EventsHearty Birthday Wishes To Hon. Mrs Njideka Oraedum by grassrootsig(op): 2:53pm On Aug 25, 2022
Madam Njideka Florence Oraedum, because you're the person who is always there for others. You feel a lot. You have depths within you, an ocean for a heart, and you sometimes fall for people who are too afraid to swim. You give and you give and you give. You never know how to stop yourself from pouring into those you love.
There are moments where we are left wondering if someone will ever give you the love you so freely give to others, moments where we wonder if there will ever come a time when someone asks how you are doing, and how you are coping.

Because you are the person who is always there for everyone else, you also needs someone to be there for you. Being a person who encourages everyone around you, you needs to be told that you are appreciated, that you matters, you need to be encouraged.
Because you're the person who is always there for others, we want to let you know that your heart is rare. Know that you hold within you an ability to calm storms in people. Know that you give people hope, that you inspire them by acknowledging the pieces of them most people ignore, that you make people feel wanted, that you make people feel like they have purpose.
We want to remind you that you deserve to take all of the energy you put out into the world and invest it back into yourself from time to time. We want to let you know that you are worthy of all the love you have been giving to everyone else.

The Truth, Justice and Peace Commission was recently inaugurated by the Governor of Anambra State, Prof Chukwuma Soludo, and the formal swearing in ceremony of the members has just been effected.

The Commission , amongst other issues is charged to identify and investigate the causes of agitations, violence, restiveness and struggle in the South East in addition to identifying groups and stakeholders who have played critical roles in these conflicts, as well as a more detailed investigation to decipher violence as a result of genuine separatist agitations from random acts of criminality and brutality.

The Commission is also tasked with documenting victims, the circumstances of their death, reports of brutality both by security agents and militia, incarceration as well as well as incidents of persons, perhaps kidnapped or otherwise, who have simply vanished without a trace.

In line with this agenda, The commission has called for memoranda from the general public on ways to address perceived agitations in the South East.

Nairaland GeneralGov. Soludo Meets With Market And Transport Union Excos In Anambra State by grassrootsig(op): 11:55am On Jul 02, 2022
SOLUDO MEETS WITH TRANSPORT AND MARKET UNION EXECUTIVE MEMBERS, ABOLISHES COLLECTION OF GOVERNMENT REVENUE BY PROXY

Government of Anambra State will commence implementation of a new tax and levy regime in Anambra markets, roads and parks as from July 1, 2022.

Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo gave the disclosure at a one day town hall meeting held at Women's Development Center, Awka with Transport and Market Union Executive Members in Anambra State.

Governor Soludo warned anyone posing as a government revenue collector in any part of the state, to desist forthwith or face the full wrath of the law, as his administration is making frantic efforts to stop leakages of government revenue which usually end up in private pockets.

Governor Soludo said Anambra is an alpha state, he expressed optimism that in line with his campaign promises, the state will be peaceful, liveable and prosperous.

The Governor emphasized that Anambra should ideally be a reference point in all ramifications as one of the developed States within the federation

Governor Soludo further pointed out that the new tax regime has become imperative as the era of revenue generation through the sale of crude oil is gradually phasing out. He revealed that since February this year, no remittance had been done from the NNPC into the federation account as money acruable from the sale of crude oil is gradually dwindling

He stressed however that henceforth, public parks owned by the government will be directly managed by government, directing that caretaker committee members in Anambra markets are forbidden from collecting revenue on behalf of government.

The Governor pleaded with those who will be affected by the new system to consider the larger picture of making Anambra succeed for the greater good of the people. He however quickly offered to provide alternatives for them.

Governor Soludo called on the different unions to mobilize their members for action, stating that his administration will not hesitate to enforce the new directive for the general well-being of the state economy.

According to the Commissioner for Transportation, Barrister Pat Igwebuike, who also addressed the gathering, said Governor Soludo is committed to the cause of road transporters. She asked them to join hands with the Soludo government to salvage the already battered system which has gross adverse effects on the state economy. She called on the members of the Union who have not acquired their identification, to do so as quickly as possible

For the Commissioner for Homeland Affairs, Chief Chikodi Anarah, said Anambra used to be the pride of place for business operators, every day of the week, but decried the low turnout and patronage which has characterized 'Mondays' due to the Sit at home syndrome. He said this unfortunate development is making business owners to relocate their businesses to neighbouring states.

