Terrorists on Sunday night reportedly killed over 28 people in separate attacks in Malagum 1 and Sokwong communities of Kagoro Chiefdom in Kaura Local Government Area of Kaduna state.

The Council Chairman, Hon. Mathias Siman, who confirmed the incident to The PUNCH on Monday, said he could only confirm seven people gruesomely killed in Sokwong Community.

The attack is coming barely five days after an attack was launched in Malagum 1 killing three persons.

According to him all the houses in Sokwong Community had been  completely razed down by the terrorist adding that he is yet to confirm the killings in Malagum one.

Mathias urged residents in the area to remain calm as security agencies were being deployed to carry out investigation in the area.

Meanwhile, the Speaker of Kaura Local Government Area, Hon. Atuk Stephen,  said over 22 people had been confirmed killed in Malagum 1, while eight were said to have been killed in Sokwong.

Atuk described the killings as deadly while calling on the Federal Government and security agencies to redouble their efforts in order to curtail renewed killings in the area.

“Attacks in our area have been consistent and multi dimensional with efforts of the security operatives and government not seen or felt,” he added.

The spokesman of the Kaduna State Police command, Mohammed Jalige, could not be reached as of the time of filing this reports.

A yet-to-be-ascertained number of people have been reportedly killed in the troubled Ebor, Eha-Amufu community in Isi-Uzo Local Government Area of Enugu State on Sunday by armed herdsmen and their collaborators.

Security sources told our correspondent that the invaders who outnumbered the soldiers and local vigilantes, launched the attack on early Sunday morning, adding that several people were killed.

“As I speak to you, we are combing bushes in search of the bodies of those killed. I can’t tell now the exact number of people killed.

From the report I received, the armed herdsmen and their collaborators from Benue State communities launched the attack around 5:30 am to 6 am this Sunday morning. Before we got there, several people have been killed.

“We are just a few soldiers here and where we are based is a little bit far from the community. There are no other security operatives from other security agencies here in Eha-Amufu helping except the local vigilantes. They (vigilantes) first engaged them but the invading armed herdsmen outnumbered them,” a security source said.

A community leader, who gave his name as Ogbuabor Samuel, confirmed the attack.

"As I speaking to you, the invading armed herdsmen are still shooting. Several people have been killed, at least we have recovered the bodies of 10 people.”

Blaming the local government chairman, whom he described as playing politics with the lives of Eha-Amufu because of the 2023 general elections.

“The chairman of the Isi-Uzo local government area is playing politics with our lives. He didn’t want to tell the governor the true facts of what is happening in our community. He is not supporting the local vigilantes and other local security.

“A few weeks ago, he dissolved all the local vigilantes formed by Eha-Amufu communities yet he hardly visit the affected communities. We need the government to declare a security emergency in Eha-Amufu, especially in Ebor, Umujiovu, Mgbuji and Agu-Amede communities. Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi should do something drastic. His government should stop politicizing the situation in our place.

“They should stop fabricating stories that our people are collaborating in our situations. That is a fallacy and diverts attention from the real issues. Agala people in Benue State have joined forces with armed herdsmen attacking and killing our people every day. They have sacked several villages and occupied them. They have destroyed our people’s livelihood. Properties worth millions have been destroyed and those in political positions in Enugu State are playing politics with it?

Since these recent attacks started in October, we haven’t seen policemen. You can only see police if their commissioner is coming to witness the destruction. And when the commissioner goes back to Enugu, he starts dishing out false narratives. Where are the tactical squad and operational assets of the police he told Nigerians through the media that he had deployed to Eha-Amufu?

“We want to know who the security agencies in Enugu State are protecting their interest. The invading armed herdsmen? Could it be that the security chiefs in Enugu State are in the state to give cover to armed herdsmen?” he lamented.

Recall that the last attack on Ebor and Umujiovu communities on December 8, 2022, claimed 25 lives but the Enugu State Police Command told the media that only four people were killed.

After that very attack, because it was inside Eha-Amufu town, people fled their homes. So many of them ran to neighboring communities in Ebonyi State and some to the Enugu capital. So many have been forced into Internally Displaced Persons’ abodes.

The PUNCH reports that since January 5, 2021, till date no fewer than 120 people had been confirmed killed in four communities in Eha-Amufu by armed Fulani herdsmen and collaborators from the Agala community in Benue State.

Meanwhile, the Enugu State Police Command has confirmed the attack although without details of casualty.

The Command’s spokesman, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, who confirmed the latest attack to our correspondent in a text message, said, “sketchy report at my disposal shows that there was an attack. But the assailants were repelled by a Joint Police/Army team, that is currently trailing them.”

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has been dissolved and struck off as a registered company in the United Kingdom.

IPOB was founded in 2014 by Nnamdi Kanu.


He also established it as a corporation in the United Kingdom.

Kanu, who is the leader of IPOB and a UK citizen, has been detained by the Nigerian government since June 2021 when he was extraordinarily renditioned to Nigeria from Kenya.

In October, a three-member panel of the appeal court led by Justice Hanatu Sankey, held that the Federal Government flouted the Terrorism Act and breached the rights of Kanu when he was forcefully brought back to the country.


