A teenage girl who was addicted to social media ended her life after she failed to get enough “likes” on her photos.

Chloe Davison, 19, was an aspiring model who relied on social media to feel good about herself, according to her older sister Jade.

“She thought she wasn’t good enough unless she was getting loads of likes and comments,” her 20-year-old sister said.

The selfie-loving teen hanged herself in her bedroom moments after she had been active on social media.

After the girl started using social media several year ago, “all she would talk about was how many likes she got,” her mum Clair Reynolds, 44, said.

“She was addicted to apps like Instagram and Snapchat,” said family friend Nick Coombs, 55, who had known Chloe since she was young.

“She would spend hours taking the perfect photo, but would delete it later if it didn’t get popular enough,” Coombs added.

Chloe struggled socially at school and rarely went out with friends, instead staying indoors and taking pictures of herself for social media.

The pretty 19-year-old was often targeted by online trolls who would send her nasty messages and mocked her appearance.

“Chloe was crying many nights because someone had said something horrible about her online,” her older sister Jade Davison told the news.

On Friday night, Chloe’s mum and sister returned home from a bar around 11:30pm, and found the teenager hanging in her bedroom.

Chloe had been taking selfies moments before she killed herself, according to Nick Coombs, 55, who was at the house when the brunette was found dead.

“When we took her body down, her hair and makeup were still perfect,” Coombs said. “She was wearing some new lingerie that she’d been excited to model.”

The girl’s mum, Clair Reynolds, said she blamed social media for what happened. “Social media took over Chloe’s life, whether that be Snapchat or Facebook.”

She added: “Chloe was beautiful, but she didn’t see that. She cared too much about how other people saw her.”


Coombs said that too many people felt they could say whatever they wanted to the attractive teen because it wasn't face-to-face.

“She’d get hundreds of messages each day, mostly men asking her for sexual stuff,” Coombs said. “Sometimes they were nice, but other times they told Chloe they wanted to hurt her.”

Both adults agreed that the girl had low self-esteem and relied on social media for reassurance.

The 19-year-old had thousands of social media followers when she killed herself.

I Am Losing My Mind, Could This Be Love Or Foolishness?

Okay, I'd be quick and brief as well.

So about 6 months ago, I met my girl on facebook, And after months wooing her to date me, she finally agreed and we started dating..

Like everything was perfect and indeed I fell deeply in love with her even before I met her.

So along the line in our relationship she told she had a best friend who is a guy and they have know each other for like 4years..and that they talk very well (calls and chat) and that they tell each other they love themselves, but if I wasn't cool with it,I could break up she would understand.

As a guy I knew I had fallen for her and I embraced her telling me about the guy after a strong assurance from her that they were not into any sort of relationship with each other.

So my girl called me like let's say a month after we started dating that there was this her friend who she hadn't met and that wanted and she was going to see him, and I was like fine, she should just be fine.

P.S:- I hadn't met with my girl even till the point she went to meet the guy...I was in the west and she was in one of the states in the East..more like a long distance relationship.

Fast forward to days after they met I became uncomfortable with the relationship between my girl and the said new guy she met..I talked to her severally about it and she was at some point swearing not having anything to do with the new guy she just met.

Fast forward to the festive season I came back and I met my girl for the first time..indeed she was everything I imagined and we flowed amazingly well.

Long story cut short in the midst of one of our long conversations I discovered she have at some point had sex severally with her said best friend...so I was like since it was before we met I forgave her and we moved on..

yesterday I asked her if she has anything with the new guy and she swore again not having anything with him that the guy has been asking her out and she refused dating him.

She said plenty of things that convinced me into believing that nothing was going between them.

P.S:- before yesterday I told her to tell the new guy she has a boyfriend and she promised to..(from the actions of my girl I could tell she loves me.) She later told me that day that she told him and she had blocked him and stuff..and trust me I did believe her.

So this morning while she was sleeping I reaching out to her phone and went straight to her WhatsApp.. opened the chat with the guy and what I saw broke me..

She was reconciling with him over the break up she instigated of which was caused by something totally different not even because she told him she had a guy..what killed my spirit was a message she wrote to the guy saying "she left me for him even though I was far much a better option"..I confronted her and she has been pleading saying she loves me but she likes him and that they haven't had anything except kissing and caressing..that she loves me so much..that she started liking him when she started talking to him more frequently and I was far away. She hadn't know me..so she got fond of him and she likes him.

I love this babe so much, I told her I forgive her..but please I need your opinions..am I blinded by love or am being foolish..

How would you handle the situation. If it was you..

What's that misconception that people have about you?

1. Men find it difficult to believe it when I say am not in a relationship . They will be like "fine girl like you ".
2. Most of my friends think am so rich and comfortable. When I say I don't have money to give them, am tagged wicked.
3. Alot of people see me as cold, rigid and stubborn maybe because of how I Express myself or how I look. But the few close people in my life will always attest to how soft I can get.

Lol, this your post made me laugh. I know that feeling of nothingness when you decide to believe in nothing. It's like you are just existing. There is nothing more blissful than putting your faith and hope in a greater power. Some prefer idols who they think are quick to action. But I prefer God who knows the beginning from the end and is ever strategizing to give me an expected end.

This life and it's too many ironies. Just yesterday, we were discussing with friends and I got my mind BLOWN AWAY when a married man, (now divorced) was sharing his story about his divorced wife. Guess what?!!! HE MARRIED HER AS A VIRGIN. After about 3 years, he caught her red handed sleeping with a very young boy of around 16 years old, their male servant. Do you know what she told her husband?! I JUST WANT TO HAVE A FEELING OF ANOTHER PEN!S IN MY LIFE, JUST TO SEE THE DIFFERENCE . She was the one who lured or have been luring the poor boy to have sex with her.

My point is, even if you dey brag say you marry VIRGIN anything still fit happen.

Its difficult to say this, the girl I want to marry (although I have not proposed to her yet). I showed her picture to my younger brother and he told me he has slept with her. I asked him severely even showed him other pictures of her to make sure it's the girl he slept with and he said it was her..

I love this girl so much that I can't imagine loosing her.( Sometimes you love someone and you can't tell what's so special about them). I have suspended the proposal , and I don't want to disclosed what my brother said to me to her.

Sometimes I ask myself among all the girls in Nigeria why must it be this one that I love that my brother met with..

I would have gone ahead with the decision but what kind of respect will I get from my younger brother by marrying a girl he slept with ? Sincerely if it was my elder brother I wouldn't mind, but being my younger brother it seems to my as a let down ..

Of the many inane cultural and societal practices and maxims we have in Nigeria, this is one of those that gets me sick.
We have made it a life time achievement to get married, such that people become too desperate to tie the knot, often with the wrong person, spending your life savings in wanton ceremonies whose memory would fade with the next wedding at the weekend.
Then couples begin the race to have a child, it shouldn't even be heard of that you guys decided to just enjoy 5years of sex and try for babies thereafter.
We need a to ease the pressure on ourselves, why make life more difficult?

This is to formally acknowledge the receipt of the new minimum wage by federal civil servants..

The new minimum was added to the December salary of workers..

The payment which started December 21st has all the necessary additions as was calculated..

Although the workers got new additions as due them, the arrears which is said to run from April when the wage was singed into law was not included..
The question now is when is government going to pay up the arrears.. Or have they ruled it out..