Chairman of Anambra State Internal Revenue Service, Mr. Richard Madiebo explained that the present administration has designed the revenue framework in such a way that people can now pay their taxes and levies seamlessly as well as eliminate multiple taxation.

Mr. Madiebo further said that all taxes and levies payers in the state will be issued with a digital Identification. He disclosed that commercial vehicle operators who make daily payment, will not be charged to pay anymore in any public park, adding that five percent of the revenue generated by any union, will be given to them to manage the respective business places.

Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Uche Okafor, Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon. Paschal Agbodike, Secretary to the State Government, Professor Solo Chukwulobelu, Chief of Staff to the Governor, Mr. Ernest Ezeajughi, and an array of market leaders attended the function which featured question, answer and contribution session.

GOV SOLUDO COMMISSIONS REHABILITATED AMANSEA-UGWUOBA OLD ROAD AMIDST JUBILATION AND ENCOMIUMS

By Bona Ogbonna

Earlier today, the executive governor of Anambra State, Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo was in Amansea where he commissioned the rehabilitated 500 metres Amansea-Ugwuoba Old Road undertaken by his administration.

Speaking at a simple event organized to mark the opening of the newly reconstructed road to the road users, Prof. Soludo stated that his administration right from Inauguration day declared "state of emergency" on Anambra roads which are fast falling apart. He maintained that the deplorable portion of the Amansea-Ugwuoba road which spans about 500 metres, as well as it's strategic location as the gate-way into Anambra State from Enugu, spurred him to take up its reconstruction immediately after his swearing-in as the governor.

The governor said that the rehabilitation of the road was financed through the state government's savings from supposed one month expenditure on facility management which was initially budgeted at N137 Million every month. To the admiration of everyone present, the governor asserted that some part of about N126 Million made in savings from the government's expenditure on facility management for one month, was used to fix the death-trap Amansea-Ugwuoba Old Road, stressing that the remaining part of the money would be used judiciously for road rehabilitation in the state.

The governor reiterated the readiness of his administration in championing the noble course of development in the state, cutting cost where necessary.

Some of the dignitaries who joined the governor in the commissioning of the road were the Member representing Nnewi North, Nnewi South and Ekwusigo Federal Constituency, Rt. Hon. Chris Azubogu; the Honourable Commissioner for Works, Anambra State, Hon. Ifeanyi Okoma; some of the traditional rulers of Anambra North extraction, members of the Hausa Community in Amansea, amongst others.

Nairaland GeneralAnambra State Govt. Ban Open & Indiscriminate Waste Disposal. by grassrootsig(op): 8:26pm On Jun 22, 2022
BAN ON OPEN, INDISCRIMINATE WASTE DISPOSAL.

By Bona Ogbonna

Anambra State is set to have a new waste management. For starters, the government has banned open and indiscriminate disposal of waste in the state. The act of dumping waste on ill-assorted dumpsites on the streets now belongs to the past. The new deal is to put all household wastes in a bag which is placed on the frontage of the house for collection by contracted service providers who are charged with evacuating the wastes in all the constituencies of the state.

This new approach will urgently tackle the problem of having unattended garbage sites, heavy with stench and the concomitant diseases. It does not make any sense whatsoever to allow waste to accumulate on the roadside before clearing it. The advanced way is to deal with the waste house-by-house with the support of the service providers.

Some 31 service providers will lead the charge of promptly evacuating the wastes across Anambra State. The well-drilled service providers are armed with basic waste collection and evacuation equipment including trucks, pail loaders, compactors, evacuators and swing-arm, etc. The service providers will offer Anambra State the requisite duty with a verified minimum of three months’ working capital and at least three years of waste collection experience.

It is incumbent on everybody who lives in Anambra State to abide by the new waste disposal arrangement. Procuring nylon bags for packing the garbage is the first duty. It would not take much of an effort to place the waste bag on the frontage of the house or compound. After doing this, it becomes the responsibility of the service provider to evacuate the waste.

