He is helping the US and Europe to ensure that this bill is not passed so that we will continue to be in the dark of how much oil we produce and export. Very sad that some sections of the country are pulling the rest backwards.
It is a shame that he is not concerned that 73% of kids in Borno State between 6-16yrs have never been to school while Imo State is recording almost 100% school enrolment for the same age bracket and the new Gov is still not satisfied that he has just declared free education for every kid in Imo State.
Ten years from now what will be the status and mentality of kids from these two states mentioned? Definitely one will be very advanced and rearing to acquire more knowledge and know-how on how to mine and refine the oil while the other will be a tool for religious extremism and totally dependent on handouts from the federation allocation to states and local govts while asking for quota system to slow down the other kid from further academic advancement.
The north is truly in problem and the gap in all human development indexes between them and the south will keep widening. Sad to have people retrigressive ethnic jingoists like Hon Sumaila as our representatives.
NYSC › Re: NYSC: ‘Don’t Send Our Children To Death Zone’ - UNILAG Parents by Guyman02: 12:10pm On Jun 23, 2011
I wont blame any parent who doent want their wards to serve in certain areas as a precautionary measure. It is unadvisable for a youth corp member to wear his uniform on the streets of Maiduguri under the present situation because you stand the chance of being gunned by motorcycle riding AK47 clutching Boko Haram members who may see them as Govt agents.
Many CPC supporters still view corpers as part of the rigging mechanism used to deny their Mai Gaskiya his presidential ambition.

Advice: if you must serve in some northern states, after orientation camp, dump your NYSC uniform in a bag and go to ur place of primary assignment in kaftans and probably grow a beard (bia bia) then for the ladies learn to wear the hijab (veil), free flowing trousers or wrapper, long sleeve shirts that falls below your butts and hopefully you will be fine by not attracting unnecessary attention as an arni (infidel) on yourselves.

Avoid any writeup or booklet in arabic alphabet or you will be wrongly accused of desecrating the Koran.

For you Christian preachers, please dont go around evangilizing and arguing over religious matters or you may be acused of abusing the prophet (Apostacy) and that could attract mob action.

Avoid having affairs with their daughters or you may be accused of defiling her with infidel blood, but they are happy when they see their men dating Christian ladies as they view that as a conquest with the possibility that if it leads to marriage the Christian lady will bear kids that will follow Islam (Maryam Babangida) and even be converted.

Avoid using Almajiri kids to wash and clean your clothes and house as they have the tendency to claim that you were seen cleaning your anus with a sheet from the holy book and that will spell doom.

Avoid alcohol joints as they are seen as a place of gathering for infidels that could be attacked for a reward from Allah.

Avoid INEC electoral duties.

Avoid passing through the Mosque area especially on Fridays when others are bowing and you are walking majestically across their front the Hisbah (Islamic police) may come for and you could be dealth with severely.

When you hear shouts of Allahu Akbar continuosly different from the normal call to prayer just sense trouble and make your way out of that location, it could be a call for mob action.

There are other rules that you must keep and you will have a memorable service year in the North and in the end you may even wish to remain there and pick a job.

Why dont you just admit that the people creating most of the problems in the North are the fiery preachers who spend all their wazi time indoctrinating the youths and turning them against their fellow citizens. The lambast the politicians so badly in front of their congregation but are always paid huge sums to officiate in the wedding fatihas of the currupt politicians kids and even offer prayers and sacrifices for the electoral victories of the same politicians the blame for the woes of the people in their mosques.

Politics › Re: Did Gideon Akaluka Really Desecrate The Holy Qur'an? A Contrarian Muslim Review by Guyman02: 2:38pm On Jun 22, 2011
@Jamala thanks for your incisive post. I grew up basically in the north as an 'Iyanmiri' and while we struggle to be recognised as part of the community, our hosts still look at us as unclean. Even some of us that accepted Islam were still being looked at with the mantra of 'allow him to waste his time because Allah (SWA) doesnt see a Southerner as a true muslim'
I could still funnily recite the slogan being sung at us on our way to school in our uniforms 'Yan makaranta boko ko, ba karatu, ba sallah! and still recall that children of the Emirs were attending western schools in other communities and reside in the homes of the mai angwa or another Emir and only return home during holidays as a means of hiding them from the subjects who are encouraged to send their kids to Almajiri programme to get reward from God.
Before we got to primary six, we attended the 'taura aure' (marriage ceremonies) of our few female classmates in company of some of our teachers which we enjoyed because of the biscuits and rice that we share and that will mark the end of that little girls education.
In other to be accepted as a southern kid who loves the Hausa and Fulani people and want to be accommodated I could remember partaking in the local boxing context (danbe) where we were once thouroghly bruised and only to get home to get further beating at home from my guardian for daring to join an 'ndi awusa' event.
But the worst of all is the regular threat from the average youth to deal with you over a minor quarrel if a riot against infidels breaks out and the constant fear that the Akaluka treatment can befall you as a southerner just at the mere shout of 'Allahu Akbar, wan nan arni ya zage Anebi Muhamadu' (this infidel has abused the prophet PBH) and you could see immediate mob action.
The way out of this situation is for the Emirs and clerics to encourage the people to send their wards to school, just like the did with the polio vaccine which was initially rejected by the people, even establishing hundreds of schools without the active support of the traditional rulers may not work effectively.
Just like rightly mentioned, if clerics like Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi who is a close confidant of the VP makes a statement that the new schools will lead their children into abandoning the tenets of Islam, thats the end, but if he says he will be visiting the schools periodically to deliver Islamic lectures you will see a rush.
The initial mistake of the British is not in Amalgamating the South and North of Nigeria into one entity but ruling the people through the Emirs who love authority at their behest and keeping the people stagnated in other to have loyal servants.

