Catarrh Introduction Catarrh is a build-up of mucus in an airway or cavity of the body. It usually affects the back of the nose, the throat or the sinuses (air-filled cavities in the bones of the face). It's often temporary, but some people experience it for months or years. This is known as chronic catarrh. Catarrh can be a nuisance and may be difficult to get rid of, but it's not harmful and there are treatments available. This page covers: Symptoms associated with catarrh Treatments for catarrh When to see your GP What causes catarrh? Symptoms associated with catarrh Catarrh can lead to a: constant need to clear your throat feeling that your throat is blocked blocked or stuffy nose that you can't clear runny nose feeling of mucus running down the back of your throat persistent cough headache or facial pain reduced sense of smell and taste crackling sensation in your ear and some temporary hearing loss These problems can be frustrating to live with and may affect your sleep, making you feel tired. Treatments for catarrh Catarrh will often pass in a few days or weeks as the condition that causes it improves. See What causes catarrh? below for more information. There are things you can try at home to relieve your symptoms, such as: avoiding things that trigger your symptoms, such as allergens or smoky places taking sips of cold water when you feel the need to clear your throat –constantly clearing your throat may make things worse using a saline nasal rinse several times a day – these can be bought from a pharmacy or made at home with half a teaspoon of salt in a pint of boiled water that's been left to cool avoiding warm, dry atmospheres, such as places with air conditioning and car heating systems – placing plants or bowls of water in a room may help to keep the air humid staying well hydrated talking to a pharmacist about suitable over-the-counter medications –including decongestants, antihistamines or steroid nasal sprays There are also several remedies, such as herbal medicines, available from health shops and pharmacies that claim to treat catarrh. Some people find these helpful, but there's generally little scientific evidence to suggest they work. When to see your GP Speak to your GP if your catarrh persists and is becoming difficult to live with. They may want to rule out conditions that could be causing it, such as nasal polyps or allergies. This may mean you need to be referred to a specialist for tests. If you're diagnosed with a specific underlying condition, treating it may help relieve your catarrh. For example, nasal polyps may be treated with a steroid nasal spray, or in some cases surgery. Read more about treating nasal polyps. If a cause for you catarrh cannot be found, the self-help techniques above may be recommended. Unfortunately, however, chronic catarrh can be hard to treat and may last for a long time. What causes catarrh? Catarrh is usually caused by the immune system reacting to an infection or irritation, which causes the lining of your nose and throat to become swollen and produce mucus. This can be triggered by: a cold or other infections hay fever or other types of allergic rhinitis non-allergic rhinitis nasal polyps It's unclear what causes chronic catarrh, but it's not thought to be the result of an allergy or infection. It may be related to an abnormality in the way mucus travels within the nose or an increased sensitivity to mucus in the back of the nose and throat. |
Let us move to save the education of our country and stop the extortion in disguise by the authoriries. Bad examination set up, delay in results, increment in school fees, incessant strikes, unnecessary closure. It is too much! Lalasticlala, fynestboi, aren't you tired? Let our voices be heard |
I discover that jamb as a body is not saying anything about admission. The federal government and jamb just staged dramatic period on social media and now they have forgotten their agreement and argument. I just saw laspotech requesting for the sum of 7500. Has jamb forgotten? Has FG forgotten? People hailed them and now they have backed off. OAU advertised 1500 but 8500 will finish the registration. What is going on with Nigeria educational system? You paid 8500 for logging in on the internet. Give your details and get the scores. What is going on? Why are they maltreating the Nigerian aspirants? We need a clarification. Post utme in existence is Better than this extortion in disguise. JAMB, FG, vcs we are not smiling! |
God is in control. Go on with it. |
I think these guys are confused. They come up with different policies though good and maybe acceptable but the haven't gone through right processes. Anyways, I think we should believe post tune still exist as all this looks like a deceit. How will we pay when you said you do not want charges.all is well |
I have discovered that universities do not even refer to the list sent by Jamb for admission. OAU still request for 6500. That is too much I guess. Funaab, OAU did not request for those given admission by jamb. OAU said if you have scored 200 and someone who scored 192 was given admission. Please what is going on? |
Imagine u woke up and u realise that everything happening since u were born was jux a dream and u're jux starting pry school. How will you feel? |

