PoliticsMissing Schoolgirl’s Bones Found Two Weeks After by Harbdulrasaq(op): 1:28pm On Mar 10, 2015
The fate of a missing 10-year-old pupil of Command Day Secondary School, Ilese, Ogun State, Victoria Ibijoju, has remained uncertain after she mysteriously went missing.

Punch Metro learnt that while the school management launched a search for the JSS 1 pupil, they came across a pile of bones in her school uniform two weeks later.

Her school bag, foot wares and books were said to have been found beside the bones in a bush around the school compound.

But the victim’s father, Mr. Christopher Ibijoju, insisted that the bones were not that of his daughter.

Christopher, an IT engineer, told PUNCH Metro that it was impossible that within two weeks that his daughter went missing, she would have decomposed to the level that no flesh could be found.

He added that despite the heavy rain that fell in the area during the period, the bones he saw were very dry and disjointed.

Our correspondent learnt that the victim, who stayed with guardians, Mr. and Mrs. Emuyibo, had gone missing on June 23, 2014, after she did not return home from school.

Her father, who lives in the Ogijo area of the state, said he got a call from Mrs. Esther Emuyibo, on Tuesday that his daughter did not come home on Monday.

He said,

“My daughter stayed with the Emuyibos and I usually send them money for her feeding and upkeep. She was formerly staying with a teacher in the school, who found another job and asked us to keep her with them.
“We never had any problem with them. On Tuesday, June 24, 2014, Mrs. Emuyibo called me that my girl had yet to return from school.”

He said he went to the school the following day, where it was also confirmed by the school authorities.

The management of the school, the parents and guardians were said to have organised a search party to look around the school. They reportedly did not see her throughout that week.

“The first Monday in July, the school administrative officer called me on the phone and said I should come over to the school because he had seen something very terrible. He did not disclose what it was on the phone.
“When I got to the school, they told me my daughter had died. They took me to a place where we saw a pack of bones in her uniform. Although her school bag, books and shoes were there, I told them it couldn’t have been my daughter,” he added.

Our correspondent learnt that it was at that point that the school management disclosed that the victim had followed her friend, who lived in the barracks, to her home on the fateful Monday she went missing.

PUNCH Metro gathered that the duo slept in the barracks that night, but as early as 6am, the victim was asked to hurriedly leave because her friend did not inform her parents that she was bringing in a visitor. It was learnt that she did not report in the school that morning.

After the bones, which Christopher vehemently rejected as his daughter’s, were found, our correspondent was told that the guardian, Mr. Victor Emuyibo, was arrested by the police.

The victim’s father explained that the bones were taken to the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital for forensic test.He said,

“The bones were packed in a nylon bag; they were disjointed. They were taken to OOUTH. A professor in the hospital, who examined them, said they could not be less than six months old. He, however, suggested a forensic test which requires N1m

“The police said they don’t have budget for it and I also don’t have the money. So, we don’t have any report on it as we speak.”

The victim’s mother, Mrs. Funmilola Ibijoju, said the family believed their daughter was still alive.

She said this had been confirmed by spiritualists, adding that they had continued to pray and hope that she would return home. She said,

“I know that my daughter is still alive. We appeal to the school management to use their power to find out where she is.”

When contacted, the Commandant of the school, Captain Abubakar, said he was not aware of the case.

However, the immediate past commandant of the school, Lt. Col. Aliyu A.B. confirmed the incident and said the school had handed over the case to the police.

He said,

“The matter is with the police. Before I left the school in December, 2014, the police arrested the guardian of the girl and detained him for some time and took the statements of everybody involved in the case.
“They also invited everybody involved in the matter and they were taken to Abeokuta. The cantonment commander was also involved and we did our best.”

When contacted, the victim’s guardian, Victor, declined comment.

The Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, said he would get back to our correspondent on the matter, but had yet to do so as of press time.

Politics28 Inmates Of Ikoyi Prisons To Sit For JAMB by Harbdulrasaq(op): 3:44pm On Mar 09, 2015
Ikoyi Prisons School said on Monday that no fewer than 28 of its students would write the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), 2015, which commences on March 10.

