lolz! Cop out. So an inflammable bible is god's priority now. What a useless god. A god that ignores the millions of children being raped and abused every year is busy protecting a bible you can always buy at a book shelf. Cc hopefulLandlord, hahn come see me see wahala.

cos i see your own parents as idiots too. At leaston the subject of religion i cant defend my parent no need being emotional about it. I know you are using those words cos you think it would hurt me. There is no point engaging you cos you cant see that you and my parent are on the same page, if you call them idiots cos they are christians, then you insult yourself and everyone in your family who are just like my own christian parents. The joke is on you

no no I'm talking about atheists that say theists are irrational, stupid and delusion and that only a complete idiot would believe in christianity. Does that perfectly described your family according to you? grin are they just a bunch of grass eaters?
yes it does. You think i would feel reproach that my family are the typical foolish africans? It describes them, describes yours and the over 2billion christians, over 1billion muslims and any religious person. It requires foolishness to be religious. Does that make atheists wise?? Absolutely no. We are all stvpid one way or the other including me posting this. As for the grass eating part, i feel sorry for you that your parent are deranged to the level of eating grass. What a pity

The speaking in tongues you are talking about is the type done by penticeostal churches. What they do is say gibberish whivhbdont make sense.

The speaking in tongues as seen in the Bible is actual human languages. When the disciples first spoke in tongues, they were speaking different human languages. The people of different tribes and nations that where present could hear then speak in their language.

If you are soeakingnin tongues and no one understands you, then what you are saying is rubbish.

Speaking in tongues is good when you find yourself in a foreign land whose language you don't understand. The Holy Spirit can overwhelm you and make you speak their language.
.So you see, you never spoke in tongues. What you did was mumble some gibberish.
lol! This is even more silly than those speaking gibberish. Do you know why penticostals not speak gibberish and call it 'speaking in tongues'? Because they know it is impossible to speak languages they have no knowledge of. You are even more silly to think you can speak foreign languages by a so called holy spirit influence.

Hello Christian bro & sis in the house. I will like you all to advice me on this cause DEPRESSION has eaten me deep to the bone.

I was once committed xtian but when things beyond me sets in, I began to feel like God doesn't answer prayer anymore or he just want me to go through all dis long time problem that's beyond my faith. I was once a choir member and a keyboardist in my church in osun State before relocating 2 Abuja since 2016.

Now, I hardly go to church and even if I go, there service looks somehow watery to me . I have attended almost well known pentecostal church in Abuja but their teaching is yet to convince me back to Christ.

I know more of God but am not Happy @ all.
I have attempted suicide once but God use someone to save my life .
Am jobless and always Lonely @ home dis makes me to go into deep thoughts and concluding suicide is the best answer .

I have passed through a lot and am yet to go out frm what am into. Depression has set in into my heart and I have no one to talk to. I dwell here with my brother but hardly he stays home due to job nature that requires him to travel all d time.

There was a time I nearly converted to other faith maybe I can find rest of mind in there faith. As it is now, I don't longer go to church again, I have stopped so many things relating to faith in God. Although I want to come back to him but I don't see anyone helping me to grow in faith and can also encourage me abt all this am into.

I can't type it all on this forum about what am going through. It hurts alot and I do cry everyday. I have gone to severally ministry looking for peace of mind but all effort are void.

Pls help me out cause am dying within me everyday n am afraid I will just end it all in few days time.

God's people in the house, please talk to me Maybe I will have joy in my life again. Shalom

My phone number is 08128106231 in case u want to have a one on one talk with me.
next time put a number that is on whatsapp.

very funny atheists we've got here on nairaland. everyday this guys are reinforcing the definition of atheism, some even believe in spirit, but this one I am hearing now really surprised me, an atheist can spent in tongues, cast out demon ?( something he deny its existence) I just love thread like this, its exposed their ignorance.
of cos. Demons dont exist. That is why anyone can cast them out. It is all in the head of the 'possessed' person. It is all about understanding the psychological state of the 'possessed person'

This is the problem with religion, you think you have something special but you have been sold snake oil. Nothing special about anything in christianity, why it is easy for me to dump the religion. It is all based on lies and a state of constant self delusion.
Tell me just one single thing that makes a christian special.

