Armed men suspected to be bandits have kidnapped at least 75 people in Kekun Waje district of Bungudu Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

In a raid on the community over a month ago, more than 60 people were abducted in a similar attack.

Those abducted in that incident are still in captivity.

Residents told our correspondent that the criminals have spiked attacks on the community after the local vigilantes stopped them from holding sway.

"The vigilantes defended the community. The criminals warned that unless the vigilantes disarm they won’t the release the kidnapped victims. With the abduction of 15 more people, there are 76 people, including women and children, with them."

“They kidnapped 61 people more than one month ago and they returned and abducted additional 15 people and they are now demanding that the vigilantes must disarm before they victims would be released. But the vigilantes in the community frankly told them that they would not lay down their arms and would continue to defend their community,” a resident identified as Sadiq said.

“We learnt a lesson from some of the neighbouring communities that entered into negotiations at local level with armed criminals. That notwithstanding, the armed men are still attacking them and humiliating their women”

“These criminals are totally dubious. This is because no matter what agreement you reach with them, they would continue to assault your communities and that was why we took the firm decision of defending our community despite their threat of attacks,” he added.

The spokesman man of the state police command SP Muhammad Shehu could not be reached for comment at the time of filing this report.

It's mid night and heavy rains and I hear the sound of glass breaking and my car horn....

Picked up my phone touch and a stick, ran straight to my dad's room to get the main door key, opened his room door; and boom.....I saw @$@$$#@$$2@#$_@.

The really annoying thing is that I froze for like 3 seconds with touchlight in hands (wasn't with my glasses so really didn't see well) until my mum screamed at me to get out.......I feel so embarrassed and how do I get that image off my head......

It's my bad habit of not knocking before entering that put me in this situation but you can't blame me......am in my 20s and have never seen my Nigerian parents intimate with each other plus I was raised in a semi Deeper Life family so am sure you understand how shocked and embarrassed am currently feeling.

The 1st quarter 2022 Cadre Harmonisé (CH) report has projected that about 19.4 million people including 416,000 Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in 20 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) may face food crisis between June and August this year.

The report also stated that about 14.4 million people including 385,000 IDPs in 20 states and the FCT were already in a food crisis situation, which may last till May 2022.

Cadre Harmonisé (CH) analysis is a unified tool for analysing acute food and nutrition insecurity, across 17 Sahel and West African states including Nigeria.

In Nigeria, it is jointly put together by the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO), World Food Programme (WFP), and other relevant stakeholders.

The report covered 21 states: Abia, Adamawa, Bauchi, Benue, Borno, Cross-River, Edo, Enugu, Gombe, Jigawa, Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Kebbi, Lagos, Niger, Plateau, Sokoto, Taraba, Yobe, Zamfara and the FCT.

The report points to insecurity, especially in the North East, inflation rate, soaring food commodity prices and reduction in household income due to long-term effects of COVID-19 pandemic as the key drivers of food crisis.

At the presentation of the report yesterday in Abuja, the representative of FAO in Nigeria and to the Economic Community of the West African States (ECOWAS), Mr Fred Kafeero, said there was the need for overhauling of the national food systems transformation to realise the 2030 Agenda.

Kafeero, represented by Professor Salisu Mohammed, called on the government to incorporate CH analysis results in national planning, including the designing and implementation of national food systems transformation action plans.

On his part, the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Dr Ernest Umakhihe, said the CH analysis became necessary in order to understand the issues driving food and nutrition insecurity across the country.
