Mariangeles: It's not about hating, it's about preserving what is left of our heritage and identity. Especially those things the whites haven't tampered with. Kindly elucidate please. Cause from the post I quoted initially no such interference was perceived. Like the example I gave, cars ,air planes, phone etc are product of the white man and all have native African names. Im sure the white man doesn't care |

bergs2: It is not racism brother; more like dominance. People always go with a moving train. Imagine the double standard you showed now: typing with English language only to condemn those who do. That's shooting yourself in the legs.
Who were you expecting to give an African name to that fruit? Whites I guess or your fellow African brothers and sisters.
I think it's high time we accepted our faith as Africans so that we'd at least enjoy the gift of life and prosperity from God through people who are more progressive. Finally someone with working brain appears. They come out to hate on the white man using the white man's language, internet, phone and all... is that not madness? Moreover the stuff has various names in different languages in Africa... so also does the white mans invention has different African names... even phone has a name in Igbo I shock... so what's is the issue |

oz4real83: this is the racism that goes with white. Even though this fruit is found in Africa, they gave it their English version of name instead of looking for one local African language name to give to it. If this fruit was in Italy, France, Spain or any other European country, they would have called it in the languages of those European countries just like Spaghetti, macaroni, mayonnaise and many others. Oga give am your Africa name na... must the white man give it the African name for you? Whats the meaning your post Was it a black or African that named Apple for them. |

The guy made a valid point, which is that the whites ascribe all the greatest feats in the world to themselves alone forgetting that there other people coexisting in this world with them. The same way they claim they have the oldest woman ever and so on. So I don't know exactly what your point is if not that you're still under passive colonization. If for a second you can be devoid of unnecessary hate for the white man and be objective you ll understand that he was talking about lifting 200kg above ones head in the sport of weight lifting not what any body does at their homes. He was talking about what was recorded and official. If your grandfather had carried 4 elephants at once while standing on one foot but it wasn't recorded is nobody's business. |

needanswer: The naira was higher than the dollar at a time because the naira was formerly pegged at the price of 1 British pound.
After the naira was unplugged from the British pound by us having our own sovereignty and pushing our own economic policies which failed it fell badly.
Africa or Asians are not adopting Yuan in replacement of dollars, neither is China. The reason is that China is the country with the most US dollars after America. Those trillions of dollars China has from the west (America especially), it uses it to trade with other countries - Africa inclusive as its foreign reserve. China is also not loved in the Indo-Pacific region by other Asian countries. They view them as a threat to their sovereignty and would never align with them unlike the west. Yea i get your point. I was just replying that dude, if hypothetical the yuan becomes a dominant currency in Africa like the dollar, it won't solve any problem because its only a matter of time for the same shiit to happen again. |

gaby: In clearer terms, I would prefer Abacha's kinda looting and thieving to today's hydra-headed bandits.
During Abacha's days, the looters were of a manageable size and restricted to perhaps members of the Armed Forces Ruling Council (AFRC).
Can you count the number of looters in today's demonstration of craze from the Executhief, Legislathief, Jaundiciary, down to the MDAs with no clear defined functions or impacts on the citizenries?
If you know Abuja very well, you can count on just the fingers of your one palm the additions in terms of infrastructure since Abacha's demise and the 20+ years of demonstration of craze.
Over 60% of roads and government buildings to date are Abachas legacy projects.
In clear terms and today's realities, I'd rather an Abacha's kinda looting. That's How bad it has become.
Thank you. Certainly its has been a trend in Nigeria that every past government seems better than the succeeding government. Its a trickle down effect, it began with the military and the civilians have mastered the ACT. With every passing day looting is perfected just like skills, every one in government practice and rehearse well. I need not remind you that with modern technology it has become easier to loot hence it seems more rampant. During Abacha you need to move cash but today just a call, a click and a nod billions have moved. I still don't see how Abacha was Anti-West or Pan African. |

