It is with great pleasure that I join well meaning Nigerians, both at home and in the Diaspora, to celebrate an astute and exemplary leader, an Educationist par Excellence, a woman of great strength and intellect, an amazon and titan of our beloved state, the former Deputy Governor of Anambra State and the first Female Governor since the creation of Nigeria, H.E. Dame Virgy Etiaba (CON) as she clocks 80 today.

Mama Anambra's uncommon contributions to the growth and development of our beloved state cannot be overemphasized as she brought her sagacity, cultured and erudite disposition to bear, in a bid to foster positive growth and development in Anambra state.

Politically, Mama's legacy in our beloved State remains worthy of emulation as she, in her political prime, made immense impact on the lives of numerous members of the society and institutions within and beyond the state.

Today, we celebrate diligence hard work and humility. We celebrate an extraordinary mother whose intellectual capacity, values and love for Anambra spurred growth and development in our dear State. Mama, we celebrate you for your selfless service to humanity.

Mama, there is no better time to celebrate the wonderful life you have lived so far. On behalf of my family and the good people of Anambra South, I wish you a memorable and happy 80th birthday celebration. It is my earnest prayer that the good Lord continues to bless you with good health, sound mind and joy untold. I pray that the days that lie ahead shall be filled with immeasurable bliss.

Yesterday being 5th of November 2022, marked a beehive of activities as Nnewi People from all walks of life assembled at the NAF conference centre ,Kado ,Abuja , to give awards to some.of their illustrious sons as well as unveil the proposed building of a befitting edifice to be called Nnewi House in Abuja.

The event tagged the 750 Million Naira Nnewi House Fundraising Dinner And Award Night , was organised by the Nnewi community meeting in Abuja and chaired by Professor Kingsley Moghalu with Professor ABC Nwosu as the Guest Speaker.

In his welcome speech at the Occasion, the Chairman of the Nnewi Community meeting in Abuja ,Architect Ede Ikeotuonye said that Nnewi as a town is long over due to have a befitting building in the Nation's capital ,Abuja.

The Guest Speaker, Professor ABC Nwosu during his speech ,went down memory lane and recounted the various exploits from great men and women of Nnewi extraction in the past .He called on Nnewians to join hands together in promoting the spirit of oneness, so that they can continue to grow from strength to even greater strength.

The Chairman of the Occasion, Professor George Moghalu, ably represented by the former Commissioner for Public Complaints, Prince Samben Nwosu also took out time to extol the wonderful exploits by the Senator representing Anambra South Senatorial District, Senator Ubah and his service delivery to the zone .

While handing the award of excellence to the Distinguished Senator, the Paramount ruler of Nnewi, Igwe Kenneth Orizu (III) who was ably represented by Crown Prince Charles Obi Orizu (Obinaechendo) also took out time to extol his wonderful performances so far at the Senate, and applauded him for making Nnewi people proud of what he is doing in the Senatorial District.

Senator Ubah while accepting the award, expressed his gratitude to the organisers of the event and went on to inform the audience that the award will spur him to do even more for the people of the District and ndi Nnewi in particular.

" I came into politics after years of sponsoring poliitcal office holders because I wanted to show our people that performing in office is not rocket science, but a function of how genuine your intentions are for seeking to serve the people. I intend to leave an enduring legacy of service and economic empowerment after my two terms at the Senate and then go back to my businesses" . Senator Dr Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah said .

While unveiling the prototype of the would be edifice , Senator Ubah promised to inject One Hundred Million Naira towards the project and also do everything within his power to help the Nnewi Community In Abuja actualize its dreams of having a befitting edifice in its name, in the Nation's capital, just as he was able to mobilise his friends in building and furnishing hospitals in Awka and Nnewi during the Covid 19 Pandemic .He charged the Chairman of the Community, to work hard towards ensuring that the 98th birthday of the paramount ruler of Nnewi Community was celebrated with the building either completed or nearing completion, he concluded.

TRIBUTE TO LATE ELDER STATESMAN; CHIEF MBAZULIKE AMAECHI

It is with great shock that I received the news of the demise of the former Aviation Minister and Elder Statesman; Chief Mbazulike Amaechi who passed on to glory at the age of 93.

