Islam › Re: Three Muslims Shot Dead Near University Of North Carolina: Report by haftob(m): 2:26pm On Feb 11, 2015 |
14DUI: A suspected gunman has been charged with the triple murder of Muslim family members near a university campus in North Carolina, officials and local media said early Wednesday. Craig Stephen Hicks, 46, shot dead a second-year dentistry student, his wife, and her sister in an apartment complex near the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, local police said. Police did not release any information about the possible motive for the alleged crime.
Deah Barakat, 23, his wife Yusor Mohammad, 21, and her sister Razan Mohammad, 19, were found dead at the scene by officers who responded to reports of gunfire just after 5 p.m. Tuesday in the town 20 miles northwest of Raleigh. The Charlotte Observer reported that all three victims were Muslim.
Officials said Hicks had been charged with three counts of first-degree murder and was being held in the Durham County Jail. Officials at the jail told NBC News that he would appear at the in-house courtroom Wednesday morning.
Yusor Mohammad planned to start studies at UNC's school of dentistry this fall, and Razan Mohammad was a student at North Carolina State University, according to university and police officials. UNC said it felt "deep sadness" and said its chancellor, Carol L. Folt, would issue a statement. A Facebook group entitled "Our Three Winners" was set up early Wednesday in tribute to the victims.
Barakat was raising money for a trip this summer to Turkey, where he planned to provide dental care to Syrian refugees, according to his fundraising page. Following the shooting, scores of people donated money and sent messages of condolence. By 6 a.m. ET Wednesday the page had raised $22,657 — far exceeding its goal to raise $20,000 by the end of July.

Properties › Re: The Cost And Conditions For Building These Types Of Houses by haftob(m): 10:18pm On Jan 28, 2015 |
spyder880: I love inner courtyards, especially when they are open at the top, this is a good way to provide natural ventilation and even illumination into the house. But a lot of care must be taken to work on the management of rain water which will be flowing into the courtyard. The ground should have plumbing provisions running beneath the house to channel excess water to the outside. (I can see the floor design in the above pictures and they were made to handle some flow)
Another thing to consider in a courtyard is the possibility of the growth of algae and other such plants in the grounds or walls in a courtyard. Special paints which are designed to fight algae should be used inside the courtyard. Its a very nice idea, just that many people love the completely covered roof here in Nigeria. I agree with u dat many ppl love completely covered house, but ppl do appreciate houses with courtyard. Our two houses have courtyards and we don't av problem with algae growth mayb cos we do some washing there and we make sure we sweep the floor so dat there won't be any stagnant water and bliv me the floor is not painted just cemented and a channel is provided for water to passout. The only problem we av is dat wen rain is falling, some fall in the passage, wat we did in one of the houses is to cover the courtyard with glass, and the problem was solved. |

ommo: OP sorry to say, this has been a totally embarrassing trend. After four (4) years, this is what the governor can boost of, God we really need visionary leaders like Pa Awo and co back again. Why do we keep celebrating mediocrity?
Unfortunately, i look through the candidates and i dont see any better person. For Akala and Ladoja to think of contesting again, is an insult to the good people of Oyo. Let them go sit somewhere and allow visionary people to contest, but, what can one do? This is a clear case of "if good people refuse to make themselves available for positions, then the bad and wick will have a feast". I knew Akala since when he was the North Ogbomoso constituency Chairman. The man even lost the primary for his re-election has local government chairman before he was selected by Baba Adedibu to be Ladoja deputy governorship candidate due to his lack of performance.
Anyway, most Nigerians and Africans as a whole are the most hypocritical blacks one can come across. We know the truth but, because it does not favour us or our family, we will deny it. I have had course to debate with people on these issues. I remember a friend coming to meet me some few days before the 2003 election and asking me to vote for the Obj PDP government then, i told him i will rather vote NCP of late Chief Gani, and the next comment he made was, why do you want to waste was vote? vote rather for a winning party. I asked him, " what and who made PDP or AC a winning party? If the people should decide to really make their vote count and decide not to vote for any of these popular parties, they and their leaders will be useless. Anyway, don't let me bore you with what happening after that.
I do not mean to be insulting, but, i guess i have to make points know. U're on point! Dat's y I've pitched my tent with Seyi Makinde of the SDP |

