Lucasbalo: That's the mistake a lots of those Democrats make. Many blacks and Hispanics didn't vote because of the distance this Democrats created between them and Obama. Serves them right. My Governor , Pat Quinn embraced Obama because Chicago is Obama's hometown and still lost. There will soon be Republican governors in Connecticut, Massachusetts, Maryland, and Illinois!! This is a TOTAL repudiation of not only Obama, but the Democratic party as well. The stupidest idea was to localize elections and run away from a unifying message. When you lead, you go on the offensive. Democrats had so many items to run on, but instead they ran away from their accomplishments. They allowed themselves to be defined by the Republican narrative. When you don't stand for the essence of your party, you deserve what you get. |
Foreign Affairs › Re: Republicans Win Control Of The US Congress by GuyFawkes: 7:05am On Nov 05, 2014 |
Lucasbalo: Obama care can't be repealed because Republicans will need 60 votes in the Senate to override the president veto. You are correct though about the cabinet nominees. The most scary part is if there is any vacancy in the supreme court, that will be a war between Obama and Mitch McConnell. This too shall pass because it's going to be a tough time in the US for the next two years. Hopefully, the Democrats will get their acts together. You can bet Obama will defend the ACA with his life, the Republicans will huff and puff but they won't be able to repeal it although Obama might once again be forced to tweak it again. The SCOTUS has being Republican for a while and I doubt there will be an opening between now and 2016. Citizens united gave the GOP the ammunition to spend billions on elections no thanks to the SCOTUS anyway. |
Foreign Affairs › Re: Republicans Win Control Of The US Congress by GuyFawkes: 6:59am On Nov 05, 2014 |
Serves the Democrats right, why were they distancing themselves from Obamacare and the presidents economic policies even when statistics have showed they were working albeit at a slow pace. It was expected anyway, its the trend in America for the voters to punish the party in power. The key demographics which swept Obama into office in 2008 and 2012 obviously abstained from voting. Hope Obama can grow some balls now and act like a leader, jeez he's so annoying . Its all good for 2016 though I expect the Republicans to press the self destruct button for the next 2 years which will guarantee the Democrats the White House in 2016 as well ll as the US congress. |

EnlightenedSoul: Defense against what?
Some of it actually contains good tips (many of which were common sense). The rest/most read like mindless babble. Digesting the post yielded moments of agreement, disagreement, incredulity, and shocked amusement. However, by the time I was skimming through the comments, I had room for but one sentiment: the ever potent feeling of gratitude. Defense against the role of an African woman. Although the post was quite repetitive but I assumed anyone with a clear mind got the message. It didn't demean any woman in all honesty. |

Nice one by the OP, reading through the comments can't help but SMH @ the vitriol been spewed by our resident NL feminists Its not even laying down rules, dude was just giving a well meaning advice. Its left for you to take it or leave it. And enough of all this Black/African feminist crap, y'all don't even believe in it other than to put it up as some sort of self defence. Go have a chat with your mums or grandmas to learn how to be an african woman that's if they haven't been fed the same dogma in their adulthood. Peace |
Politics › Re: Jonathan Wants Aliyu Gusau As Vice-President? (Sahara Reporters) by GuyFawkes: 2:46pm On Nov 04, 2014 |
mikeansy: If Jonathan select Gusau as VP then GEJ has officially gone mad.
Gusau schemes a lot and is capable of killing the President if he is next in line! If he's dumb enough to try it, that's leaving the fox to guard the hen house . Gusau is the most scheming Northerner you can think of after IBB and Abacha. He was the reason they took out GMB early than planned as he was been pencilled down for retirement from the army then as a colonel. He's a wily old coup merchant himself and participated in Shagari,Buhari, and Shonekan's overthrows. Although he was tricked by Abacha and Diya into thinking he'll be the Head of state after the coup,he had to tender his resignation when he realised he stood no chance. Abacha distrusted him hence he's passport being seized and he was put under surveillance till Abacha's death in 98. |

Gusau is one of the power brokers in the North and a staunch IBB ally. He will never accept to be VP under GEJ. |

EnlightenedSoul: That's pretty cool. Im glad you had a good time in Maryland I've been a bit surprised at your account of DC. It seems people have been telling me the opposite so far, but I always appreciate the balance an opposing opinion/experience provides. I'll have to go scale it out for myself, of course. I can't wait to set out, and see what's up. I'd, in fact, like to explore the entire coast if possible. Seeing as I haven't lived there in almost 20 years don't take my word for it, do scale it out yourself and I believe its changing. My friend lives in the North east part of the city and he said there's still a good number of crimes. That's the area populated by caribbeans I assume, so check out other neiighbourhoods. How about New jersey or someplace upstate New York? Boston is a lively little city as well. |