Infringement of the arranged process will of course attract penalties. The government will frown at anybody flinging waste indiscriminately across the streets or highways from their vehicles. It used to be the case that people formerly would not even bother to package the wastes properly at the dumpsites creating eyesores of wastes all over the place. It is said that when wrongdoing is not addressed for a long time it tends to become a tradition. Poor waste disposal has had its day in the state and must necessarily come to an end.

The ban on open and indiscriminate disposal of waste is in tune with Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo’s insistence on cleanliness across board in all the affairs of the state. Having clean homes and streets will enhance the Clean and Green Revolution that he has inaugurated in Anambra State.

Being clean ought to start from the home. It is in the same manner that parents ought to start the training of the children from home before sending them to school. When the young ones are made to abide by the rules of cleanliness at home there is no doubt whatsoever that they would ever encourage dirt and slovenliness in the wider public. When young and old people embrace and practice clean habits disease takes a walk from the lives of the people.

Now that the rainy season has come, there would no longer be the unsightly domains of rain-beaten and stinking dumpsites on major streets and corners. Taking away the wastes from the doorsteps of Ndi-Anambra is obviously the right way to go. It ensures that minors who may not be properly groomed in the proper way to dispose waste are not allowed to become a menace while disposing refuse in public places. A child burdened with taking refuse to a public refuse bin in the street will of course do it without the necessary attention to proper handling. But if such a child is charged with packing the refuse into a polythene bag to be placed in front of the house he or she cannot afford to make any mistake because this can easily be seen and promptly corrected by the parents or guardians.

The seamless approach to waste management by the public and private sector has always been practised in more advanced societies. It is not the modern way asking families to travel long distances to dispose of their accumulated wastes. Through the use of the service providers, the waste is never allowed to accumulate before it is disposed of according to the rules made by the government because targets are set. Any family or service provider failing in his duties will of course will be appropriately sanctioned.

Enforcement of the sanctions is crucial to putting in place a clean environment all over Anambra State. It is expected that the people will obey the rules, and the service providers will ensure adequate professionalism in the discharge of their duties. Like the Nitrogen Cycle, all the crucial linkages must be effective for Anambra State to have a clean environment to be cherished by all.

Nairaland GeneralDollar Value Of Peter Obi’s Investment For Anambra In Sabmiller Clarified by grassrootsig(op): 7:27pm On Jun 21, 2022
DOLLAR VALUE OF PETER OBI’s INVESTMENT FOR ANAMBRA IS NOW ABOUT US$3.7million OR US$5.3 million depending on exchange rate.

By Bona Ogbonna

Given the repeated fake news about the current dollar value of the investment by the Peter Obi administration in SABMiller, it has become imperative to clarify the matter in public interest.

The Peter Obi Administration invested the sum of N1,955,535,247.00 (equivalent of approximately US$12,616,356.43 at the then average CBN exchange rate of N155.00/$1.00) in Intafact Beverages Limited, a green-field brewery being set up in Onitsha by SABMiller Breweries of South Africa in 2012. The Naira equivalent of this investment is stated and carried in the Reports of the State Accountant General with the Financial Statements for the fiscal years ended 31st
December since then. These are public documents.

Intafact Beverages was subsequently consolidated into International Breweries Plc when the parent company, SABMiller of South Africa was acquired by Anheuser-Busch InBev (AB InBev), the world's largest brewer. Based on this development, AB InBev
consolidated and merged all its brewery operations in Nigeria under International Breweries Plc and all shareholders of Intafact Beverages Limited, including Anambra State Government (ANSG), received shares of
International Breweries Plc for their respective investments.

ANSG received and still holds 407,321,264 ordinary shares of International Breweries Plc in exchange for its investment in Intafact Beverages Limited . Based on the NGX closing price of N5.50 as at 20/6/22, these shares were valued at N2,240,266,952 on
that date. Based on the Central Bank of Nigeria I&E exchange rate of N415.75/US$1.00 on same June 20, 2022, this investment was valued at an equivalent of approximately US$5,388,495.37 (and at N604/$1.00 parallel market rate, only US$3,709,051.24).

We do not want to join issues with the purveyors of the fake news but only need to state the facts to inform the public.

Thank you.

A mass which was held in honour of the Late Chiegboka took place at St Paul's Outstation, Isuofia, and was celebrated by the Catholic Bishop of Ekwulobia, Most Reverend Peter Okpalaeke.