@Op tomorrow is Sunday and a good opportunity drop the bombshell of your newly found unbelieve.

Here is what you will do, wake up early morning..while your parents are preparing for Sunday service. Look for the thickest wrapper in the house, tie it around your waist, and put the longest Chewing stick in your mouth...get a Daily Sun news paper and sit leg-crossed in front of the television while you read it.

Yo' parents will surely come at you like: ain't you going to church?

And yo' be like: hey Pops! Hey mom! I no longer believe in God. I'm an Atheist.

Piece of cake! grin

You see wrong.
Though I am a free born, whether you accept it or not, both you and I, are slaves to the authority of God

The only person doing arguments on this thread and often elsewhere on this forum is you

Sums you up
Have you just been back from a voyage of self-discovery about yourself?

In my own right, I am a figure of authority
and my middle name is Maverick.

Common sense should tell you this isnt always true
and that true human survival and existence has been a function of relying on blind faith when confronted with things we cannot prove

You have to be wicked, self centred, have no compasion, no conscience etcetera for you or anyone else for that matter, to be against religion
Not that you know, what true, pure and religion that is without fault is
"Religion is like having a classroom", he claims. Indeed. SMH.

I suffer ignoramuses gladly
I am patient with them but not with those who are proud of their ignorance(s).
You can come back for more slam dunks

you patting yourself on the back does not mean you made any sense. You faulted from the beginning trying to enforce your believe in god. ' whether i believe it or not, god has authority over me'? Lol. That is how dodos think.

Not only logic. Sincerity and love for truth is required because one could have it all wrong even with logic. Those you mentioned above as lawyers, professors are logical people, so are many scientist that disbelieve in a deity. Some of them are blinded by evolution and glorify it as the maker of all things, even when such is absurd. Some will even say there is no deity in the spiritual realm. But which theory have they carried out to arrive at that? Which scientific theory sees the supernatural?
hmmm... thanks. You are right, sincerity is more important

Nice explanation u got up there.. Unfortunately stoning an invisible Satan has not caused change in attitude in any way.
This is same thing we get with being born again in Christiandom. Everyday we have people claiming to have renounced sin and giving their life to Christ in this country... It changes nothing, they still sin, segregate and so we have people like sciencewatch butterfly lion acting out their sinful nature when pushed to the wall despite all the claims.
Believing the stoning Satan will change attitude is the problem here. 1. Such action has not been proven to have changed anything in the partakers.
2. It only makes people hypocritic blaming their action on an external for, satan and not actually feel guilty when they act badly.
3. Its quite dangerous to think stoning Satan will stop u from sinning. This is like the act of confessing ur sin to the priest every week. People will only behave badly, wait to stone Satan and behave badly against hence the circle continues.
4. Stoning Satan is just an excuse to feel we are not responsible for our evil behaviors
exactly. There is just no way to whitewash this practice

We are not talking about other historical figures. I find it absurd that the alleged creator of the universe came to planet earth to kill himself and sacrifice himself for humanity so that he can be in a personal relationship with them and the only evidence is he said, she said historical probability. That is completely absurd.
you are making sense. Of all things god did not think it fit there should be evidence for jesus. But there are evidences for dinosaurs that have nothing to do with the eternal salvation of man.
Only an insincere person wont agree with you on this.

Some of you called athiest are simply athiest by the state of the mind and not by knowledge.

I am from Muslim background and I feel, I understand this perspective better than the op. The scientist , lawyers and professors stoning in the jammarat are not foolish or gullible as the op thinks . In fact the op seems gullible due to ignorance.