Do you know how many lives that was lost trying to free Kuwait. You all forgotten that he was using weapons of mass destruction called 'chemical weapons' on his own people in the Kurdish region.
See i am not one of those you can deceive with your 'propaganda against America' write up. You people are just jealous of America but there is nothing you haters can do about it. America will continue to direct the world God ll bless you o. They ll just come on nairaland and be echoing what one dunce had posted and be feeling like historians and intellectuals. Whites must really think pioneering feats start and end with their race alone!
Well, I don't blame them, they had the tool of propaganda long before us... Otherwise, Mr. Schwarzenegger should be told that great hunters of Africa did kill and carry buffaloes 'above their heads' way back in earlier centuries... Even the Great Pyramids of Egypt and other monuments like the Mummies were borne by humans without or partly with any form of lever! So, what's 200kg compared to those heavyweights? My friend go and sit down. Carry Buffalo. Are you telling bed time stories or folklore? Buffalo is about 700kg of pure beef. Even to this day the highest a man has lifted and not above his head is about half a ton. Pyramid is a mystery which no one can authoritatively say how ut was built. gaby: I have a more detailed lecture for you when next you get in my mentions.
Perhaps, only then will you quit with blaming yourself unduly for what you never caused nor have a control over.
As a tip:
I'm sure you'd ask Abramovic to blame himself for the injustice being meted out in him all in a facade of getting at Putin.
Now ask yourself...
Did Abramovic just started his relationship with Putin?
Okay, he got his enormous wealth crookedly...did he just get such crooked wealth?
How long has he and his enormous investments been in the UK?
Abacha stole, Abacha stole...
I'm sure he stole and stashed up such stolen funds after his death and from his grave.
Why were there no real-time reports to sensitise the citizens while Abacha was stealing their common patrimony if indeed the West had the interest of the country and citizens at heart.
The only man who dared to stand up to them and their evils was Abacha and as expected he was bad business to them and had to be put to sleep.
Even if Tinubu or whoever agrees to play ball with them, become the President, and thereafter decides to work in the interest of the citizens against the owners of the company, he'd be made to fail and ultimately put to sleep.
Make una wake up oh... In clearer terms please, are you saying Abacha did not loot Nigerians common wealth? Or He was killed by the West because he was against the west like Gaddafi? Or are you saying Abacha's regime was ideal? Or you mean to make us believe life under Abacha was great? Or the West shouldn't av accepted the loot which they eventually returned and within days got lost (relooted) In all of these including your example of Abramovic if he and his likes had invested in Russia n the Russian people, the West wont be able to seize or sanction his wealth or Football club dont you think? We have always had leaders who only consider themselves their motto is "MYOWNIZATION" If rhe West hadnt stopped buying black slaves, trust me your own kin and kith would have sold you by now and you ll be in a vessel to a plantation. Don't blame the buyer blame the seller. |

And no...minimum wage in the USA is not $15(only a few states pay that)..the minimum wage is around $7.25-9.5...
And speaking on wages...How much is the VAT in the USA...as much as 11.5% compared to 7.5% here...
Moreover in Nigeria we pay more tax but may not be termed tax. Except you don't do business in Nigeria. I did business and I know what we pay most of which aint going to the right purse even but we sha paid all.
How much is income tax? How much is the cost of housing?
Many things to compare but it does not explain why the cost of crude oil components is rising in the USA with out an increase in the earnings and you don't expect it to increase here...
We are talking of the reason for the increase....and Note it just starting Now compare the price change with other major oil exporting nations... then you ll get the point. At least here in the UAE the price changed but its hardly noticed. I only found out now cos I had to check. |

Why would you in the first place compare with the US who is a major importer of crude why not compare the price change with other OPEC Countries or oil Exporting nations... Now see the difference in the UAE This is the true reflection of the price of crude and not that product of ineptitude you experience in Nigeria. Enough of the subsidy sermon .. remove it once and make sure we see the corresponding infrastructure(s) and a subsequent decline in price of goods as local production would be encouraged