Governor Soludo who revealed that criminals who held parts of the state hostage especially in the South Senatorial zone are gradually being rounded up, asked the people to partner his government by volunteering timely information through the numbers released to the public for such purpose.

The Governor also stressed that the duo of Hon. Okoye and Mr. Chiegboka as well as others who paid the ultimate price will not die in vain.

He called on the church to resist the ascendancy of idolatry practice which is evidently gaining ground across communities in the state.

Soludo said that findings reveal that youths are being indoctrinated into idol worship and sworn to oath before such idols, which influences them into criminal activities.

The Governor consoled the Chiegboka family and the entire Isuofia Community, expressing optimism that in no distant time, the criminals will be fully routed out and Anambra State will witness peace and tranquillity again

In his homily, Bishop Okpalaeke who proclaimed the judgement of God upon the perpetrators said that the Late Chiegboka was a well known man that excelled in many engagements.

The remains of the late Cyril Chiegboka was later committed to mother earth

GOV. SOLUDO KICKS OFF THE 2022 FARMING SEASON IN ANAMBRA STATE.

By Bona Ogbonna

The official launch of the 2022 Farming Season by the Governor of Anambra State, Professor Charles Chukwuma Soludo on Wednesday, June 15, at Ekwueme Square, Awka serves the purpose of pitching agriculture as a pivotal contributor to the state’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
From the early days, subsistence farming had been the driving force of the people’s agricultural needs. The mechanization of farming over the years has grandly improved the stake of agriculture and the food value chain of the state that takes honours as “the light of the nation.”
The bold strides of Anambra State in the field of agriculture is showcased through the flagging-off of the 2022 farming season. The farmers take pride of place in the sustainable development of the homeland and the general improvement of the social well-being of the people.
The drive to boost food production is at the very heart of Governor Soludo's mandate in Anambra State. The great vision is to make the state the food basket of Nigeria.
The potentials are outstanding for agriculture as Anambra’s economic pillar and extensive source of employment. The vast agrarian communities are virgin territories for economic empowerment. Wealth creation and poverty alleviation are interwoven in the agricultural endowment.
Anambra State is not an island unto itself as it is conjoined to the food security question across the globe. The World Bank report of 2020 states that about 690 million people, that is, 8.9 percent of the global population, are wallowing in hunger. This figure happens to be up by nearly 60 million in five years. It stands to reason that the food security challenge would become more difficult in the years ahead. The calculation is that the world will need to produce about 70 percent more food by 2050 to feed an estimated population of nine billion people.
It is heart-warming though that Anambra State has taken bold steps in ensuring food sufficiency. There has been a remarkable increase in the crop production yield through the adoption of the best agronomic practices.
The state has established partnerships with the likes of Cosharis Group in rice production and processing in the state; Chelsea Farms Limited in rice and cassava production and processing; and Lynden Farms in the establishment of integrated poultry produce.
Anambra State has also partnered with the African Development Bank (AfDB) and the Federal Government of Nigeria under the Agricultural Transformation Agenda project in the development of infrastructure to boost the production of rice and cassava.
Farmers from all the 21 local government areas of the state are due to receive incentives such as improved cassava stems, rice seeds and multiform modern seedlings. Governmental support for the farmers will of course improve with Governor Soludo’s solid charge toward providing credible solutions for the agricultural needs of the state.
The provision of agricultural equipment for the rendering farmers is a policy that cannot be countermanded. It is noticeable that young people are now embracing farming in Anambra State.
The youthful farmers will be duly empowered to engage in agriculture for sustainable development.
The government is steadfast in the drive to mechanize agriculture and encourage the production of target crops for backward integration. It is incumbent on the administration to stimulate Agro-business and investment by taking advantage of the opportunities created by the Anambra International Cargo and Passenger Airport at Umueri to boost export activities.
The Ministry of Agriculture has in its custody well-refrigerated vehicles for the transportation of vegetables to the ports for onward export to the wider world.
The government encourages Ndi-Anambra to farm anywhere they can find any free patch of land as one does not always necessarily need to have hectares of land at one’s disposal before farming can be done. Farming can be done in the homes and gardens with sand-filled organic fertilizer bags.
Anambra State has put into full utilization the CBN-funded Accelerated Development Scheme (AADS). It amounts to a revolution that rice production has risen from an insignificant 80,000 metric tonnes per annum in 2014 to the phenomenal 440,000 metric tonnes per annum in 2021. Also, cassava production increased from 276,000 metric tonnes in 2014 to more than 2.1 million metric tonnes in 2021. Maize production rose from 16,000 metric tonnes in 2015 to more than 64,000 metric tonnes in 2021 while vegetable production increased from 48,000 metric tonnes in 2015 to more than 322,000 metric tonnes in 2021.
What is even more remarkable is that land utilization now stands at over 95,200 hectares due to the influx of more people to agriculture. The current count is that Anambra has over 160,000 farmers and 3,000 duly registered co-operative societies. The farmers have made the swift transition from one-season farming to all-year-round farming with the increasing use of irrigation and the adoption of global best practices in agriculture.
The grand flagging off of the 2022 farming season is a sure pointer to a bumper harvest.

