://www.net.tutsplus.com. You can get the videos free at their site: http://freecourses.tutsplus.com/30-days-to-learn-html-and-css. You can even go on to watch more videos on practically any programming language free of charge at: http://www.thenewboston.org. If you like reading ebooks, then go to: http://www.it-ebooks.info and download practically any ebook on any web development language or technology for free. Remember to practice a lot as you learn. By so doing, you will become a guru in no distant time. You can also occasionally or always visit: http://www.alistapart.com and read articles and tutorials on some trends going on in this industry. Goodluck in your future web design career. |

Your codes are just messy and unprofessional. There are lots of css mark-up that are not in your html mark-up. Like class of .grid_9 is not in your html. There are lots of basics of css you did not get. For instance in your nav ul, you set it to display block, but ul is block element already by default. You set the body background image to repeat. CSS background image is repeated by default. In your nav, you wrote, bottom:24px; right:0. How can you set right and bottom properties to a static element? How did you save your logo? Did you use 'save for web and devices?' I doubt. It seems you used normal save as, then in png format. It's wrong. Your logo size is 58.7KB. Just a tiny logo. I resaved it using save for web and devices and got at 6.67KB. In your wrapper, you did margin: 0 auto. Then you went on to write, margin-top:30px; margin-bottom:20px; You should have just write, margin:30px auto 20px; Then you added, height:auto. There is no need. The height of div is automatic by default. You can only write height:auto when you want to overwrite previously defined height. If you try to resize the browser, you will see that something like white background is covering the three circle images. And you can see that both horizontal and vertical bars are not showing as you resize the broswer. Do you know why? You gave your body and wrapper div an overflow of hidden. Please mind you, overflow: hidden is very dangerous. It should be used with caution or it will cause you lots of problems. There is no need using it in this case. You should have just cleared your floated elements and you will be good to go. Talking about clearing floated elements, you floated your logo left and then added clear:both to the same logo. This is wrong. You cannot float something and use it to clear itself again. It's like writing something with pencil and then applying eraser on it why showing it to someone. It will clear off. The reason why the logo didn't ignore the float left command since you also cleared it is because by default, html elements are positioned at the left. As the website is now, the logo and nav are not cleared. And it is causing a problem which overflow hidden in the wrapper solved, and then created another problem. Which problem? When you resize your browser, immediately the browser becomes smaller than the wrapper, the overflow hidden will force the wrapper to hide it's contents from the viewer. To solve this, just remove the overflow hidden in the body and wrapper and create an empty div immediately after nav tag in your html. Then simply go to css and set that empty div to clear:both. There are lots of things wrong with your codes, which I dont have time to point out comprehensively. For instance, why will you set a div, which is a block level element to display:inline, yet you floated it left? You did this in the class of .grid_3. Since you floated it left, which will force the divs to be in one line, why displaying it inline again? If you dont want to float and you want the div to be in one line, then you will just display it inline-block. Instead of using base 64 data image, why not use a simple png images for the three circles? Again, a website as simple as this must be responsive. These are things you should have tidied up before posting it here. Again, please make your code to be neat. Dont add the codes that are not important. Like all those reset. Again, you used body tag into two places in your css. What's the point? You set one of the line-height of the body to 1. what is 1? You gave margin of 0 to one of the body, but your reset has stated at the very top that body and all other stuff should have margin of 0. The three icons may be better in white color. The ash color is too dull on those colors. Why writing 'Webdesign is our hobby and coding frameworks is our passion' twice? Again, the write-up should have be written simply as text in the html. The text will look sharper and clearer. Again, I don't see anything professional in telling a client that web design is your hobby. Check this: http://www.ctrlshiftstudios.com/net This is how I may have done it if I were you. Just try to resize your browser to the last width and see. You can always use: http://mobiletest.me to check and see how your website will look in mobile devices. Goodluck. |