The Igbos are truly the ethnic group keeping Nigeria one, loosing their lives in so many crisis engulfing the North because they believe Nigerians must stay together.
Cattle routes and pasture lands must be delineated to avert this kind of crisis and the Fulani nomadic lifestyle has got to be mordernised by establishing ranches for them and teaching them mordern ways of rearing cattles than invading other peoples farm lands. We dont produce more cattle than Europe, we still import milk with all the Fulanis efforts and wars.
The Fulani cattle rearers are increasingly becoming a menace in West Africa not only in Nigeria because of the effects of drought. Solution: State Govt has to invest in ranches for them. Shikena

It is easy for a Christian to be lynched in the north based on a simple religious argument with even your friend or a minor quarel with a mallam. All he has to do is to shout Allahu Akbar! and tell the gathering crowd that this person has just abused the prophet of Islam, they crowd may not even try to find out whether it is true or false; gbam! Fatwa has been declared and the next thing is mob action.

Remember how that Igboman Gideon Akaluka was beheaded in Kano for unknowingly picking up a paper that turned out to be a torn page of the koran and the nursing mother teacher in Gombe from Ondo State who was lynched by her own students during exam when she threw a copy of the koran out of the window that her pupil was using to carryout exam malpractice.

Religious Mob action is a serious issue in the north especially among the Hausa and Fulani tribes (theres nothing like Hausa/Fulani, they are two distinct tribes) and should be curbed and discouraged by any true muslim; thats why the breed Almajiri as militias for rioting.

I have stayed in north, the major problem of the almajiri is food, food, food. FG should partner with the north state govt. and introduced feeding in northern school. I tell you all the almajiris and their parents 'll be in school.
You got it right. I stay in the North; Without adding at least two square meals this kids will not attend those schools. There is far more seriuos poverty here in the North than in the South. To succeed: I repeat; feeding plus education. The kids are always hungry with nothing to eat, thats why the roam about the streets and motor parks.

The issue is that the almajiris have always being used as political tools during crisis to deal with erring christians and opponents in the north in the past, but now they have started to also target fellow muslims and the elite and thats why the VP has decided its time they do something fast, but its a little late now that they are begining to embrace suicide bombing and have learnt the art of making bombs.

The people of Benue were carried away by Saudanas deception of one monolithic north in the past. Dont refer to them as citizens of Almajeria, they are not so cowardly as to become suicide bombers.

BOMBko Haram has just introduced suicide attack to Nigeria which was learnt during their training in Somalia recently. The question is how did they enter Somalia and came back without detection till now?
The security agencies should start putting the clues together to find out how many of them went to Somalia and there present locations. Did they travel with a passport to a neighbouring country enroute? did they go by road to East Africa through Niger or Chad questions questions?

JaaizTech:
Now that is what I am talking about with an OBJ on sit I am sure the BOMBKO HARAM themselves will be feeling the heat. GEJ needs to be stronger and damning. Forget politics, I know the north will rise and accuse FG of not declaring state of emergency in Niger-Delta, but at this rate we just have to damn that, otherwise this country will consume itself. BOKO-HARAM needs to be hit very hard. Track down their bases and bomb it, Fire for Fire.
Its difficult to negotiate with a group who want to impose their brand of Islam on the country and want the IGP and Governor of Borno State to step down as a precondition to negotiate.

Excellent development. This is how we can launch Nigeria into the economic boom we have desired for so long.

BTW, since Enugu is rich in coal deposits, why not build coal fired power plants to generate power for the state's consumption. If a state like Enugu can achieve 100% power, it will be much easier to get committed investors and create jobs.
GEJ just awarded a contract for the feasibility study of a coal fired power plant in Enugu to be completed in two years time. The coal power project was abandoned in 1984 due to sentiments and the whole country has been suffering power shortage since them. From 900,000 tons (p.a) of production before the civil, the coal mines production was reduced to 30,000 (p.a) until it was finally closed in late eighties. Even the rail lines that carried the coal is presently grounded.

I saw the busses in Enugu and they looked really beautiful. i just hope Northern States governors are watching?

Osu is still very alive.

Like who?

That's untrue, if you know Igbo rites, you would know that the mother of the groom and bride investigate their possible in laws before and maybe after marriage. Igbo children in the rural communities are still aware of who is osu and who is not.