SECURITY: ANAMBRA STATE GOVERNMENT DESTROYS KIDNAPPERS' HIDE OUT IN OBA, IDEMILI SOUTH LGA

By Bona Ogbonna

In his avowed determination to rid Anambra State of criminalities, Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo's directive that all kidnappers and other criminal gangs' hideouts be raided and buildings harbouring them be destroyed was effectively carried out in Oba, Idemili South local government area, on Friday, May 10, 2022

Anambra State Joint Security Task Force conducted the demolition exercise which lasted for more than five hours at the hideout of the notorious kidnappers, an old bungalow building at Oba, Idemili South Council Area.

The hideout has earlier been raided recently, where exhibits such as locally made pistol, shrine, charms, concoctions, indian hemp, among other incriminating materials were recovered at the building with some arrests also made.

However, it will be recalled that a gang of kidnappers were traced to the hideout by the Police, following an attack and subsequent kidnapp of two persons at Oko, Orumba North Local Government Area, and another two persons in Ekwulobia, Aguata Local Government Area.

The gunmen had entered Oko through Nanka for a kidnap operation and were on the verge of succeeding before the prompt intervention of the police special force acting on a tip- off and subsequently engaged them in gunfire.

One of them was killed, but others escaped with various degree of injuries.

The gunman killed at Oko, whose video went viral on some social handles, was identified as a former vigilante who was part of a four-man gang who have been involved in high profile killings and kidnapping within that vicinity

The State police Command Spokesman, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga had explained that the command received distress call about the kidnap of two persons at Oko, and while on their trail, they learnt that the gang had kidnapped two more persons at Ekwulobia, and quickly pursued them and were able to track them down.

He explained further that Police operatives working with the vigilante stormed the location, on Sunday, rescued the four victims and arrested one Emeka who was suspected of complicity.

When interrogated, he confessed to the crime and led detectives to the hideout of his gang in Oba, Idemili South, where a shootout ensued.

According to Mr. Ikenga, the gang leader, one Chinedu Ajogu, AKA Sampolo was gunned down and five other persons including their native doctor were arrested for interrogation.

Addressing journalists later at the Governor's Lodge, Amawbia, Governor Chukwuma Soludo commended the efforts of the State Joint Security Task Force saying the demolition exercise would serve as a deterrent to other criminals.

Governor Soludo explained it has been established that the building demolished was being used as a den for criminal activities, stressing that the government policy does not allow any criminality to reign in the state.

He warned that henceforth, in line with the law, criminals will have no place in any part of Anambra state, assuring that his government is fully determined to ensure that the state is safe for everyone, and that people can move freely around without fear or molestation

He also applauded the cooperation by some people in the state who have been volunteering information, adding that every stranger is suspicious until his or her job is confirmed to be legitimate.

Governor Soludo again re-emphasised that any building being used for any criminal activities will be brought down and confiscated by government.

He also appealed to the people to be security cautious at all times, stressing that they should always report strangers and criminals operating in their communities to Security agencies

You confronted the problem of overloading of the old transformers by facilitating for the various quarters in Nnewi to get many brand new transformers to improve their energy supply.
You insisted that many strategic roads in Nnewi get paved.