Mr Ayodele Obarewo, the School’s Principal, said, in Lagos that the inmates were adequately prepared for the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB)-organised examination.

Obarewo said more inmates had shown interest in furthering their education, having gone through several reform programmes being offered in the facility.

The principal said the rise in the number of students registered for this year’s examination was encouraging.

He said the figure had increased from the 14, who wrote the examination in 2014, to 28 this year.

Obarewo said arrangements had been concluded for the commencement of the examination in the reformative centre, and that logistics for the smooth conduct of the all computer-based test, were intact.

“We have been preparing the candidates to the best of our ability, and they have equally shown determination and focus to excel.

“Some teachers have been coming around to take them in various subjects as well as computer practice.

“They have been showing great zeal to write this examination, especially those whose term will soon expire.

“Such candidates are putting extra efforts to excel, to be able to participate in the post UTME.

“However, we need more equipment in the facility, that will enable us to accommodate more of the inmates, who are interested in furthering their education”, Obarewo said.

According to him, the school has only 10 computers, which is grossly inadequate for the 28 inmates to practice.

We are, therefore, calling on well-meaning Nigerians to assist.

Over 1. 4 million candidates would write the examination in all the 400 centres across the country.

Shouldn't some of these pastors be banned? There's one in South Africa who makes his congregation eat grass and drink fuel. Another one nearly made a pregnant woman miscarry by hitting her belly several times.

Now this one! He washed the sins of his congregation with soap detergent, bleach and water. And you see the people obediently going to him for bleach to be poured on them...

The Federal Government has justified suspension of the implementation of the Consolidated Tertiary Institution Salary Structure (CONTISS) 15-Grade level for polytechnic lecturers which led to threat by the lecturers to embark on strike.

According to the Director, Press and Public Relations, Federal Ministry of Education, Mr Olu Lipede, the CONTISS 15 was suspended because of wrong implementation.

He said the Federal Government discovered from the initial implementation of the new salary structure that the guidelines were flouted by the authorities of the institutions.

He further explained that a number of lecturers who were not due for the scheme were brought on board, disclosing that the Federal Government had accordingly constituted an Inter-ministerial verification committee, which has representatives of the unions to carry out staff audit to know who is qualified for the CONTISS 15.

Lipede, however, urged the workers to exercise patience and show understanding.
The staff unions threatening strike are: Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP), Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Polytechnics (SSANIP) and Non-non Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (NASU).

CelebritiesBusinesswoman Loses Millions To '3 Witches' by Harbdulrasaq(op): 8:40am On Feb 21, 2015
The police in Lagos have declared wanted a man whose stock-in-trade is using his three wives who pose as witches to defraud unsuspecting victims with false promises of a better future.

The suspect, Awosina Folorunsho and his wives Deborah, Hadiza and Folake got busted when Moses Okafor, husband of their latest victim, Helen Okafor trailed his wife to their hideout at Sango Ota in Ogun State.
She was alleged to have paid more than N10 million to the syndicate before her husband got wind of their activities.

Despite alleged death threats, Moses summoned the courage and alerted the police at the Lagos State command, Ikeja, where operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS, were detailed to storm their hideout in Sango-Ota area of Ogun State where they arrested one of the wives, Deborah while Awosina and the other wives fled the compound.

According to the police, their modus operandi is to advertise in major national dailies. As soon as their victims get in touch with them through the phone numbers on the adverts, they will devise different means including threat to life to extort money from them.
Sounding sober, Deborah, an indigene of Ekiti State, claims that her husband is a very popular herbalist in Sango Ota.

“He is a well-known herbalist and has customers across the country. His medicine is very potent, that is why people patronize us. This is an unfortunate situation. No one is after the woman and if I tell her, she will still go to another place and spend that money. It was the devil that took over us because we are genuine persons”, she stated.

According to Deborah, who said she is the first wife, it is a taboo to disobey their husband hence their decision to help his business to grow.