Trying to find a logic or scientific explanation to religion is not always a smart idea. Science is a progressive information. New evidences can prove old theory or rule may not be correct.Still, If you need a reasonable explanation to stoning of Satan, this may help:

Actions influence attitudes....we also have something similar in Atr.

check out cognitive dissonance: changing attitudes to justify behavior

"The theory of cognitive dissonance states that when people become aware that their freely chosen actions violate important or relevant attitudes, the inconsistency produces an uncomfortable state of arousal called dissonance, which motivates people to change their initial attitudes to make them consistent with their behavior. For cognitive dissonance to occur, it is important that the attitude is important and self-relevant." In psychology, actions affect attitudes or beliefs. So stoning satan is an action. Even there maybe no satan there. But you symbolically stone him. At this point your brain work like this: "I stoned satan, I can stone only bad things, So Satan is bad, and after stoning him, how can I do what Satan ask me to do."

At this point your action change your belief and you don't do sin as much as you did before.

So it better we focus on the message the rituals is trying to pass rather than the chracteristics of the ritual. If the message is poor then we should discard it but if it is for the sake of our own benefit, we should embrace it.
my mum was a muslim till recent. I know all you just explained now, does not change the fact that they are stvpid.

Was it Abraham Lincoln, the 16th president of America, that said:
"I can see how it might be possible for a man to look down upon the earth and be an atheist,
but I cannot conceive how a man could look up into the heavens and say there is no God
"
'

One fair lady said:
"We can have all the information knowledge in the world,
but it means nothing without the wisdom to know what to do with it
"

... but this isnt something about the other trilion plus things you cant disprove

To ordinarily know, is not to be wise
because wisdom, actually, is the right use of knowledge.
No wonder, the bible repeatedly observes that:
The fool, the opposite of the wise, says in his heart, "There is no God."

Asimov's the saddest aspect of life right now is that science gathers knowledge faster than society gathers wisdom,
sums up the time we live in
i see you are a slave to authority. All your arguments are appeals to authority. You lack confidence in your own self.

A free thinker does not because a figure of authority says something accept what is being said. I would rather be one than a zombie.

Common sense should tell you true human survival and existence as not been a function of things we cannot disprove, rather it has been solely based on things we can prove.

Reason why we are so against religion. Too much resources going into a subject that has nothing to give. Not backed by truth but speculation

casting out demons
oh! Simple.

It is as easy as making a child scared of shadows.

Tell a child that there is a monster under his/her bed that lurks there waiting to snatch him/her when alone and see how that child starts dreaming and seeing that monster come to life.

The so called demon possessed person is only possessed by 'Knowledge' not demons. Everything that person knows about the demons tormenting him/her are from information gathered about the concept over time.

Knowledge is the key word here.

That person is submissive to an higher authority because it is human nature to be submissive to authority. Anyone that can believe in demon possession is already a submissive person. That person shows traits conducive for hypnotism which requires submission to suggestions.

Just like a master hypnotist that assumes the role of authority, so is anyone who is a pastor, imam or any religious figure.
The atheist only as to play along any of these roles that appeals to the subject's belief.

No laughing, no joking, you just have to put up a good act. Play along the lines of the subject's weaknesses, use familiar terms that are generic in the society the subject lives in. And see how the subject would start acting funny. It is all in the head not real.

The more authoritative u are, the better the results you get.

Question 1-In one of your threads, you claimed you can still speak in tongues as an atheist, how is this possible? Hardmirror
oh yeah. Speaking in tongues is actually an ability that can be retained over time just like mastery of the keys of a music instrument due to frequent practice over a period of time.

I got baptised in the holy ghost as a young christian, perhaps, about 15- 16years old and prayed in tongues for at least an hour everyday till i was 22-23 when i finally became an atheist.

This has made it easy for me to 'play' with the act. It is not had once your brain is comfortable with allowing your mouth to say things that does not make sense.

Speaking in tongues is difficult for many because our brains resist it. It does not make sense to say ' marishe broski mara shikerebo... ' or what ever jargons one calls speaking in tongues. But with time your brain gets comfortable with it and over time you may even start to try making sense from the gibberish in belief that you are speaking by the spirit.

ADDITIONALLY

It is possible for an atheist to cast out demons.