Undoubtedly, Chief Mbazulike Amaechi was an uncommon Nigerian whose sense of patriotism was exemplary as he clearly demonstrated these patriotic attributes throughout his national assignment as a First Republic Aviation Minister.

Late Chief Mbazulike Amaechi was a remarkable Elder Statesman and a consummate administrator who served the nation with full dedication and will always be remembered as a man of honour, discipline and forthrightness.

As we mourn the demise of this illistrious Igbo son, we are consoled by the fact that he pioneered a defining era, touching so many people and institutions positively which is the hallmark of a purposeful life. We will continue to remember him in our hearts and in our works as we pay tribute to his legacy which will continue to live on.

I pray the good Lord to grant the soul of the deceased repose, just as we seek divine help and grace for his family to bear this irreplaceable loss.

On The Deplorable State Of Roads In Nnewi

I am delighted by the move of the Executive Governor of Anambra State, His Excellency, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, to inspect dilapidated roads in Nnewi, today.

My constituency, Nnewi North, despite being one of the industrial hubs in Nigeria and the second most viable commercial town in Anambra State, has one of the worst road networks in the state. The deplorable state of roads has remained a nightmare to my constituents and this has stunted the economic development and growth of Nnewi.

As part of my duty as a Lawmaker, I have moved several motions, written letters, and approached the Executive severally to tackle this very painful situation we are faced with in our constituency. Although, several assurances were given in the past, the delays have worsened the situation.

However, His Excellency, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo has shown that his commitment to close the road infrastructure gap in Nnewi is never in doubt. The discussions I have had with him on road infrastructure in Nnewi and the recent revalidation of the contract for Okpunoeze-Nnewi Hotel road shows that he means business.

About three weeks ago, he came to see some roads in Nnewi. We were still at ASUTECH road Otolo when heavy rain started. I am happy that he came today as he promised and moved around Nnewi to inspect Milikwe road in Nnewichi, Umuezeagu-Akamili road, Bank road to St. Mary's Road, Okpunoeze road, Nkwo-to-Nkwo road and Akaboezem Road among others.

This is a good start, and we are very grateful.

The entire members of the above named forum, after its general meeting, condemns in entirety the gruesome assassination attempt on Sen Dr Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah (Ebubechukwu Uzo), the Senator representing the good people of Anambra South district and his convey on Sunday, September 11, 2022 at Nkwo Enugwu Ukwu.
We wish to thank God for sparing his life, and that miraculous escape shows that God has a special plan and task for him in Anambra South and Anambra State in general.

We are also consoling him and the families of his personal aides and security details, who lost their lives during the urgly incident. We pray that God will grant their souls eternal rest.

Hon. Smart Okafor who was at Diocesan Church Center, St. Andrew's Anglican Church, Nkwo Nnewi, yesterday, Saturday, 8th October, 2022, congratulated the wife of the Anglican Bishop of Nnewi, Mrs. Ukamaka Obi on her giant strides in the Diocese, noting that the achievements both in the spiritual growth of women and projects she has carried out is exceptional.

Speaking at the conference, Hon. Nonso Smart Okafor said that as a lawmaker she has carried out projects and programs that have touched the lives of a lot of women within his constituency, promising that he is poised to do more.

He revealed that the houses he built for widows, the salary scheme he established for widows, the medical bills he pays, and the employment he facilitated have women as the highest beneficiaries.

Appealing for the support of the women towards his House of Representative aspiration under the platform of All Progressive Congress (APC), he promised that if given the mandate, women in Nnewi North, Nnewi South, and Ekwusigo will feel the impact of his representation.

Sen Dr Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah Reiterates Commitment Towards Women Empowerment And Support For People Living With Disability

..as he thanks the Church for their Prayers as Nnewi Anglican Diocese concludes 27th Women’s conference.

...and donates total of 12 Million Naira, Wheel Chairs and food items to support the activities of the Anglican Women, the disabled and the Church .

The Senator representing Anambra South and Candidate of the Young Progressives Party (YPP) for the 2023 Anambra South Senatorial Election Dr. Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah on Sunday, reassured Anambra South women that his office will continue to put in measures that will promote their wellbeing. Senator Ubah made the remarks at the Nnewi Anglican Diocesan Church Center (DCC) during the final day of the Diocesan 27th Women Conference. According to him, women are an integral part of nation building and every effort must be sustained to promote their wellbeing.