We have not forgotten that you, Melie Onyejepu, used your personal resources to singlehandedly control the devastating erosion menace threatening the entire Umuezeagu community of Uruagu Nnewi.

We are grateful that during the second wave of Covid-19, Sir Melie was the only person that toured and distributed palliatives in all the Local Government Areas in Anambra State, while doling out financial assistance to indigent persons from each ward.

Ogbuefi, if others were like you, this world would be a better place to live in. May you also be assured that we will never forget your kindness to humanity.

PoliticsSupreme Court Never Sat, Let Alone Sack Dr. Victor Ike Oye As National Chairman by grassrootsig(op): 6:26pm On May 10, 2022
SUPREME COURT NEVER SAT, LET ALONE SACK DR. VICTOR IKE OYE AS NATIONAL CHAIRMAN.

By Bona Ogbonna

The attention of our great party, the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has been drawn to an utterly false and fictitious story making the rounds wherein the Supreme Court purportedly reviewed its judgment delivered on the 14th day of October, 2021 dismissing the appeal brought by one Chief Jude Okeke against the judgment of the Court of Appeal, Kano Division. In the said ludicrous story which has now gone viral on various social media platforms, the apex court was reported to have 'coronated' one Chief Edozie Njoku as the National Chairman of APGA.

We wish to state that contrary to the wishful thinking of the naysayers, no such decision was delivered by the Supreme Court on the 9th day of May, 2022 or on any other date. It is on record that the Supreme Court in SC. 686/2021 merely held that the dispute over the National Chairmanship of APGA is not justiciable and is not within the jurisdiction of the Court. The apex court in making that statement merely mentioned Edozie Njoku as the name utilized by the Plaintiff in Birnin Kudu as the National Chairman of APGA who was purpotedly removed to pave way for Chief Jude Okeke. The Kano Division of the Court of Appeal, whose judgment was affirmed by the Supreme Court, clearly stated that the Jigawa High Court had no jurisdiction to entertain the suit and thus set aside the Birnin Kudu judgment alongside the consequential orders made therein.

We wish to categorically state that by holding that the trial Court lacked jurisdiction to entertain the suit ab initio, the Supreme Court could not have made any positive orders to enure in favour of Chief Edozie Njoku or any other person whatsoever.

It's on record that the Supreme Court in delivering its judgment aforesaid similarly dismissed the appeal brought by Chief Edozie Njoku against the ruling of the Kano Division of the Court of Appeal which dismissed his application to appeal as an interested party. It therefore beats any reasonable imagination how the Supreme Court would turn around to overrule itself after dismissing the grossly incompetent appeal filed by Edozie Njoku.

A careful perusal of the document presently bandied by Chief Edozie Njoku and his hirelings readily reveals that the judgment was against the said Chief Edozie Njoku whose media urchins are polluting the space with the fake news. The Supreme Court not only struck out the appeal as an abuse of Court process but awarded 1m naira cost against the Appellants.

Furthermore, the certified true copy of the Supreme Court judgment shows that Chief Victor Oye was the 2nd Respondent at the Supreme Court and was duly represented by Chief Wole Olanipekun SAN, Dr Onyechi Ikpeazu SAN, PIN Ikwueto SAN alongside others. However, in a poorly scripted fraudulent attempt to mislead the public, Chief Edozie Njoku's name was inserted in the doctored judgment as the 2nd Respondent when Chief Edozie Njoku was not a party in the appeal at the Supreme Court. In any event, there are subsisting judgments of various superior courts of records that have made definite pronouncements on APGA leadership by affirming the May 31, 2019 National Convention of APGA held in Awka, Anambra State.

We wish to assure our party faithful and indeed the members of the public that there is no purported change whatsoever in the leadership of APGA. Ozonkpu Dr Victor Ike Oye remains the National Chairman of APGA and has not been removed by any court. The general public are therefore advised to ignore the false, fictitious and misleading story being peddled by the agents of distraction. Our great party is solely focused in the process of nomination of credible candidates that will deliver our country from its present state of underdevelopment.

Our great party has alerted the relevant security agencies to commence investigation towards the possible prosecution of those who may be found culpable in the forgery and mutilation of vital court judgments.
