He rode on Atiku's back to ingratiate himself with OBJ, who then appointed him FCT Minister. Of course he quickly dumped Atiku, and thereafter has dumped even the OBJ himself. Yar'Adua understood him for who he was and was poised to deal with him (deservedly so) before he ran away.

This animal called El Rufai is such a despicable, cold, heartless, scheming scum of the earth. He is the lowest of the low. The worst of the worst. I believe much of the money he has stashed away is not only proceeds of his own loot as governor and the war chest from thiefnumbu, but also proceeds of kidnapping ransoms from the Fulani bandits he imported from across Africa to fight Goodluck Jonathan in 2014/15, who have now transformed into cash machines via banditry. This demon called El Rufai is that ruthless. He is capable of the worst forms of evil.