So what exactly is this woman driving at? Let me guess. 1. She is a Christian and really love the Lord and in order to keep reminding people that Jesus Christ is the Messiah, she named her son messiah so that as people call his name, they will somehow remember Jesus Christ who is the true and only Messiah. 2. She is a 'Christian' who thinks that Jesus' Messiahship is overrated and so she wanted to prove to people that she doesn't care and that she can as well name her son 'messiah.' 3. She is not a Christian and so she thinks that it's foolishness to allow only Jesus Christ to be addressed as messiah and so she decided to name her son, messiah. If number 1 guess is true, then I think she should not bother appealing the ruling. Let her name her son something like: 'Messiah is King' or 'My Messiah Lives'. Although I am afraid that such names are too long and looks weird and they are in fact my literal translation of some Igbo names to English. Maybe she should name her son, 'Salvation' or 'Joshua.' If number 2 and 3 guesses are true, then she should know that it does not matter what she thinks or anybody for that matter thinks. Jesus Christ remains the only and true Messiah of mankind. The ruling of the judge did not even give solidarity to His Messiahship. He doesn't need any solidarity. He is still the only Saviour whether a judge rules in favour or against. This US mother should know that Jesus Christ is not struggling to be recognized. He rules the kingdoms of men. He holds the destiny of every human being. He will ultimately decide the eternal destiny of each of us both the living and the dead. There is no other option. It's either you find Life through He who is the Resurrection and the Life or you find damnation by ignoring Him. But since the mother said she only named her baby messiah just because the way the name sounds with the names of her two other children, I will also encourage her not to bother appealing the ruling. How can she name her baby a name simply because of the way the name sounds. If the names of her two other children are: Devis and Dennis, would she have named her baby, Devilish? I must pause to salute the courage of this US judge for this landmark judgement. If a ruling like this can still come from US that is quickly abandoning God, then indeed there are still Americans who have not bowed to baals of this world. If this historic judgement can still come out from US whose President is campaigning for gay right all over the world and whose some of the citizens have started campaigning for pedophile right, then I believe there is hope and indeed God is working out His purpose as year succeeds to year and by the mouth of many messengers goes forth the voice of God. God has spoken through this US judge. |
A judge in the US has ordered a baby's first name to be changed from Messiah to Martin, arguing that the only true messiah is Jesus Christ, reports say.http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-23665106 |
They endured the challenges of Nigeria university education. Their parents laboured and in some cases cried while trying to pay their school fees. They went through numerous ASUU strikes and finally graduated. Now, they were about to serve their beloved country. But this boy said no. He sent them to their death in a gruesome manner. Why will a boy who is committing fornication with a girl think of fidelity? Why did he think that since he's not faithful to God with his body that this girl will be faithful to him with her body? For God's sake, they were not married. They were simply playing a game with their lives. Which means that any of them can easily sleep around with other men and women. Then why punish her like this as if she was your wife? Even if she was your wife, why take another person's life? This boy threw his back on God by living an immoral life. Now he wanted his girlfriend to obey him and remain faithful to him by not going out with another man. As I write this right now, Amarachi Okey Winifred is dead and dead forever. It's unfortunate how young people waste their lives these days. |
It's not true. Up to 98% doesn't know that Google is the fastest website. I think it opens in less than 5 seconds. The only people that know this is probably web developers. Here is what is true. Most people in Nigeria and indeed in the world type in a confusing word everyday in google to make sure the spelling is correct. As for me, I use Nairaland to gauge internet speed. Any time NL is delaying to load and open, I will know that something is wrong. The speed of NL is actually very impressive. And when I resolve my internet connection, NL will always be the first among all the websites on my browser tabs to open, even when I refresh it last. |