Senator Ubah also thanked the church for their prayers and reassured the women that he will always give personal support for their Diocesan projects, and donated a total sum of Twelve Million Naira, only (#12,000,000.00) to support their activities.

The Senator made a donation of five Million Naira only (#5,000,000.00) to support the women project, One Million Naira only (#1,000,000.00) to the church choir, additional One Million Naira only (#1,000,000.00) to be used in catering for the disabled under the care of the church and five Million Naira only (#5,000,000.00) to support the immediate commencement of a befitting building for the Nnewi Diocesan Special Education Centre which was established to rehabilitate, educate and care for the people living with various forms of disabilities.

Speaking briefly on the heavy armed attack on his convoy on September 11 2022 which sent two of his aides and some Policemen to early Graves, Senator Ubah lamented that young lives were wasted and reassured the people that even though the incident remains a painful experience, he will never relent in putting in more efforts to promote the wellbeing of his constituents.

The Anambra South Senator further used the opportunity to reassure Ndi Anambra South, including people living with various forms of disability that he will always use the instrumentality of his office to better their wellbeing. Senator Ubah also donated special equipments like wheel chairs and food items to the Center and urged the Church to always remember Anambra South Senatorial District in their prayers.

Responding, the Anglican Bishop of Nnewi Diocese Rt. Rev Ndubuisi Obi thanked God for his love and mercies upon the Senator. The Bishop said though the recent attack on the Senator remains painful, all glory shall be to Almighty God who knows the best for his people. The Bishop further prayed for wisdom, divine grace and protection upon Senator Ubah as he carries out his legislative duties and reassured him that the church will continue to pray for Anambra South, Anambra State and Nigeria in general.

Senator Ubah who worshipped in the Church and was visibly moved by the special hymns of praises from the choir, to God for sparing his life during the September 11 ill-fated attack on his convey, was accompanied by a delegation made up of Chief Vin Onyeka, the Young Progressives Party (YPP) Candidate for 2023 Anambra State House of Assembly Elections, Nnewi North constituency, Sir. Augustine Ikedoji (Synod) and that of Ekwusigo constituency Miss Juliet Anaeme (Ada Ozubulu) as well as members of Afaigboefuna Solidarity Movement .

SENATOR IFEANYI UBAH ATTENDS FUNERAL CEREMONY OF HIS LATE REGIONAL MANAGER; MR IKECHUKWU ODUM IN MBAUKWU, AWKA SOUTH LGA, ANAMBRA STATE

Today being Saturday; October 8, 2022, I attended the funeral of my late Regional Manager; Mr. Odum Ikechukwu at Mbaukwu, Awka South LGA, Anambra State.

Until his demise, late Odum Ikechukwu was a person everyone wanted to reckon with. Remarkably endearing inside-out, a bundle of inspiration to all around him; a kind soul and wise counsel whose good deeds are inexpressible in words. Unfortunately, death snatched him from us helplessly. He was a truly magnificent man whose humility, openness and guidance will be cherished forever.

Till date, I am still shocked, saddened and traumatized by the gruesomeness that took him from us. So many times, I have tried to make sense of this, and tried to understand the reason why this happened. Unfortunately, there are no easy answers, and as difficult and painful as it is, we must accept that this is the will of God.

Undoubtedly, his demise has left a void in my heart as he was not just my Regional manager but a brother, strong pillar of support and confidant who was always there for me each single moment that he was called upon. However, while l mourn today, I have also taken comfort in the fact that he lived a productive and an impact filled life worthy of emulation.

I want to specially thank my friends that attended the funeral; Senator Uche Ekwunife, Senator Victor Umeh, Hon Uche Okafor (Wiper), Prof. Umenweke, Chief Vin. Onyeka, Ugodan, Emeka B.B, Chief Edwin Igbokwe, Hon. Juliet Chukwunonye Anaeme (Ada Ozubulu) and other notable personalities too numerous to mention.

May God grant us all the fortitude to bear this irreplaceable loss.

Senatorial repressing Anambra Central District Iyom Uche Ekwunife has described the attack on her colleague Sen Ifeanyi Ubah as purely an assassination attempt on his life.