EnlightenedSoul: Ah, I see. In not sure what I said in the feet thread, but those were some pretty good guesses lol.
Tell me, did you like Maryland? And was DC that bad when you were there? It was great I have fond memories, huge Nigerian community in downtown Baltimore made it feel closer to home. Lots of family members always showed up for birthdays and all, my Dad was working in DC so we made the short move there, my mum didn't even like MD probably because she had spent most of the 80's in New york and digged the vibe DC was so boring and uneventful, nothing captivated me about the city I learnt about the crime part later though must have spent 6 months max and I hated the school . Read the demographics are changing in recent years, lots of latin americans and vietnamese are moving in and the white population is increasing. |

Russell Brand oozes sexuality. Enlightenedsoul described him as hottt [sic]. That's like saying "hot, hot, hot!".
Chris Rock is a very funny marrafoker. But I am certain only a very small minority of women will describe him as hot.
Brand has the charisma of a cult leader. Spot on . |

But when its mating time, their good, ol' DNA takes the controls. And lil' miss DNA's desire/wants really are set in stone.
Russell Brand is not the stereotypical good looking guy. But based off his behaviour, he's right up there at the pinnacle of masculine comeliness. Lol at DNA Russell Brand is most ladies kinda guy with his wicked humour. Think he'll wear Enlightenedsoul out with his pranks. |

BuddhaPalm: Hey bro, you need not trouble yourself over nothing. What women say they'd do, and their eventual actions are usually widely different.
My own sister 'prefers' dark guys. Well, so she said. She ditched her dark boyfriend to marry a very fair dude.
When they talk skin-colour, pay no heed. Its the equivalent of a guy saying he prefers chics with a certain colour of nail polish.
Nothing to be taken seriously.
If the Elba dude, came in red, so long as the right behaviour is there, he'd still engender the same effect.
BTW, read your earlier posts, in the morning, on the mechanics of coups. Respect. Agreed women change their minds very easily as long as it suits their present mood. Their heart desires are not set in stone. Thanks bro aprreciated. |

Romance › Re: . by GuyFawkes: 11:53pm On Nov 02, 2014 |
EnlightenedSoul: I'd say it's a lot more pronounced than it was in the 90's. It's quite visible today in Black entertainment, [social] media, and society in general. At the very least, I'll bet men in the 90's didn't include references to skin tone in their pick up lines...lol.
I might move to DC. Yeah its the norm in Black entertainment nowadays but it doesn't change the perception of blacks in America in anyway. DC is still too black and crime ridden just stay away. |

I guess my own ignorance would pertain to the obsession in Africa, and why it exists? I lived in DC and Maryland as a kid in the mid 90's and I had no idea that's the way it was. I found it more pronounced in Nigeria as an adult. |

EnlightenedSoul: Nah. Alls I know is, I'd have a very 'Yhhh, cool storyyy bro!' response to being approached by Drake.
The initial point I meant to make was that it isn't about skin tone anyway. I truly think people limit themselves with that BS. That was, of course, right before I saw Drake of all people forming poster boy. I felt compelled to assume the position of interim spokesperson for light-skinned peeps, and speak up on the travesty of such unfair representation Lol @ being approached by Drake . You don't mean it . Quite possibly you aren't a lady that gets star-struck. This light-skinned , dark-skinned categorisation stuff is annoying, and I feel it started to rear its ugly head in recent years. Some folks all of a sudden don't feel good in their skins. No thanks to the black female superstars transforming themselves into snowbunnies overnight. I saw a documentary by Soledad O'brien couple of years ago, and I was shocked even african americans prefered a lighter skin to a darker skin.... I was shocked!!! Its now an obsession in africa . Black folks won't be overcoming the mental slavery anytime soon. |

Arch1: It is very shameful, really. Nigeria is technically at war, i expect our president to declare so and set up a war cabinet forthwith ! but the clueless doofus is only concerend about his political ambition Of course Nigeria is at war. What do you call a nation with 3 million internally displaced people and refugees in cameroon, chad? But according to sorry excuses for human beings its a northern problem, no doubt that's what the sycophants who surround the fedora wearing weasel will be telling him hence the inaction. I doubt the drunk fisherman can tell a war cabinet from his kitchen cabinet . |

EnlightenedSoul: I like me some Drake here and there too, but let's be honest here. The other guy has something on him (and it's not his skin tone like we're being made to believe). They're simply not in the same league. I mean, how can Drake be made the poster-child for 'gorgeous light-skinned men', when he isn't even worth a second glance? Sure sure Idris Elba >>> Drake anyday. He can't be the poster child for 'light-skinned men' , can't even think of anyone to be honest. Let's say Shemar Moore,Boris Kodjoe |