Super liberal Zik of Africa tried abolishing it, and guess what? He failed because they asked him to marry his children to Osu and guess what happened?
Nwosu doesn't mean you're osu, maybe ask first before coming to conclusion and possibly insulting someone.
Leave the great Zik alone and stop promoting the Osu rubbish; the new generation of Igbos have grown past your level of almajiri mentallity.

its no longer a big issue in Igboland. most of the so-called traditional rulers have no respect in their communities and with the proliferation of automous communities by subsequent PDP Govts, many of those who were once refered to as Osu are now traditional rulers themselves and occupy political positions on behalf of the S/E.

There is nothing much to be discussed on this thread. Most of those who grew with it as a taboo are rapidly dieing off to old age while the younger generation even get married in court in the cities before coming to the village to inform their families.

without sounding tribalistic, checkout the names of the arresting police officers. The issue is that some parts of this country are really slowing others down, the average Igboman is always rearing to go, thinking hard of how the whites are able to achieve what they have and always believing that he can do same. Go to Aba and see what those guys are producing. We have spent time discussing about inverters, if you get to Aba you find locally made inverters littering the streets.

These guys refine kerosene which is selling presently at N850 a gallon, ask them how are they able to achieve that, while we waste several millions importing and subsidising while GEJ (the new american puppet) is busy sitting at Obamas office discussing second term for UN Banki Moon and supporting bombing of Ghadaffi and Libya by NATO.

The police also takes the law into its hands by declaring their facility illegal and destroying them without a competent court of law giving the directive. Illegality for illegality in a banana republic

Doyin4real:
Can a UPS be used in place of an INVERTER?
Yes it can be converted if you have a background in electrical issues. : - 600VA UPS, if you want to change it so that it will run as an inverter.

Converting a UPS to standalone Inverter

You don't really NEED a schematic to do this, of course depending on the inverter. There are a few general tips I can give you on performing this conversion:
1. This is the most important. Establish the battery voltage of the internal battery. If the battery is in it, look at it for markings indicating it's voltage. If it's 12 volts you're golden. The UPS I converted (TrippLite Internet Office 500) uses a 12v battery with an operating range from 10 to 15v. This is ideal for automotive use because that's roughly the range you have with a car battery when in use (at least mine, when it's running it's usualy 14.5 to 14.7, off usualy around 12.5).

2. Establish that the UPS can easily be turned on without an initial 120v input. This is accomplished on the TrippLite by switching the power switch to on and pusing the test/mute button. This enables the UPS and switches it to battery voltage.

3. Locate the alarm buzzer or speaker. This should be pretty easy to find if you know what one looks like (take a look at a PC mainboard or two, often it's a little black cylinder about 1/3" in diameter with a small hole in the top. Remove the speaker, or disable it. Pretty simple. If you're fairly profficient with a souldering iron you can de-soulder it, otherwise just rip it off the board with a pair of pliers (remove all of it, right down to two stubs poking up from the board). If you want to replace it later on, say you want to convert it back to a UPS it's pretty simple.

These are really the main concerns when performing this conversion. If the battery voltage is different you will need to construct a power regulator to get the desired output from your car battery. If you cannot get the UPS to turn on without being plugged into household current, you'll need a schematic. If you can't find the alarm speaker you'll be listening to it go off constantly (unless you want to put it in your trunk or something).

One other thing you might want to do: Add a fan. Power inverters use their casing as a huge heatsink. Most UPSes are encased in plastic and aren't as well cooled. They don't have to be since their time spent as an inverter on a desktop is usualy less than 15 minutes. You may, if you want to get really involved, and be really safe, is to locate the MOSFET transistors within the unit and replace their heatsinks with a larger heatsink that you can attach a fan to. Depending on how long you want to use the UPS as an inverter per session this might be a definite concern.

Let us know how successful you are and share your experiences.

nice!

so chuck and SUV, how long do you think these inverters will last . . or the batteries?

in short, what's the lifespan?
The inverter is like your normal stabilizer which can last quite longer except if the coil perhaps get circuited, but there is normally a fuse than can prevent the wrong current going in. The major issue to consider when buying an inverter is the deep cycle batteries, most of the ones you find in the market are low quality from China, if you can get any good EU standard deep cycle battery then you will have no problem. Some of the types you have in the market dont last morethan 6 months before loosing power easily after full charge (many State govt street lights use them), while quality batteries lasts up to 3 years or more depending on use, the batteries can also be serviced.
The inverters from India are known to do better than the rest (try Genus), while 100Ah deep cycle batteries from the US or EU lasts longer .

Rochas has to start from a field where he knows the ground very well which is running schools succesfully.
The youths in Imo are talented going by the results achieved in major exams in Nigeria and the enrolment number. With the right education and enabling environment, getting the correct manpower to run businesses will not be a problem and the resultant effect will be rapid growth for the State.

The only way a nation can develop is through education. Kudos to Rochas. The Biafrans were able to develop some critical equipment during the civil war because of the available education they had which later led Awolowo to declare free education in the South West and for which other parts of the country have not been able to catch up.
The only way the govt could slow them down for the North to catch up was to declare catchment areas and quota systems in higher education, but they West circumvented this arrangement more easily because they shared several similar Muslim names with the Northerners and claimed many of the available Northern slots which the Igbos couldnt do.