laivwire: Im not against altar calls but Im curious about the 'you must step forward' part. Cant you give your life in your room personally? I'm a practicing born again christian but I need some clarification on this. ThanksActually, it's not a must you must answer an altar call before you can receive God's free gift of salvation that comes through faith in Christ Jesus alone. When a preacher is asking you to come and answer an altar call, he's trying to persuade you. He's appealing to you to take a public step of faith. Yet, even if one refuses to step forward and quietly and genuinely asks God to forgive him and receives Christ into his life, the person is as born again as the people that genuinely stepped forward and asked for the same forgiveness. God sees our hearts. This is what every mature preacher knows. |
murphyrichy: @ O.P do I hear you say ur pregnant girlfriend. I thought you are female.Even if she is a female, does that mean she can't have a pregnant girlfriend? It may be her female friend who is married. |
She can name her child Jesus. Actually, Jesus and Joshua mean the same thing. Jesus is the Greek word for "God saves", while Joshua is the Hebrew word. But she should not add Christ to the name. There are many people that bear Jesus, which is not bad at all. But there is only one Christ. Jesus Christ! He's the Only Anointed One. He anoints others. So she should not name her child Christ. The word "Christ" comes from the Greek translation of the Hebrew Messiah, which means "anointed". It became the name proper to Jesus ONLY because He accomplished PERFECTLY the divine mission that "Christ" signifies. |
Ok. I dont know why this client just decided to terminate the project with you and move to another host. My advice is that since he paid some amount, you can just release the website to him and keep the initial payment as the payment for the half you have done already. I think he's not insisting that you also give him the advance he paid. Again, you can still complete the project and allow him to choose any host he wants and help him move to that host. Again, you said he paid paltry sum. Wow. Before I touch my notepad, a client must pay me 75% of the total charge. When the work is done, and he's satisfied, then he will pay the 25% balance. |
flexpro: @Graphicplus, does a website like nairaland need ssl integration??As you can see, NL is not using ssl certificate. But that does not mean the database is not highly secured. |
I have been using Siteground and StableHost for years now and they are just what I need. Like @Yawa said, there is no much integration. You just pay and the host company will integrate it for you. It's like a package. Now, not every website uses ssl certificate and indeed not every website needs it. You use ssl certificate basically when the website has to do with online payments (like paypal and amazon). Beside online payments, one can use ssl certificate on a website if the company is a big company and the website has something to do with confidential personal data (like google, twitter and facebook). You can't just put ssl in a basic static website. It's of no use and the cost will eventually weigh the person down (ssl is roughly between 60 USD and 800 USD per year depends on the vendor). Again, some host companies don't allow ssl certificate for a website on a shared hosting. |
Lovetinz: Your ignorance of the implications of the government snooping on you is astounding!Pls sir list the implications for me. |
curiouslad: @graphicplusIt could not have been made public or the purpose will be of no use because terrorists will then find another way of passing information information to each other. Do you know how much information every government receives from secret security agents? There are classified information that should not be made public. Believe me, NSA has absolutely nothing to do with your communication data if it has nothing to do with terrorism activities. |
ghettodreamz: Lol @ Aptech, India... NOT, all Aptech centres in India are worth the pains and hassle bro...Am talking about Aptech and NIIT headquarters in New Delhi. |
No, Snowden is not a hero. He deliberately took the job to get inside how NSA operates. He took an oath of secrecy. When he found out about the project, he should have raised alarm within the company and offer suggestions. NSA is not operating illegally. The project has the backing of US legislative assembly. If US knows that I sent a love or romantic email to my partner, what will they do with it? Will they come and arrest me? If they know that I send email to my friends asking them not to vote for a certain presidential candidate, will US government prosecute me? Not at all. But what if they intercept an email from me that gives details to a fellow on how to bomb White House? This is where I will be in trouble with US. So I dont see what Snowden has achieved in blowing the whistle. I hope you know that MTN and other telecommunication companies have copies of all the text messages and calls you have made? The US plan to sniff communication data is not targeted to innocent citizens. If your data is just about everyday communication between friends, couple, family, business partners and colleagues, they have nothing against you. But if it's about terrorism, it will now help them to track down the terrorists. |
