SfNelson17:This depends on your personal interest because no one can specifically tell you what to study. Studying in Germany isn't so easy so you need to pick a field that you like so you don't end up struggling. I can only suggest the names of schools for you, if you tell me your field of interest. 2 Likes |

SfNelson17:You cannot apply for a master's degree program with an HND result. Uniassist won't forward your application so don't waste your money. You can try applying to schools that do not require uniassist but the chances are still slim. I'll advise you apply for a Bsc with your HND rather than an Msc. 2 Likes |

Kenechill:Not everything is white and black sir. You can't stay in Nigeria and do the calculations and conclude about how much he is spending. And FYI? public health insurance is 95€. He is doing two jobs and going to school very well? Please make your findings and be sure of what you're saying. Kindly remember also that what works in city A might not work in city B. As someone rightly said, there are some things he isn't telling you. If he is taking a gap year or taking studies slowly then it might be possible to work more, but if that's not the case then there is definitely something missing. You can't plan to earn 10k€ in a year and still have plans of getting very good grades. One of them must definitely suffer and that's the truth. Get your facts straight so that you don't get your hope's up for nothing. Don't let motivational speakers deceive you into setting very high and unrealistic goals. Goodluck. 12 Likes 2 Shares |

Kenechill:Getting a job that pays that amount is possible, especially during the holidays. Get here first and you'll find out about tax and the rest. As for job sites and registrations, there are some sites and in some cases, you only need to send an email but you also need a German address. I'll advise you take it one step at a time because even if you register now, you won't be able to work until you arrive here and also get your work permit, address and residence permit. And yes, it is cheaper to get a house in Freising and in Garching since our semester tickets covers them, but you'll have to decide if the long travel distance (between 30 to 40 minutes or thereabout) would be an issue for you or not. Like I said earlier, one step at a time. 2 Likes 1 Share |

Kenechill:1. Uhmmm, it all depends on the type of job, but you should be able to find something to keep body and soul going. 2. My campus is in Garching, but I live in Munich (Its just 40 minutes away by train (which the semester ticket covers) 3. Accommodation is one of the problems we have in Munich, so I'll advise you apply as soon as you can to studentenwerk. Try contacting some Nigerians here and check online too on wg 'gesucht', but do not pay for a room without proper verification as there are a lot of scammers out there. 1 Like |

Eldeee:Hey everyone! Been a bit.. I moved to Germany as a graduate student in Applied and Engineering Physics at the TUM in 2017 and I can only give some tips based on my own experience. 1. Studying in Germany is pretty hands on, as there is no hand holding. And in terms of studying and getting a good grade, you are basically the architect of your life here, unlike what is obtainable in the US, Canada and other north American universities, there are no assignments that count towards the final grade as only the exams determine whether you'll pass or not. 2. Choose what you can study. A lot of us get carried away by the badass and enticing name of a program and get stuck at the end or even drop out because of not being able to pass the requisite courses. As someone rightly mentioned earlier, though studying in Germany is free, studies here is rigid and a tad bit tough given the poor system of education in Nigeria and all. You have to pass at least 30CP at the end of your 3rd semester or risk being dematriculated, and although this may sound pretty easy, the truth is that it isn't. This isn't to say that it isn't doable, just find something that really interest you and you'll be fine. There were instances of students who were dematriculated in their final semester because they couldn't pass one compulsory course. And a lot of students are suffering this (a lot are doing well too). No go do pass yourself! 3. I know that a good number of us are making plans of studying in Germany because of the opportunity to work while studying, which I know is important but living a well balanced life would go a long way in helping. Apply for work student positions in companies or Hiwi positions with some professor's in your department, and do not limit yourself to just doing the 'larger jobs' (menial jobs). Not until I got a research position as an intern, did I fully understand and appreciate the things that were taught in class, including the topics I struggled with, because I was only cramming with no knowledge of how it worked. The school's notice board and professor's website are good places to check out student positions and a number of other opportunities. I am currently in Canada as a research assistant, because I was lucky to come across an opportunity which was advertised on my department's notice board. I applied and got selected to work in collaboration with a university and a nano tech company in Canada. Several schools have several collaborations with research institutes, universities within and outside Europe and companies. Make use of these opportunities! 4. For those that may have a condition attached to their admission letter, that requires they pass a certain course (usually taught in German) after one year or taking some bachelor degree courses in order to top up, my dear brothers and sisters, if you can, please avoid taking up such admission offers. The bachelor degree program isn't what it seems, and having to combine taking those conditional courses and your required courses ain't no walk in the park. I had a conditional which was taught in German and which I needed to pass at the end of the end of the semester. It took extra hardwork, Grace of God and several emails to get the professor to give the exam in English and in German. It wasn't easy for me, as I had to study on me own, given that I couldn't attend the class which was taught in German. I also know people that were dematriculated due to their inability to pass the course and they had to go through the stress of applying for another course or risk leaving the country after being dematriculated. Wisdom is profitable to direct! 5. The importance of learning the language cannot be over emphasized. Learn it! Develop a thick skin. You'll meet people that'll be friendly and those who'll treat you like being black is a crime, but hold your head up and focus! I had an experience with a professor during an oral exam, who said that I sounded and talked like I was smart, but lacked the requisite background knowledge. The words hurt me, but it didn't stop me from moving forward, but rather I tried to become better. Try volunteering and taking up leadership positions when the opportunity presents itself. It definitely would be helpful. Make use of your access to as many European countries as your visa will permit. 6. As for social life, I don't think that I am qualified to give any advise in that area. Our bosses will do justice to that. Make friends as much as you can, because it can be really boring and they could be helpful in terms of studying and getting to know about opportunities for students. I was constantly visiting one person when I first arrived as a way to cure boredom. Lol. Connect with other Nigerians in the city who'll guide you accordingly. You definitely do not want to get stranded or miss a train on your first day here. That experience can be very traumatizing. 7. As for food, there are African shops here, albeit expensive (which is expected) so you'll be fine in that aspect. 8. For settling down here after studies, I'll leave that to our experienced bosses to do justice to it. These are all that I can remember. If I remember any other thing that'll be useful, I'll add them whenever I can. Also remember that what works for A, might not work for B. God bless our endeavours! 38 Likes 11 Shares |