We that accepted to convert were asked to join with other Muslims and the rest of them about 466 when we counted were shot and killed before our very eyes. “They also asked our girls who were between 15 and 30 to marry them. Those who refused were killed while those who accepted took husbands from amongst them. Many of our people are still trap in the mountains and there is no food,” Diya narrated. Asked if he is still a Muslim after conversion, Diya stated that he was never truly a Muslim in his heart and that he could have been killed had he not agreed to be converted by the militants. Confusion in Abia as Ikpeazu, Ogah lay claim to governorship seat 09:38 01/07/2016Abuja - The issuance of a Certificate of Return to Dr. Uchechukwu Ogah by the Independent National Electoral Commission in Abuja has complicated the dispute over the governorship seat of Abia State, Premium Timesreports. Justice Okon Abang of the Federal High Court, Abuja, had, on Monday, ordered the removal of Governor Okezie Ikpeazu and ordered INEC to issue a Certificate of Return to Ogah, who was the first runner-up in the state governorship primary of the Peoples Democratic Party. Justice Abang had ordered the removal of Ikpeazu after finding him guilty of not presenting relevant tax certificates along with his forms submitted to INEC. He held that Ikpeazu, who emerged as the candidate of the PDP in the state for the 2015 governorship election on the strength of the primary, was not qualified to be the candidate of the PDP. Editor’s note:One of the NAIJ.com readers Ismail Ahmed shares his experience with passing his Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).Ismail Ahmed accuses Joint Admission Matriculation Board (JAMB) and Ministry of Education of trying to destroy the future of Nigerians. JAMB begins UTME on February 29 After studying very hard for 2016 UTME, after having sleepless night, after solving JAMB past Q&A to pass my exams with flying colours, it was really unfortunate that what i reaped is different from what i sowed. March 2, 2016 is unforgettable day in the history of my life. I’ll call it a day of FRUSTRATION! My UTME exams were supposed to take place at 2:00pm. But due to lack of preparation and organization from both JAMB and exams centre agents; we were left for good three hours helplessly outside the hall. We don’t have any option than to keep staying inside the scorching sun waiting for the JAMB agents to screen us. Though, with such physiological stress, most of us were not discouraged and keep waiting. At 5:00pm, we were screened and allowed to sit randomly without any seat number. READ ALSO: Federal government insists post-UTME remains banned It was really unfortunate that we were left to write the exams with substandard computers. What shocked us most is after spending just only 50mins, the generator just shut down! It took the operators 30 minutes before they fixed the problem. This happened twice during the exams. We were left with just little time to answer more than 200 questions out of the 300 objective questions. What surprise me most is how two of the JAMB agents were passing papers to some of the candidates inside the hall. After the examinations, I later asked and I was told by a candidate that those candidates paid for special centres. The following day when my scores were sent to me, I wasn’t surprised when I scored 230 due to the problems we faced during the UTME examination. But what surprised me most that I was given the highest score in English which i didn’t even answer most of the questions due to shortage of time. While biology which I was expecting to score 46 out 50 questions, was the lowest. How can I score a very high score in English when I didn’t answer most of the questions? READ ALSO: “As long as Buhari remains President, Nigeria will have no peace” Those problems did not only happen at King’s Garden Brigade, Kano but most centres in the country experienced either systems failure, substandard computers, power failure, postponement etc. But it is really unfortunate and unjust for Minister of Education Adamu Adamu to make us the scapegoats of the problem faced by JAMB. Why will Mr. Adamu just wake up one-day and destroy the futures of those hardworking Jambites that were frustrated by JAMB? Why will you leave us in the hand of those that are trying to destroy our future? I’ll not forgive JAMB and Mr. Adamu for destroying good 10 years I was preparing to become a pharmacist in future. I think it’s unjust to scrap post-UTME at this critical time. I’m really confused in life! I’m in a state of depression. I don’t know where to get justice from. I struggled to get Mr. President phone number from one of his closed ally in Kano. I texted him on June 3 2016 about how our life is in danger due to injustice we got from JAMB and Mr. Adamu. I told him the depression I’m facing and how my life is in danger. But till date, I didn’t get any reply from Mr. President. If the message wouldn’t reach him I’m using the opportunity to call on our competent president, senators, representatives, governors to save us from the hands of JAMB and Mr. Adamu. |
