Foreign Affairs › Re: US and EU Officially Lift Nuclear Related Sanctions On Iran by hahn(m): 8:43pm On Jan 17, 2016 |
Academicwizman: It's very simple my brother, Strength (value) of Nigeria Naira is dependent on price of crude oil in the international market. The fall in the international oil price that we would have enjoyed, being importer of refined oil, has been eroded by fall in the value of Naira. For instance, if Naira value has not fallen (assuming Naira is not only relying on prize of crude), there would have been drastic reduction in the pump price. Thanks for your response. The thing is, this explanation sounds too obvious. I appreciate your reply though |

dearpreye: I'm so happy I'm gradually moving away from mindless religious to a position of common sense and critical thought.
It's my deepest believe that religion should serve as a means of elevating man from mediocrity to excellence; poverty to abundance; ignorance to knowledge, and from primitivity to civilisation. But for the inherent weaknesses of human nature, religion has been so effectively used to degrade the human sense, turn men into unthinking zombies, push men away from improved lifestyles into poverty, and exploit and rob unsuspecting people of their meagre resources.
What transpired in my RCCG parish earlier this morning was shocking, shameful and insulting to sane minds.
For the past 7 or so years, we the parish members have almost singlehandedly built our edifice from scratch. We struggled to get an expensive piece of land using bank loans after shifting from place to place, managed to put up the structure, and bought the sound system and other things to make the place conducive for members. Sadly, as the case is with the RCCG administration, more than 70% of what we generated within this period was still being sent to the province and from there it will land in the HQs in Lagos- Ibadan.
This morning our pastor announced we will be dedicating that edifice to the glory of God. The only issue is: our provincial pastors and others said we MUST make available the sum of money between N150, 000 to N200, 000 as honorarium before they will come around to dedicate the building. I almost went berserk.
When one of us asked why that should be the case, he was told that has been the tradition- that we must make money available whenever our top pastors come visiting the lower churches for whatever reasons. I'm still trying to wrap my head around it. It just doesn't make any iota of sense to me. It's absurd. This is nothing but religious exploitation. Why must the leaders ask us to pay for services we believe they're rendering to God? Somebody please help me.
As for me, I'm NOT giving a dime to that religious waste BUT I feel it's even terrible such traditions are allowed in the house of God. It's crazy.
Just when I was getting my head together, I was told that our G.O used to live in an apartment in the Redemption Camp before he moved into a more befitting one. Now, that apartment is being turned into a museum- members allegedly pay N500 to see inside. Another madness and exploitation. I just don't get mind around these things.
If religion keeps creating pains for me, of what benefit is it to me? Why don't more people speak out against these exploitation? It's insane. Lol. Bros, Jesus never existed. The sole purpose of the creation of christ was to ensure that slaves remained loyal to their masters. Religion is a tool in the hands of the elite to control the masses and Africans have been controlled by this contraption ever since the first slave ship "Jesus" set off from England. You are an intelligent man. Research and free yourself from this mental slavery. There is no god. We are gods. |

omenka: It is the same reason why constructing a 1km bridge in the industrialised world would cost less than it would in our clime- availability of complementary infrastructure.
If we can develop our rail or pipeline delivery system sufficiently to handle massive transport of those commodities, we would no doubt see a corresponding decline in the cost of haulage and cost at the pump.
My theory. Ok. Nigeria's economy has never really been known to make much sense |

omenka: You have a point but are you aware oil producing states that are non-member states of OPEC account for over 60% of world oil production? This means that even if OPEC seals off all its wells, over 60% of world's demand for oil could still be met!
The only way they might have exerted the leverage you imagine is if they have had monopoly of if they were responsible for an overwhelming fraction of world's total oil output. But they don't, hence, their weakness and inability to regulate supply, and by extension, price.
Furthermore, if they have had that sort of influence and used it as you propose, that could have even more dire consequences for countries that depend on oil exports for forex. Such arm twisting techniques could push big consumers to develop alternatives (they have the technological know how to do so) to oil, thereby ultimately rendering the "liquid gold" useless!
I believe there are some benefits to being a member of OPEC, but right now, in the light of the prevailing circumstances, those advantages nearly totally insignificant. Bro, can you help me out? I was just wondering, why is it that the drop in the price of crude oil is not reflecting in the price of it's refined products especially here in Nigeria? |

Beautiful piece. I couldn't have said it better.
Even When I still believed in the existence of god, I considered religion , organized religion a great insult to god. Same here. There's a thin line between agnosticism and atheism though. The guy you quoted is closer to jumping over it than he even realizes |