Oya answer your question... how much is minimum wage? I'm sure you don't understand how these stuff work that's why you think you have knowledge. First of all, in most states in the US, minimum wage is 10usd per hour and above. so if you work for just an hour you can get 2liters of petrol or more. Back to Nigeria where minimum wage is 30k for 26 days of 8 hrs.... Thats is like 208hrs and you earn abt 144naira for those hrs. Not even a litre from an hour job. |

The truth is , most Nigerians oppose subsidy removal. Even me, I opposed it till my eyes were opened in January 2012. And I understood some stuff.
But, as you can see on nairaland, and even outside this site...suggest subsidy removal, and people will abuse you, call you Buhari supporter, curse you, accuse you of propaganda, etc etc....because you want the poor to suffer.
As if the poor are not suffering from the resulting budget deficits that come from increasing subsidy costs. Yeah... and again people expect to see infrastructures from the subsidy removal but hell No. Even if the subsidy is removed, the common man won't feel a positive impact. |

backbencher: That's because in order to get a refinery at home, subsidy on PMS has to go first.
Same problem his predecessor had. Signed an agreement to build 3 refineries with the chinese, which were not built because subsidy was not removed completely.
If subsidy does not go, the refineries cannot operate profitably. Had we removed subsidy in 2012 or 2015 or 1993 we would have had refineries galore.
But everytime subsidy removal has been suggested, people come on the street and cry poverty. People threaten to come on the street and cry poverty. So, subsides remain, and investors keep out.
At the end, someone had to take an unpopular but good decision, but no... Not people.... politicians with ulterior motives like buhari did in 2012. |

FourElements: I like your sincerity, but the reason for the underdevelopment goes beyond the corruption of the ruling and political class. The system Of governance and the geographical expressions of most African state was particularly crafted for them to fail -Nigeria as a perfect example. Many a times, economic, geopolitical and social decisions made by African leaders are made under Western nations blackmail. They created systems that made some few rulers and local leaders to be "comfortable", while the people are subjected to generational slavery... "Your poverty is their prosperity". They use their foreign intelligence agencies to initiate coups, topple governments, and sometimes, carry out direct military interventions to remove any African leader that decides to be "brave" and work against their economic system of exploitation...Gaddafi's Libya as an example. So, you should understand that we are not trying to exonerate the those corrupt African rulers, but to point out that many atimes they are outfoxed and outmanoeuvred by these western "money magiikians". They make sure your industries and energy infrastructure, which are the backbone of development, does not become fully operational, and eventually collapse. Off course they can only achieve all these by given the "peanuts" to the selfish and corrupt political elites and local leaders, so as to allow the aberration to continue. Thanks bro, but did you notice at the end of your submission you stated "selfish and "Corrupt " political elite? There is the main problem, till We accept it bros we go no where. The west can "influence" any group in the presence of corruption. Let's go back to history, during the slave trade era ( I know we weren't born) but we learnt blacks captured there fellow blacks and sold to the white man. A system that only stopped because the white refused to buy blacks as slave anymore. Trust me if the west decides to openly buy slaves in this 2022, blacks will still raid their fellow black man and sell to the west. For Gaddafi, he might had have good plans for his people but was he a dictator? Was he truly loved by his people or feared ? Remember how long was he in power.... these were the foundations on which the west built their "case" against him You mentioned blackmail, if the west got nothing on you, no Swiss Account, no choice property, forgery or fraud how can they blackmail you? I believe the West dont care if we have stable electricity or good roads or portable water. If we must be sincere majority of the countries in Europe that are doing extremely well do not have footings in Africa, never colonized an African territory nor do they even really influence global decisions. What they have is good leaders with vision. That's all a nation needs. If you visit the UAE, you ll understand what it means to have good leaders. The place is under normal circumstances ( for the Average African man) non inhabitable but has been transformed to something else. Although you ll notice the western influence on them like now they have the normal weekend of Saturday and Sunday as against the traditional Friday weekend as per Muslims... |