“He is genuine but sometimes applies wisdom in convincing his customers. This is where we are needed. Recently, he called us that there is a woman who needs help and that we would consult the oracle for her. I did and discovered that nothing is wrong as she will make much money in 2015. My husband told me that she is rich and desperate. Since her future is already bright, we decided to take advantage of that. The whole money is with my husband. He has not given any of us our share from the business before police arrested me.”

How I fell victim –Helen Helen’s desperation started when she noticed that a certain neighbour’s shop had turned to a Mecca of some sort.

“I own a cosmetic shop in Balogun market, Lagos Island. I have a neighbour who could barely pay her rent in the market. Suddenly, she was having so many customers and her goods hardly stay up to three days. She was always travelling to buy goods at least three times in a month and that is unusual. It was really embarrassing and I sought solution everywhere, all
to no avail. It was then that my friend advised me to seek an alternative source of attracting customers. She was the one who suggested that I should read that particular newspaper.”

Helen claims that before her husband rescued her, she had lost more than N10 million to the syndicate

. “I saw the advert in one of the national dailies. The advert was a solution to stagnant businesses. When I called them, they told me that it will only cost about N10,000 for prayers and buying the necessary ingredients.

“Initially, I went to see them at Mushin and I was given a form to fill with my passport. They took N8000 and told me that the money was meant to be used to buy all the ingredients which include chicken, hot drink and some other things that would be used to appease the gods.

“During the consultation, the herbalist told me that it was my neighbours in the market that had stolen my star. I believed because my business suddenly started dwindling. I can hardly finish selling my cosmetics in three months.

“After much prayer, he said that we will travel down to Sango Ota to collect money that I will reinvest in my business.”

On getting to Sango Ota, she waas ushered into a very big compound and asked to go and sit in the living room.

“I begged him to get the money for me but he said that it is only the owner that will pick it or else it will lose its potency. When we got there, I was ushered into a living room that had red curtains all over. I was terrified but determined to improve my fortunes.
“Suddenly, the light went off and started blinking. I wanted to run out but discovered that the door was locked. It was then three women all dressed in white appeared. They showed me a carton full of money and asked me to go and bring N3million to cleanse the money and make it mine.
“Baba came in shivering and told me to do it or I will die

. He said this was the only way I will have the opportunity to make it. By the time he calculated the amount needed, it was about N3.5 million. After seeing those women who claimed that they are witches of the land, I thought I will die. I quickly made available the amount and gave them”, she narrated.

When she returned, Helen said she was asked again to dip her hands into either of the remaining pot.

“It was the same procedure but this time only two women appeared. I dipped my hand into the pot by my right and still picked pieces of paper. I must confess that I heard the sound of thunder and lightning. It was terrified, I begged for mercy while a voice shouted that I must appease the gods. Baba came in again and said that the evil spirits after me are so many. He assured me that the last pot contains what I needed. I was asked to bring N6million to handle the sacrifice. I had no choice because I was scared for my life and secondly the future will be brighter.

“I returned on the agreed date to dip my hand in the third pot but my husband who trailed me, stormed the room and broke the pot. It was then my eyes opened. Inside the pot was another paper written that I should bring N10million or my entire family will be wiped out. I guess that I was under a spell and I thank God for using my husband to rescue me. I guess I was under a spell.”

The victim’s husband, Mr. Okafor said he became worried when he realised that his wife was sneaking out of the house early in the morning and returning home very late.

“I confronted her and she told me that she went to visit a friend in Sango. I was worried because this has never happened and the surprising part is that she will always sneak out of the house. On 28th January, 2015, I decided to follow her.
“I allowed her to enter the compound and followed her. I was not comfortable with the environment and I needed to know the secret my wife kept from me. I walked into the house and discovered that it was a shrine. They tried to stop me but I boldly broke the pot and they threatened that I will die.

They gathered us to drink all kinds of concoction and to also sign an undertaking that we hired them to perform rituals. We agreed and was detained for the whole night while witches including Deborah told my wife to try and complete the ritual. To escape from them, we agreed and was released the next morning. The next day, I reported the matter to the police.”