Ekwunife who disclosed this at the funeral ceremony of Mr Ikechukwu Odum, one of the aides to Ubah who was killed by gunmen last month contended that this is not the Anambra state that people know.

“I lack words to express how I feel about what happened and I also lack words to console my colleague Sen Ifeanyi Ubah over the demise of two of his trusted aides, but God says in everything we should give Him thanks.

“Nobody knows what happened and how it happened but this is not the Anambra of our dream and this is not the Anambra we know where people come out and take away lives that they do not have and they cannot give.

“I thank God for saving the life of Sen Ifeanyi Ubah because it would have been the other way around, but God said no but for me I call it assassination attempt on his life and nothing more.

“Because if you look at the level of destruction of the vehicle he was riding on, you will know that it is purely an assassination attempt on his life.

“But God saved him because of who he is, that is why I came to support him and sympathize with him in this time of grief and I ask him to take it easy and take heart.

“God knows and decides the fate of men, but most importantly, I want to console the Odum family, I know them too well and they are good people and only God knows while He took his life, she said

“People should utilize the opportunity they have to do good while still alive because nobody knows when it will happen. Today it’s Ikechukwu, no one knows who’s next. He left a memorable impact on the people that crossed his part while he lived. May God grant him eternal rest and grant his loved ones the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.”

At the grave side, it took the assistance of Sen Ekwunife and other prominent personalities irrespective of political affiliation to hold Sen Ifeanyi Ubah who wept uncomfortably as his most trusted aide was being lowered and he could not speak to reporters due to his psychological disposition.

Fresh facts also emerged at the funeral over how the incident occured as close business friend and secondary school mate to Sen Ifeanyi Ubah (names withheld), narrated that the gunmen first opened fire on the bullet proof SUV which had the school mate and Ubah inside with the driver.

According to him , “I have always carried Sen Ubah on my SUV and he likes to sit in front at the passenger side.

“But before the incident, my vehicle had problems on my way to Owerri from Asaba, so I had to join him in his own jeep and the gunmen came straight to the front of the jeep and opened fire.

“Had it being that my SUV didn’t have problems I would have carried the senator in my SUV and it is not a bullet proof vehicle both of us would have been gone by now”;

“It was that my vehicle problem that saved Sen Ifeanyi Ubah and myself from the barrels of the gunmen.

Similarly he confirmed that a security operative attached to Sen Ubah returned fire and killed one of the gunmen and injured like two of their gang members but they carried them into their vehicle and people at Enugwu Ukwu junction were clapping for them; he said.

SENATOR IFEANYI UBAH VISITS AMAKU TEACHING HOSPITAL TO PAY FINAL RESPECT TO HIS LATE PERSONAL AIDE; MR. GOODNEWS MATHIAS AS HIS BODY DEPARTS FOR AKWA IBOM STATE

As we countdown to the burial of my late Regional Manager; Mr. Odum Ikechukwu and Personal Assistant; Goodnews Mathias scheduled to hold tomorrow being Saturday October 8, 2022 in Mbaukwu - Awka South, Anambra State and Ika, Akwa Ibom State respectively, today, I visited the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital Amaku to pay final respect to my late Personal Assistant; Mr. Goodnews Mathias whose body was set to depart for Akwa Ibom State where he will be buried.

Until his untimely demise, my late Personal Aide; Goodnews was a bundle of joy and encouragement to all around him. A kind soul, strong and resilient character who discharged his daily duties with utmost care and devotion. The thoughts of his departure to eternity is a reality that is too difficult for me to embrace.

While appreciating you all for your love and solidarity in this moment of grief, I want to humbly urge you all to keep us in your prayers as we prepare to bury and commit my late aides to mother earth tomorrow.

On behalf of my family, friends and the good people of Anambra South, I thank you all for your prayers, well wishes and encouragement. May God grant us all the peace and strength to cope with this irreplaceable loss, and may the soul of the departed rest in perfect peace.

...your exits were very painful and untimely, but God knows the best.

Odum and Goodnews, both of you have been faithful to the end. Though you have died, but you will rise to receive your rewards at the end of time. (Daniel12:13).

May our most compassionate and merciful God grant your souls eternal rest, and give your families and loved ones, the fortitude to bear these irreplaceable losses.