eighTHREAD: @obayaya and ikengawo. That colorful section of the road is the one from challenge down to iwo road and ojoo which are inside ibadan. You can't tell ibadan more than those that own the city. That section was beautified cos it was an eyesore. You can't expect the expressway which is designed to have eight lanes to look like 4 lanes and with flowers when the contractors are no more there. In a clear sense, the expressway really starts from toll gate challenge down to toll gate lagos, which are all in shambles with the contractors nowhere to be found. GEJ has failed yorubas, which was why he held his rally in a neighorhood street when there are 2 stadiums in ibadan. Pls argue wisely instead of misinforming gullible people, cos yorubas aren't like ibos that your tribesman asidibua said you guys deceive with fake pictures of 2nd NB construction. U're the ignorant person here. U're just making a fool of urself. See the person dat knws ibadan very well saying challenge-iworoad-ojoo is nt a FG road, u can even say it's for ur LG, ode. |

django1: You have brain, please use it. Seyi cannot even come third in this coming election why should ajimobi be attacking him when he did not attack Ladoja or akala or folarin, it is seyi the smallest boy in the lot he will be attacking?
For me personally, Ajimobi lost it midway into his tenure and he failed miserably in education, he didn't also communicate properly with people before embarking on urban renewal (which by the way all sensible humans appreciate). Imagine the amount of lives he has saved by simply moving traders away from road sides, lots of people would have died from trailers ramming into road side shops as it occurred in iyaganku. He will still most likely win anyway but I hope he performs better next time. I'll quote u wen Seyi wins |

No matter how brilliant you think seyi makinde is, the fact is that he is the least popular of all the four candidates. It's gud u even knw dat reasonable ppl prefer him to ur oga. And mind u , seyi makinde is the best grassroot man. akinsadeez: But how does law school relate to final year university students? I didnt say university. If university students were the only bursary he paid how come he paid us. We were in law school not the university and he paid every Oyo state students across all the law school campuses in Nigeria our bursary and I believe he paid those of last year set too. Do you know how much that amounts to? the man tried abeg! For law, the scholarship board agreed to give dos in law skuls instead of the final year law students in the uni. And law was the highest paid cos I heard u guys were paid 120k or so. And mind u, 2013 was the only year it was paid. |

emiye: I agree he does not have a waoh performance, that is why i classified him as an average performer, relapse is the best word to describe him , especially in 2014, i guess he was too conscious of the vibes from the populace as regards second term. I do not know much about he has deepened the IGR drive of the state, but my biggest grouse with him is the not much significant impact in the educational sector. Apart from the NUC license received for the technical university, nothing has been heard thereafter, none of the model schools promised is completed within 4 years. I see scores of industries setting up, but there is still large opportunity area in the agro allied sector.
But, of his 4 major challengers in my opinion , Akala and Folarin are right offs that will not challenge status quo, , listening to the Makinde guy speak, one could sense passion and him having goodies on his head, although talk is cheap, his platform is weak. A Ladoja of accord is a familiar face, and i doubt if he will be inspiring, the good governance oyo state needs goes beyond prompt payment of civil servant salaries. The potentials of Oyo state is large, and a brilliant leader needs to unlock it. Dat's y we need to do away with platform/party ish, Seyi makinde of the SDP is the brilliant leader we need to unlock the large potentials of oyo state |

Simply pathetic. I'm personally sad that only people like him and Akala are stepping forth to lead this state of great potential.[/size] We have Seyi Makinde and In Sha Allah,he'll win. And Ajimobi and the ex-governors vieing for a comeback are telling us this young guy is not experienced. |

akinsadeez: I agree. I was disgusted when I heard an interview of Akala on splash FM wherein he was disputing the fact that Oyo state has been calmer during Ajimobi's tenure.
I will never forget the day during Ladoja's tenure that Adedibu's thugs chased a woman out of the because studio live on air. She was reading the news when the thugs invaded the station and I watched live as the newscaster scampered off the seat mid news. A pregnant woman was killed in because that day among scores that were injured as the thugs wrecked havoc.
All these is now a thing of the past in Oyo state. Stop talking thrash, wat is now a thing of the past dat u're evne saying. I wish u were at mapo dis past monday at seyi makinde campaign flagoff and u'll see wat Ajimobi thugs did to ppl, if u see how they were throwing stones and bottles in the crowd and matcheting ppl and police z they can't arrest dem cos they've been instructed not to do so. And also on wednesday in oyo town, thugs were sent all the way from ibadan to disrupt Accord's party rally but they were restricted by Accord's party superior thugs, come and see how machete and guns were used indiscriminately. |

akinsadeez: On the point of bursary I am also a living witness. Ajimobi paid us our Law school bursary in 2013 and he paid it in full and on time. Kwara state has still not paid the law school bursary for that year till now. So kudos to him. That was the only bursary Ajimobi gave and it's only to some selected final year students in universities and the only year he did dat was 2013! Since then, no bursary and students are paying money to register for it. |