The issue of scrapping post utme has ofcourse and undoubtedly caused confusion in the mind of many aspirants this year as there are hitches surrounding the issue. I will fault the FG's approach towards the it as there was no proper consultation before making such directive. The minister should understand that procedure in place for 12 years can not be scrapped in just a day. This controversy is the result of the minister's careless and mindless decision. I am not saying post UTME should continue or be stopped but why was the issue not raised before the UTME. Maybe you don't know that some are still underscored and JAMB hasn't planned the make up exam till now. Such candidates hope to make up with post UTME but with this process, i doubt if some with 200 will even get into a polytechnic. JAMB should attain that level everyone will have trust in the body before assuming to be 'upright'. Since June 2, JAMB has not done anything or said anything in admission process. That means JAMB may not be too competent to handle the admission process of the large number of Nigerian Institutions. The schools should as well put in place every measures to ensure that students are admitted on merit and qualification. It is now the issue of knowing someone before getting admitted. Why should a person with 250 and 78 percent in UTME and Post UTME respectively not be admitted while 195 with 72 percent was admitted. That is the issue the schools should look into. The price can as well be 'scary'. #7500 is too much for the exam. The FG should have given a maximum price or general price for the examination. Students going to universities know that it's not a child's play so should be ready to take many examinations as possible. If a candidate could write the WAEC NOV/DEC, NECO nov/dec, WAEC may/june, NECO june/july, UTME, then such candidate should not be afraid to face post UTME. Candidates should be ready to face many examinations. In summary, I request that the FG should put a stop to the confusion by allowing the post utme continue, giving conditions for it's continuation and give a platform for complaints by candidates. This will surely solve the problem. |
The problem of 100 years still surfacing. What'ver you say, Buhari remains our president. It is hard and everyone knows that so just endure as we will laugh @ last. Some of us just comment shabbily and blindly without thinking deeply before posting what'ver! No insults but just saying LET US BE CONSIDERATE AND PRAY FOR THE GOVERNMENT |
We have three arms of government namely, the legislature, executive and the judiciary. Shall we understand how powers are separated and the help to checks and balances? The Legislature makes law. The executive implements the law. The judiciary interprets the law. As far as Nigeria is concerned, the power to say final Yes or No lies in the hands Of the Judiciary. About Saraki's case, the legislature is doing all possible to manouvre things to be at their own side, to favour its leaders. If the AGF files a case against Saraki, it worths it as allowed by the law. If EFCC sues anyone, it's correct as allowed by the law. Nigerians, let's stop worrying and throwing insults at one another because of 'wahala' at the top all in the name of supporting tribe or party. Everything is still according to the constitution as the court has the final say! So it is necessary to have this for checks and balances. The arms can call one another to order if going astray. But in Nigeria, selfish interest and party interest have dominated the hearts of our leaders. |
Enugu - The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has appealed to treasury looters - past and present - to "vomit" what they stole in the interest of justice. The commission’s Director of Public Affairs, Osita Nwaja, gave the looters the advice in an interview in Enugu on Wednesday while reiterating the commission’s determination to bring corrupt office holders to book. "Vomit what you stole. We gave you this thing to keep and you ate it and then you are claiming right. "You are throwing impunity at our faces and that is not right. And that is what EFCC is saying. It is not right. "We must bring them to justice. The accused persons themselves they have stolen billions. "And then they will go and hire all the lawyers they can and this is where we have the problems with some of these lawyers. "Recently we took some of them to court and then they appeared in support of themselves. "Over 100 Senior Advocates of Nigeria to defend one man. We are talking about 103 chambers in defence of one man. "That is immoral to say the very least." The public affairs director said the common man is at most times at the receiving end as they are always denied their basic needs and used for public demonstrations by the looters when arrested. "We hear about all the crimes and all the criminals that are being investigated and prosecuted by the EFCC. "Many of these people have direct link to the common man. "The common man does not see always because they try to blur the line of that linkage how that man who is stealing billions and trillions relates to his very callous regrettable situation in life. "How the money meant for road, money for hospitals to take care of pregnant women, to send children to school are disappearing into people’s accounts, and people’s pockets and people’s stomach. "Just a few people and their families and their friends and their associates and they are holding the Nigerian people to ransom." Nwaja said the fight against corruption was fundamental to the country’s economic recovery. |