The court, therefore, discharged Kanu of the terrorism allegation. However, the Minister of Justice and Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, said Kanu was only discharged but not acquitted.

The company was dissolved on September 13, 2022, after warnings.

“The Registrar of Companies give notice that, unless cause is shown to the contrary, the company will be struck off and dissolved not less than 2 months from the date shown above.

“Upon company’s dissolution, all property and rights vested or held in trust for the company are deemed to be bona vacantia, and will belong to the Crown,” a notice sent to IPOB on June 28, 2022, read.

Earlier in the year, the UK barred IPOB, the Movement for the Actualisation of Sovereign State of Biafra and other Biafran groups from participating in its asylum programme.

The British government noted that IPOB had been proscribed as a terrorist group by the Nigerian government and that members of the group and its paramilitary wing – the Eastern Security Network – have reportedly committed human rights violations.

The UK, therefore, said that persons who commit human rights violations must not be granted asylum.

The UK Visas and Immigration in March 2021 released new guidelines to its decision-makers on how to consider and grant asylum applications to IPOB members.

In the guidelines titled, ‘Country Policy and Information Note Nigeria: Biafran secessionist groups,’ the UKVI, a division of the Home Office, directed its decision-makers to consider if a person “who actively and openly supports IPOB is likely to be at risk of arrest and detention, and ill-treatment which is likely to amount to persecution.’’

However, in its update published on its website on May 3, titled, ‘Country policy and information note: Separatist groups in the South-East, Nigeria,’ the UKVI said, “IPOB is proscribed as a terrorist group by the Nigerian government, and members of the group and its paramilitary wing – the Eastern Security Network (created in December 2020) – have reportedly committed human rights violations in Nigeria and various media articles.

“MASSOB has been banned but is not a proscribed terrorist group in Nigeria. It too has reportedly been involved in violent clashes with the authorities.”

However, the British High Commission in Abuja in a statement denied labelling the group as a terrorist group.

“We are aware of inaccurate reporting circulating in the media and online that the UK Government has added the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) to the UK’s list of terrorist groups or organisations banned under UK law,” the statement had read.

“These reports are untrue. The ‘Indigenous People of Biafra’ (IPOB) is not a proscribed organisation in the UK.

“The inaccurate reporting relates to the 13 April 2022 publication by the UK Government of a revised Country Policy and Information note (CPIN) on separatist groups in SE Nigeria, including the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). CPINs provide country of origin information (COI) and analysis of COI for use by UK Government decision-makers handling particular types of protection and human rights claims.

“All asylum and human rights claims made in the UK are considered on their individual facts in accordance with our obligations under the UN Refugee Convention and European Convention on Human Rights, taking into account relevant background country information and case law.

“The CPIN on separatist groups in the South East, including the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), provides a general assessment of risks faced by individuals belonging to those groups. These assessments are based on an analysis of publicly available country information obtained from a wide range of reliable sources including media outlets; UK and other governments; local, national and international organisations; and non-government organisations.

“This CPIN also acknowledges that the Nigerian government has proscribed IPOB as a terrorist organisation, some members of IPOB have reportedly used violence against the state and members of the public, and advises that persons who have committed human rights abuses must not be granted protection.”

They are free to take as many teachers as possible because learning how to teach is no rocket science. In fact, most corps members were made to teach, even though they had no previous teaching experience. It will also boost our foreign remittances.

On the flip side, it's more painful to take Nigeria's IT gurus and health care specialists because those are sensitive industries.

There were reports recently that gunmen invaded National Medical Centre, Nkpologwu, Anambra State and took away four newborn babies.

However, contrary to these reports,, the Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Dr Stanley Izuehie, has dispelled the rumour as fake news.

Nkpologwu is in Aguata Local Government Area of the State and the local government of the incumbent Governor, Chukwuma Soludo.

While dismissing the rumours, Dr Izuehie said that contrary to the reports in the media, robbers had attacked the hospital and snatched handsets and other valuables from patients two weeks ago.

Some sections of the media (not SaharaReporters) had reported on Thursday and Friday (today) that gunmen attacked a maternity hospital in Nkpologwu in Aguata LGA of the state and took away four newborn babies.

In those reports, it claimed that a source from the community had confirmed the incident.

But reacting to report, the CMD described it as fake news.

The PUNCH quoted the CMD to have said,“The information that gunmen stormed the hospital and took four babies is unfounded, untrue, and should be disregarded. A lot of people, including the state governor, the inspector general of police and the commissioner of police have shown interest in this matter and I hope it will be properly addressed.

“The truth is that two weeks ago, there was a robbery attack in the hospital, and the robbers made away with phones and other valuables from the patients. They did not go with any baby, so that aspect should be disregarded by the public.”

Also in a swift reaction, the President General of Nkpologwu Progressive Union, Dr Ferdinand Ezeiruka, said the source who claimed to have witnessed the incident, misinformed the general public saying the report had no basis.

Ezeiruka said,“Such thing did not happen in my community. Nkpologwu is a small town, any such thing that happens will spread quickly. So, it did not happen. Nkpologwu is a peaceful town.

“This kind of rumoured development did not happen here. The medical director of the said hospital is my friend. There is no way such thing would happen without him relaying the information to me.”