FamilyWife Brings Fake Father To Represent PZ’S Baby Moment Winner by Harbdulrasaq(op): 8:58am On Feb 19, 2015
Father of Morireluwa, the beautiful girl who won the 2015 PZ Cusson baby moment which was held in Lagos on February 1st, Oluyinka Davids, has revealed that his wife, Funmi Davids, took another to represent him at the competition’s grande finale.

In an interview with Encomium magazine, he said he got his daughter registered for the competition but that as the little girl was advancing in the competition, she shut him out simply because they were no longer living together.

“Yes I started it all, got my daughter registered, got her a professional photographer, personally worked and also employed a PR person who worked tirelessly for her on the contest. I knew she would win. I often told her so. I sometimes even rehearsed how she would be announced the winner and yes she did win, all the glory to God. Myself and my wife had a serious misunderstanding which led to temporary separation but I never ignored or denied the fact that the baby she’s carrying is my daughter. I am still responsible for her upkeep even till now. She called me and said “Your daughter Morireoluwa Davids needed a two minute video for the next stage of the competition”. That was when I knew she made it to the third stage. And I was like so because she needs a video and her father is a cinematographer, that is why I am getting to know my baby had gone this far in a competition I registered her.

Meanwhile shortly before this, during my daughter’s first birthday, I ordered a big customized cake, clothes and toys for her. She turned the person I sent to deliver the stuff. I was embarrassed and deeply hurt. She was so rude and mannerless. She said so many things to me. I still have her message saved. So I told her to go and get the video done elsewhere for our baby because she only had to tell me because some of my staff she asked without my permission turned her down” he said.

Oluyinka, who was not comfortable with the idea of his wife bringing another man to represent him in the competition as he sees it as impersonation which is punishable under the Nigerian law, but blamed the organizers for allowing such act to take place without challenging her actions.

"TWAS is committed to reducing the gap between men and women in the science and engineering professions, so that we can better achieve sustainable development in all nations," said TWAS executive director Romain Murenzi. "The 2015 Elsevier award winners, through their excellent research and commitment to education, represent the important progress we are making. Clearly, these young women will be leaders in their fields of research and in their countries."

David Ruth, executive director of the Elsevier Foundation, said, "We are very honored to be able to recognize these remarkable women who are working to overcome obstacles and make valuable contributions in their respective fields. PoliticsTransAsia Crash: Twelve Dead As Plane Crashes Into Taiwan River by Harbdulrasaq(op): 6:28am On Feb 04, 2015
At least 12 people have died after a TransAsia Airways plane clipped a bridge and crashed into a river near the Taiwanese capital, Taipei.

Fifty-eight people were onboard the domestic flight. The plane is now half-submerged in the Keelung River.

Rescuers have cut open the side of the fuselage and are trying to rescue several people still trapped inside.

Taipei officials said 16 people suffered injuries. Thirty people are still unaccounted for.

The ATR-72 turbo-prop plane had just taken off from Taipei Songshan Airport and was heading to the outlying Kinmen islands, just off the coast of the south-eastern Chinese city of Xiamen, CNA said.

Flight controllers lost contact with the plane at 10:55 local time (02:55 GMT).

Footage of the plane apparently filmed from inside passing cars showed it banking sharply, hitting a taxi and clipping the bridge before crashing into the river.

Television images showed rescuers standing on large sections of broken wreckage trying to pull passengers out of the plane with ropes.

Those that were rescued were helped into dinghies and taken to shore, including a small boy.

Out of the 58 people on board 53 are believed to be passengers and five are crew. Thirty-one of the passengers are tourists from mainland China.

The BBC's Cindy Sui in Taipei says the Chinese tourists could have been on their way home as many people come to Taiwan through Kinmen island.

In July last year 48 people died when a TransAsia Airways plane crashed amid stormy weather in Taiwan's Penghu archipelago. Taiwanese authorities said it was due to pilot error.
