This exactly is what the government should be doing. Invest in infrastructures and let the people take it from there. Companies are not supposed to be investing in their own roads, railway, power plants and stuff like that.
Prettyjanet1: Our men in uniform should be blame for this. The system is just too corrupt and needs sanitization. Closing the border is not a correct measure to this. Say no to policy that brings hardship to the populace. I rest my case
There are real costs to smuggling, it can kill or stunt the development of a whole industry. It will deprive your government of huge revenue. Not to mention the security implications. Border closures of course should be a temporary solution until a more permanent solution is put in place.
Prettyjanet1: Seriously, This border closure really affect a lot of people. Imagine a bag of rice @ 28,000. One Congo @ #1000 which was #350 before. Local rice @ #600 with stone o. Why closing the border when local rice price will still go up to x2 of d price we dey buy foreign rice ? This government is just clueless
If we must import rice why should it be smuggled rice from Benin Republic.
quickly: Benin republic would rather buy Chinese cement than cement made in Nigeria.
Dangote cement banned in Benin.
Na Benin republic cause am because those people stubborn
Most of the consumer products imported into Republic of Benin are then smuggled into Nigeria. Nigeria needs to keep the borders closed until we are able to put a stop the smuggling. The negative impacts of smuggling on our economy cannot be underestimated.
Johans1991: U want Nigeria to open border but you pursue Dangote from your country. You lobbied Toyota to site their production plant in Ghana knowingly well that u don't have d market to give them. You were targeting Nigerian market now we don Wise up . We will all go back to patronized innoson motors. Any company that want the 200 millions Nigerians to patronized their goods should come and site their company in Nigerian. We have the land, the manpower and the market.
You are right about Toyota. Despite the heavy patronage of their products in Nigeria they decided to go to Ghana knowing fully well most of the cars will end up in Nigeria.
It happened to me once. I was driving a Honda Accord. I got to a stop sign, everything seemed ok until I was about to move forward and one of the front wheels gave in.
Blue3k: I didnt say he mocked Fayemi. I agree the author got that wrong. He's right about him not agreeing with project..
I think it was Fayose who wanted to build an airport. I might be wrong though. He is absolutely right that the economy of the state is not large enough to support an airport.
Where did he mock Fayemi? I need to see that part. You took a snipet of a speech and then try to twist it into another thing. What exactly did hd say that could be even mistaken for mockery?
"At stake in Nigeria are untapped oil and gas reserves, mineral and human resources and agriculture proceeds. Russia certainly wants a piece of the pie and has entered agreements with Nigeria this week to make that possible."
FactBoyz: Basically, the safety was against dust and some heavy nasal scents that could be dangerous.. So we used nose masks.. We kept considerable distance from the heavy machinery
How do you determine what is a considerable distance? I saw a cutting machine, you could be blinded by a flying debris. It is better to be safe than sorry.
It is not by the size of the economy, it is by the level of living.
China needs to be the biggest economy in the world to even have half the standard of living that Western Europeans, Americans, and Canadians have. You won't see Japanese people getting into cold trucks to smuggle themselves to Europe.
There are over 1 billion Chinese, the number of poor people in China is probably more than the population of Canada.
post=83448733: This is just so sad. All for this 'i must go to the abroad' matter.
Definitely not only Africans do this. Sad.
Nobody wants to leave his home country just for the sake of leaving. They all left in search of better life for themselves or their children. R.I.P to them and numerous Africans who died in similar circumstances.
NigeriaIsDoomed: I am only pained that I was born into a country where folks like you are comfortable with mediocrity, a country where citizens like you perceive necessities as luxury and would always welcome the crumbs thrown at him by his oppressors. I am pained, sad and bittered that Nigeria will never witness a paradigm shift with folks like you at the helm of our country. I pained that Nigerians have resigned to their fate and hence you are attacking those who do not align with your sentiments. If craving the advancement of Nigeria makes me an IPOB, I would love to be an IPOB member forever.
Isn't this thread about the advancement of Nigeria? Your moniker alone gave you away as someone who doesn't care too much about Nigeria.
