I will continue to contest as long as I live —Buhari

| Print | E-mail

Written by Ishola Michael
GENERAL Muhammadu Buhari has declared that as long as he is alive and fit he will continue to contest for the highest political seat in the country until he achieves his political ambition, just as he has declared to contest in the 2011 general elections under the banner of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC).

Buhari said he was not afraid of former military president, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, saying, “as long as all of us play in accordance with the Constitution, there is no problem.

The CPC chieftain, who spoke on a BBC Hausa programme on Saturday, berated Nigerian youths for letting the country and its people down administratively, saying that, “since the constitution of the country allows any fit Nigerian to seek for any elective offices we will continue to do so until the National Assembly amends the constitutions as it affects elections.”

He lamented that successive administrations had allowed corruption to eat into the fabrics of the society but expressed optimism that with commitment on the side of the government, the war against corruption would be won.

On free, fair and acceptable elections in the country, Buhari said it was achievable if the Justice Muhammed Uwais Electoral Reform Committee report was carefully studied and implemented.

I know this is a relatively funny thread to find in the political section and even funnier that i am commenting on it. But call a spade a spade, I think Dagrin's death is a million times more painful.Yar'adua as a president that died long time ago back in November and to think that most people here can be this hypocritical and lip service / eye service freaks beats my imagination.

Yar'adua was our president,we all admit but the truth be said,  what impact did he make apart from the sycophants that benefited from his regime while it lasted. I heard of Dagrin probably a little over a year go but the cat made sense while he was alive.

Barack O grin is still much more relevant if you ask around.   wink

PoliticsInclusion Of Yar'adua's Nephew In The List Of Contenders For Vp Is A Big Joke by hatch(op): 11:05am On May 08, 2010
Where the Nigerian press usually get their source of information sometimes beats my imagination. No doubt the jostle for the position of the VP is currently the main sell in our dailies now but funny as it seems a lot of Newspapers have been reporting all sorts on their own versions of the list of the potentials for the VP job slot.

According to The Daily Sun Newspaper of 8th May 2010, Their own version of the VP contenders has the name of Alhaji Murtala Yar'adua ( Late Umar Musa Yar'adua's nephew) Honestly this sounds more like some very big joke to me and i am really dumbfounded how some folks get their information.  According to this except from the Sun News paper

Sun newspaper: Alhaji Yar’Adua
The Yar’Adua man is a minister of state currently. The conclusion is that he was picked to the position as compensation for the Yar’Adua family over the illness and expected ouster of the late president. It is possible the compassionate consideration would have spent its vital energy to keep carrying him.

It is doubtful if the core PDP would consider a further compensation to the Yar’Adua clan as to choose one of them as second citizen.
http://sunnewsonline.com/webpages/news/national/2010/may/08/national-08-05-2010-001.htm

So lets face it, A Nation of over 150 Million people and some folks want us to believe that VP position should be given to the late president's nephew in order to compensate them. I laugh in Kanuri. Anyway on a more serious note, from experience i am beginging to see nothing good from The Daily Sun Newspaper, afterall this was the same newspaper that reported some weeks ago that Lat Yar'adua would be returning to work in a few days.

PoliticsYar'adua And The Lesson Of History by hatch(op): 8:28pm On May 06, 2010
haaba.com/news/2010/05/06/272-420408/yaradua-and-the-lesson-of-history:
Lagos, Nigeria (Haaba) - As flags flutter at half mast following the death of Nigeria's former president, late Musa Yar'adua, the events leading to his demise speak volumes in terms of impact and lessons for the country.

The death of Yar'Adua reminds one of the tragic event of 1998 when the then maximum leader, Sani Abacha, died in office. Dying in office as Nigeria's number one citizen is not new. Before Abacha, Aguiyi Ironsi and Muritala Mohammed also passed on from the exalted position. While the first two were assassinated, the last two died of natural causes. While Sani Abacha died in his bid for self-succession, the latest died clutching at political power at the expense of his health.

Before yesterday's death, Africa’s foremost dramatist, Wole Soyinka, made a serious and disconcerting allegation about Yar’Adua's wife. The nobel laureate called for criminal proceedings against Turai Yar’Adua for kidnapping and abusing the ailing president. The dramatist as well as well-meaning Nigerians advised Yar'Adua to resign his office on health grounds. In spite of various local and international calls for his resignation, Yar'Adua and his litany of advisers remained defiant and were bent on his retaining the 'presidential' title without discharging the duties of office. Yar'Adua rather preferred to listen to sycophantic cabals trumpeting the need for him to clutch at power at the expense of his health.

This became glaring when the defunct Minister of Justice, Michael Aondoakaa, proclaimed to a surprised world that incapacitated Yar'Adua can rule from the sick bed! The willy-nilly attachment to Aso Rock has spelled terrible consequences for the victim. Common sense dictates that the late president should have taken a cue from the misadventures of a sit-tight ruler like late Sani Abacha. Analysts say if Yar'Adua had good advisers, he should have become another Abdulsalami Abubakar who left the stage when the ovation was loudest.

The sagging honour of Yar'Adua became apparent when he was 'repatriated' in a hurried fashion from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to Nigeria in the dead of the night on February 24,2010 after some 94 days in hospital. Dejected, sick and unrelenting, YarAdua lived "underground" in an ambulance for some days before his life support apartment was ready inside the Villa. There was perceived hidden agenda in his hurried return.

The late president was accused of high-handedness for not officially transferring his presidential powers to the vice president before travelling overseas to seek medical attention. This undemocratic attitude not only drew ire and strong criticisms from Nigerians but swayed whatever pity they should have had for the sick man to Jonathan

He will be remembered for articulating his seven-point agenda and only succeeded in reading this out to all of us from a piece of paper as a reminder without actualising any of them.

He will also be remembered for taking over six months to reshuffle his cabinet and missed attending a United Nations General Assembly meeting because of the cabinet reconstitution - even the reconstituted cabinet contained almost all the old members with just a few new faces added.

He will be remembered as the only president ever that has many governors as sons-in-law

He will be remembered as a president who though promised to fight corruption but surrounded himself with terribly corrupt people - Ibori, Farida  Aondowankaa et al

He will be remembered as a president who rather than attend a United Nations General Assembly meeting and also have a private meeting with Obama, chose instead to travel to Saudi Arabia and inaugurate a university

He will be remembered for his numerous names viz Yar ‘Ado nothing, Yar ‘Aslow, Yar Aclueless, Yar ‘Asiddon look, Yar ‘Avisionless etc

Yaradua will be remembered for the following
1. For being a sickler.
2. The first sitting president in the history of the world to be smuggled in the cover of darkness into his own country.
3. The first president in the world to be conveyed by air with an ambulance and wires all over him.
I don't think he suffered from sickle cell anemia or did he ? huh