Dahyormine:I'm currently studying applied and engineering physics at the TUM. Studying physics is quite interesting but how interesting you'll find it all depends on your chosen area of specialisation and what you want to do afterwards. Wanna remain in academia or industry? What areas interest you? condensed matter? biomedical physics, astrophysics? energy science, etc. I would say that getting a job after graduation wouldn't be a problem if you give it your all and know what you want. A good number of my seniors go for a PhD after an Msc, so you have to decide if research is what you want or not. You really have to be sure that you love physics and it's what you want, if not I'll probably advise you pick something that interests you. 3 Likes |

Goztino:1. Doing an internship isn't dependent on whether you're in a university of applied sciences or not. You can take a semester leave and go for an internship if you don't have a compulsory one attached to your program of study. 2. There is no appropriate time. Register when you feel you can commit to it and also juggle it with your academics and side hustle. In my opinion, I would register in the second semester though. 3. Studying in Germany can never be compared to studying in Nigeria. You need to work hard and triple your efforts here. 1 Like 1 Share |

Goztino:You asked for options and I gave them or didn't you see where I also mentioned a PhD? Lol. Learning Deutsch on Duolingo and feeling good about it, is different from reality my brother. I guess you'll understand better when you're here. It's good to channel 60 percent of your time for learning Deustch, but what about your academics and work? Getting a good grade requires hard work and it also depends on your foundatation. The education system here isn't like that of the US or UK. When they say that you need a certain number of hours of study inorder to pass, then you definitely should spend that number of hours. As for your grades attracting Germans for "impregnantion", when you get here you'll know and understand better. Getting a good grade is important, but knowing and being able to defend and relate whatever it is you're studying with real life scenarios, is much more important and rewarding. Finally, a good number of things sound very easy and nice on paper, but in reality, it isn't all white and black and nope, I'm not being a pessimist. All the best in your endeavours! 8 Likes 2 Shares |

Goztino:After graduation and job isn't forth coming, your best bet would be to quickly start another master degree program or you go for a PhD afterwards. It is also advisable you learn the language as much as you can while studying, because it is really important. It's importance cannot be over emphasized. |

Basalt:I don't entirely agree with you sir. 1. Knowledge of the language is highly important except you're in the IT field then it won't really be a problem. In fact, knowledge of the language should be a top priority alongside one's academics. 2. Not just STEM courses, people studying management and international business are highly sought after, heck even people studying teaching and learning are highly sought after too. 3. Getting a white lady pregnant and getting your paper subsequently looks and sound easy, but the reality is a different ball game entirely. 4. Graduating on time and getting a PR isn't as easy and straight forward as it sounds, but it is doable. It also requires hard work. Know what you want, work towards it and the sky will be your starting point. Like someone mentioned earlier on, whatever it is you're studying, be good at it. And please don't apply for a course for applying sake, be sure that it is what you want and always check each curriculum inorder to be on the safe side. Studying here isn't easy as one would think. 9 Likes 2 Shares |
