1.Countries that 'refine at home' are seeing rising diesel prices.

2.Crude produced for the domestic market...hypothetically...may not be as high as the international price, but it would be higher than normal. Then there is the cost of transporting diesel to the end user...especially with government not subsidizing diesel.

Let me tell you this, if the refineries were working, the increase in price would be a function of the increase in global crude price which ordinarily would be infinitesimal. Again the government would gain from the increase in the sale of crude.

For Instance the price of diesel and pms in UAE increased with some fils (our kobo) about 29 fils or so.

Now even if the price of goods would adjust it won't distort things like you have in Nigeria.


The solution however remains: Remove the subsidy, let's suffer it once and for all. But ensure the money from subsidy removal goes to the RIGHT channel. Emphasis on RIGHT.

Swerve please. Many countries that produce crude sell it at a high price. Unless you want diesel to be subsidised again...something that ended in 2013...and something that if reinstated would drive us into more debt.
